Glazer: Scribe Belly’s Up for Second Helping of Crow

AFL-preseason-game-program_1964-San-Diego-Chargers_Kansas-City-ChiefsTalk about eating my words…

With a monster win on the road against a very good team, you have to count the 3-3 Kansas City Chiefs in the hunt for post season play. Just about everyone who mattered agreed with me after the Titans loss week one. That the team was among the worst in the NFL. They had a ton of starters hurt, poor off season moves and a horrible preseason, mixed with the league’s worst defense that this season needed a rebuild.

The Chiefs looked like they’d be lucky to win six or seven games – or far less even.

However beating the San Diego Chargers on the road has fans thinking, “HEY KC ROYALS PART TWO.

Who knows? I don’t think so, but I thought this team was toast and one of the league’s worst. Head coach Andy Reid has done an excellent job of holding together a patch work team on both sides of the ball.

They have the best running attack in the league and a solid defense where there was once nothing. Maybe losing of some of the name guys like Eric Berry who weren’t performing very well was a good thing.

4386f005c01292bc4687d9e12dbf09d7Here’s the deal; the Chiefs don’t win in San Diego.

So beating the Chargers today is their biggest road win in years.

Let face it, similar to the Royals, we haven’t had a good Chiefs team since 1997, so this is nice to see for the fans. One could argue the refs helped Alex Smith out a few times, but they did the same for the Chargers. There’s just too many ghost pass interference calls in the NFL these days.

Meanwhile back in the NCAA…

MLB: AL Wild Card-Oakland Athletics at Kansas City RoyalsK-State over Oklahoma and Missouri coming off a stinker beats Florida there…and badly.

Now the Chiefs win on the road to a first place team.

Wow, the Royals magic is rubbing off on all our clubs.

Except of course, KU.

And the Chiefs dropping the Chargers 23-20 is a huge upset, catapulting them into the race now.

Go figure…

  1. Kerouac says:

Chiefs couldn’t win on their own, so, Chargers gave it to them via missed tackles, silly penalties & as referenced, KC/Smith having help courtesy the referees; 9 x out of 10 SD wins… today was #10.

KCindy on schedule a 4-7 win season as Kerouac predicted, enough to keep them from getting a high draft pick, not good enough make it to or win even if post season, per the usual… ‘wait till next year part 46’.

When they weren’t missing tackles, Chargers D lit up Kansas City. Brandon Flowers hit Charles so hard (sent him head over heels) that Flowers hurt himself, while another SD player knocked Davis back into Sunday (‘last’ Sunday – he looked like Dee Ford in that game vs SF.) Upshot: SD came into the game over-confident, quite easy to understand considering their sub .500 opponent, KC.

Next: Rams (who beat the ‘World Champions’, Seattle) come to Kansas City… should be a pretty easy win for St. Louis, a blowout likely:

    STL 911,405
    KC (timeout)

k you make glaze look like a genius and that’s hard.
You’re more wrong than glaze and make him look like
      Rothstein.
You’re a bag of hot air when you say the chargers penalties
gave the chiefs a win. That’s the game of football….did you see
Missouri …..42 points on 98 yards of actual offensive.
Its time to try tkc. They’ll believe anything over there.
That’s where your comments should be.
You’re like an old broken watch…right twice a day.
Eventual you’ll be right when you pick against the chiefs
      every week…they’re bound to lose.
Now take your fuzzy math…your b.s….your b.s. and go
over to tkc where everything is accepted.
Here you get blasted if you’re wrong.
Stop blaming the refs….calls went both ways.
Now go back to your sandbox and play with the rest of the kids.
      YOU’RE OUT…AND AS I ALWAYS SAY….WRONG AGAIN.!!!!!!!

    • CG says:

K you and I saw it the same way early on. I bet against the Chiefs for the season at under 8 1/2. Is that in jeopardy you bet. Teams that looked unbeatable by KC were not New England, Chargers, even the Broncos on the road was tight. Sure they looked bad, but hey they are playing as well as most NFL teams these days. So we can’t just call them bad because of their past. Will they make playoffs? I don’t think so but its still early and they have been way way better than I expected. Than anyone did. So give them their dues for now.

      • Kerouac says:

No can do, CG… they are thoroughly mediocre – a step up for them from their usual – alas, a step or ten below the rest. Fact be, entire NFL is mediocre, best but a stone’s throw from the dregs, Chiefs the latter category, my opine.

One other observation – the best RB on the field yesterday was SD’s Oliver… he’s going to be a star. He about broke Hali’s ankle on one run & had the Chiefs looking like they were performing a Chinese fire drill on several other runs.

Upshot: Chargers are still at the top with DEN, Chiefs are still battling the Raiders to stay out of the cellar.

That the WR’s still have no td receptions, almost half a season in the books, RB’as have 5, TE’s 3, the Bowe Show et al, 0, affirms KCindy is doing it with mirrors, good fortune, opposition apathy & undisciplined play the latter. SD gave yesterday’s game away, Chiefs certainly didn’t earn it. Poor tackling, silly penalties & one team (SD) playing uninspired due the opposition (KC) they were facing.

Will be over, again, in 10 weeks, and it will be on to ‘wait till next year part 47’. Kerouac is at once certain, crushed & unsurprised.

        • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Flash Oliver, meet pan. Enough of the comedy, K-Man. You are better as a straight-man. The dude has (2) 100 yard rushing games. Those against the woeful NYJ & OAK. The other games….11 yards (BUFF), 23 yards (JAX) & 67 yards (KC). Superstar? According to you the entire NFL is just mediocre, but this guy is the next superstar? His numbers SCREAM mediocre. OK, my friend. Your world.

Heck, Chiefs back-up RB has more rushing TD’s than Flash Oliver.

  2. harley says:

DO YOU LIKE YOUR CROW MEDIUM OR MEDIUM WELL GLAZE.
as Obama said “something is happening in Kansas city”
we’ve broken the jinx! someone took the old goat and got him some
    taco bell across from arrowhead.
It’s a start….but reid and his gang have been at this a long time…
maybe they know more than you and your phony fuzzy math.

  3. mike t. says:

Kerouac… you’re starting to sound like Harley. Chargers didn’t “give” the Chiefs anything. Neither did the refs.

Rams looked good. But they’re playing at Arrowhead this Sunday. Chiefs win.

  4. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Well, let’s have a little fact checking fun K-Man:

    Chiefs penalty yards – 73
    Chargers penalty yards – 49

    Chiefs passing yards – 211
    Chargers passing yards – 182

    Chiefs rushing yards – 154
    Chargers rushing yards – 69

    Chiefs total yardage – 365
    Chargers total yardage – 251

    Chiefs 3rd down conversions – 7 for 14
    Chargers 3rd down conversions – 3 for 10

Chiefs total first downs – 22 (3 by penalty)
Chargers total first downs – 19 (3 by penalty)

Chiefs time of possession – 39:00
Chargers time of possession – 21:00

Not sure how the Chargers “D” lit up KC offense when KC racked up 100+ yards more of offense than SD. Chiefs literally beat the Chargers in every single statistical category………but the refs and poor tackling was the cause? Ummmm, okay buddy. Don’t let the fact that the Chiefs had more penalties and more penalty yards than the Chargers get in the way of a good argument.

BTW – look at the tape again. The reason Charles popper right up from the hit by Flowers is because he put his shoulder pad into Flowers head. I bet Flowers is sure glad he lit him up like that. Flowers will be out a week or two.

    • Libertarian says:

      +1

Flowers got his bell rung but good.

      • Kerouac says:

‘Tuesday, Charles told ESPN Radio that he saw “light bulbs around my eyes” a few plays later, and that he avoided going through the NFL’s concussion protocol.’

        – Flowers knocked a spellbound Charles into Paparazzi & Pinocchio-land…

        🙂

    • Herbert Huncke says:

      Hey, Kerouac
      I think of your mother
      And the tears she cried
They would cry for none other
Than her little boy lost in a little world he hated
And that dared to drag him down
      Her little boy courageous……

      • KCMonarch says:

Ahhh, these lyrics a pleasant reminder that my girl Natalie will be here November 15 to perform with the KC Symphony in Helzberg Hall.

    • Kerouac says:

All that, and still KCindy had to hang on to win & in the waning moments. What you fail to grasp is the ‘timeliness’ of penalties/other. Chargers shot themselves in the foot… KC simply waited for it to happen, much like the Raiders give games away, have, for many years. 3-3 KC… as good as a million miles away from legi.t

      🙂

      • chuck says:

Kero, the ongoing conversation should and does include predictions made before the season and after the Titans game. I thought they might win 6 TOPS!

It’s ok to admit if you are off of you predictions. I agree, if they somehow made the playoffs, they would be out in a flaxh, but what is interesting to talk about, is the unexpected competancy of the Chiefs, even after the injuries.

Andy really is a good coach.

        • Kerouac says:

Nothing to admit but the obvious as demonstrated: KC is again a pretender, a mediocre, will end as they always do – nowhere. The hopeful, the gullible, the babes in the woods uninitiated will remain so… Kerouac, having seen this act since ’63, is incapable such folly. Check back with me end of season for another dose of ‘told you so’.

          🙂

          • Shawnster says:

Hey Kero-whack, For a guy who claims to have seen so much football how come you are always so wrong? You seem equally inept understanding baseball. Winners win losers make excuses. It’s always “yeah they won but” with you. From your previous posts I could have sworn you were an confused octogenarian headed for the light, but all this recent whinning on your part has me thinking pre-teen. Which is it?

          • Kerouac says:

Kerouac only has to be right once – end season – he’s undefeated as such/will be fore’er, appears.

Always telling when so many refuse accept ‘the opinion’ of another/everyone’s prerogative, and especially when the other is always validated in the end.

The team ahead the 1st half, end the 7th inning or 2nd period same be where an Chiefs fandom grasps at their straws, too too many them.

While Kerouac takes note the so many who want change his mind/facilitate his cease & desist, the fact remains only one who can or will change this Lays Potato Chip of blogdom, is the man himself.

The’ try persuade Kerouac’ line forms the right.

            : )

      • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

What foot did SD shoot when Gates catches a TD off a deflection? What foot did they shoot when Jenkins stupidly steps out of bounds on a sure TD? What foot when both Hemmingway & Bowe dropped giant pass plays to either score or extend KC drives?

        Excuses are for losers….

        Shoe / Fit

        • Kerouac says:

Chiefs a Bob Lanier size 22, since 1970… cue Kingston Trio – ‘when will they ever learn, when will they ever learn’…

          🙂

  5. Jack Springer says:

Please stop talking about sports .. talk about something you actually know something about.

    ….. crickets……..crickets………………………………………

  6. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Craig, will you ever learn? Last year, you counted Mizzou out after the Georgia win when Franklin went down. (WRONG.) Then you counted them out again after the South Carolina loss. (WRONG AGAIN.) Then, after two conference games this year and sitting at 1-1, you count them out again. (WRONG). A week later, Mizzou sits 2-1 in the conference, with the supposed toughest stretch of their schedule behind them, and only a half game behind Georgia, who still has to play Auburn. Missouri can still win the East outright and play in the SEC Championship again.
All that being said, Mizzou has serious problem on the field offensively, and trouble is starting in the lockerroom. Mauk is grading out at some of the lowest levels ever seen in the Pinkel era over the past 4 games. Backup Eddie Printz has a core of avid supporters amongst his teammates, and a few of the coaches as well are advocating for him to get more playing time. As of this week, Pinkel is flat out refusing. Unless Mauk starts playing better, Mizzou could be teetering on the edge of a divided lockerroom. Should be interesting to watch.

    • harley says:

guy heard the same thing but with the loss of the best receiver in the
      nation it really hurt mauk.
if they had dgb the other teams would have to double cover him..
and leave one on one the rest of the receiversand force a linebacker
      ona fast back or receiver.
      that hurt big!!!!!!
but yes…glaze is wrong again. He’s goingdown fast. his picks which
he bamboozled the public in the last 3 years to be at 70-80% were
a pure farce and now wefined that many of those teases were bogus.
in fact we are finding that he uses fuzzy math.
hearne needs him because he’s gottwo regular writers..
one who visits shoe repair shops in lawrnece for entertainment and the
other who has no idea whats happening in the real world.
then theres calvin who was African American but now they took that
out (proably because ebola comes from Africa)…
guy,,,,, mu will be fine….the receivers need a new scheme but as long
      as they win…that’s all that counts…punt returns….pick 6’s…whatever..
mu coud win the east…and wouldn’t that be great…..
I think pinkel goes with mauk for now…but they’ve got that kid
from kc (locke) coming in and he’s a monster…..
whatever the case…mu is ona roll…went to Georgia game..thought
the season was over….but its still a blast!!!!!!!!!go tigers!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

While I like Drew Lock, he’s the second best quarterback in the KC Metro. The best quarterback is Skylar Thompson at Fort Osage. I’ve seen both play and in my humble opinion, it’s not even close. Thompson is hands down the better qb. And let me clarify, I’m not saying that Lock stinks. He’s a damn fine quarterback, one of the best in the nation. I just think Skylar Thompson is better. Oh and for the record, Mizzou is dragging their heels and haven’t offered Thompson yet.

      • paulwilsonkc says:

Thanks for being such a devoted fan, reader and dec3iple of my writing that you can’t make a comment on anyone else’s story without mentioning me in said comment, even when it doesnt fit.
Really, Harley, you being that much a fan boy, butt boy, is a little unsettling.
Take a step back from time to time, focus on the story youre reading and just give that writer your attention. So much time is spent worshiping me in your scribbles that I’m sure the others feel slighted.
(Its good to know just how much I DO own you…)

  7. mike says:

If Charles stays healthy and the Chiefs keep using a ball control style of offense, they should be able to hang with anybody. They made the mistake of trying to be more pass oriented against the Niners and paid for it. The Chiefs running backs are world class and their receiving corps is below average, so use what you have. Pass mostly off of play action, when the other team loads the box.

  8. Kerouac says:

Heh heh heh… this is better than Carlin.

    🙂

  9. Garch says:

updated DVOA now has Chiefs at 67.3% chance of making playoffs —

    (pre-season had them a 3.7%!)

now with season mean wins total of 9.6 games!

    GO CHIEFS!!

  10. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

CG’s column from the day after the loss to the Titans:

“Yes, they are now are in the lead for worst record in the NFL.

I said if they lost to Tennessee to look out. They likely will go 0-6 or 0-7. Even Oakland is better. Again nobody you can name – besides me of course – tagged them as total losers. I didn’t like doing it, but I did.

    How’s that 50 to 1 looking now?

The Chiefs will have the worst NFL record, which at the very least looks pretty possible, huh?

The under 8 1/2 bet is already over.

They have nothing. I believe Jamaal Charles is hurt, so he was used sparingly. No matter, he did nothing.

Your scribe knows about the NFL just a bit, huh?”

To answer the last question in your diatribe: Ummmm, no. Not really.

  11. Kerouac says:

    January ’70, view from the top…1970 regular season followed, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980 too (pause to catch breath.) 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 (time for cig break/smoke a lenyo if prefer). 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 (an new century/time for yet another rebuild, part 31), 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 (bye Weepy Dick), 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 . . . and the beat goes on.

    🙂

    • Lance The Intern says:

And your point? So KC hasn’t won a Superbowl since 1970….At least they’ve won one.
When’s the last time San Diego had a Superbowl win? Oh, that’s right — never. This charter member of the AFL did win an AFL championship…In 1963. How does that go, Kerouac?
“January ’63, view from the top . . . and the beat goes on.”

      • Kerouac says:

Oh dear – now Kerouac has gone and upset you… good, get that angst & Championship-bereft blood pumping.

“So KC hasn’t won a Superbowl since 1970”

        – well, if you’re not certain…

        “….At least they’ve won one.”

        – at least; so has an expansion team the born in 1996 Baltimore Ravens – twice, since 2000… so has Tampa Bay and SEAT, two more expansion teams, 2003 and 2013.

“When’s the last time San Diego had a Superbowl win?”

        – 1963, when the NFL Champion refused play the AFL Champs same in a winner take all contest pre-Superbowl Championship. Chargers also made it back ’95, relative fortnight ago compared the ancient epoch known ‘end the 1960’s…

        🙂

  12. Kerouac says:

As an aside, what a great old-time cover pic 1964 vs the Chargers… Les Milgram, an KC member in headdress, Chiefs swimming upstream yet again aft a 7-7 season year before; politically incorrect today yet so much more original the ‘follow the sheep in front of you’ tack’ prevalent/expected, 2014 (back when Chiefs were Indians, Chargers were Centaur and cover art was more than computer-generated schlock.)

  13. Kerouac says:

*Typo* 5-7-2 season afore, Hank’s only losing season in KC until he was unceremoniously fired his second, post 1974…

  14. KCarnac the Magnificient says:

The Chiefs will win another Superbowl before the Chargers win their first.

  15. CG says:

I’M WAY MORE IMPRESSED WITH REIDS WORK TURNING THE CHIEFS AROUND SO FAST THEN THE ROYALS MAKING PLAYOFFS…THE WORLD SERIES IS GREAT BUT THIS CHEIFS TEAM LOOKED SO BAD NOW A CONTENDER WOW

    • KCMonarch says:

Wait…you’re more impressed with the Chiefs at .500 in a league designed for parity than you are with the small market Royals winning an unprecedented 8 straight post-season games to propel themselves into the World Series?

Hearne, this is your sports guy?

      These questions are rhetorical.

      • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Then / than. Tomato / tamato.

      • CG says:

Not what I said. I SAID MAKING PLAYOFFS NOT WINNING 8 IN THE POST THATS GREAT. I think the Royals had a shot at the post season and the Chiefs didn’t thats all. Now they look pretty good, we’ll see. Hey I was one of those who said they’d win only a few games. Now they look like a contender, that’s all. Lets not go crazy over it.

    • Heart of a Teacher says:

You actually misspelled “Chiefs.” In general the rule is I before E except after C.

    • the dude says:

      Craig, get off the blow.

    bumgardner is a bum….

    • CG says:

Harley don’t do blow, maybe you do based on reading your comments. I judge these teams as they move forward. The Chiefs, who I have been down on clearly, have looked better each week. There is no bandwagon. It’s a ‘what did you do now’ game. Hey they could lose six in a row then this would be a ‘well they looked good for a minute.’ It’s week to week. I think Andy has done a ton with not much to work with a few weeks ago. Simple as that.

  17. CG says:

Let me make something clear. For decades these two organizations have been poor, at best. Now the Royals have had a solid year and a great post. After 30 years of crap. Not easy to jump on a WOW THEY ARE GREAT chant. We are still waiting on that great year from the Chiefs since 69/70. So if you want to all jump down my throat fine, but look back over the years of crap and then say yeah, tough years to swallow. Right.

By the way over the last few years of talking Royals and mainly Chiefs, I have been pretty on the money. Again I don’t see anyone putting up predictions here other than me. I did not predict much with the Royals the last few years, they were terrible as always til last year and then they were decent. This year they were a bit better but got into the wild card and we know the rest. So if you want to take out years of frustration on me, fine. But I’m not the enemy.

    • harley says:

glaze….please stop commenting on your own stories.
      you’re wrong again and again.
