Glazer: There Goes the Chiefs Super Bowl Chances

Well, the Chiefs hopes of a Super Bowl are all but gone…

Their luck ran out at Arrowhead in a game they should have easily won. They had countless chances to end it. Four times inside the red zone, one TD that Alex ran in…two stops at the one yard line. Spencer Ware just doesn’t have it. We have no running game unless Tyreek Hill gets the ball.

Oh, they chose not to use him hardly at all even though he is nearly the team’s entire offense.

QB Alex Smith and head coach Andy Reid tried to run the clock out from the second quarter on, just as they had done with Oakland. Resulting in zero points in the second half of either game.

TheTitans with less than two minutes and no time outs easily drove to our 35 yard line to try a 54 yard field goal – a miss – however we called a time out and they hit the next one.

We lose 19-17.

But we deserved to lose with no offense all year.

We have some weapons, but Smith is just not good enough.

Reid takes an hour between plays and that doesn’t work, on and on – we’re lucky to be 10-4 and a wild card.

We will of course go nowhere in playoffs.

We just don’t have the offense. We really never did. Hill and Travis Kelce are great, but we just can’t get them the ball enough. We have the league’s worst running game. Our D counts on turnovers and you just can’t for every game.

It all caught up with the Chiefs Sunday and now they play for a ONE AND DONE wild card.

Sad but true.

Man, we lost a game that was over in our favor about 15 times. Hard to watch and hard to stomach, but we lost. This season is not going to end well.

That’s the way things go though Chiefs Land.

Tony Romo next year?

Otherwise another sad season. Alex Smith just can’t get it done and he won’t. Nice guy, works hard, just not good enough.

  1. Harry Balczak says:

It was bound to happen soon….look at the Jacksonville game. The Chiefs all but gift wrapped that one and Jacksonville refused it….the “miracle” comeback against San Diego…relying on a pick two to beat Atlanta. This team has been doing it with mirrors all season.

    • The Word says:

Smoke and mirrors hides a lot of flaws in the regular season. But in the playoffs, all smoke and mirrors shows IS the flaws. Think ’95 and 2003.

I think the Chiefs are showing the flaws. It wouldn’t surprise me if they lose at least one to either Denver or San Diego. Limp to the playoffs and get beat by a Steelers or Ravens.

This team has been running on fumes all season and looks like they finally have ran empty.

  2. No-Go Andrew says:

Reid doesn’t get it. Best playmakers don’t get the ball. QB doesn’t see people open and throws it to the enemy in the end zone. Denver comes in and destroys KC. SD plays hard and we win- barely. No super bowl for Andy.

  3. Jack Springer says:

Maybe you have a friend somewhere who well tell you to stop writing about things you know nothing about.

The Chiefs chances for the Super Bowl are not over. They lost a game.

    • CG says:

Well Jack thank goodness I have you as a friend to tell me I don’t know anything about football. I’d like to think I’ve proven differently. So you think KC is a super bowl team? Ok. I wish they were. The Chiefs are a good team. They are a playoff team. Because of so many flaws they are an extreme long shot to be in the super bowl, sorry to let you know that. Numbers and performance don’t lie. Our offense is dreadful, our quarterback does not match up with the Tom Brady’s or Big Ben’s out there. We have almost no rushing game or short yardage game. Without Tyreek Hill we are not even in the playoff picture. Yet he is not used enough. This is my opinion and most other NFL observers..maybe not yours. So feel free to educate me and the rest of the football media folks.

      • LanceTheIntern says:

You stated in the article h:eadline
“There Goes the Chiefs Super Bowl Chances”

In your reply to Jack Springer, you stated: “…they are an extreme long shot to be in the super bowl”

So you’ve managed to contradict yourself between your own headline and your reply to Jack.

        Why?

        • Super Dave says:

Lance, I have brought up his contradictions and untruths for years, you’re wasting your time pointing it out and I truly believe you already know this. Craig will respond calling you a no name, a loser, a hater, while wanting to meet and beat you up and a host of many other extremely hateful comments all the while saying we are the haters. You can’t beat city hall and you can’t speak the honest truth on this site against things that are not true or correct.

  4. Paul Trembley says:

“Alex Smith just can’t get it done and he won’t. Nice guy, works hard, just not good enough.”

Holy sh*t. Literally LESS than a month ago, you wrote something titled “Scribe Vows Never Again to Bash Alex Smith.” You were already envisioning his Hall of Fame induction speech.

Man, you are seriously the worst. You have the impulse control of a hyperactive 6th grader.

    • CG says:

UH not ture, I said, THE TEAM WAS BEHIND HIM AND I’D LIGHTEN UP ON HIM…far from Hall of fame…guys that hate…I’d say I’ve been pretty spot on with Chiefs and picks as of late…I did say I wouldn’t bash him again, true, but hard not too under the circumstance. I wouldn’t be covering the Chiefs fairly if I didn’t point out his poor play, AGAIN. The game manger who turns it over in the red zone 3 times in three games with INT’s and even a fumble…its too much…any of those plays taken back and scores we’d be 12-2 now…so yeah he messed up.

  5. Orphan of the Road says:

Tony Romo? Seriously? He is one hit away from being a cripple. How come you are on the bandwagon for another retread. Especially one who hasn’t been able to stay healthy.

Where did Hill and Kelce disappear in the last 40-minutes? Oh yeah, Andy.

Only took the fanboys four-years to realize it is the same Andy Reid who couldn’t win the big ones in Philadelphia.

At least they ain’t the LA Lambs.

    • CG says:

Orphan, I can’t argue with Tony Romo’s shortcomings…I do think he’s outstanding when healthy and has weapons like we do. I can’t argue his health and age..its true he might fall apart early on…don’t know…we have to find a young guy and Tony is at best a one year wonder to get deeper in post season with all the talent this team has…if he was well and played his B+ game and we’d draft two good O lineman, which we can, and a back, which we can…might make a huge difference…Yes Andy is Andy…why Philly fans were glad to ship him off but like Marty, we were better with him than what has come after…Marty was a good coach but had bad luck. Andy just can’t figure out how to move the ball on short yardage and takes forever to call plays…doesn’t work well…its not all his fault, but sure you have to go to Tyreek and Kelce much more…

    • miket... says:

      Lambs… funny!

  6. CG says:

Look those couple of you who want to hate on me about the Chiefs is kinda silly. They do it to themselves. Like most of us I want them to win and be great…they are good, not great..hope springs eternal..but reality is a short playoff run…My NFL picks got really good the last 7 weeks and of course no comments on that…so I might know something.

When you predict you will always make mistakes…nothing is sure out there. I was first media guy to get on Trump train, but called him out for stupid things he did along the way and did say he could win in the end but it was uphill, ‘he had a sluggers shot’ and he pulled it off. By game time Trump went from an 8 to 1 dog in Vegas to a 2.5 to 1 underdog, so they saw he had a shot too. Still uphill, it was amazing. Chiefs could still get the 2 seed if Oakland loses a game and we beat Denver and SD…that could happen giving them a much better shot to go to the AFC title game. Denver can’t be thrilled coming here Xmas night for a meaningless game on their part…so I do look for a big KC win here…SD is playing for pride but is always dangerous…we should win if we can fix the run game a bit…who knows.

  7. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Come on, CG. You’re like a wind sock. If not for a STUPID time-out at the end of the game, the Chiefs are in the #2 position for the playoffs. When are head coaches going to learn this doesn’t work!! Anyways………

The Chiefs have a chance to SWEEP the season against the entire AFC West. With a little help from the Broncos, the #2 slot is still in play.

KC has already exceeded my expectations for the 2016-17 season. Have you looked at the injuries/IR they have overcome? It might be catching up to them, but I know better than to count them out of anything. Superbowl bound? Highly unlikely. But, there are still 2 games left before writing the book on this season.

Go Chiefs, you magnificently flawed bastards!

P.S. Tony Romo? You want to go into 2017 with a 37 year old piece of glass that hasn’t won jack squat? That’s the answer? Wow.

Cheers, my friend! I love your passion.

    • CG says:

I don’t disagree with anything you said Jim. But I said we have a shot still with AFC West and number 2…I don’t just think we lost that game on a field goal…as mentioned in story and me on radio about 10 other ways to win it before that mistaken time out…and you said ‘unlikely to go to super bow’ as well…hey we all hope it happens, by being upset or mad we help cure the pain of losing again…only one city is happy in February…the one who wins it all…NEW ENGLAND, DALLAS, NEW YORK, STEELERS….UH likely not us…AGAIN…but yes they have been fun to watch and have overachieved for sure…a couple players have made that happen, Peters, Berry, and mostly Hill along with Kelce…otherwise we’d end up 8=8 or so…but hey 10-4 ain’t bad…and 12-4 very good…lets see.

  8. Richard Cranium says:

Mental little person. I can’t believe you allow yourself to look this foolish week in and “weak” out. I’m also amazed someone who had a blog that was interesting and almost vibrant would let a buffoon such as you drag it down to its current existence. All the good writers who have been on here (and even commenters) have long ago left for greener and more interesting pastures. I wish I could say it’s fun to come back and check, but it’s really kind of sad and you on top of it all tend to be the most pathetic. Your self-aggrandizing and lack of personal awareness is mind boggling, but it doesn’t surprise me. This is what this place has been rendered to, and I for one miss it’s days gone by.

  9. Libertarian says:

Craig, you cheerlead for Romo like Whitlock did for Jeff George.

    Silly.

  10. CG says:

Wow the haters come out for a ‘football’ story? Ok…Well Dick, can I call you Dick? Seems I was an original writer on here, have written the most stories and have the most comments…soooo…who is it you miss? As for ‘your’ opinion, there really isn’t one…its just I hate Craig. Thats bout it…reason…none…just hate… I see folks on here say I’m wrong, don’t know sports..yet none of them predict anything just bitch when its over…thats all….oh well…the dogs bark and the caravan moves on….

    • Paul Trembley says:

“have written the most stories and have the most comments” ≠ an actual, good, entertaining and/or thoughtful writer.

  11. CG says:

Well to some of you who are not my ‘fans’ sorry bout that. I used to write so many stories on lost love, crazy events with women, so on…funny, but a bit over the line so I quit doing it. People get offended huh.

As for my sports knowledge…Almost on Q Metro Sports ran TOP TEN CHIEFS 90’S last night a few times. More to come…and I was one of the on air personalities that gave ‘expert’ opinion on the matter. So hate to inform you ‘somebody’ must think I know just a bit on sports and football.

We all have opinions…its ok not to agree with me, but the looking for personal reason to attack me or other writers isn’t the way to do that. As I have written many times, I don’t do stories to attack anyone here in KC, I only respond and get angry when someone is just plain mean spirited for no real reason, most of the time fake name people. In the case of Paul Trembley at least he is a real person and has the balls to state his case without hiding behind a fake name.

  12. CG says:

AFC PRO BOWL CHIEFS…FOR THIS YEAR….I THOUGHT IT WAS CORRECT…ON OFFENSE…JUST ONE, TRAVIS KELCE…AGREED…ON DEFENSE…ERIC BERRY AND MARCUS PETERS..AGREED AND SPCIAL TEAMS … TYREEK HILL…AGREED…did they miss anyone? I think Dee Ford would have made it with a couple more sacks and having a couple good games recently, his injury played a part in that…same with Houston out most of the year…DJ I think would have made the team had he not been hurt.

The fact only Kelce was on the squad, shouts out the Chiefs problems. None of our offensive lineman were even in the hunt. I do believe its the O line that really hurts the overall short running game for KC. They can’t blow anyone off the line much. They pass protect on a non consistent level as well, sometimes decent sometimes not.

  13. Laura B. says:

I’d like to point out to the author that all the playoff spots are “one and done,” not just the wildcards. What a massive whine. KC lost a game. Get over it.

    • CG says:

Uh, no Laura, if you win you move to the next game and if you win all the playoff games and win the Super Bowl you are the NFL Champ….how it works.
