Tom Becka; just passing through

Fast talking former Kansas City talk show host Tom Becka weighed in while passing through town on his way back from the All Star Game in St Louis…hearne

“I got mentioned in the St. Louis Post Dispatch,” Becka says. “Because I was at the Nelly concert.”

Big time hold it right there! Tom Becka at a rap riot? No way!

“I’m a lot hipper than you think!” Becka counters “But it wasn’t actually a Nelly concert. It was a VIP party that he performed at with Chuck Berry after the Home Run Derby. But I’ve been getting a lot of publicity lately – I’m going to be in the National Enquirer.”

Here we go again…

Lost weekend with Paris Hilton while she was passing through Omaha?

“No, I’m just quoted in a story,” Becka explains.

In a nutshell, it has to do with 37 year-old Gary Staton, a single father with nine kids who made national news when he dropped them all off at an Omaha hospital. Later Staton announced that his girlfriend was pregnant with twins because – according to Becka – he couldn’t afford a vasectomy.

“So I found a doctor that would do his vasectomy for free,” Becka says.

Uh, stay tuned. Btw, Tom currently hosts an afternoon drive talk radio show in Omaha on KFAB Continue reading

Mancow, Lawyer Call Out KMBZ 980 AM Host Darla Jaye

hearne

No more Mr. Nicey Nice…

Kansas City radio export Erich Mancow Muller has taken off the gloves and retained an attorney to get KMBZ 980 AM evening host Darla Jaye’s full and undivided attention.

“I want her to admit that she was lying about Jerry Agar,” Mancow says. “Agar came to me and was really, really hateful to me in the hall and I said, ‘What’s your problem?’ And he said, ‘Well, you took my job.’ I didn’t take his job, they got rid of him because he wasn’t any good. He was a bore and he wasn’t getting through to Chicago.”

Mancow replaced Agar – who left KMBZ’s afternoon drive slot here a couple years back for WLS in Chicago – last October.

Here’s how the Jaye bird fits in to this soap opera… Continue reading

Waterboarded Mancow Weighs in on Torture, Keith Olbermann, Sean Hannity

hearne

It’s official: Kansas City export Erich Mancow Muller is back on top…

Two years ago the Chicago-based, syndicated radio shock jock-turned-issue oriented talk show host took a major hit. Dropped by his Windy City home base and off local airwaves there for better than a year found him in a rough patch.

Now erase, erase…

Because last fall Mancow mounted a historic comeback on Chicago superstation WLS and he’s been kicking butt and taking names ever since.

Which brings us to last Friday when a skeptical Mancow submitted to an on-air waterboarding.

Not a mere stunt, mind you – this was the real deal.

“When I was living in Raytown there was a deep part of the river down there and I went in the water and I drowned,” Mancow says. “And some construction workers pulled me out and I had to be revived. So as a man who has drowned, I have a unique perspective.” Continue reading

Hearne on the Street: Cassel’s Castle, Miller’s Misery and Funk’s Funeral

Jack

Mysterious Loch LLoyd Country Club waiter blogs aside, is new Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel living large in a mansion on community’s so-called “Street of Dreams”?

Most indubitably, sources say.

Former Chiefs coach Herm Edwards also resides in the upscale, gated community. However Loch Lloyd homeowners association president Terry Reardon would neither confirm nor deny either’s presence.

Reardon did however note that unlike most other quote/unquote “gated communities” in the area, Loch Lloyd truly does offer the 24/7 gated security that celebs like Cassel and Edwards might require.

What’s more, golf great Tom Watson has newly begun a redesign for nine of the development’s 18 hole golf course, and is adding on nine more hole – for a total of 27 – which will be accompanied by another 225 homes.

The $64 million question: will Cassel and his smoking hot, 27 year-old volleyball star wife Lauren Killian become the talk of the town? Bank on it if the Chiefs offensive line holds up.

Peace, love and happiness alert

Word that longtime local radio bad boy Randy Miller may resurface on WGN Radio 720 in Chicago from 9 a.m. to noon, raises the prospect of Miller finding himself in a life-or-death ratings struggle with his former assistant-turned mortal enemy Erich Mancow Muller. Muller knocked off former KMBZ 980 host Jerry Agar in Chicago last year and now broadcasts on legendary signal WLS 890 AM. Continue reading

Mancow to Agar, Darla Jaye: Shut Your Pie Holes!

hearne

Enough already…

Kansas City radio export Erich Mancow Muller has had about enough of the rumor being floated here since he took over former 980 KMBZ host Jerry Agar’s slot on Chicago superstation WLS 890 AM last year.

“How about the truth?!” emailed 980 KMBZ host Darla Jaye last November after I reported the change in the Star. “Hey H., if you  had done some actual research or investigating…it would have been easy to find out the TRUTH.”

Jaye’s version of the “truth”?

“Mancow didn’t TOPPLE Jerry Agar,” Jaye wrote. “He is BUYING that time slot! Jerry earned the spot on WLS, and Mancow PURCHASED it! Why don’t you write about that, Hearne?”

Consider it done…

“That’s just not true,” Mancow says of Jaye’s accusation. “if I was paying for it, I would tell you. (WLS) offered me money and we signed a multi-year deal.”

While Agar’s ratings were decent, good even, “I’ve had a name in Chicago since 1994 and I just had my highest ratings ever,” Mancow says. “They pay me, I don’t pay people to do my show – it’s a joke – it’s ludicrous. It’s a lie, and by the way I confronted (Jerry) in the hall and he said he never said that. He still does fill-in work for WLS. Since I took over for Jerry Agar the ratings are up 135 percent.”

Thrilla in Vanilla: Miller vs Muller, the Final Chapter?

hearne

This just in, from Stanford & Sons main man Craig Glazer

That fabled Kansas City radio riotmaster Randy Miller – whose on-air antics during the 80s, 90s and early 2000s are the stuff of legend – may be poised to return to the airwaves.

However not in the Cowtown.

“I was told that the big news was Randy Miller would be on the air middays in Chicago going up against Mancow,” Glazer says. “That it’s a firm deal and he’s starting May 1st. So he’s up – batter up!”

If true, it would go down on Chicago talk station WGN 720 Radio where Miller has appeared as a guest DJ. If he goes up against former protege Mancow, Miller would slot in from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in a spot currently nailed down by a rather vanilla-sounding Kathy and Judy show. Kathy and Judy are currently conducting a – yawn – “Become Your Best Britney” contest. Continue reading
