Glazer: Pointless Shawnee Gun Battle Reminds Scribe of Shootouts Past

glazerunfilteredHearne gave us some well thought out insight into the shootout in Shawnee…

The one at the gun store now to be known as the  O.K. Corral.

THE QUESTION BEING, When you have a weapon available and are being robbed at gunpoint, should you shoot at the bad guys?

The answer usually is no.

However it can depend on the situation and YOU. Have you had any training and what do you have inside in the way of intestinal fortitude? You also have to consider the perpetrators situation. The way he or they are acting. Does it seem like they want to kill you even if you cooperate?

At this point, we don’t know the details of the slain gun store owner situation.

When I was younger I lived in a very violent world.

sukiyaki_western_django_5Most readers here know something about my life through media reports and my book, THE KING OF STING.

When I lived in Arizona back in the 1970’s as an adult teen, I was co head of a crew that stung and robbed drug dealers, first in Arizona and later around the nation. My crew grew to 11 well-trained men, most former military.

But after a couple years in the sting biz, many of my crew had been killed.

There were several situations where we had to fire our weapons, however we never wanted to shoot anyone or to attract that kind of heat. Our victims were usually Mexican organized drug units and we attacked them through my partner, Don Woodbeck‘s connections.

These were very dangerous times.

The one thing I can assure you of from all of those experiences is this; you never know what the hell you are going to do until it happens.

Yes, training is a factor, but not just taking target practice at some gun range.

We went into the desert using cactus as targets to get used to shooting at a humans. One of us would stand by the target and face the other, then we’d draw and fire at the targets to get used to how it feels to shoot at someone.

Not exactly police training.

In the biggest fight I was ever in, my guys were with me in a storage locker full of weed that we had taken from one of the bigger groups. They’d agreed to buy it back at a price.

Instead they surrounded the storage house and opened fire on us.

We were in a fenced yard and one of them drove through the fence and opened fire from his car. Woodbeck was out front and in the line of fire and me and two others had to open fire from inside the storage house, then move out to get clear so we could return fire.

It was dark and it was a bad situation.

keep-calm-and-keep-it-in-your-pants-1It was then that I realized that you either had it in you or you didn’t.

I remember being reasonably calm, getting out of the warehouse, kneeling and returning fire. Don got hit in the leg but continued to fire back from his position in the yard. The firefight lasted maybe a couple minutes. In real life they aren’t usually long like in movies. We all wanted to live and we didn’t want the cops coming in and making things worse.

All of my guys survived, a couple of theirs were hit – I don’t know what became of them. The police arrived pretty quickly, so we got out. We did get the show money, but lost all of the weed to the DPS.

This is not the same situation as Shawnee gun store.

But my point is, if you have an actual background in this type of lifestyle you have a better chance. Even then, all the training in the world won’t save you if things don’t go your way. Sometimes the toughest guys won’t fire, they just don’t have it in them. And there are those who take to this type of combat, they don’t look dangerous but they are.

Woodbeck later broke one of our rules of training – cuffing the bad guys hands behind them, not in front. He got lazy and in a hurry and cuffed a gunman to a bike rack in his bedroom. The gunman had an M-1 under his bed near the rack. As Don and his partner left left, the gunman shot them both in the back and killed them.

This happened in Redondo Beach, California in 1983 – I never got over it and think about it all the time.

gunfight_at_the_ok_corralI agree with Hearne, when someone has a gun on you to rob you, it’s usually best to just give them the goods – even if you have a weapon.

Like Don used to say, “It don’t matter if you have a bazooka under your shirt, whoever gets that gun to the head first wins.”

And that’s a fact.

“In the biggest fight I was ever in, my guys were with me in a storage locker full of weed that we had taken from one of the bigger groups. They’d agreed to buy it back at a price.”

Yeah, what could possibly go wrong in a situation where you steal weed from an organization and then ask them if they want to buy it back? Were your collective brains totally fried at this point where this was ever a good plan?

  2. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Kudos for having the guts to run a picture of the Prophet Muhammad. Oh wait, that’s Glaze. My bad.

  3. hahhararley says:

you sure you didn’t run with barney fife? seems like the gang that couldn’t
    shoot straight…or couldn’t “think” straight.
YOu tell guys who you stole weed from where the weed is and to come
and pay to get it back? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
no wonder your football bets were so bad!

  4. CrazyChris says:

rubbish glaze. If he had given in thats fine. i wouldn’t criticize him one bit. But i sure as hell won’t criticize the man for defending himself.

if bieker were a cop would you sing a different tune? i asked christoper the same question. you expect a PRIVATE citizen to show more restraint the the LEO’s?? get real. these criminals are no victims and i have seen no evidence that bieker was a criminal. people are more than welcome to back down. And they are no less of a “man” if they do. But Americans also have the right to defend themselves.

    • CG says:

Hey I’m not down on the guy. He made his choice and other than getting shot and killed did a good job, he hit all three. But they killed him. Maybe he saved his wife’s life. So if so, he did the right thing. He was brave.

      • admin says:

        Hold it, Craig…

Other than getting shot and killed he did a good job?

I guess, other than speeding ridiculously, totaling out the Porsche and burning to death, Paul Walker and his race car driving pal did a pretty good job, as well.

  5. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

    Good entry. Enjoyed reading it.

  6. CG says:

Well can always count on Harley to give us the real story. Barney Fiffe. Yep in my hundreds of interviews and more on tv/radio they all thought that. My bad.

  7. CG says:

I wasn’t saying this is the way to do things. Giving an example of how these situations can go wrong. That’s all. We were trained, still had bad things happen. The more you play with guns…well you know the rest.

  8. Jeffrey Heavin says:

Oh Yeah ! Marijuana-related shootouts ! It was just like the end of “Scarface”, right ? “OK, guys, we go in, spray the place with bullets, locate the quarter-ounce brick, then run, got it ?” Sure, that’s how it happened. Gosh, the seventies were just so “RAD”!

  9. Wrf&@.tidbit.c says:

    70’s I think this is 90’s!!! Duh

  10. Super Dave says:

Bieker was more a man than Glazer will ever be. Glazer weaves a story trying to make us believe he was a bad ass in a shooting once but he can’t prove any of it. Woodbeck is probably dead because Glazer like Hearne would rather run than try and protect friends or family. Bieker proved what he was made of. Yes it cost him his life but his wife is alive today and four thugs who was just like Glazer use to be are sitting in jail on murder charges.

    • CG says:

Super Dave, like Smartman, who never showed to face me, you are a wannabe. I don’t have to prove anything its all in the history books now from several writers, cops and media as to who, what, where and when. The facts from law enforcement from Arizona and Feds show over 30 stings. They have many on the stand folks who were more than happy to give their versions. P.S. none of them said anyone ran from anything pal.

It’s offensive to keep seeing comments from trolls like this who know nothing, read less and are just haters for no reason. Again a book which fact checks for legal reasons, 1000’s of media stories, on and on and you still get these guys. It proves that player haters will always be out there no matter what.

      • CG says:

Until I starting writing on these websites/blogs, I never heard the word ‘snitch’ or ‘ran’ or ‘this is b.s’ never EVER. Nobody called into radio or tv with this kind of hate. IT’s a kinda new thing. The simple fact is had any of this been even a maybe the news media would have gone after it hard. Because all this happened. We were front page news, NBC Today Show news, ET news I think they might have found something, huh? Never happened cause none of that ever happened.

It was a dangerous, insane ride and I walked a thin line, sometimes my judgement was wrong. However I lived, others died and it was an interesting part of history in that era. Without any doubt my partner and I were the ‘Butch and Sundance’ of that couple decades. I always liked that, but I regret the violence.

    • CG says:

PS, troll superdave moron. I know you don’t know cause you don’t care. All in court records. All this was discussed in my trials. Including shootouts pal. You just write from a place with hate. Again given a chance to face me you wouldn’t and couldn’t. You are a punk. You always have been. I’ve seen your photo an out of shape old guy. THERE ISN’T ANYWAY YOU’D EVER SAY ANY OF THIS TO ME IN PERSON. EVER. So you are full of you know what. As far as store owner being killed I’m sorry brave man. Is he braver than me? Who knows. He’s not alive to discuss it, is he? Sad. I never attacked him, but I am you. You only come out of your hole to hate.

  11. Super Dave says:

The Liar says, “But after a couple years in the sting biz, many of my crew had been killed.
There were several situations where we had to fire our weapons, however we never wanted to shoot anyone or to attract that kind of heat.”

Where are all the court records that backs that up? There isn’t any, you was nothing but a common criminal the same as those four who walked into that gun shop you just never was caught. But writing a book and being on some radio and TV shows does not clear you of any of those crimes you committed. The only way you wasn’t a criminal is if it’s all bullshit and none of it happened as you like to say it happened. You have been proven a liar way to many times and for those reasons many people and I mean many don’t trust what you say or give it any credibility. That you have done all by yourself and have nobody to blame but yourself.
The only court records I have seen that reflect the truth is this one by U.S. District Judge William Keller. Judge William Keller said he found Craig Glazer to be “deeply enmeshed in drug traffic,” rather than being the victim, as Glazer insisted. See that judge such as myself and many others see right through your lies. You stood in a court room under oath and said,”I am not and never have been a narcotics dealer.” But in this story you admit you was in a storage unit getting ready to sell some weed back to guys you claim to have stolen it from. Now that is an admission of being a dealer. You admit to shooting at people before you was a so called gold badge whatever. Don’t pull this vidillantie crap with me or anyone else you was nothing more than a harden criminal to lazy to earn a honest living. So you see Craig either way you look at it your one huge ass liar which a federal jury and a federal judge and even myself believe is without any doubt very true.

    • admin says:

      Seriously, SuperDave…

I know who you are from Paul Wilson, but you’re acting way ignorant here.

Go down to the Kansas City Public Library and access the clips from the Kansas City Star alone.

You’re making yourself look pretty stoopid here, wild man.

  12. Super Dave says:

Just FYI I used the follow article as references in the above comment, I just didn’t make it all up.

    http://articles.latimes.com/1985-04-16/news/mn-23268_1_drug-dealers

    • admin says:

That story barely scratches the surface of what was written and reported about Craig, Super Dave.

Even at that, it tends to support Craig’s claims more than it does support your suspicions.

MY friend Art Brisbane – the former publisher, editor and columnist at The Star wrote a number of stories about Craig back when all of this was going on.

Seriously, you couldn’t be anymore mistaken, and it wouldn’t take very much effort for you to educate yourself on this topic rather than embarrass yourself.

Want me to tell people who you are so you can stand fully behind your claims?

      • CCoop says:

        Now your showing your hypocrisy.

Your take on the KC Star regarding the coverage of Mr Beiker is critical to the point of knowing the square inches of page coverage. However when it comes to the defense of one of your boy’s they are the definitive source of information.

Let me guess during Glazer’s (your boy) years of glorious thievery and felony dealings you were at the Star. Therefore solidifying it as a legitimate source of all things Glazer. If for no reason than your very employment. And the very day you were shown the door it became the laughable media you panned not 2 days ago.

Now to the point of threatening a com mentor to “out” them. In fact your very mention of that and the hypocrisy above is EXACTLY why Glazer already knows SuperDave. Revealing Wilson as your source means your credibility and journalistic morality is as suspect as Glazer’s criminal past.

On the bonus side any story about anonymous haters (of which there have been several) can all be ignored because clearly your trolling your own commentors.

  13. CG says:

DAVE as Hearne points out you are an idiot. Even the article, which has many facts wrong, it was 1 million not 100 thousand on the money laundering, be that as it may…yes I was found guilty…the judge didn’t like me, I was a con man, I said I was the good guy on and on..one of thousands of stories on me, thousands…that’s a big number over several decades…it rivals Dillinger, James and the like…it does, if this were the 1940’s or so … I’d be a house hold name nationwide, its not so different America.

Nothing you show or point out backs up anything you said. You know little to nothing about me Dave. I don’t know you….you just hate. No reason, hate! You are the true troll out there.

What the readers here don’t know is kind Dave went to the trouble of going on Amazon.com and writing a one star review of my book, he clearly never read…he is a true hater and as jealous a man as there is out there. YOUR LIFE SUCKED WHY bother guys like me who did something with their lives. You may not agree with my choices but hell I made lots of noise, you didn’t. Not my fault. Grow up troll.

  14. CG says:

Hater Dave as Hearne points out many well respected writers have taken the time to do long stories on my life in the Kansas City Star, LA Times, NY Times, The Reader, The Pitch on and on…he’s named a few, including himself and Star Publisher Art Brisbane…Sal Manna, Paul Wenske and so many more …. as Hearne points out, people who spend that kind of time on stories check out the facts. Wenske did his story for the Star from LA. Hating someone like me for no reason make you a sick bird. I never said I was perfect. I was an ‘outlaw’ do the math. I was a lawman…and I was in prison. All facts. My life is unique. For the good and the bad. So listen, write it down and learn Dave.

    • Winona says:

Grandpa, tell me about the good ole days….

      • admin says:

        Now, now Winona…

The things I could tell you about just this past year where Craig is concerned would curl your teeth.

I don’t think he’s been in any gun battles lately, but he had a wild showdown in KCK a year or so and took out two dudes that were harassing him while he was driving the Lotus.

Craig is very much living in the present.

    • the dude says:

Yeah gramps, tell us about the time you conned the KBI into giving you a Junior G-Man badge and how that worked out for you…

      • CG says:

Well Dude I don’t have to tell it, the stories were covered by our newspaper for years, years. I think there is enough out there on my life to say its a part of our history here and in the ‘new west’ whats left of it. As for my age, brother when you can match me in anything let me know, women, adventure, show biz the list is long…my ears are open.

Hearne has covered my life mostly in KC for more than a decade plus…he had to look into my past records and history to do what he did so he knows the stories and the background. Dude here I thought we were doing better on here guess not..enjoy.

  15. CCoop says:

Well we know where Hearne sets on his stance for felons. Has yet to condemn the 4 criminals that murdered a Shawnee business man in any uncertain terms. And gives another one carte blanche access to “romanticize” criminal behavior. The absolute epitome of this story is 2 wrongs do not make a right. You serve up “justification” because your victims were criminals. In truth you were a thief just the same. And judging by your words here didn’t have the fortitude to do any of the heavy lifting seems Woodbeck was your minion. More Biekers and fewer Glazers and the world probably have fewer punks like these 4 P’sOS.

    • the dude says:

Coop- the glazed rug doesn’t care about what you or I think of him or the truth for that matter. He likes to think of himself of a modern day Robin Hood sans doing any good deeds for the oppressed.

    • admin says:

You are quite the nagger, CCoop…

OK honey, the bad guys never should have robbed that store. That was terribl – obviously.

      Happy now?

      • CCoop says:

        No not happy.
Your “condescending” remark reinforces your contempt for people defending themselves against criminals who seek to do bodily harm up to an including death.

No tolerance for people with dissenting opinions so much for un-biased journalism.

  16. CG says:

WHO ROBS A GUNSTORE, THE OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES WEAR GUNS…shouldn’t they have done a Quick Trip.

As far as the continues Craig Glazer haters and jealous little shmo’s…lets see now the attack is ‘I’m grandpa’ I see….uh have you seen who I date and I think I look pretty damn good, so do they. When you can get those kinda babes give me a buzz and pssst..they are not all strippers….a new one is a former Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader…in her 20’s…thanks for asking…as for what I did or didn’t do…haters just buy the book or read it on kindle THE KING OF STING…oh just inked a new film deal on that LIFE STORY AND BOOK…thanks for your support.

‘The dogs bark and the caravan rolls on” I lived a unique life, nobody asked you to do what I did or try…but it was a hell of a ride, still riding…but no you can’t beat the clock, nobody does not even Clint.

    • the dude says:

      This really bothers you gramps?
Somebody piss in your Efferdent glass this morning?

      • CG says:

Must be yours don’t what that is..tell ya what ‘DUDE’ I can’t think of anything you could beat me at…women, fighting, you likely if you are in shape could outrun me, lets see thats’ about it.

        • the dude says:

          You wouldn’t catch me gramps!!
Your walker would get caught on a crack in the sidewalk and you would probably bust a hip!!

          • CG says:

Dude you live in a fantasy world pal, I ain’t that old, walker, what a shumck you are…maybe you use walkers and drink that shit, I don’t have a clue…I drive a Lotus, work out with weights five days a week, bench nearly 300, my women are 9’s and you? A nothing….keep dreaming son…keep dreaming.. the dogs bark and the caravan moves on end of story. Bye.

          • the dude says:

            Sure thing gramps!!
Just be sure to put a little extra glue on your rug so it doesn’t fly off when you try and catch me!!
Oil those wheels on that walker extra good!

“Craig Glazer, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio” LOL.

KCStar – 3 mentions in articles about comics appearing at his dads club.

    hmmmmm

    • CG says:

WTF… the Star did several stories on me and the club this past year, cover of Pitch last July 4th week and lets see more than 1000 articles over the years. Easy…nobody had more except in sports with stats…of course as the Star has downsized and doesn’t do updates on local names unless they die or get arrested lately its thinner for everyone…Hearne did hundreds on me as did Jeff Flannigan, FYI all gone now, FYI doesn’t cover people of interest like they used too. Buy you already know this…today its social media lord knows I’m in that enough and still on radio three of four days a week…I think I’m pretty much still covered but no the Star is done as an entertainment source on peoples comings and going…again as a true hater and you are you already knew all this…didn’t ya…you sneaky little troll.

  19. Wrf&@.tidbit.c says:

Wow!!! Is a true story at least for me!!! I was able to make the full circle of life with weights. Still have plenty left and I will take grandpa cheerleader and lotus and money!!! All my women have at least from my eyes have been 10000000000000000

  20. CG says:

In conclusion you have a story by me about my past ‘historic factual’ exploits and instead of many enjoying it as it relates to Shawnee Gun Shop..all you can do is try and find a way to attack the writer, me. It’s done for two main reasons. The belief by the attacker that wow this guy thinks he’s hot stuff and his life says he is…I don’t know him but I’d like to find a way to put him down, I’m offended cause I didn’t do any of that in my life…why does he get too?

Second, its an amazing life story. I know that, I lived it. Other than my social life today and working hard to make our comedy club the best in America, the rest of its behind me…Hey I miss it too…Yep I’m not a young guy anymore to attack age here is really stupid we all get older, some of us, not many, and I am one, stay in the game…and stay hard…we see that with some film stars , media folks and music stars mostly…then there are those regular people who work hard to look good, stay young and in the game of life…I hope many of you are those guys…not these trolls. I have seen a couple of their photos like Super Dave a groundskeeper at a gold club…wow his life went well huh, he looks like the guy who asks for change on the Plaza with a sign that says “Help me out I’m a Vet”…so of course men like me offend people like him.

There is not much I can do for the haters, they just hate, no reason, except one and only one! They mostly hate themselves for doing not too much with their lives, seeings someone who did and does hurts their feelings. That haters is not my fault its yours. The Craig Glazer story is about one of guts, guile, adventure and a man who just wouldn’t give in or give up. The facts prove all that out. Not perfect, made mistakes, went to prison and should have, but kept his head up, and in the end was on top because he spent his life standing up for himself. Try it trolls.

    • CCoop says:

Hearne must feel like a real big man to foster a testosterone fueled felon’s visions of grandeur to pimp his criminal legacy. (Glazer) While being so pure to stand in judgement of a man that showed more courage than either of you are capable. Law abiding citizen being second guessed by a criminal. Narcissists enjoying each others company how touching.

The only one impressed by your passed is yourself and Hearne. Being published doesn’t make you worthy of forgiveness, affirm your actions or elevate you to some level of credibility. Even Hitler had a book.
