Glazer: Talking Turkey NFL Sunday

Las Vegas Insider power rankings have the Kansas City Chiefs ranked No. 5…

WTF! Y

That’s right, ahead of Denver, Green Bay and the Steelers. So the Chiefs are the best .500 team in the NFL?  In a more believable review, CBS POWER RANKINGS have KC ranked No. 11 – that sounds more like it.

Las Vegas (and the public) think Dallas’ Tony Romo is a monster quarterback. Some even think Dallas will run the table and win its division. Right now they’re 3-7.

I say NO WAY.

But Vegas has the Panthers tomorrow losing to Dallas in Dallas.

The undefeated Panthers are a 1 1/2 point dog at Jerry’s World/Dallas. Green Bay is an 8 point fav over the Bears and the Eagles are – oh, who cares  – they’re about a 2  1/2 point underdog to the Lions.

The Chiefs play the Bills, another wounded team this Sunday.

Buffalo is coming off its close loss to the Pats in New England. However quarterback Tyrod Taylor of the Bills hurt his collar bone. Taylor is a maybe – but injured – advantage Chiefs, who are a 6 point favorite at home.

Next week the Chiefs are at 4-6 Oakland, a team that’s gone backwards – but still are dangerous.

These are the top two teams we face.

A split likely gives KC a wild card spot.

Winning both almost secures the spot unless we get key injuries. So however you look at it, a win Sunday is huge for KC and moves them one big step closer to playoffs.

Just six more weekends until another swiss chiefs season heads home for the holidays…

K I love you but you are wrong man. Chiefs D and an ok offense make them likely to win at least 5 more maybe even 6 more…at worst 4 more with upsets over them…if healthy…the teams they play are all worse except maybe Oakland…Bills quarterback hurt…so a likely tough win got easier at home…Chiefs could win a playoff game if its the right team like Denver or maybe go to Indy or a lesser division champ…it’s Andy’s best team overall, with Peters, the two young backs, Kelce getting better, Maclin, pass D much better so on..so they are better..same old problem Alex Smith is just ok and can’t dominate a game…this likely will keep KC from winning much in post season.

Right back atcha CG… only, don’t bet/count on anything you just said – swiss as the masses NFL will break your heart & wallet.

Reality be, wins/losses are not equal nor does said equate any semblance logic in terms ‘you can count on said’, beyond their most recent game. NFL has devolved into a ‘best of the worst’ league: it is a mess – total mediocrity reigns.

The swiss lost 5 in a row, 4 wins now after- do you really wanna count on that capriciousness? DET’s won 3 games in a row: does that make them legit, too? GB lost 3 in a row, now 4 of their last 5… stick a fork in ’em?

Such is the (il)logic created ‘for’ and ‘vs’ in a league bereft of any genuine good team, certainly none that be actually great. Make no mistake, football 2015 is not your father’s game… difference ‘tween so-called best & worst nigh on negligible, any given day.

‘How the ball bounces’ now magnified as errant officiating too (over-officiating my opine, but, that’s another topic.) ‘Breaks’ magnify the ‘not a cat whiskers difference’ ‘tween any teams: result is a ‘W’ or ‘L’ any given Sunday, Thursday or Monday, ultimate success or failure spared or delivered based factors having nothing to do ‘supremacy’ born of superior talent.

Thus, odds of the swiss (indeed, of any team) losing each their remaining games is just as great their winning any of them, to each their own personal beliefs.

K – since the dawn of mankind the older generation has always longed for the good old days when things were so much better. But the world just keeps on spinning and the only constant is change. If you can grasp that lesson you will find much more enjoyment in life.

Nod Keith Jackson – “WHOA, Nellie!” Nod ‘Tommy Boy’, “hold on there, Lee Harvey.”

Sexagenarian Kerouac enjoys life immensely – emphasis ‘yesteryear’s, tho not today’s vapid.
Time/limited internet paper not allowing me sufficient means, will provide a few examples the sporting realm since that is the venue this blog, though be many more sports as well pop culture music, cars, fashion and more.

Specifically sporting sense, the ‘best’ remains ‘thence’, not ‘present’. Records still unbroken various sports remain legion – most revered ones.

A few brief examples: basketball Chamberlain’s 100 point game among 70 NBA marks his ‘still’ unmatched/unexceeded other players to date).

Baseball, Williams .406 season batting average, DiMaggio’s 56 games straight hitting & Young’s 511 wins.

Football, the top 2 & 3 the top 4 all-time pass interceptors Krause, Tunnell & Lane, despite playing in an era wherein passing ranked an distant second behind 3-yards cloud of dust.

Kerouac can list MANY more most EVERY sport.

So much for the modern world of ‘progress’ – and the super-dooper pooper-scooper athletes , their PED enhanced & bogus stats which STILL fail to match ‘best ever’ earned/retained yesteryear.

OK, your turn (as the swiss same, keep trying)

            🙂

It’s a fools debate. Although fun to ponder how the past would compete against the present, it’s all conjecture. Try and appreciate the beauty, excitement and thrills sports has always offered. It is still there, I promise.
