Hearne: Whatever Happened to – Uh, me?

I moved back from Arizona late last summer, re-started my car career, and after not feeling the glam in Topeka this time out, retreated to Lawrence where I’m now at Crown Volkswagen / Crown Toyota.

(So feel free to call, text or bother me.)

If that’s not a good enough excuse for not writing much – and it probably isn’t – some kid in his girlfriend’s uninsured Ford Taurus crossed the center line and wiped out my Honda Civic Si the day before Thanksgiving.

Long story short…I lived, had a turkey TV dinner by myself on turkey day. That after the steering wheel airbag did a hardcore number on my chest. Pretty painful, much to my surprise!

Those are my excuses – take ’em or leave ’em.

So what all have we both missed? Stay tuned cuz you’ll soon find out.

Obviously, the Travis Kelce- Taylor Swift thing has taken off since they more-or-less “came out.”

Still I wonder how Tay Tay and her fam will feel when some of Travis’s past exploits become better known.

Taylor’s rock star glam and big bucks aside, football hunks like Kelce – with lotsa groupie and dating action and opportunities (i.e. younger, buxom hotties of color) – don’t tend to zero in on “older” women their own age. Let alone ones approaching the big 4-0.

Then again, how many of them are zillionaires?

With Kelsey’s career pigskin nearing an end and Swift pushing 40, that may explain in part their allegedly kicking around marriage concept.

As for the couple hanging in KC long term, don’t hold your breath. He’s a Cleveland boy, she’s a Tennessee grrrl, and bumping around the Cowtown would only serve to dredge up memories of his romantic and party past. And good luck selling Kelce’s new $6 million manse to the Chiefs new tight end next year.

I’m also wondering how long Swift’s family will find Patrick Mahomes‘ tacky wife to their liking. Given her obsession with money and saying dumb stuff.

Anyway, I’m back, so let’s take it from there!

Glad to hear you’re okay was beginning to wonder about you. Sometimes being alone on Thanksgiving has it’s pluses. In my younger days Swanson dinners kept me from starving while working part time and going to school full time.

    • admin says:

      Yeah, I’m with ya.

I remember freshman year at the U of A in Tucson going to Safeway and buying four of those babies, so my girlfriend at the time and I could have “seconds” for Thanksgiving!

  2. Jim aka BWH says:

“Approaching the big 4-0” HC, did the airbag actually hit you in the head. If being 34 years old is “approaching 40”, I have to rethink my whole “how old do I feel” thing.

Glad you’re back, buddy. How things get on track for you.

    Cheers!

Nope, it hit me right in the upper chest and it still hurts.

Not like it did at first; for about three or so weeks sneeze or a cough was plenty painful. Not sure if this demonstrates what a wimp I am, or I should just be thankful to still be walking the earth.

  3. Farflunger says:

RIP to the Si I just pray you say screw it and get the Type R, new or used.

The Midwest is A LOT cheaper for cars like this.

      Too late…
I got five grand more than I paid for it from the insurance and bought a brand new VW Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary edition with my employee discount, which covered the new car plus sales tax.
Not a bad deal; I got more than three years and nearly 40,000 miles out of it, now I have a new car with four years and 50,000 mile warranty.
Then again, the jury’s out on the physical damages to moi!

      • Farflunger says:

Damn, that is a pretty good deal. As long as I have a stick I’m pretty happy, I loved those Si seats how are the seats in the GLI? I guess the throws are very different but you can get used to it. I’m still in Thailand riding a Honda scooter but about to buy a Triumph 400x motorcycle. Lot’s of riding left in these old bones. Congrats on your new ride!

          It was a killer deal…

My 2020 Si was – for lack of a better word – sexier. Not a big fan of the new Civic sedan looks.

The Si had closer, tighter shifts and brought out the bandit in me. The VW shifts are longer, the car feels much bigger and while it’s quite capable, it feels more like an “adult” car.

          Should keep me outta trouble.

          But still enjoyable

          • Farflunger says:

Yes, the Si was sexier but overall I felt the infotainment and display were pretty bland..and the road noise was bothersome. I had the 17 Si I do think the newer model lineup is pretty good..if I stayed in the U.S. I probably would have bought either the Type R(it’s SUPER EXPENSIVE here!) or, more likely, the 2023/24 manual Civic Sport.

I love cool cars but don’t miss all the expenses. …Enjoy your ride Hearne!

          • admin says:

Grazie mille, not wild about the new Civic sedan styling, including the new Si…
The 40th Anniversary Jetta GLI is a bit more of an “adult” car, but still quite capable, especially with a fading fast, 6 speed manual!

First, welcome back and glad you are doing well after the accident. Second, should you really be throwing shade at Kelce/Taylor about possibly getting married?? From your lonely Thanksgiving dinner remark I’m surmising you are now 3 and out on the marriage front – oof. Not sure you should ever provide marriage insights. Last, Taylor is approaching 40?? WTF. She is 34. Kinda seems like Craig Glazer math on his gambling losses. Looking forward to more posts!

    • admin says:

Fair enuff, then again, it’s like I’m giving marriage advice, just a comment…

Hey, when you’re over 60, 34 looks pretty young. But when guys with fame and dough like Kelsey are thinking long term, getting someone a handful of years younger seems a better bet.

But for her fame, money and good looks, chances are he’d be looking younger. So we’ll see.

I think his time here as a Chiefs is approaching an end, so it’s not like we’ll be seeing Taylor on the Plaza or wherever much…or not for long.

My guess is, one or both of them will wake up and think the better of it, but it wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong about something.

I’m already “three and out” but I’m just escaping the desert for now and trying to do something I like and am halfway good at…selling cars!

      • Farflunger says:

If I was Kelce I’d pass on Taylor, she’s similar to Katy in that she only looks good with gobs of makeup. Travis can do much better.

I don’t think Kelce wants to leave the Chiefs just yet. It’s hard to break away from the best QB on the planet. Now that’s a love affair!

        • admin says:

I think that’s true, but based on his production from last year to this – and his advancing years – I think his time is fast approaching

          • Farflunger says:

I don’t think Gronk retired until he won a final Super Bowl with Tompa in 2022.

Kelce should hang on until there are no more rings to be gotten. God that was awful English.

          • admin says:

That’s OK, it’s the thought that counts, right?

  5. Super Dave says:

When we were younger running a website or blog was fun and now that we are older as in say my doings where I have two of them while involved in contributing to a number of other things gets tedious at times. I mean come on I’m retired now who wants deadlines? There are times you want to do it and times you think why bother. People bitch at what you post and bitch when you don’t post. Of late I have deemed it a love hate hobby although my Christmas one I do still enjoy playing with.

My new favorite slogan sometimes is to simply reply back with, “Some days all I want to be is a missing person.”

tell miles to give you one of those ultra toyotas…you are not a vw man! Hello to southy, ditch digger, and boxman. just passing thru.

    Hearne
I have known you for many of years. Your thriving years as a great POSITIVE writer of KC entertainment and fun!
WOW, when did you get so bitter and jaded?
Back in the day you did a lot to support us and we did a lot to support you. Jack Hanrahan and I are still business partners, since 1986.
Glad you are back and look forward to many POSITIVE writings from you!

    • admin says:

Sorry I let you down, wild man…

You are right though,I’m not as much plugged in to pure, unadulterated fun. On the other hand, I’d lie to think that I’ve always had a penchant for edgy and controversial stores.

I’ll take your critique under advisement!
