Hearne: Scribe Says MU Lucky Against Johnny Football; Must Beat Auburn or Season Will Be Forgotten

we-are-mizzou-music-video-630x353This year’s Missouri football team is good but not great one, says scribe Craig Glazer

That could change if the MU beats Auburn. And that now is a must win game if this year’s Missouri football team wants to earn the respect of national sportswriters and fans.

“Missouri is about to play the game that could define them,” Glazer says. “because if Missouri loses, they could get knocked out of the BCS bowl games completely and get stuck going to a lesser bowl.

“Let me say this about Missouri; if they beat Auburn – and Auburn is a legitimate team – that would make them the best Missouri football team in history.”

As for Mizzou’s win over Texas A&M Saturday, “Missouri did not look like a national championship contending team,” Glazer says. “They’re good, not great. And there’s no argument that the Texas A&M Missouri faced was not the A&M team of five weeks ago. Because Johnny Football went out there a little banged up and the game didn’t mean that much to Texas A&M. Because in the big picture, A&M was already going to a bowl game.”

mizzou-football-helmet-carGlazer’s one to ten ranking of MU and other top teams:

Alabama  9.5

Auburn     9.0

Fla. State  10

Missouri    8.5

The Scribe’s bottom line:

3275beff9530de620076cbc1a4b5116d“Well, Missouri is one game away from a possible national title game, but here’s the downside. They’re not playing Alabama, they’re playing Auburn. And Florida State plays Duke for their championship –  an Ivy League type team – who they will beat. Ohio State is undefeated and has one game left at Michigan State, which is the toughest team they’ve played all year. Ohio State has had an incredibly easy schedule this year.

“So let’s say Michigan State beats Ohio State and Missouri beats Auburn, Then Missouri would face Florida State for the national title and Florida State should win that game. And no local team has ever been in a BCS championship game, so that would be a first.

“But if Missouri loses to Auburn – which is probably likely – it will end up being a forgotten season. It would be anti climatic. And they’re already not getting much love from the national press.”

Stay tuned…

All I can say is Ohio State and Florida State better not look past their next opponents, they will both be in for a fight. Duke is no slouch this year and Michigan State loves to play spoiler in football, particularly when it involves Buckeyes. Mizzou and Auburn is going to be an interesting game, war Mizzou.

I thought it would take a loss for the glazed eyed one to flip flop, I was wrong. Now I think this is just trolling for page views.

  3. KC Res says:

This is awful. How is your groin, CG? Straddling the fence that hard has to be painful.

“And Florida State plays Duke for their championship – an Ivy League type team ”

Hearne – I know CG gets you pageviews, but this is just awful that you allow a statement like that above to be posted. Duke is in the ACC which is the same conference Florida State (a CG 10!) is in. Ivy League teams aren’t in the same galaxy.

    • CG says:

You stand corrected, I said AN IVY LEAGUE TYPE SCHOOL, didn’t say they were in the Ivy League..Duke is Yale, Harvard like, not ever having been a football power, EVER. So, a great season for Duke, playing a monster in FSU…final on that game will be like this FSU 42 Duke 17…Ohio State could lose to MS. Yes, MU could beat Auburn, yes…if so, MU goes to the title game. I HOPE SO..

      • balbonis moleskine says:

I attended an Ivy. Duke is no Ivy. They are a bunch of Dudebros who took a few AP classes in college and didn’t want to go to UNC.

      I know, KC…

But outside of basketball – and admittedly Duke has been having a really good football season – Duke is more “like” an Ivy League team than certainly Florida State.

A 6-7 Duke team lost to Cincinnati last year in the lowly “Belk Bowl”

Prior to that, Duke had not played in a bowl game since 1995 and had not won a postseason game since 1961.

      Looking back at Duke’s football record prior to that, starting in 2011, their football team went: 3-9, 3-9, 5-7, 4-8, 1-11, 0-12, 1-10, 2-9, 4-8, 2-10, 0-11, 0-11, 3-8

      Get the picture?

I don’t think the Scribe was all that far out on the limb on this one, wild man

Sheezus, Glazer. I’ve seen less waffling in a pastry shop. You’re all over the map.

  5. CG says:

Folks remember I am NOT writing this, Hearne is…he interviews me, he has his own agenda…in this case it is to be a little hard on MU…I confess I was wrong on the Tigers, they are a very good team..maybe a great one…that is yet to be determined. I hope they beat Auburn and then face FSU…it would be wonderful fun and great attention to our area…yes..go Tigers…my folks went there and I did one year at UMKC, I have ties to MU as well, not KU.

Hearne is correct in quoting me on my answers…I do think A and M was off its game, I do think MU like the Chiefs, played good teams like Georgia, Florida,A and M, when these teams all had issues, as did the Chiefs early in the season face wounded bears…makes a dif….MU can show everyone that they belong by beating Auburn…I think they can do it…

I will take MU on a tease with FSU and get the Tigers plus 7 1/2 at least and FSU minus 22 or so…I like it…I hope MU wins outright…happy now..I WAS WRONG ON TIGERS THEY ARE VERY GOOD AND WE ARE PROUD OF THEM…OK.

    • Jess says:

Ahhhh, so it is Hearne’s fault that these stories make you sound like a dumb ass, Dude…I would stop talking to him.

      • admin says:

Easy Jess, Craig said what he said. I just put it all together and write the headlines. I disagree that he sounds dumb. I think he makes some reasonable arguments.

Obviously if you’re a die hard Mizzou fan you may not like hearing his points, but they’re well-argued and that’s what life is all about, isn’t it? Differing opinions.

      • CG says:

Jess I don’t think I look like a dumb ass ever, my picks are excellent, my pregame breakdowns are some of the best….things change weekly….Hearne is a bit more negative than I am on MU and the Chumps, but hey he’s entitled….its been a fun year for MU and the Chiefs way, way better than years past…so cool it dude.

  6. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Here’s my major beef with all this crap about other teams having injuries. Mizzou played 4 games with their back up quarterback, and went 3-1. But no one wants to talk about the injuries Mizzou had. EJ Gaines missed some games. Durron Singleton missed games. Both are starters. ALL teams have injuries. Just the way it goes. No one shed a tear for MU last year when they were decimated by injuries. Oh but now it’s an excuse for the other teams? Did Georgia have some injuries? Yes. But not on defense and not on their offensive line, which is where Missouri just kicked their ass. Did Florida have some guys out? Yep, but so did Missouri. That was Mauk’s first game ever as a starter. Quite frankly, Missouri has a better coach and better players than Florida.

  7. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

One last thought…want to talk about LUCK, Hearne? Auburn is two miracle plays away from being 9-3.

    • CG says:

True that, I think MU will beat them, by the way Auburn is favored by 1 1/2..so far…

    • admin says:

Well Mr. Guy, I’m no sports expert but I watched much of that Alabama – Auburn game and it was closely contested. And the Scribe was predicting to me before Alabama lost that Missouri wouldn’t stand a chance if it played Bama – Auburn sure stood a chance.

I also don’t think that touchdown runback was mere luck. You might as well say that any big pass or run play is just luck.
