The mugshot on the front page of today’s Kansas City Star reminded me of something. The time eight years ago when Star editor Mike Fannin took a similar news bullet here at KC Confidential for his run-ins with the law.
A pair of DUI convictions, two days of slam time and three days of house arrest to be exact.
Make no mistake, Greifens alleged proclivities are more than just newsworthy. Anytime you can pair sex and politics with one of the highest offices in the land, that’s news.
But when you boil it down to its essence, an “invasion of privacy” charge pales by comparison to actual convictions for putting the general public at great risk.
Embattled Missouri Governor Eric Greitens is a Boy Scout compared to Fannin.
Funny thing though…
Not only did Fannin’s most current mug shot not make the front page of the local newspaper, it went conveniently unreported.

Instead of Fannin getting the boot, publisher Mark Zeiman promoted him to editor.
Go figure.
Of course, when I self reported my DUI around that same time, Fannin and the newspaper were more than happy to give me a little postpartum ink. As they did Sporting Kansas City’s head coach and any number of other local luminaries.
Not Fannin though.
So how did Fannin feel about being on the receiving end of – for lack of a better word – my journalistic justice?
Not good, he told me a few years later. Quite bad, in fact.
Who wants their daughter to read about dear old dad doing slam time for drinking and driving nearly 20 miles-per-hour over the speed limit and being on the receiving end of an assault conviction prior to that?
Who indeed.
Certainly not Greitens wife and kids.
Unfortunately for him, Greitens doesn’t buy his ink by the barrel and doesn’t have the option of telling the reporters and editors at the Star to give him, you know, a pass. So unlike me, Fannin decided to try and sweep his embarrassing situation under the rug.
All of that said, what’s that expression?

A dui? I mean millions of people get them….glaze had a mugshot when he went to
prison…lets see that one.
I mean if you are arrested for something like a dui…which thousands of peole
could be arrested for on any weekend….and you got guys beating their wives
on kcc….known criminals who all have mug shots.
I saw a paper at a convenience store that had all the arrestees and their mugshots
in a nwspaper. they sell a ton of them.
I mean seriously who cares about fanin or even glazo’s pic….they’re nobodies like
you hearne. I wouldnt recgonize fanin or care where he worked or care if the
star ran his story.
But when this jew greaseball tapes his whores hands up…photographs her nude and
HES THE FREAKING GOVERNOR OF A STATE…..then that’s news. Greitens the
governor knew he was committing a felony…he knew half the republicans in
jeff city hated him…and he tapes a womans hands who he’s banging
and threatens her. I don’t care about his wife or this guy’s kids. Now they know
what their daddy did. As for the wife…well she got herself into a real jam.
As glazo found out…you do the crime you do the time.

Glad to say I’ve never had one. Never been arrested. Never beat a woman.
Never had a mugshot.
But i think its funny you bring up this old shit. The only thing funnier is reading
comments whenever glazo writes an article on tony’s blog.
Greitens is an animal. Just like the rest of those guys in jeff city. How can you

Greitens is not being charged as you describe, he’s being charged with invasion of privacy.
With a woman who voluntarily did whatever it may have been.
The key word is charged.
Fannin has been thrice convicted!
And driving hammered at 20 over the speed limit put however many lives at risk.
Who was at risk when Greitens allegedly did what he did?

Fannin didn’t fire me. Corporate set forth the laying off off hundreds of people and Fannin helped lead the charge to hire me back to freelance the column but was not allowed to do so for 12 months…during which time, let’s just say, I ingratiated myself

I don’t know if this guy is guilty or not, of what he has been accused of, but Hearne’s comparison is apt, to this point, as far as I can tell.
