Glazer: Stanford’s Reality Show Pilot Attains Liftoff

IMG_5502The LA folks busted their butts on the Stanford’s reality show pilot…

Hey, I was impressed by their 20 man staff that went all out to get the goods on Stanford’s staff, my brother Jeff and I and all things Kansas City.

Getting this opportunity had me watching some of the newer reality shows as well as ones that have been on for years. I know many of you don’t probably watch these, but lots of people do and they dominate the air waves today.

Many of the reality shows today are game show type programs.

Some, like Pawn Stars, attract interest due to some of the more interesting items we see coming into the shop that people sell.

Was that guitar really signed by all the Beatles in 1964? Is it worth $100,000? Is it real?

Other reality shows focus on the people or actors. Like Dog The Bounty Hunter and of course The Kardashians.

My pal Mo Mandel hosts Barmagedden where you see two bars trying new things to see which works and makes the most money. And Shark Tank, about who will have the next million dollar idea.

With Stanford’s the focus would be an out-of-control family that’s – well – kinda funny and a whole lot crazy. A family that runs a biz that just happens to be a comedy club (and all the crazy stuff that goes with it).

In other words, all we had to do was be ourselves.

This company did 10 hour day shoots with us with most of the goings on  going down off stage.

It’ll be weeks before we know what happens.

I think it would be fun to have a show from KC. And Stanford’s sure has a unique history and our family is kinda different. Hah!

IMG_5472My dad, Stan, may have stolen the scenes from all of us.

He’s still a character like no other.

The actors they hired to work with us fit in well and TJ Miller and Steve Hytner gave the show a star power boost as well.

Hope it works out.

Nice to be thought of by people who could put it all on the national map, but either way it was fun.

  1. Ophan of the Road says:

I like the Pawn Stars show where Rick lost over $100,000 when he took some primo stuff to auction. That’s reality.

Good luck, most reality shows are far from reality.

When’s the crossover with Honey Boo Boo?

  2. the dude says:

So, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and finally your show. Sounds about right in the unreality show progression.

  3. Lance The Intern says:

I’ve always wondered about how much of the “reality shows” are scripted…The only one I’ve watched with any regularity is “Fast N Loud”.

You also mentioned “actors they hired to work with us”…What exactly did these actors do?

    • CG says:

They wanted some super hot T and A girls as bartenders so they hired a couple twins to be just that. They are bartenders and hot…would be welcome to work with us anyways…hope they stay on…a comic they liked to be my sidekick who looks like Brad Pitt. Good guy, funny…everyone else is already there…and these guys fit in just fine.

  4. KCMonarch says:

Let’s be clear…this would be a show from Overland Park, Kansas.

And the personality depth on display would certainly not be representative of our great city.

    • CG says:

Yes God Forbid. Lets shoot it from 19th and Troost instead. Good idea.

      • There ain’t no action at 19th & Troost. Just some scrap iron joint. However, 27th & Prospect could be interesting. Or Norton & Independence Avenues. You’ll see a little a everything at them corners.

        • Orphan of the Road says:

3600 Independence Ave has a long-running show. Not as good since they took out the pay phone on the corner.

Somali cab drivers behind the store, homeless summer camp.

Best though are the john-stings. You would think those customers would know if the ho has all their teeth it is an undercover cop.

  5. The Truth says:

If no one else wants to say it, I will.

Congrats. Whether it works out or not, you’ve clearly worked hard at pitching ideas for years and it must feel good to “have a chance.”

    Best of luck.

  6. CG says:

Look some pull for you some don’t and many just don’t care. Like I said would be nice for us and KC to have a funny show like this…that’s all.

  7. Play that violin says:

Late to the party Glazer. Mancow and family gave it a shot and it was about as enjoyable as a cold. History usually repeats itself.

    • CG says:

Well I know Eric, he had me on his show in Chicago. Treated me well. The show was about his brothers car spot in Butler Missouri, not Kansas City. Though Eric was known the biz and his brother were not. Totally different, huh. But hey they had a show.

  8. Jack Springer says:

Reality shows are so 90’s. Who wants to know more about a drug addict.

    • CG says:

Well Jack I guess you are talking about you, are you a drug addict I’m not never was. People like you hate your lives and want to rag on anyone else who you think has an easier way. ‘The Tom Brady” effect…lets hate on that guy he’s got it going on. So a national show wants to do a pilot on a KC family and institution and all you can show is hate and jealousy. Kinda sad. But too often today thats the case. I don’t know you, of course and you don’t know me. Find a nice hobby Jack.

      • the dude says:

Whoah there bub, calling your little yuk yuk shack an institution even in a quaint cowtown like KC is a little bit much, muchacho.

        • Super Dave says:

        • CG says:

          SEE BELOW DUDE..

          • the dude says:

I had no idea a place considered an institution could move so many times within a fairly short span. I guess we have a differing opinion in what we define an ‘institution’.
And calm down Ruggo, keep the caps to a minimum, please.

          • Super Dave says:

As always your wrong again but with you that’s always the facts.

  9. CG says:

All was doing was updating what went on with the pilot. It’s always an attack no matter what is written. Nobody is bragging just reporting an interesting issue and a maybe fun show. Hey it may never happen we know that, but the effort is there and the show would be very funny and entertaining compared to most. It’s out of my hands now. Being chosen for a chance was a nice thing. I’m an entertainer and have been most of my life. My job has been to put some smiles on faces for decades even by allowing myself to be a target so often in the media. It’s not always fun, but someone has to do it.

    • the dude says:

That cross you bear for all of us ‘little people’ must be awful darn heavy.

      • CG says:

I never said ‘little people’ or put myself above anyone man. You guys do that, not me. As for moving well our first location, Westport was there 31 years, kinda a minute…we have stayed in KC now for over 40 years…moving locations matters not…its what we have accomplished in those 40 plus years…we are proud of it..hey nothing lasts forever…there are few nationally known places from KC sadly…some not many, we are one, thats all.

  10. b12 says:

CG is a lightning rod…but love him or hate him, you have to give the guy credit, he makes things happen.

Maybe the show doesn’t make it. Maybe reality shows are passe. What the hell, the guy is out there getting more done than most of us .

Tongue bath is over. Your sports takes still suck, CG.

  11. carrot topsy says:

    Is this a self-financed pilot?

Nice job breaking keyfabe about the unreality. Not really gonna help it get picked up.

As reality shows go it isn’t a horrible idea, but I suspect the focus won’t be on the comedy.

    • CG says:

Uh no it was clear in the story. The LA company saw our animated pilot and picked us as a family that was funny with a unique biz…it is about comedy in general and the people who run it, do it and watch it…so its financed by them and whatever network puts it on…it may be as close to a real reality show as one can get these days. It will focus on the owners, the family, Stan, Jeff and Craig…their relationship at work with each other, the staff, the comics..

  12. Wialliam says:

Way to go Craig you have now added another person to your so called hater list by that completely unwarranted attack on Dave. I really hope this so called reality show gets off the ground and shows the world what a huge ass you are. You know what Craig and Hearne this pertains to you as well is that your opinions are that and everyone else is allowed to have one as well. But on this site it’s plain to see anyone who disagrees with you two is open to very personal attacks. Neither one of you is all that great a writer nor are your stories awards winning articles. You both are two men stuck in the Midwest along with everyone else making a living the best you can as everyone else awakes and does each morning. But starting today this site will be short one less reader and no longer will I say to anyone,” Hey go check out this on Kansas City Confidential.” No, I will do just the opposite and make sure I never in anyway support anything related to it.
FYI Craig, I didn’t dare for your book either nor do I find your club to be that entirely great and for sure not an institution of Kansas City, so scream and yell at me now.

    • CG says:

No need. William clearly you are a pal of Dave, that’s fine. This guy attacked me years ago for no reason, as do most haters. I never attacked anyone who didn’t. I don’t know him or likely any of the trolls who do that. Its common today. All blogs get that, aimed at the writer. The subject was a reality show, a pilot. And then comes the ‘attack’ way it is…for all who write on these sites. If I write about Tom Brady, then I get the heat. Always do. So have at it pal.

Nothing is ever good enough. All is never well. When it is, trolls not only here but everywhere still find issue. Thats fine, but to attack the writer well, gets old. Hey I can’t stop it and Hearne allows them to be printed. Ok. That’s the gig.

      • Ophan of the Road says:

Craig, I saw your response to a pretty negative post on CP’s FB page. You responded in a civilized manner to some real cold, statements. It was a side of you not seen here. It was that reasonable response, I believe, which prompted CP to delete the whole thread.

Ol’ Super Dave stands up for a local pedophile who continued to troll the internet for kids in violation of his parole conditions. And here he is tsk-tsking you for your writing.

So ol’ Super Dave is against immorality until he isn’t I suppose.

He was all buddy, buddy with Paul W until he turned on him like a rabid dog.

        • paulwilsonkc says:

Yeah, and I have NO IDEA what I even did to the dude! We was coming to First Fridays, being all nice, then next thing I knew he was on that greasy beaners site just ripping me a new one!! But, it IS the intrawebs, anything can happen.

        • paulwilsonkc says:

My deepest, most sincere apoliges, DUDE. I didnt not mean to use your proper name as a slang term. That was wrong of me and Im sorry. I thought have said “ass puppet douchnozzle” instead, but since you can’t correct mistakes on this poor excuse for a blog, I’ll simply not use the term so loosely in the future.

      • Wialliam says:

I have never met or pals of anyone who posts or writes here on this blog thank God. I do know of Mr. Wilson from First Fridays and let us leave it at that. You reap what you sow is my motto and when you make your life a public show for all to see people are going to respond either positive or negative. When you try and place yourself on a higher level of others or gloat about your family not all will agree and some will maybe get rough with choice of words, but that’s all part of public opinion. If one is not able to stand others opinions then they best not express themselves as some do. Craig you hate that people don’t like everything that you do and think all should be accepting with your lifestyle and criminal history. The fact of it is many probably don’t and that’s the price you have to pay for what you did and do.
Mr. Wilson you think nobody has the right to speak out against you or anyone in your family but instead feel you have the right to make racists comments such as, “greasy beaners site” or say you should call other people “ass puppet douchnozzle”. I know who you are talking about with the beaner comment the same as probably anyone else in here. As I seem to remember the incident of you going off your rocker about some comments made about your family none of those comments were made by Tony Botello. But that didn’t stop Wilson from doing a Craig Glazer type rant on Tony’s site which solved nothing but adding fuel to what people was then able to pop off to him about. If I knew you and was maybe internet friends with you Paul I would probably have dropped you from all contact like a hot potato as well along with a few choice words about your actions. I saw what you said and you were just as out of line with your rant as what you was ranting about and I seem to remember many said just that.

Hearne, nice collection of misfits you have as a part of your so called blog. They are bigger haters than what I seem to see said in here most of the time. But since they are your boys they are allowed to say whatever they want but if anyone one else talks like that you as well at times lash out at the commenter or just block them. Free speech on this blog only pertains to certain people. That is why I have grown to hate and to be finished with this site. Over at Tony’s Kansas City I see a lot of things I don’t like but I giggle at a lot of it and wonder just who these people really are and what lives they lead. In fact the Kansas City Star site is about as bad as Tony’s just displayed using different words. Well I am off to St Louis, I think I will go buy me a Lotus Evora and get some vanity plates that read FUCG to have on it.

        • CG says:

Well the truth is I never wrote or attacked ANYONE who didn’t go below the belt on me. Simple as that. My stories are to entertain or opinions often on national issues. That’s all. You say bragging. They really are not, they are just things I did or am doing…comes off that way cause its often unique or different than most thats all. I hate nobody. The attackers are all fake names and likely people I never met or know… way it is.

        • paulwilsonkck says:

It’s interesting Super Dave has to put his balls on the shelf and come back under another name to make his real points.

  13. Frankie G says:

that is a funny pic of the old guy still driving one of those low-slung “middle-age crazy” sports cars older guys used to get — back in the 80s.

todays “in” cars are luxury SUVs — many being sold in the $250K range — with todays luxury buyers aware of the dangers caused by the massive pick-up trucks and huge SUVs so prevalent today.

    • the dude says:

HaHa, yeah, Gramps stuffing himself in his wee little Lotus is probably entertaining in itself.

    • CG says:

Don’t make me post all my new girlfriends in their 20’s..old guy..hmmm take another look man….that’s movie star good looks pal…at any age…I don’t think many can compete..with this ‘old guy’ not with girls and I’m in top shape…but hey we all get older. Even you pal. Lets see what you look like, who you date and that little car…p.s. only Lotus Evora in KC I’m aware of, I hear there is a red one, haven’t seen it, may be..but out of what 250,000 plus cars in the metro..really.

      • the dude says:

It’s OK gramps, at least you didn’t go total stereotypical geezer and get a Corvette or 911. I’ll give you credit there.

        • Frankie G says:

well — he is sporting a 1980’s style “birds nest”wig — which looks like it’s about to blow off any second–

now ‘that’ would make for a funny bit in the show.

          • CG says:

Frankie can’t blow off, its my hair redone into my head…do that can’t happen. Funny maybe 50% or more of tv/film stars have done the same, but rarely does anyone attack them or put them down, John Travolta, Sean Connery, Bruce Willis, Ted Dansen, Star of Taken films, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne (by the way Franks and John’s uh, not good but we love’m) its a long, long list…so if you think its a put down, like “gramp” in hopes girls read this and go ooooh, doesn’t work that way…I carry myself at a level where that doesn’t apply and that’s why its said to take me down in the ‘ladies’ dept. no other reason…

      • artemmis says:

‘Sugar Dating” sites are one of the top growth sectors in online businesses.

What started out as a way for “rich old men” to meet hookers — now has spread ot to market to any geezer with a few bucks in his pocket, to meet out-of – work younger women desperate for a way to pay their bills.

  14. hahhararley says:

WTF: to be honest …I’ve had my verbal exchanges with everyone on this board!
Wilson and I went back and forth for many tims…but we share many friends
Me and hearne have gone back and forth…but we’ve had dinner twice in the
past and even though we banter back and forth (sometimes throwing dings at
each other) he still has been pretty fair. He jabs me…I jab him. But even with
that there is no doubt I could sit down and have a great converstation with the
    guy…even after all our rousting.
Chuck…we don’t agree on many things. But no one here has more respect for
this guy. He knows me…and for a guy who served like he did…I have the most
respect for him. We’ll banter and disagree and throw sharp jabs…throw some
one liners at each other but we agree to disagree….we may not agree on the
public issues of the day but you can never take away his service and his
    passion for his opinions.
Same with jr…he’s got hs opinions and no doubt a very intelligent guy (especially
in British lit which I know nothing about!) We bantered back and forth…ad
I love to debate right wingers and people who can stay up with me. My
family knew his family…a really good family an now they sold some property
and allowed TOP GOLF to come to town I’m even happier! Could sit dow
with him and talk…never about politics…but just b.s. ing about other subjects.
then there’s glaze. Him and I go back. I pounce on his comments about sports
but get some fun out of his writings and his take on life. We may not agree..
but theres really no more colorful character than this guy in our city.
We’re all set in our ways…and I read that glaze has a shot at a really big deal.
I happen to have met someof the people involved in that deal years ago….
    and they’re good people.
So this guy gets a shot at something big. And people come on wth comments
that are over te top. I’ve been guilty before also.
But I’ve always pulled for the underdog in life. Becvause the underdog has to
    work harder…smarter…and be persistent.
Who cares about what happened 30-40 years ago….probably we all did something
we should be in jail for. We were dumb and stupid.
So I always pull for the home team. And if glaze gets thisdeal…I’d be happy
for the guy because he represents all the guys in the world who fought and worked
hard for something….a guy and his family running a comedy shop…with probably
one of the greatest p.r. talents anywhere. He gets press…lets be honest…he knows
how to work the media. And he gets more comments nd blowback and feedback
on everything he says and writes. But that’s glaze. He loves the spotlight…take itor
    leave it!
And I for one…someone who’s banged on the guy for his sports pics (remember:
ITS OVER…ITS OVER!!!!) hope this turns out good for the guy.
He’s worked hard. Being self employed sometimes is a bitch. I know!!!!!
So glaze…you got Harley pushing for this deal to come true.
Good luck….keep us informed….and maybe you’ll take over Pawn Stars or the
    Walking Dead….
With so many stations on cable now…I think his chances of pulling this
off are very good!!!! Stations need programing to fill up their schedules..
and I think this is going to be a winner!!!!
Showtime tried this before. Bad part is that the “real star” of glaze’s crew
    won’t be included this time!!!!!!

    wish ya the best
    Harley

    • CG says:

Now that was nice Harley, well said. Thank you. Yes I have always worked hard to make all these things happen over the last 35 years…or so…not easy..nobody gives you anything. Hopefully this year it will all be good. We’ll see.

  15. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Man, the fishing sure was good in this thread. Lots of bites on the stinkbait that was tossed in. Hilarious to watch!

  16. chuck says:

Sheesh…, give it a fuc*in rest, the man is actually IN the entertainment business and wants the public that supports his business, to know, that he might land a Reality Show.

    Best wishes.

    😉

  17. artemmis says:

why is that old guy in the lead photo wearing a motorcycle helmet ..

    just to drive a car?

  18. PucKChaser says:

20 or so years ago, I worked nights, so I used to workout at Woodside in the mornings.

Stan was always around. 1/2 working out. 1/2 giving us a lecture about all the things right and wrong with KC. I always enjoyed hanging around Stan. He’s quite a character. Everyone once-in-awhile I’d hear him on the phone giving his boys a, deserved, f-bomb filled dress down.

So, I guess what I’m saying is, “I’ve heard it already”.
