Glazer: The Beginning of the End for Hosmer, Royals?

Things are not looking good for this year’s Royals

There’s just no offense.

In fact, even their flagship sports station 610 Sports is down on the club’s efforts. Long games – like the 1-0 loss, a four hour game – are BORING.

“The Royals hard to watch right now.”

Yes, their starting pitching has been outstanding, but with no offense how long will that continue?

The big hurt is Eric Hosmer – the face of the team – doing next to nothing thus far.

He’s batting just .197, with one home run and he’s not getting it done with men on base. He’s nearly leading the league in hitting into double plays.

Not good.

Alex Gordon continues to prove that his big contract and dumping Ben Zobrist to keep him, was a mistake.

Gordon has a large sample size of no offense. In 500 at bats he’s hitting just over .200 over the last two seasons.

Nobody is hitting well except Lorenzo Cain, however he’s not hitting with any power either and is the walk king right now.

Last year Paulo Orlando showed promise, this season he is batting just .149.

The good news is the season’s  still young.

However with only 10% of the games having been played, KC is 7-9 in last place. That’s only two games back of 1st place in a division that is all around .500.

Unfortunately, nobody is hot.

Yes, a short winning streak will calm the fans down for sure. Management is bringing up some minor league talent to try and jump start the offense. However the power plan has failed to this point.

Moose and Sal Perez were tagging homers but even that’s stopped lately.

Brandon Moss, the new power monster, has only two home runs and is hitting just .128. Yikes.

Hosmer is chasing a huge contract for next season.

There was talk of a $150 million plus contract for him on a 7-10 year contract somewhere.

But if Eric hits under .250 with just 15 or so home runs and under 75 RBI’s, that deal will be far, far less. He knows that and is pressing.

The team was on a mission in 2014/15.

But now as these players age its more about money and where they want to play in the future.

If KC is not a contender players will even more feel like moving on down the road.

The $64 million question: How will fans react if the Royals continue to lose?

Will the large crowds drop off by June? Winning is everything.

This team still has some outstanding players; Danny Duffy is killing it as is Jason Vargas. Will that continue without run support?

I’m afraid the Royals just don’t have enough bats to be much over .500 this year.

The front office will likely make some tough trades later this season if things don’t improve over the next month or so.

If Hosmer isn’t hitting his trade value will fall and hard and we may see some pitchers being traded in hopes of finding some offense.

This team gave us two great seasons and two World Series appearances.

That was fantastic.

However, it won’t be long before it becomes, what have you done for us lately?

  1. Kerouac says:

“Things are not looking good for this year’s Royals…”

    – it’s always darkest before the dawn… unless it’s a total eclipse of the sun (as another royals season be another fraudulent reason get duped)

    “There’s just no offense.”

    – au contraire: be offensive at every turn – speaking of football:

“The good news is the season’s still young.”

    – the bad: swiss chiefs arrive too soon, ‘Lucy’ their foolish football dreams same…

    “Unfortunately, nobody is hot.”

    – not even the filly top picture, who, like the Royals, is old news, i.e., vintage ‘Chicago’:

‘Old days – days that I remember, old days – good times I remember, fun days, filled with ship of pleasure… take me back, to the world gone away – our good mem-or-ies seem like yesterday… old days.

    The comedy 🙂

    and

    the tragedy 🙁

    be… fraudroyals baseball: R.I.P. 1980, 1985, 2015 and 2017 ad nauseam/ad infinitum

    • CG says:

Well K though its been 25 years of crap and two great seasons hey they have 4 world series total to the Chiefs 2 Super Bowls…look both franchises are just ok, not great….you need a George Brett or a Len Dawson..we’ve had but two.

      • Kerouac says:

Just having some fun at the expense of our KC ‘have nots’, CG… entertainment & disappointment at its finest. As to the heart & soul that were Dawson/Brett missing from today’s editions each franchise compared each team’s ‘semi’-glorious past, agreed – it coulda’ been worse, however – in fact, once was.

Kerouac, always interested in ensuring the prevail truth & fact over hyperbole and overhype, was forced to intercede years ago in order inform the Chiefs ‘PR’ department about the egregious misnomer their own media guide: they described Lenny as “the heart and SOLE” of the Chiefs that particular seasons’s edition; that it went/remained uncorrected, well… a Kansas City thing.

        🙂

  2. a world series win can last 3 years in baseball (according to experts who know what they’re talking about).
As for me, I predicted this early last season that the win back to back baseball
world series in todays free agent/high dollar/move from team to team action it makes it almost impossible.
Every team has a shot at one or two championships just like the royals did.
But glazer don’t worry about hosmer. There will always be food on the kids table.
His agent personally told me that he’ll still get close to 90-100 million dollar contract but it might just be stretched out additional years.
So again, with your lack of baseball knowledge, your regurgitation of what we read and hear in about 100 different blogs/stories/videos/live reports your story here is just another ho hum garbage.
The good news I heard concerning you is that the dave and busters at the legend
is doing better than the dave and busters at 135th street. But it’s just a matter
of time before the legends collapses when the anchors head south for bigger tax
breaks in joco and leaves the aea with asmall soccer stadium, a losing casino, and a few small ma and pop stores/venues to fend for themselves.
Question: you pump up your talent on tonys blog like you’re running the greatest
commedians ever. Most appear to be third rate comicsvwho appeared on some tv show noone ever heard of. Now it’s mostly male strippers (which you love) and midget wrestlers. What gives. At least give us JJ walker for one final “dynomite”.

    • CG says:

Harley we have only had midgets once at OP two years ago…Legends has already had Farley, Colin Kane, Jordon Rock, and many stars on ‘new’ tv shows and specials…long list…I forgot how great you are at predicting wins and losses like last years Super Bowl, uh you had the Falcons and I had Pats and nearly the final score and oh yeah about the presidential race? Who did you have, oh yeah Hilary…good call.

  3. E.H. says:

I just think the Royals bats will heat up along with the weather. These guys are just too good to stay like this. The one guy that needs to be scratched off the lineup card is Mondesi, he’ll eventually get there but not now. Ok, I just read that Mondesi was sent down, that was a no brainer.

I can see KC treading along at .500 for the next couple of years unless Glass/Moore make a couple of great(not likely) moves. Under further review I’d keep Cain/Moose and let Hosmer go someplace else. It sucks but now I’ve come to realize he can be replaced with a better 1st baseman.

  4. CG says:

Another no offense performance by the Royals in Texas where they were swept. 2-1 in final game. No hitting as usual. Gordon and Hosmer had no hits at all.

    • E.H. says:

That wasn’t the final game CG, the final game of the three game series is today.

      • CG says:

Yes E.H. they played 4 and lost them all, as of yesterday with game 4 loss and 10 in a row to Texas…once again not much offense. Might be a long summer.

  5. Paul says:

The Royals won’t be able to keep Hosmer or Moose regardless of how their seasons go. It’s the economics. They could re-sign Cain and/or Escobar, but won’t. Signing Cain would mean contract responsibility for two 30+ outfielders who have been injury-prone at points in their careers.

I’m starting to believe that it’s bad fiscal policy for a non major-market team to sign long-term contracts with any player unless they’re far superior to their peers, like Trout, Kershaw, and Harper or bring a unique skill to the table, like out-of-this-world defensive abilities at a skill position like catcher or short. Let ’em walk and rebuild.

That said, it’s impossible to deny what Moose, Cain, and Hosmer have meant to the Royals. They’ve grown up here, brought KC a winner, and been good representatives of the game. Best to them.

  6. CG says:

There is little doubt the Royals will move to rebuild mode mid season…likely as we have heard, Cain,Hosmer, maybe Moose and more will be gone next year…Hosmer likely wants to move on and of course more money, Cain his age, Moose bigger money but he might stay here if they pay him…Sal will likely be the ‘the star’ during this rebuild period that might last years as it did before…you need stars that can hit and more than Danny Duffy to be a post season team…

  7. The Word says:

I miss Kacie McDonnell on my TV in the mornings. It stinks when we have less eye candy on the news.

  8. CG says:

Hard to believe it could get ‘worse’ the Royals got jacked and hard…by the White Sox 12-1 yesterday. Their best starter, Jason Vargas, stats wise, went down, relief pitching was horrid and the Royals had but 2 hits…one run. Hosmer and Gordon are both still hitting under .200 as is most of the team. Only Lorenzo Cain is hitting over .300 and has few meaningful hits, 4 RBI’s and no homers…yikes….its ugly.

  9. CG says:

Wow Royals go crazy with bats, 5 runs, a homer from Moose, Eric and Alex each got a hit…uh we lost, 10-5…now a 6 game losing streak and Royals in last place by 3.5 games from the next spot up…not good…nobody on the team is hitting over .300…now…

  10. CG says:

Eric Hosmer now batting over .200, nobody even close to .300 anymore…Royals deep in last place second worst record in baseball 7-14 and if this keeps up, again no offense they lost today 5-2 swept by Sox and Rangers back to back…Royals could well be out of contention by late May or sooner…no energy at all..

  11. CG says:

Now Royals home for ten games, badly need to win 7 or more here. If they don’t climb out of this no runs, no wins run….and fall further behind on this homestand, it may well be a lost season early.

  12. CG says:

Royals start homestand with Twins and lose number 8 in a row…. the fat lady is warming up.

  13. CG says:

Another loss number 9 in a row.

  14. CG says:

Royals stop the bleeding with a 6-1 win, 2 homers and a well pitched game…maybe they will start winning some games….in a deep hole they need to get hot now if they want to contend, if not season over in a few weeks…
