Is Kansas City getting short shrift when it comes to top touring Broadway musicals?
Big time, if you buy into a recent front page story in the Kansas City Star bagging on Broadway Across America, the exclusive rights holder to producing such shows at the Music Hall in downtown Kansas City.

Way to stay on top of the news! This was in the Star about a month ago, give or take, one of the individuals mentioned contributes to this blog and you really didn’t expand on the story in a relevant way. Looks like rubbing elbows with Culo Botello is paying off for you.

Try two weeks, smart guy. What part about this being an ongoing story – as well as a bust – do you not get?
And like it’s a closely-guarded secret that Edelman reviews theater for KCC? Nice genius stroke.

I’m with the smartman…story didn’t really get advanced in any way. Edelman is too classy to sling mud. I re-read the Star story and he pretty much said the same thing. And whether the story is two weeks or four weeks old it still looks like you’re behind the 8-Ball chasing the tail of your old employer, still.
If this is an ongoing story there are probably 12 people in KCMO that really care.

My bad by two weeks. Still no signs of any crime, graft, greed or corruption.
Mark Edelman basically told you the same thing as he told the Star. My point was that with his connection to KCC you’d think he’d peel the onion back some more.
If you would have scribed this a day or two after the original with a Paul Harvey, “now here’s the REST of the story” take it might be more credible.
Not really sensing any KILLER INSTINCT.

I guess so, since they are one and the same person! Nothing like having an alter ego stick up for you.
And lest the two of him confuse the issue: Robert Trussell of the Star reported four years ago that McGaskey said it came down to the money BAA bid not their perceived clout. BAA bid significantly more than Theater League. When the city puts out RFPs – requests for proposal – that’s the way these things are decided. Not based on the side chatter about what one company may or may not also bring to the table.
Edelman tried like heck to the bitter end to appeal to the city with his side chatter. Guess what? Didn’t work. He got outbid.
Now trussell is going back in time to make it sound like the side chatter was what gave BAA the exclusive edge four years ago and now they’re not delivering.
That’s not, nor was it ever the case. KC didn’t get Lion King and other big shows because the stage was too small, etc. That was already cured by the time the bid went BAA’s way. Edelman also pointed out in the KCC interview that BAA wasn’t letting KC down – we’re getting what we get based on other factors.
