Glazer: A Wild Ride That Made Us All Proud

0-070415-01Yes, it was a heartbreaker…

It was also a game the Kansas City Royals could have won except for the fact that they ran into the man – World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner.

We just could not hit the guy – he was something else. Had Bumgarner not been a Giant the Royals would have won the series, no question. Our pitching was overall much better than theirs, save the BUM. The two team’s hitting was at least equal and our D was a bit better.

The teams were even except for THAT GUY!

Look, it was a terrific ride, a one month run nobody expected here or anywhere else. The Royals had America’s eye for four weeks and that may not happen again in our lifetimes.

royalsSLUGGERRR_20130326112646_640_480 hope it does, but it took 30 years to do this since the last time. And hey Chiefs, the Royals are one up on you now!

Will the Royals be back in a World Series again?

Who knows, it takes both talent and luck. The team is reasonably talented now but luck is pretty much up to the baseball Gods. It happened this year out of nowhere, so it could happen again.

Westport club owner Bill Nigro told me that Westport was jammed all night, like it has been throughout all the playoff games. The P&L was too. Those two areas cleaned up with drinking and food bucks –cleaned up.

As for the rest of Kansas City businesses, not so much, but hey it was a citywide smile fest.

2604084And I feel really bad for 610 Sport’s Danny Parkins.

Parkins had a 500 dollar, 30 to 1 bet on the Royals to win it all. He would have won 15 grand. Hey almost, fun ride, Danny boy.

And I feel bad for all the Royals fans who wanted to jump for joy all night and all weekend. Yet we were there, guys,  center stage, Game 7 of the WORLD SERIES…just one run away with a runner on 3rd in the bottom of the 9th.

The Royals made us all proud of Kansas City.

And that’s something we all been needing. It proved that an everyday team, – or an everyday person for that matter – can still be a big winner. That it can happen and it happened here.

IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER, IT’S OVER and in more ways than one KC YOU GUYS WON…YOU WON THE HEARTS OF MILLIONS.

CONGRATS!

  1. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Piss on Danny Parkins. He was too stupid to hedge his bet once the Royals made the World Series. Bet half that amount on San Fran, and he walks away a winner of $7500 regardless of what happens. But what do you expect from a moronic Cubs fan like Parkins to begin with?

  2. Kerouac says:

One minor quibble, CG… “hey Chiefs, the Royals are one up on you now!”

    – Chiefs have been in two ‘World Championship’ Games, Superbowl I & IV – went 1-1… Royals have now been in two ‘World Series’ too, 1985 & 2014… likewise 1-1. What the Royals ‘have’ done that the Chiefs have not: become relevant ‘today’, 21st century.

The former can go the way baseball ‘footnote’, another also-ran follows footsteps their brother Chiefs who sorta hang around – ‘pseudo contenders’ – never ‘Champions’. The Royals can take things farther becoming as 1960’s LA Lakers of the NBA: always good but never good enough, bowing supremacy Boston’s Celtics ad nauseam.

Or the Royals can aspire emulate the Green Bay Packers of the late 1950’s NFL, who built a ‘team’ (like the Royals already have) that lost in their first try a Championship Game 1960 (check, Royals have accomplished that), then proceeded win 5 the next 7 years worth of NFL Championship Games 1961-1967 (’61, ’62, ’65, ’66, ’67.)

Keep their core, add some more and (unless they have read-made replacements the minors) Shields and the other free agents theirs retained. An effort like theirs 2014 ‘World Series’ would be a terrible thing to waste, ongoing. KC Royals have raised the level of expectation theirs now… step two is turning the dream into reality, less they otherwise become like ‘The Impossible Dream’ 1967 Boston Red Sox who made it all the way their first ‘World Series’ in 31 years, only to lose it and fail win it until 2007.

    • SteelyDanMan says:

You got forgot them losing to the Phillies in ’80, Kerouac.

    • Kerouac says:

Yes, Kerouac did forget them (same as their fans try but cannot) because they were thoroughly forgettable, obviously… stopped following the A’s when they left, ditto the Royals aft their ’69 birth and mine early 70’s exit KC.

Recalculated history considered, be even worse for KCindy # 1 (Chiefs) than it is for KCindy # 2 (Royals); from now on, the latter is tops/#1 with me, former the Chiefs a giant steaming #2 that will continue live in memory if not delivery relevance, century 21.

      🙂

  3. Kerouac says:

HC, another double post (must be post ‘World Series’ gremlins)… please delete one them.

  4. Jack Springer says:

What everyone wants to know is …. did Joe Buck and Bumgarner hook up last night? The love was flowing from Buck for hours on air for all the world to witness. Does Bumgarner feel the same?

Very poor coverage of the World Series by Fox Sports.

  5. chuck says:

They had a good year and the city loved it.

Some one had better check on Lefty… Speaking of Lefty, Madison Ivy, after all that work, is on the list for Tommy John surgery next week.

    • admin says:

I think Lefty will be okay…

I’m sure we’ll be hearing from him pretty soon.

And actually, I’m excited that we can all get back to all things non baseball.

It was a fun ride, but I’m more than ready to move on.

  6. Kerouac says:

The poor sports abound, Pa-fluke- aville- aka Kansas City… not the team much as their Royally-flushed fandumb. To the victor go the spoils – GIANTS/Kerouac uber alles!

    🙂

  7. Libertarian says:

    Thanks guys!

It no longer sucks to wear a Royals hat.

  8. CG says:

Where is Lefty? This should have been his cover not mine…he is much more up on baseball than I am.

  9. harley says:
