Glazer: Chiefs March to Playoffs Intensifies

7696b3a5251d24b2dd2adaa6b852b99bGo ahead, blame the rain and sloppy field  but the reality is the Chiefs’ offense went backwards…

Yes, the Chiefs won 10-3 over the lowly San Diego Chargers. And yes, Dee Ford had a great game with three sacks and defending against the final throw into the end zone by Chargers QB Phillip Rivers. However, for KC to really be a threat to go deep in the playoffs – or even get there – QB Alex Smith has to play better – as does the Kansas City offense.

Once again the Chiefs were playing not to lose.

That’s understandable in the bad weather, but this team simply must have a more potent offense to go up against the likes of New England or even the Steelers.

And right now they don’t.

It was a good day for KC in some ways.

The Bengals, another team we likely couldn’t beat on the road, lost their quarterback for the season. The Denver Broncos got beat by Oakland at home. Denver’s offense has been just OK without Peyton Manning. And like KC, there were no touchdown in the second half of the game.

It sets this up.

UnknownDenver has a two game lead over the Chiefs for the division title.

There are three games left and the Broncos have to play the Bengals and the Steelers. The Chiefs have Baltimore, Cleveland and the Raiders. If the Chiefs win out and Denver loses two, the Chiefs win the division due to tie breakers and our better division record.

Hey, it could happen.

As we saw yesterday there are no easy wins in the NFL. Injuries can change things quickly. Tom Brady got back Gronk and the Pats rolled over Houston to reclaim the AFC’s best record and home field advantage.

The Panthers and Cam Newton look to be THE team.

They’re undefeated and likely will end the regular season 16–0.

Right now the top ten teams appear to be, PANTHERS, NEW ENGLAND, PHOENIX, STEELERS, GREEN BAY…and then in no clear order…CHIEFS, BENGALS, DENVER, VIKINGS AND JETS.

So yes KC is top 10. But at the lower end of it right now.

Kansas City has come along way since starting 1-5 so give them tons of credit.

However, it’s still uphill climb to make a run at the big prize.

Yes, a win is a win. But, that Chargers team is horrible. HORRIBLE. Philip “cry me a” Rivers and that cast of has-beens and never-will-be’s have fallen off a cliff. 44 rushing yards with a 2.4 ypc average? Wow. Laughable. First and goal at the 1 yard line with 5 seconds left in the game. Throw in a false start and a delay of game COMING OUT OF A TIME OUT and you pretty much sum up the Bolts season. Bad.

Chiefs might make the playoffs and we’ll get to see one extra game. It’s been fun to watch the last 7 weeks, sure. But, I’m a realist. Good, not great. They will need EVERYONE (sans Charles) healthy at the end of the regular season to even have a shot at a playoff road victory.

    Go Chiefs!

    • CG says:

I agree, we all want more and better but they are an improved kinda good team, but not great. Nobody on the team is a ‘great’ player. Lots of goods. The Royals made it work but man they had a ‘great’ bullpen and ‘great’ defense and a ‘great’ hitting lineup. That’s not here with the Chiefs in their own way. Nothing yet great about them. Good. So yeah, we hope for more but a playoff win might be the best we could expect. I can’t see them beating Pats or Steelers now.

  2. Kerouac says:

A dropped td pass SD… a dropped td interception return SD… poor officiating/copious calls that went against SD (including swiss qb alice ‘pretty in pink’ smith looking for an flag on every run his, openly weeping whenever a SD player breathed on him – all the makings of a Champion… not there.

    • CG says:

K you are always on it…again give them some credit.

      • Kerouac says:

No credit due, CG – none; luck does not = merit – never has, never will.

The swiss are frauds same as every team N(ot your) F(ather’s) L(eague) circa 2015, as every NFL/AFL/MLB etc. league same since 1969, when expanded post seasons sports exploded… and mediocrity with it.

Kerouac reiterates, Championships, wins & stats are ‘not’ equal whence analyzed – ‘the best of the worst’ is the highest accolade an ultimate survivor this watered-down morass today’s excuse pro football. A connoisseur the sport as well others since 1950’s & having seen the best yesteryear & today, give me yesterday – 24/7/365.

The swiss were extremely LUCKY yesterday – same as royals ‘World Series’. Neither sd or kc deserved to win, ditto royals & mets same… pathetic teams x4. swiss lost that game 17-10 at minimum, sd doesn’t shoot themselves in the foot… a horribly injury-ravaged team the chargers the fact, yet still the better team on the field and win it sans unforced errors/questionable officiating. Ditto WS… Mets gave games away, not due to any superiority of the equally inept but luckier royals… such is the state of pro sports century 21.

This is the crux today’s professional $ports$ham – beyond the obvious, that money rules, over-expansion teams, players and post season (no team left behind, second, third, fourth and fifth chances wild card teams), protecrting their investments (can’t touch the QB’$, mix well & viola! – legitimacy is no more, nod genuflection in the direction Benjamin.

Breaks should never determine the outcome of a game as it did WS and does far too often a parity-laden NFL weekly… that it does is proof-positive that everything a Kerouac states is true.

Only those “all that matters is we won” dupes who be shallow as they are vacuous accept such outcomes and call it success. Their world, equates merit; actuality, all it does is highlight the joke be modern sports… genuine as a $3 bill. Kerouac does not / will not ever accept or embrace such fraud… yesterday and its genuine article prevails, evermore.

        • Stomper says:

If you believe what you just wrote, then why do you credit the S.F. Giants of recent years as the defending World Series Champions? In your world it seems like maybe that title belongs to the 1961 Yankees, In your world, Eisenhower would still be the President. Breaks have always been a part of sports and have always been a part of life. Deal with it. Are you saying the sports teams you seem to worship from decades ago never had breaks go their way? Living in the past must be very depressing when everyone else around you lives in the present.

To steal a quote uttered by Frasier on Cheers, “what color is the sky in your world?”

          • Kerouac says:

In a variously compromised sports world full of frauds, makes the same sense as that system it emanates from.

The modern game, stats and rating methods just as fraudulent: example, NFL’s QB rating system that lists the swiss QB smith higher-rated career than Dawson, Starr, Unitas and Jurgensen (that makes my sides ache.) Latter 4 QB’s rate among the best ever. smith? Where’s the vomit bag.

Anyone of age fortunate enough to have watched the referenced vintage guys play knows just how patently ridiculous it is to compare smith and his ilk modern day NFL QB’s to them… they cannot carry the shoes their football forefathers despite concessions aplenty to offense via rules changes and other ‘help’ (refer to several Kerouac’s past comments for affirmation stats/ records, height, weight, speed or strength, etc.)

“In your world it seems like maybe that title belongs to the 1961 Yankees”

            – the ’61 Yankees would obliterate the royals & the other teams today, but MLB’s last true legit Champion was the 1968 Detroit Tigers, and the last true NFL Champions 1968 NY Jets… after that, expanded post-season made said entirety an monied-fia$co has never abated, now worse.

“In your world, Eisenhower would still be the President. Breaks have always been a part of sports and have always been a part of life. Deal with it.”

            – you should strongly consider taking your own advise… you are frothing at the keyboard trying to convince Kerouac… you are incapable, and far better men than you have tried.

“Living in the past must be very depressing when everyone else around you lives in the present.”

            – living in the past is WONDERFUL… and, by all appearances, comments and inference, it is YOU who have a problem with said. To wit, why does it trouble you so what Kerouac believes? I don’t care what you/others believe/think, never will.

            🙂

          • Kerouac says:

A part of my post was omitted; here it is:

Pre-1969, there was a one-division setup in each league NL & AL, World Series a contest between best record-teams each league NL and AL – best two played for an Championship, none this ‘extra teams, extra games, extra chances’, ad nauseam.

Circa 2015, the cardinals had MLB’s best record with 100 wins NL… royals were AL’s best same albeit with less wins. 1968 as before, those were the two WS contestants past season, following a regular season wherein stl won 4 of the 6 games played head-tohead vs kc (inter-league play as the DH etc. are other bastardizations the game, but for another discussion.)

This is similar to the 1969 Oakland Raiders & KC Chiefs fiasco – Raiders were the best team in pro football that year (as KC’s Stram concurred), but due the ‘new’ money-making system, a one-year only (which became standard after) wild card & expanded post season began, as Kerouac’s since childhood faves the Chiefs ‘backed in’ to the post season, a post season now become compromised, and managed by way a blown call out of bounds pass to O. Taylor & an injury to QB Lamonica to outlast Oakland. Even a then younger Chiefs fan, I knew this was not right, overtly winking at the game’s (former) integrity, and much as Kerouac loved them, my Chiefs were FRAUDS and what transpired that game and after would be forever tinged with the scarlet letter of aster*sk.

Beyond MLB over-expansion compromising the legitimacy their sport via watered down talent – they as the NFL call it ‘parity’, which is another word for mediocrity – the real crime is that said was not done for fans (who are too dense realize said, a majority), rather, was done for benefit of the ‘owners’ and secondarily the players. Today, the $cale injustice has tilted the other direction, toward the players, and the two factions are still at it, today’s battlefield whether to add another layer regular season game$ (they now want 18 instead 16, more than the original 14 AFL or 12 NFL earlier 1960’s.), And then more post season games of course, and more teams playing them, and more revenue$; yup, everything just keeps on coming up roses.

So they ‘cheapened’ tha game and product in the proce$$, giving losers second chances, making it possible also-rans get to an over-expanded post season. That even a squirrel can find himself an acorn now & then not in dispute… that the price of dumbing down is an debt can never be repaid, resulting a game will never be made whole again, a tragedy.

Upshot: this modern-day ‘participation’ tack, no team left behind, is going to give way to another even more egregious money-grab. Kerouac has said & believes the day is drawing nigh EVERY team NFL/MLB will be included in post season sooner than later – the end ju$tifie$ the means – ‘more’ money in order keep feeding this ‘bea$t’ they’ve created.

If it wasn’t so sad 🙁 it would be comical 🙂

  3. Furioso says:

So, the Chiefs go on a SEVEN game winning streak, DESTROY their almighty nemesis’s Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, they VANQUISH their other division opponents and there’s still some complanin’?

    • CG says:

Til they win post season they will looked at hard..doubters…good reason…poor franchise for 3 decades…so thats why.

      • Furioso says:

I know but us true fans are just that..fanatics. We’re fanatics about the Chiefs and we stick with them through thick and thin. We know the fix is in, that nobody really wants to come to KC and that the owner really just wants to make money..but we’re lucky to have this team so we just deal with it.

        Andy Reid for President!

  4. Kerouac says:

So kids, not moderating Harley ruined the social commentary on this blog, and not moderating me has chased the rest off of the remaining sports content. Let KCC be a lesson on how not to admin a blog.

    • Kerouac says:

Imposter Kerouac, i.e., # 2 (double entendre)… don’t you just hate it when other posters get to share their takes & give their opinions that differ from yours – and there’s not a d***n thing you can do about it? The real Kerouac knows you do.

      🙂

  5. CG says:

K the Royals are world champs, no argument. They won it in 5 games, so it wasn’t luck. Last year they were in it til game 7. They are a very good pro baseball team, just no argument. Chiefs are trying and yes they have been not so great for years, true. But K to say the Royals are lucky or that the Chiefs have not fought back and can’t beat anyone is kinda silly. I like you and you are sharp as hell, but its just something to let go of right now. I’d love to read your comments on sports on other issues. We all agree those of us that are not just fans, the Chiefs have been a mediocre team for years. However the Royals were outstanding. Lets move on. K you can’t give stats that take away their world championship. You just can’t.

    • Stomper says:

Following his reasoning, I think we would find the pre-1969 version of K far easier to take than the version he chooses to share with us. The bar is pretty low unfortunately.

    • Kerouac says:

K the Royals are world champs, no argument.”

      – in a Hoover vacuum – not in reality: reality, they are frauds…

“They won it in 5 games, so it wasn’t luck.”

      – the Mets gave games away, they too unworthy to be in a WS… GIANTS going for a three-peat in 2016.

“Last year they were in it til game 7.”

      – they were closer to being legit in 2014 than they were 2015: frauds nonetheless, as every sports team since 1969…

“They are a very good pro baseball team, just no argument.”

      – they are as the rest, illegitimate…

“Chiefs are trying and yes they have been not so great for years, true. But K to say the Royals are lucky or that the Chiefs have not fought back and can’t beat anyone is kinda silly.”

      – silly is the modern-age sports world… hold no value or merit, any of it.

“I like you and you are sharp as hell, but its just something to let go of right now. I’d love to read your comments on sports on other issues. We all agree those of us that are not just fans, the Chiefs have been a mediocre team for years. However the Royals were outstanding. Lets move on. K you can’t give stats that take away their world championship. You just can’t.”

      – we agree to disagree… next challenger step forward!
