Glazer: Chiefs Get a Nice Win, Starting to Look Promising

screen-shot-2016-10-24-at-10-19-01-amChiefs coach Andy Reid’s 300th game…

He’s a likely future hall of fame coach and got a big win over the hot New Orleans Saints. The Arrowhead crowd helped with so much noise it caused 10 penalties by the Saints. Rarely heard from safety Daniel Sorensen had a touchdown run after he intercepted Drew Brees and then later a sack.

Turns out this was a first in Chiefs history, a TD INT return and sack in the same game.

Nice.

Sorensen’s interception return and Marcus Peters fumble recovery were the big difference in this game. The Chiefs had no turnovers. Most importance is the emergence of Tyreek Hill as a major force and weapon for QB Alex Smith and the Chiefs. He can return the kicks, play running back and as we saw yesterday make the big play downfield with his speed.

Hill caught a deep pass from Smith for a touchdown that helped seal the deal. His speed is maybe best in the NFL today. Now teams will have to game plan for the speed and danger of Hill getting loose. He made a one handed grab of the ball. He may be the weapon the Chiefs have lacked for years. A game breaking receiver who can catch and run.

Smith was solid with just over 200 yards in the air, two TD throws and 17 for 24 passing. Spencer Ware continues to be the Chiefs workhorse and had a nice long TD run off a short throw from Smith.

The Saints offense was dangerous as always but the Chiefs stopped them with the two big turnovers. Brees still threw for over 300 yards as usual. It was a big win and kept KC in the mix for the division title, post season and perhaps a top spot in the playoffs.

059c674ee489e841bc47a38fb861ab89-originalIts a long way’s off, but at least we have what appears to be a good team that is only getting better as we head towards mid season.

With Justin Houston coming back, Tyreek Hill’s emergence as a weapon, the solid play of Travis Kelce, Jeremy Maclin and Chris Conley the Chiefs seem to be headed in the right direction.

The top teams today clearly are the New England Patriots who won a not so easy game with the Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys. The Vikes got upended by the Eagles and are no longer undefeated.

After those two its a large group of contenders including the KC Chiefs.

CG, did you hear the stat they threw out during yesterday’s game regarding Alex Smith? Only two QB’s in the NFL have more wins in the last 4 years than Alex Smith. Brady and Wilson. Doesn’t mean a whole lot since it hasn’t gotten them past the first round of the playoffs, but still pretty cool.

    Good read, Glaze!

Too bad you need a helicopter to get in and out of the stadium lot. Parking is a mess.

  3. Kerouac says:

“Glazer: Chiefs Get a Nice Win, Starting to Look Promising”

    – again? Like Rocky & Bullwinkle [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc4IFIXcDcs ] affirm – “that trick never works.”

Bullwinkle – ‘This time for sure ~ PRESTO! ~ [ enter hat, exit from it… Rocky ] “Well, I’m gettin’ close.” Like the swiss same… every season… since… 1970.

“Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s 300th game… he’s a likely future hall of fame coach.”

    – based on what, CG? That he came, tried and failed? He has as much chance getting into the HOF as the swiss RB Charles does: slim & none. Reid is a notch above Marty Schottenheimer and miles behind George Allen – none of whom won a Championship or are in Canton or ever will be, my opine. Even Allen’s .712 regular season winning % (compared Reid’s .595) wasn’t good enough to get George into the Hall of Fame.

Allen’s .222 post season mark and Reid’s .500 same both pale comparison Stram’s .625 – and lone Championship – post season and .574 regular. Take away that single victory January 11, 1970, Hank doesn’t get in either. As it happened, Stram did not get in until he was 80, just before he died. We’ll leave the lights on for you, Andy. Reid is a silver medalist in a Gold Medal NFL world. Not even Canton-worthy as Marv Levy and Bud Grant who also don’t belong but managed to sneak in despite their losing 8 Superbowls between them in as many attempts, compared Reid’s single ofer 1.

Back to the present day swiss…

“Turns out this was a first in Chiefs history, a TD INT return and sack in the same game.”

    – actually no, it wasn’t… alas, that the NFL did not start officially tracking/crediting QB sacks officially until 1982 makes the statement asterisk worthy if errantly true. Bobby Bell did it – more than once in fact – AFL days, the last time in the opening game of the 1967 season vs the Oilers, a game Kerouac was present for in Houston.

“the emergence of Hill as a major force and weapon”

-really? Tyweak is averaging all of 8.9 yards per catch as a receiver… for reference, former Chiefs RB Todd McNair averaged 12.1 yards per catch his KC career… a RB. He was only ever able be a reserve/role player. RB Hill averages 3.4 per rush, while McNair averaged 5.5 comparison. RB Kimble Anders averaged 4.6 and a host others also managed far exceed the great overhype that be Tyweak Hill.

That he ranks no higher 18th in kickoff return average NFL (the best he can claim is bridesmaid/second best punt returns) suggests (more so stats affirm) that he’s NOT an major force or weapon outside desperate pleas to the contrary swiss chiefs fandom. Sorry to break it to you CG, but the guy is a media creation – underwhelming to date compared all the oohs and aahs a thirsty media fantasizes was his impact.

“With Justin Houston coming back, Tyreek Hill’s emergence as a weapon, the solid play of Travis Kelce, Jeremy Maclin and Chris Conley the Chiefs seem to be headed in the right direction.”

    – don’t they always seem to be… headed in that right direction… since… 1970.

    This week’s exercise in futility:

    the swiss 3/10

    Current AFC West Power Rankings:

    1 DEN
    2 OAK
    3 SD
    4 swiss

Now go out and make it a great day Kansas City!

Typo: should have read Allen was eventually inducted in 2002, 12 years after he died.

(PS) This post references one that is currently not published/awaiting moderation due a link being included in it. Trust me, it’s worth the wait (as all Kerouac’s Football Sermons from the Mount. )

    Hey Jack Kerouac…..
Serious question — why don’y you ever take credit when your Chiefs predictions are wrong?

Just wondering….And thinking of your mother.

    • Kerouac says:

      “Hey”

      – straw…

      ” Jack”

      – o’-lantern

      “Kerouac”

      – yes, what is it now?

      “Serious question”

      – Q: How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck if a Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood?

Give up? OK. An woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood… duh.

Too hard? Here’s a couple others: why can’t you tickle yourself? And why does Hawaii Have Interstate Highways?

Finally, a serious Chiefs history trivia question: who was the oldest defensive back to ever appear in a game for the Kansas City Chiefs in an regular season game their franchise history? (name & year he did so.) Kerouac will leave the lights on for you.

      ” — ”

      – ∯

      “why don’y you”

      – same reason you don’y…

“ever take credit when your Chiefs predictions are wrong?”

      – haven’t been wrong in 47 years, since 1970…

      “Just wondering….

      – as you wander…

      “And thinking of your mother.”

      – because yours never thought of you…

      • Frank says:

        – Q: How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck if a Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood?

        – A in the form of a Q: If the tongue twisters roll off your tongue so smoothly, why is everything else so hard to read?

        • Kerouac says:

Though such an admission was likely not best in terms thy repute, your self-indictment was noble Frank, and, result, moves Crackerjack Kerouac offer further clues.

While ‘Woodchuck’ was not the correct answer sought in answer the query ‘who was the oldest DB to ever appear in an game for the Chiefs’, Frankly, said was a very good guess yours, nonetheless.

Appears locals here are stumped… so some hints (really now, Kerouac is making it far too easy figure out for any true Chiefs historian.)

He was not Johnny Robinson or Emmitt Thomas (nor was he Methusaleh or Tom Woodeshick, latter an RB who played no DB at all (nor, did he ‘not’ do so for the Chiefs, rendering him a superfluous choice, of course.)

Have the correct answer on this KCC forum by Friday morning, less Kerouac become even more insufferable, narratively speaking.

          heh heh heh heh heh

          🙂

    • Shawnster says:

Forget it Lance, he’s to old & irrelevant to catch the reference. I like what you did there.

  6. CG says:

K is as usual a bit over the top but a great read and good information…I am not the only one who thinks Reid goes to the hall, he has a Super Bowl and Marty does not…he lost but had one and lots of playoffs….well liked too…so he’s a good bet and has more post seasons with KC coming…hey I’m not a big Andy fan, just sayin…

  7. Kerouac says:

Well CG, if Reid gets in, then the standards will have been lowered to an even more ridiculous degree than they already have been his case, and others.

John Rauch also had a Superbowl (II) appearance, vs the greatest team pro football team(s) history, the 1960’s Green Bay Packers, 1967 version. Rauch, owner an .805 regular season winning % with OAK his three years, lost, just as Reid did with PHIL.

Rauch is dead now… Kerouac doesn’t believe that John will ever get in any more than Andy will, but, George Allen eventually did (after his expiration date), so who knows.

Q: A coach who was in a Superbowl, won that Superbowl & had a lifetime .802 winning % regular season and .620 post season same, is ‘not’ in the Hall of Fame. Who is he?

    A: Don McCafferty… he’s dead too.

    🙁

  8. Harry Balczak says:

Now that Joey Bosa has been signed the Chargers are a real threat

    • Kerouac says:

Joey Bosa-nova has already danced his way to 4 sacks in just 3 games… looking less like a big bust and more like a Radio City Rockette kicking it (which he’ll do to another the great overhypes swiss, OT Schwartz, when next the deux meet.)

      Go Broncos!

      🙂

    • CG says:

      Agreed..He is awesome.
