It is kind of watered down now. It has been a long time since a 6 seed has beaten a #1 seed, why add more?

The answer is more games, more ads, more money, so it is nevitable that they will add more, add to that a year where there was no room for UNC ( which really pisses the east coasters off ).

This is a tourny to find the champion, and adding dog teams to it will change the outcome, but it will make them more money, NONE of which goes to the actual people doing most the labor.

While sure, more kids would enjoy it”

Lets ask LEHIGH how much they enjoyed it was after the Kansas game.

Is it fun to be a pawn sent into the lions den only to be ripped apart for the amusement of a blood thirsty crowd aka ad selling TV execs?

Just because me and Magic, Michael, Isiah, and about 100 other Basketball players would regularly touch each other…that doesn’t mean i couldn’t be objective. I would often object when someone pressed to hard into my buttocks. Wondering why i am no longer employed and respected as a journalist????

Is this true or are you kidding?

GH: Craig, you gotta be more specific. About what?

The question to be answered re: the 96 team field is, will the “16 can’t beat a 1” string still stand.

Holly Rowe…can you equate a loving kiss on the face to playing a round of golf? Has Greg seen Jack doing more to Norm and Watson?

Expand the tournament when a 16 beats a 1 in the first round.

It is not about young men getting a chance to experience the thrill of the tournament or about bubble teams being shut out when deserving. It is about the do-re-mi. Nothing else matters.

Back when the NCAA had 8 teams in the tournament it was playing second-fiddle to the NIT. The winner of the NIT was the real national champion in those days. They played the NIT and then the NCAA.

I dont know how it might be set up, but it may be a question of can #24 seed beat a #1 seed? unless they have 8 brackets of 12 or maybe 12 brackets of 8 or maybe …… etc etc….. sound watered down yet?

    Will the results change?
The ad time available will increase, but the ad prices may come down, so net/net the same team that should win, will win.

Ok, this may be a dumb girl question, but since teams play in sets of 2, why are there 65 and not 64?? Who is the odd man out?

I just check into greg’s blogs because that’s where all you boys are.

    ___

GH: There was a “play-in” game last night between two teams to determine the 64th team. That’s how they get 65 teams. They count both teams in the play-in game as part of the total tourney field. Tracy, fill out a bracket at,
    http://y.ahoo.it/Kc9yGrHB
    — you’ll probably win it.

Tracy, this is from the marketing genius of NCAA.

There are no stupid questions, there are stupid people who are afraid of questions, and question askers.

I can not tell you why there are 65, but I can tell that last night 2 teams played in the “1st round” “playoff”.

They select 2 teams who play, with the winner getting the last spot in the tourny.

If you look at the brackets you will see this winner plays Duke.

Since 2001, the NCAA men’s basketball tournament has had an odd number of teams, 65. Here’s why: For years, the tournament included 30 conference champions and 34 invitees. A new conference, the Mountain West, was formed in 1999, and received an automatic bid. Rather than reduce the number of invitees – most of which come from the big and powerful conferences – the NCAA added an “opening round” game between the two weakest conference champs for a spot for the sacred 64. The winner gets an extra cut of tournament revenue – and a date with a No. 1 seed in the next round.

Hey, I’m a Stranglers fan and understand why you put up the single sleeve to ’96 Tears,’ but it being St. Patrick’s Day couldn’t you have used ‘It’s Going to Happen!’ by the Undertones?

    Cuz it is.

I suppose an expanded field is inevitable. But 64(-and-a-half) teams seems to work.

Nothin’ to see on the first Thursdays & Fridays, usually. And CBS has jumping between games down to an art.

Another weekend of the tournament? To what end? You gonna pick the Little Sisters of the Poor against the Illinois School for the Blind that weekend?

Already it’s kinda pathetic fans of the NIT champions get to yell “We’re Number 66! We’re Number 66!”

I’m still not sure I understand how Duke gets matched with the play-in team instead of matching them with the overall #1 seed.

Speaking of the NIT, I am guessing they are not happy with this idea. They already get the lowest quality teams, and now they will get even lower quality teams.

It’ll NEVER happen. Not even the books in Vegas wanna see this expansion to 96. The NCAA has turned into a big huge manvagina trying to placate all the bumbaclots, (look it up if you don’t know the word), from the small weenie schools.

I was told that the NIT was run by the NCAA, and the NIT would go away if the NCAA tourney was expanded to 96.

    WOW BUZZERSHOT MEMPHIS !! WOW!~!!

    Here is a tourny tip.

    I am sure most of you brains already know this, but for the people who may not;

Your TV probably can receive several channel 5 signals. Only one is in high def, but the other 3(?) CH5s are transmitting something. At tourny time, at the end of game, they sometimes show one game on one ch 5 and another game on the other ch 5.

This helps if the main ch5 switches off of a game you want to see, or have it in a bracket etc etc.

I am not expert, but if you have rabbit ears ( or a wire hanger ) and you switch the input signal to AIR, (you might have to RE scan)(re-program channels)and then viola …you might be able to see the game you want.

I have DirecTV, but I watched all of those late season CH 5 games using the OVER THE AIR signal becasue there is a 5 second delay for DTV.

Just an FYI in case someone does not know.

GH said, “GH: Jack Harry is the guy who I first saw criticize Rowe for her hug of Collins. My question is how does Jack Harry playing countless rounds of golf with Norm Stewart and other sports figures he covers differ from Rowe

96 Teams does work and here is why. Not only is it good for $$$$$$ for the NCAA..and CBS .. it is also good for scholar athletes. Harvard had 22 wins and they are not going to the tournament. Wichita State had 25 wins. As long as the expansion does not include teams with losing records in their conferences, I think it will be good to let good teams from the non power conferences in. The NCAA is smart… This move will eventually spread the talent around and provide more parity. More 20-24 win teams need to be in the tourney.
So KK … call of your “Petition of The Month.”

Harry’s criticism of Rowe for her embarrassing display of unprofessionalism was on target. You can criticize him for calling the kettle black, but defending Rowe makes you look silly.

added to my TV tip above,
if you have DirecTV you may find extra coverage on ch613. Other providers probably have extra coverage~somewhere~too.

After watching another underdog do its thing (Washington) I am reminded why I never get too cocky about who wins this thing.

IF ANY team, including my beloved MIGHTY KANSAS JAYHAWKS MENS BASKETBALL team, dreams that they can get though based on seeding and reputation alone, they are in for a bloody nose.

Limiting the dance to ONLY 65 teams assures that most of the teams can (and might) kick your ass, if you dont kick theirs first.

But, it is a 40 miute game, a chess match and having 15 starters helps : )

    I think KU understands.
That is why KU will win.
We have the talent and the coach and the fans and the Phog.

They should reduce the number to 32. That would keep the riff raff poser schools out, like texas.

    The secret to winning this
    tourny is make free throws.

MAKE THEM AND YOU WIN, like
Danny Manning did in 1988. Miss your free throws and you lose, you give it away, like Memphis did in 2008 and like texas did tonight.

It sure is fun to play brackets, becasue without them I dont care that texas fks themselves, but texas sure did fk themselves. it was [painful to watch.

Make the free throws, add in some 3 point longballs, block more, steal more and you win. It is really pretty simple.
fkn texas,, what a bunch of fgs.
