Hearne: Biggest Losers in Chiefs Loss

I hate to admit it, but…

I’ll go ahead and take credit for jinxing the Chiefs by hitching their fortunes to the ghost of Craig Glazer.

And for the record, the Scribe would have had plenty to say about the team’s losing. He was without peer in his ability to assign blame.

So allow me totake the liberty of doing it for him.

Most people would probably blame tonight’s loss  on a porous Chiefs defense.

Fair enough, but…

I’m going to point the fickle finger at star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

That’s right, in  spite of Mahomes second half and late game heroics.

Because had he not choked and played so poorly for the entire first half of the game, the Chiefs would have won handily.

Biggest  loser: Mahomes again, probably because the odds of him landing monster paydays like the one Chiefs start Travis Kelce got with McDonald’s may have to wait a bit.

Another big loser: the Kansas City Star. That after choking out no fewer than six Chiefs special sections Sun day. It stood to cash in even more big time had the team gone to the Super Bowl – and even more had they’d won it.

And every last nickel counts at the daily newspaper these days, its staff having shriveled from more than 2,000 to fewer than 200…and it’s still hemorrhaging red ink.

As Craig would undoubtedly have pointed out, area sports fans are now stuck with a diminished KU basketball team and another long summer of Royals rebuilding – while we wait to see if KU and K-State football land on more solid footing with their dramatic coaching changes.

That is, until the 2019 Chiefs season rises from the ashes of today late next summer.

“I’m going to point the fickle finger of blame at star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.”

    – you’re right of course, HC (didn’t know you had it in you… you’ve cojones bigger than kelce the klown’s oversized head)

    “That’s right”

    – good, we’ve consensus…

“despite his second half and late game heroics.”

    – ‘Choke’ Mahomes (Kerouac christened him said earlier the 2018 regular season) has not been able to handle prime time pressure. Earlier in 2018 he gagged vs the Patriots in NE, then vs the Rams out in LA and again tonight in KC vs the same Patriots. Stats his as losses do not stand ‘the fact test’, reason why outside hyperbole, he IS NOT the best player in the NFL unbiased analysis; that subjectively he walks on water confines KC, all we’ve got save for ‘wait till next year’, part 2019, verse 50.

He is massively over-hyped (just as those who are still want to believe the 1971 Chiefs were ‘best’), and the beneficiary (as all players today) modern game wherein stats and player results are bogus, compared legit ones yesteryear. Today’s stats, officiating (see Saints debacle today) and the ever heavy player overdose ‘hey – look at me’ everybody!’ nonsense, proliferates.

“Because had Mahomes not choked and played so poorly for the entire first half of the game, the Chiefs would have won handily.”

    – [note to KCC readership: Kerouac swears it is HC writing these ^ traitorous quotes in italics, not yours truly] 😀

Yes HC, Mahomes overthrowing a wide open receiver (a sure td), taking sacks due to reckless (and stupid) style of play (at the worst times), fumbling the ball, as well (and this is becoming a habit with him) whining while looking at officials for a flag anytime a defender gets anywhere near him, is why reality Trump’s feelings like local Nancy’s exhibit. Say in all seriousness, I do not believe Mahomes would have lasted through a single game the 1960’s. For that matter, neither would Brady, or rest the pantywaists playing today; such the $orry lot entertainment- er, ‘pro football’, century 21.

    – well catsup, there’s always Hunt’s red… and Clark’$ green

“Another big loser: the Kansas City Star.”

    – yes… they’ve already started with the ‘we wuz robbed’ excuse making (blaming the officials though Pats suffered more penalties, seems to be the excuse of choice as we speak.) Some incorrectly believe Kerouac merely enjoys dissing the swiss Chiefs for the angst it creates – fact is, no one was ever a bigger Chiefs fan than I, once upon a time. That is, until venerable reality replaced youthful fantasy. Truth – they’ve been underachievers since the days of Hank Stram, and always prove me right in the end. Every… single… year…. since… 1970.

Why did they lose tonight? Same reason they’ve lost before – no discipline. Whether Choke’ Mahomes asphyxiating first half, Ford lining up neutral zone end of game or LB’s not maintaining their gaps and DB’s being beaten routinely (due lack of smarts and/or ability), kelce the klown dropping (the usual for him) a key pass(es) (as well being totally outplayed by ‘old’ Rob ‘Clutch’ Gronkowski when it mattered; so much fort kelce the klown ‘the best TE’… just like tyweak ‘1 catch’ hill’s ‘the best receiver’.)

Also, the usual suspects did their typical shuckin’ and jivin’ routines during the game:
kelce the klown, tyweak hill, chrissy jones, dame williams the notables who performed their standard ‘hey – look at me everybody’ showboating fare gyrations/machinations. No discipline on the field deportment (see above referenced guys), no discipline in the clutch (ford), no discipline off the field too (the former swiss chief hunt)… even as an lifelong Chiefs fan, these are the type of players that I enjoy seeing ‘lose’, because the fact is, they ‘act like’ losers. Yeah but just wait till next year… again (now serving part 2019… verse 50.)

Aft Superbowl 1, post game, a few Chiefs (and me) remained unconvinced about the Packers superiority at the time. Like Kerouac, Len Dawson was one… Mike Garrett was another (“we’ll be back next year” his quote that day.) The late Buck Buchanan said “I’m ready to play ’em again right now.”

Upshot: fans/players of the belief Chiefs will return next year and win the Superbowl because of having player X (this means Mahomes, usually), would do well to temper their enthusiasm an bit o’ reality, nod those former Chiefs Superbowl 1 (see ‘the tale Dan Marino’, too.) . It took those ’66 Chiefs three years to get back to a Superbowl… it’s taken the Chiefs nigh on 50 years since, and they’re still waiting even get to one.

  3. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

I’ve seen this movie before..and I don’t mean the Chiefs shitting up their back in the playoffs.
I mean, Bill Belichick taking away your best options and making you do things you’re not comfortable with doing in order to beat him. Belichick’s scheming flat took Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce out of the passing game. They were non factors, by and large. Belichick also knew that Reid would panic early and often and abandon the run game if the Chiefs got behind at all. Which of course, he did. And Reid is such an offensive genius, he didn’t bother to try different ways to bust Tyreek Hill loose by giving him the ball on jet sweeps, screens, etc. And the defense…well it was a joke and run by a moron. They ran the same defense over and over. Two deep safeties and man underneath against the pass and then would change to a heavier look on the defensive line when they expected run. Brady, being the master he is would just change the play and get into something the Chiefs couldn’t defend. Oh and by the way, Tony Romo was flat out great calling this game. He was calling out plays and coverages before they even happened. He knew just by the way the Chiefs lined up, where Brady was going with the ball. He was outstanding.

Look, Tom Brady has played much better. I’d put his grade at about a C. He threw two terrible INTs and would’ve lost the game with a third if Dee Ford knew how to line up correctly. But you don’t give the greatest QB of the modern era a second chance. But the Chiefs did, and he rammed it right back up their ass as he waltzed out of Camarohead with another AFC Championship trophy…you know the one with Lamar Hunt’s name on it. That had to really sting for all the Independence and Raytown drunken trash at the game. And did anyone else notice the laser pointer some shitkicking rube Chiefs fan was using on Tom Brady? You stay classy, KC!

  4. Kerouac says:

Two post mourns now, new heights reached KC standees (fandom/media in the lead). Sinking new depths their annual rigor of a rite ‘blame game’, the Chiefs latest football Poseidon adventure. Save Our Souls and ship as team. Alas, chipped beef on toast the only version presents, no rescue beggars prefer be choosers.

Having worn out the ‘we wuz robbed by officials’ narrative, has morphed into favoring ‘changing the rules’ NFL pacify themselves yet another failure… one includes a refusal acknowledge reality, per the usual: too many holes in our swiss chiefs, just didn’t have the horses, enough Indians or whatever else in lieu result.

As the liberal left wants to change the damnable Constitution nod the electoral college (because they cannot win as such), local gridiron devotees the red, gold and fold every post season plead for same. They petition, pray, solicit and beseech the powers that be – no, not the Patriots or 29 other teams not captives a Superbowl drought that extends back seasons 1960’s – but rather the NFL itself. Have mercy on us, for we are but poor, downtrodden Chiefs/fans cannot find our way. Sheesh… have they NO shame, too?

Upshot, crux, conclusion, bottom line (mock Italian accent): “You no play-a da game, you no make-a da rules.” Back to the drawing board… ‘part 2019, verse 50’ (early line, next will also ‘not’ be our year.)

  5. Dan says:

Are Chiefs fans good fans? The latest act by a chief’s fan is shining a laser beam into Tom Brady’s face. That comes after several “chief fans” pelted Colt players with potentially dangerous snow/ice balls. A few years back a visiting player complained he was taunted with the “N” word by a “fan” and these are just the behaviors that have been publicized. Add to all of that the weekly disrespect shown Native Americans with the tomahawk chop and that silly boring adolescent chant and a pattern begins to develop. Clark Hunt, the ultimate boss is culpable by allowing that the chant music, that stupid drum and warpaint.
Hopefully most fans who “Chop” are just not thinking things through. Still, having said that, fans who engage in any of the above behaviors are not good fans and you could make a case that they’re not even good people for at least 20 days a year.

PS. Food for thought for the Chiefs players. If the Chiefs fans engage in disrespectful behavior toward Native American people that all can hear on Sundays, what disrespectful things do you think are being said by many of those same fans that you can’t hear?
