Glazer: Scribe Scans Playoff / Super Bowl Horizon & Lays Down His Picks

We’re at the midway point of the NFL season…

For Chiefs fans it seems like it’s been over for a long time. Yet many teams still feel they’re SUPER.

So who really is in the hunt for the big prize?

The AFC is not as strong as it once was. Teams like New England and Baltimore don’t look as powerful as they did just a year or two ago.

These teams are my picks for the playoffs in order of strength:

HOUSTON, DENVER, PITTSBURGH, NEW ENGLAND.

Less so but still in the hunt are…Baltimore, Indy, San Diego.

Who do I like to win the AFC?

Most would pick Houston, however as I wrote long ago that PEYTON MANNING is still the highest ranked quarterback in football today. So my early pick is DENVER from our division.

The NFC contenders are: ATLANTA, NEW YORK, SAN FRANCISCO, GREEN BAY, CHICAGO.

Minnesota, Seattle – and a real long shot – Dallas remain in the hunt as well.

Who’s my early Super Bowl pick?

I’d like to say the NY Giants, to see Manning vs. Manning – and there’s still a decent chance for that to happen. But I have to go with my first week big Vegas winner: Atlanta. They aren’t 7-0 for nothing.

Let’s take another look in say six weeks, but for now it’s Denver vs. Atlanta.

Who wins? Atlanta.

And let’s hope Kansas State wins big so they can hold off Oregon to face Alabama for the title.

How cool would that be? Our other local teams are all terrible. Missouri could get a Stink Bowl somewhere with another win, but they are just lousy. Florida should drill them today. Alabama should walk on LSU. Maybe, just maybe, we get a break and USC upsets Oregon, but I don’t think so.

My picks are running at a national level. Outstanding.

Maybe I should have moved to Las Vegas long ago, Hearne says NO – that I’d overthink it and blow some big ones. I’m not so sure about that.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Kansas State -2 1/2 over Oklahoma State (tease with below)

Alabama -2 over LSU (tease with above)

Vanderbilt even over Kentucky (tease with below)

Arkansas -3 over Tulsa (tease with above)

PRO FOOTBALL:

Denver -3 over Cincinnati. Bengals

Green Bay -4 over Arizona (tease with below)

Houston -4 over Buffalo (tease with above)

Atlanta -3 1/2 over Dallas

Can’t wait to see what the Chiefs spread with the Steelers is for next Monday. I’m going to guess it at 18!!!

Take the Steelers.

glaze…your wrong..heres another articlek from 2011 when i made the
    predictio
As goes the Dow Jones Industrial Average, so goes Obama’s stock: According to Intrade, Americans are losing confidence in President Barack Obama’s ability to win re-election. Intrade is a website where users place bets on the outcome of future events.
On Intrade, people buy and sell shares of future events based on how likely they think it is that something will occur. In the past few weeks, Obama’s stock has dropped. As of Tuesday, traders gave Obama just a 50.1 percent chance of being re-elected.

Those odds have seen a steady decline since August 3, when traders gave Obama a 56 percent chance of returning for a second term.

Obama’s chances of re-election — at least according to Intrade users — have been falling since May, when they peaked at 69.9 percent following the news U.S. troops had killed Osama Bin Laden. Until recently, odds held steady at around 60 percent for most of the year.

  5. Rick Nichols says:

I had my excellent Joplin tornado story winning an Amy Award for 2011,
And then I had the Detroit Tigers getting by the Cards in seven,
So you see, I’m obviously pretty bad when it comes to picks.
But here’s a can’t-miss prediction: the Chiefs will continue to take their licks …
… and won’t go to the Super Bowl again until at least 2026.

  6. Kerouac says:

“We’re at the midway point of the NFL season”

    – scarier than another 4 years of Obama (that nightmare scenario ends Tuesday) is the specter having watch the Chiefs ‘bend over’ for ANOTHER 8 games, fandom subjected looking deeper into the abyss as it were (as if 1-7 was not dolor enough.)

    ~

Kerouac’s ‘Nostradamus’ picked the GIANTS over the Tigers in the World Series and so am ‘feeling lucky’, punks. Will stick with Ryan Braun over Buster Posey NL MVP & Romney/Ryan for Prez & VP in lieu Poitier (Obama) & Curtis (Biden) as ‘The Defiant Ones’… much to the chagrin CG (at least we agree on Pioli, small world.)

College football, only want to see the 1966 ‘3 Champions’ tie broke re: that never-played mythical Championship Game. That year, Notre Dame, Michigan State & Alabama ALL laid claim National Championship. Even Vince Lombardi (upon the Packers having beaten the Chiefs in Superbowl I) said “I guess we’ll have to play Alabama now to see whose really #1.” Circa 2012, Notre Dame and Alabama in it, Michigan State not (Oregon may be better than either of the aforementioned and Kansas State is a mirage, my opine.) And the winner is… I don’t care/anti-climax.

Give me the days of Parseghian, Hanratty to Seymour & no artificial turf… those were the days 1960’s when the Chiefs actually had a real football team too.

  7. Kerouac says:

Is Oregon college football Head Coach and Offensive Co-Ordinator/guru Chip Kelly the next Offensive Co-Ordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs or should we just anoint him our Head Coach right now?

    Color me impressed.

Oregon – the ‘Ducks’ – quacked all over a storied college football program on Saturday. Pity the fools at Kansas State, Alabama, Notre Dame or any other name doesn’t begin with ‘NFL’ who would dare get into the starting blocks with them.

    Offense? Make that mayhem.

With 730 (that’s seven-hundred & thirty) yards against USC (that’s the University of Southern California), in LA at the Coliseum (as in ‘home of the Trojans’ who appeared not unlike so many used condoms on defense), it was impossible legally speaking, and indefensible – a case of manslaughter ‘with’ malice aforethought.

Was a BBQ, defense ‘Kansas City style’: score 62-51. Garbage time all day long; 0-3 Lakers of Staples Center would hope for an half that swell, lead or striking distance.

Defense? Yes please. Or is it ‘what’s that’? US spelling or British was none, no ‘defence’ or ‘de resistance’, only ‘piece’ more so being pieces of defenders strewn about/littering the field after, USC & Oregon; were no survivors… condolences relatives the deceased.

USC’s 615 yards added to the mix and you get an afternoon filled with 1345 combined ways to make Kansas City’s Chiefs jealous. In college football (for USC began in 1888), it has never since been as bad & likely won’t be again. Oregon & USC were within one more length the field gallop & bomb of a mile in yardage in one game, nigh on, or more than what the local NFL team amasses in ‘two’ games; that the former renowned NFL defensive whiz Monte Kiffin was USC’s Defensive Co-Ordinator is worth mention.

So back to Kelly, is he another Steve Spurrier who knows offense but not the NFL? Do we protect ourselves by also importing the 1985 Chicago Bears on defense? All I know is, the best team in college football 2012 is ‘Mighty’ Oregon’s ‘Fighting’ Ducks.

    No quack, er bull.

  8. Craig Glazer says:

Don’t look now, but the Glaze is about to go perfect on pro and college this weekend, if Atlanta clears, again, I don’t see many of the old ‘haters’ calling me out on … you don’t know anything about football? Luck, huh… nobody has put this kind of record up for TWO YEARS, nobody, not here anyways…just saying. Thanks for your support…lets keep it rolling I know how much you readers love this!

  9. harley says:

glaze hits the perfecta…way to go glaze…8-0…stick to sports..not politics…
and i’m sure all the glaze haters have gone away because seriously the
    guy knows football…
nice….i don’t bet football so your numbers are useless.

  10. Craig Glazer says:

    30-13-3. Good one.
