Hearne: 49ers Legend Coach, Quarterback Need Work On ‘Dance Step’

Arthur Murray, anyone?

Legendary San Francisco quarterback Steve Young had some frank advice for 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and QB Jimmy Garappolo: as in, get your act together.

“I think he and Kyle have to work on their dance step,” Young told The Chronicle on Thursday at Spyglass Hill, after he played alongside Phil Mickelson in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. “The thing before halftime doesn’t make sense to me. If I was the quarterback, and you just let the clock drain away, what are you saying to me?

“That’s just me. I understand you want to drain a little bit of time so you don’t have to give it back to Patrick Mahomes. I get that, but how about some time for me? That tells me there’s an ongoing relationship that needs to be developed, a trust maybe that needs to be worked on. …”

Young’s bottom line:

“Look, I always put myself on the field. How would I feel? And I would feel like, ‘Hey, wait a second, put the ball in my hands.’ So those two have to figure out how to continue to build off what they’ve done.”

  1. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Shanahan knew exactly what he was doing and who is QB was. That’s the point. Jimmy G’s skill-set is well known. What Shanahan did with that skill set this season was pretty impressive. Everyone saw it on full display when it came down to the football game with the ball in his hands. The 49er’s running game and defense propelled them into the Super Bowl, not Jimmy G. Hey, he’s a “nice” QB. He’ll win you some games. But, he WILL be the week link in the 49er’s ability to get back to the big game.

    “Arthur Murray, anyone?”

    – dancing away from the stars Shanahan, Garoppolo and Young, running finish line field track: ‘beyond the dead horses’, San Francisco having beaten the daylights out Kansas City cuisine, as latter (one on the wrong side, Missouri) having stolen NFL’s latest asterisk-stained Superbowl 54* – story follows ought ‘shake up’ local yokels:

Once again, outside the confines Kansas City ‘either’, rest the world just ain’t feelin’ it.
Usian Bolt doesn’t think much of the the swiss chiefs WR or their QB either, appears:

Whereas gimmick/gadget guy #10 KC wishes try out the Olympics, color ‘The Worlds Fastest Human’ Bolt ‘unimpressed’ (Kerouac is beside himself… is a conspiracy I tells ya, a conspiracy!)

Bolt says KC’s gimmick/gadget guy #10 (who is at best tied for second fastest NFL player behind the Bengals John Ross officially and no better than tied another 2-3 other guys likely), would not even be close to competitive with Olympians.

    “No, there’s no chance… he wouldn’t make the team” (there’s speed… and then there is S – P – E – E – D !!!)

    Sacrilege???

    Gets worse.

Bolt added that he’d love to get a chance to play wide receiver in the NFL and would particularly love to catch passes from _____ _______ (which QB?)

‘Ketchup Kid’, #15? Sorry, no (rhymes with D’OH!) – correct answer: Aaron Rodgers.

  3. Goose13 says:

Bolt? Who cares. He is a sprinter, not a football player. Bolt is not getting hit going across the middle, or anywhere else. Weak argument K.

    • Kerouac says:

His argument, not Kerouac’s; that said, if Bolt isn’t a football player then tyweak isn’t an Olympian – which Usain alluded to…
