Calvin Sense: Keep An Eye on These Up-And-Coming Republican Stars

Mia Love

A bit of good, light news for the weekend…

Three rising stars of the Republican party, two in Congress and one sitting governor.

Mia Love of Utah became the first black Republican woman elected to Congress.

While in itself this is an impressive achievement, Love’s humility is even more impressive. She insists on not being known by what she represents in race and gender, but by her words and actions. She’s also a perfect example of the American Dream as the daughter of Haitian immigrants who worked hard to reach where she is today. Well done, Love!

joni6n-1-webAlso Republican Joni Ernst won Iowa’s Senate race by 8.5%.

Ernst is well known for her viral campaign videos and down home Iowa roots. She was raised in the poorest, most economically challenged part of Iowa. She’s even a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard. Ernst just seems to have the type of charisma that’s highly important for a successful political career and a bright future.

Scott Walker

Wisconsin Republican Scott Walker also won his election.

However it was far from Walker’s first. He’s been doing state elections for 25 years and has quite a following among Wisconsin voters. An important factor in Walker’s campaign was that he toured the country and didn’t hide behind celebrity names.

Al ofl these politicians have become successful because they display a hefty amount of Common Sense –  or dare I say, Calvin Sense.

They just so happened to be Republicans.

Scott Walker has won THREE elections in the past three-years. He will be leading the governor’s branch of the party as he can show he gets things done in a normally Blue State. Backing him will be those who want someone with administrative experience in running a government.

While Red ruled the races, progressive law passed in those same states. Arkansas with a reasonable minimum wage (50% of the prevailing wage), too many black men in prison and new jobs being primarily part-time. All traditional talking points.

And those who say women were the losers are taken to task by a Liberal woman. chuck, your take here.

The electorate was in a throw the bums out mood. Not so much a Republican lovefest. Udall lost support of women, some pro-choice women felt his campaign was one issue.

If the Congress works with the real President Obama, the corporatist, they can gain momentum for 2016.

Of course the Republicans are the party which says government doesn’t work and then gets themselves elected to prove it.

When was the last election in which the media declared the losing party dead and was dead wrong?

yes sir…expect that young black woman in the republican caucus to
      get lots of exposure.
those racist old republicans can now use the “n” wordwith one of their
own. Now they don’t just have the prez to use that word.
I’m sure she’ll get some great assignments. Haha!!!!!

  2. Mysterious J says:

Sorry, according to Hearne Christopher Jr. opinions posted under assumed names are the same as writing on a bathroom wall.

    • admin says:

You’re on the right track, Mysterious…

You just have to think it through a little further.

There’s a difference between completely anonymous posters throwing hand grenades with little to nothing backing them up besides unsubstantiated opinions and edited columns by highly successful businessmen who have carved out high profile successful careers.

That you might not “get” that further diminishes your “perspective.”

In addition, quite often the offerings by anonymous posters can be and is both interesting and informative. I think readers get that as well.

However over simplifying things to try and be cute is kind, you know, a waste of time.

  3. mike says:

What about Tim Scott? First black senator elected in the south since reconstruction. Like Mia Love, he wants to talk about ideas and values, instead of race.

    • admin says:

      Good one, Mike…

I guess the difference is that Scott was appointed to the post first in 2013, but he did win the election on Tuesday for the South Carolina seat for the final two years.
