Glazer: Best Chiefs Team in Forever Looks Ahead to Playoffs

With last night’s big win over Denver the Chiefs are in a position to get the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and a bye….

That is if a wounded Oakland – they lost their quarterback for the season –  loses to Denver at Mile High and KC beats the Chargers.

It’s really all up to Denver to upend a badly injured Raiders squad next week. Of course, we have to beat Chargers as well. If that happens, the Chiefs have a real shot to go deep in the playoffs, if they play like they did last night.

It’s funny, but when the Chiefs win and it’s a solid win.

And naturally, after a big win there’s far less noise from the fans – fewer complaints and less to talk about.

Clearly, head coach Andy Reid listened to the media, fans and his players.

He got Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, our two best weapons, the ball early and often. Result: two long TD’s, one from each. KC’s D stepped up, although the Broncos offense was weak to say the least. Their young quarterback had an off game, so it’s hard to measure this win totally.

The Broncos knew they likely were out of the playoffs and their offense was not going to help much, so maybe their effort was a bit off. Hard to say.

Reid even employed a fun play at game’s end with 360 pound Dantari Poe going in for what looked like a short goal line run. Instead he passed the ball to the back of the end zone for a touchdown. Nice, fun and unique. The game was over at that point and the Chiefs had a huge lead late, but it was interesting and fun to see.

Tyreek Hill was his usual amazing self, going once again untouched for a long TD run of 70 yards from scrimmage. And Hill had another run of 20 yards, proving yes, he is a big time running back as well. He had just under 100 yards on just 6 carries, wow.

Tight end Travis Kelce had over 160 yards on 11 catches and one big TD. QB Alex Smith was solid, but had one INT and still had trouble with his short game throwing in the red zone. Smith did run the ball himself and well, including one for a TD.

That will be needed from him if KC is to win in the postseason.

Let’s be honest, the Steelers and Pats look to be stronger than KC.

I’d hate to face either one oHowever, i the road. If the Chiefs can play as they did yesterday and get Hill and Kelce the ball often, they can beat anyone.

It really comes down to the offensive line and Alex Smith.

The Chiefs defense is capable of holding down the bad guys with help from the offense. No matter how it ends the Chiefs have had a very good season, the best in years. And Reid’s best season here in KC.

It looks like a 12-4 ending.

Hey, maybe that will help destroy our curse of one and done with 13-3 teams! We’ll see.

Do you even bother to read the….stuff…you’ve written in the past?

  2. CG says:

AGAIN SORRY READERS…Hearne writes the headlone, mine was Contender Not Pretender, much different than best Chiefs team ever…they are good and doing better but no not great…maybe one day? Not yet.

  3. Orphan of the Road says:

When Andy took over the Eagles he met John Chaney at a restaurant one evening. As they chatted John told him the people of Philadelphia were good people. But don’t ever listen to the fans.

And he didn’t and I doubt he does now.

Listening to the fans and media is like getting a medical checkup from a Dept of Ag meat inspector.

  4. CG says:

Yes Orphan you are likely correct. Reid made the moves because he knew he had too and it worked. The Chiefs will be a better team with Hill and Kelce as constant targets..our other guys don’t have their talent, Conley, Maclin or Ware. I think they will all do better as Hill and Kelce succeed. Boy after watching Dallas last night, damn they have some weapons huh.

Nobody knows what will happen in the playoffs. I think we can all agree Pats and Dallas look to be tough to take down. Anything can happen.

  5. Richard Cranium says:

    Congratulations on another unreadable effort.

  6. CG says:

Lets see Richard says its unreadable and Lance wants to know if I read what I wrote before this story on Chiefs. The story is correct as far as anyone that knows the game. Its football boys not world war ‘three’ opinions on the issues…as I’ve written several times things change…at times I thought the Chiefs were not going to do so well like early in the year, they got better and the rest we know…you guys just like to bitch no matter what I write, seems I have been pretty spot on most of the time…I don’t see anything from you two on ‘whats going to happen’ or has happened, just grips…personal…nice.

    • LanceTheIntern says:

I’ll take your non-response to my question as a “No”.

Also — an obviously false statement in the story:

“Clearly, head coach Andy Reid listened to the media, fans and his players.”

I’m sure I could find more, but I stopped reading when I got to this garbage.

      • CG says:

Lance, my God, what was meant was of course Reid was aware of all the attention following the loss to the Titans by media, fans etc…that the Chiefs needed to go to Hill and Kelce much more…no surprise there…did he listen? Did he care? We don’t really know…but he ‘heard it’ and he responded. I’m sure he was aware of NOT using them enough on his own…no doubt…his state of mind is his own…he did after the loss say ‘It’s on me about not enough touches to Hill” etc…. I don’t think his listening or not is a big issue…using them more is an issue and it paid off Sunday against Denver…I’m sure they will continue to be the focus of our offense…no question…they are needed…enough on that. I still believe our future in playoffs depends more on the performance of Alex Smith.

        • LanceTheIntern says:

Let me hit you with some logic, Glazer. If “we don’t really know”, then it is not “clear” that “…head coach Andy Reid listened to the media, fans and his players.”

          Got that?

          • CG says:

Lance as made clear of course nobody knows what goes on in his head or anyone else…EVEN KELCE talked about it after the game…so he sure heard it. I don’t think its a huge issue. So you are right nobody including me knows…happy now…

          • LanceTheIntern says:

I’d be happier if you’d use a little common sense in your writing — like “Perhaps head coach Andy Reid listened to the media, fans and his players”.

But asking you to use common sense is apparently like asking a fish to climb a tree.

    • Frank says:

You’re always spot on CG. When the Chiefs lose you tell us they lost, and when they win, you tell us they won. And you go deeper than that by telling us that WIN MEAN GOOD, LOSS MEAN BAD, grunt, grunt.

      • CG says:

I can always count on you two guys to have some ‘hate’ no matter what…now its about what Reid did or didn’t think…ok…like I have often said you guys write what you think will happen…who will win, why, spread etc…be my guest.

        • LanceTheIntern says:

Just to be clear — what I wrote was most definitely NOT about “what Reid did or didn’t think”. It was about your poor writing skills.

Just as this is about your poor reading comprehension.

  7. Harry Balczak says:

Thanks to the fat guy TD pass Denver has an incentive to screw the Chiefs

    • rww says:

      That’s my opinion too!

      • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

If you think losing to the Raiders on their home field the last game of the season is “acceptable” to the team, fans and ownership (i.e. Elway) because it will “screw” the Chiefs, you’re out of your mind. Who would be more “screwed”? The Raiders by going from the #2 slot and a bye to #5 wildcard and playing on the road or the Chiefs by staying exactly where they are today? Trust me, there is no love lost between the Raiders and Broncos.

  8. CG says:

rww and Harry, good points but I think Denver doesn’t want to lose to Oakland on the last game either, they dislike them as much as KC…I believe they will try to win the game. I think last years world champs want to go out with a win not another loss. Problem is CAN THEY. EVEN with a new quarterback at Oakland, who has little experience and is likely not going to be great, he still has more weapons than Denver on offense. Can the Broncos score points, can their D hold off Oakland? I’m hoping the Denver D can make Oakland turn the ball over to help their offense. I do believe the Chiefs will need the 2 spot to have a real chance to go to the AFC championship game, likely in New England…the Chiefs would need a fantastic effort to beat Tom Brandy and good old Bill there, something we don’t seem to be able to do on the road against a ‘great team’…but maybe this will be their time. We all know Alex Smith is not equal to Brady or Big Ben…however maybe our defense and guys like Hill and Kelce can help Smith get it done….yes its uphill.

  9. CG says:

Boy the Chiefs bring out the beast in all of us…

  10. Laura B. says:

It’s unwise to ignore large social trends such as football, so I’m an observer of it rather than a fan. Having said that, it seems odd fans would suggest that a pro football team would play poorly simply because they have no motivation to do otherwise. Teams win because it’s in their individual and collective interest to do so without regard for other considerations, especially in the professional ranks. Fans should have every reason to believe the Denver Broncos will give a full effort on Sunday as will Oakland, San Diego and Kansas City. Best of luck to all the teams.
