Paul Wilson: Race Card Trifecta

The racial animosity sweepstakes by local Democratic officials in conjunction with the Kansas City Star continues unabated…

On February 14 twenty-two people were shot outside Union Station at the Kansas City Chief’s Super Bowl Victory Parade. One died and 15 others suffered life threatening wounds. Nine children were among those injured.

At the time little was known about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The next day, the 15th, Kansas City Police said they did not believe the incident was terrorism, but thought it possibly was a private dispute that turned violent. They also said two arrests had been made, but that both were juveniles, and thus no information could be disclosed about the suspects.

That same day, Missouri Governor Mike Parsons who, along with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, had been at the rally, issued a strong statement condemning the violence. He said it was a shame that what should have been a joyous occasion was spoiled by this violent act. He said, “We can’t let some thugs just take over and ruin what happened.”

Remember, this was on the 15th.

The next day, the 16th, KC Mayor Quinton Lucas was interviewed by radio host and former Star journalist Steve Kraske. He said of Governor Parson’s remarks: “I certainly do think this was criminal activity, it’s lawlessness and I think that’s troubling.” Lucas said, “But ‘thugs’ is a dog whistle in the most classic sense, and I have seen this dog whistle time and again.”

Lucas’s comments and the resulting Star coverage were a preemptive strike. Make the story about white racism (a “classic” dog whistle.) and Missouri gun laws, and not the reckless criminals who caused the tragedy. Otherwise, Lucas’s comments make no sense.

I’m sorry, Mayor Q, but the urban dictionary says the definition of “thug” is an aggressive and violent young criminal. Synonyms include “goon,” “hood,” “hoodlum,” “punk,” “strong-armer,” “tough,” and “bully.”

The Oxford Dictionary defines the term as a violent, aggressive person, especially one who is a criminal, e.g. “he was attacked by a gang of thugs.” The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as a man who acts violently, especially a criminal. If you notice, none of these definitions mention race, creed, color, or religion.I’m sure you would prefer “young scholars,” but if you’re in a crowded venue, pull a gun, and randomly shoot 20+ people, you’re firmly in the thug lane with your foot on the gas.

The Mayor had prefaced his slam on Parsons by saying, “I have respect for the governor. We get along well.”

However, his affection and respect apparently did not prevent him from taking a gratuitous cheap shot at Parsons by playing the race card.

Mayor Q, remember, when you were a Councilman, railing against your predecessor, Sly James, demanding he pass laws to stop the KC murder rate? As karma would have it, now you’re in the driver’s seat and the murder rate is skyrocketing. How do these words you said then taste now?

Sorry I see Lucas as the phoney he really is. He has rode the race card and will keep doing so since it appears he knows nothing else as he has demonstrated. Remember the photo of the Mayor in the street fist raised in the air? This was right before things really got bad on the Plaza with car burnings and well lets call it for what it was, RIOTING.

Different movements sometimes use different terms to describe the raised fist salute: whereas in the United States it is widely known as the Black Power salute due to use by many African-American activists.

So the question I have is Lucas a Mayor for the people, all the people, or an activist for African-Americans?

As I have said in print many a time the gun isn’t the issue, the issue is with those who have guns and their huge disregard for the law. But to point out who really leads the way in killings and shootings Lucas would have to call out those of his own race and as we have seen he won’t do that, no instead he’d rather march in the streets with a raised fist and speak ill of those who are not afraid to speak the truth.

I find it particularly interesting as it was Mayor Q, then a councilman, calling out Sly, the current Mayor, for “not passing laws to lower the crime and murder rate.”
Q overlooked the fact we already have “laws” on the books. They are called car jacking, robbery, murder, homicide, etc..
I wrote about that right here on KCC. That led to multiple meetings between Sly and myself, where he asked me, “Why does a 60 year old WHITE GUY get this, but we many of our own people don’t?”
      And today?
Q’s in charge and the murder rate’s increasing…
Hence, my comment, how do those words taste NOW, Q?

“The Thugs were known for their ritualistic assassinations in the name of the Hindu goddess Kali. They considered themselves to be the children of Kali, and believed that they played a positive role in saving human lives. The Thugs considered murder and robbery to be a religious duty and considered themselves to be holy and honorable men.”
    So there’s that…
