K.C. Strip Trolley Debut Delayed: 103 Year-old Grandma to Christen

Talk about dodging the St. Patrick’s Day Bullet…

Turns out Bill George and Bill Nigro’s weekend nights trolley transports – aka the K.C. Strip – won’t be debuting March 5th after all.

“It got moved to March 19th,” Nigro says. “We just have too much to do and we need everything to be perfect.”

A fleet of trolley busses – complete with removable side panels for warm weather wanderlust – will transport locals from bars and restaurants from downtown to Waldo and party points in between.

The transports will operate from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights at a per diem cost of $15. A summer long pass will be available to members of  - what tongue-in-cheek will be called – the K.C. Strip Club. For the record, no actual strip clubs are included on the route.

Look for a sendup ceremony to go down shortly before the trolleys embark.

I hope the mayor will be there and I hope the city council will be there,” Nigro says. “And I hope my 103 year-old grandmother, Margaret Giblin, will be there to christen the first buss with a bottle of beer. She comes from a long line of brewmasters. Her brother was the brewmaster for Pabst in the ’60s and ’70s. And her son is the head brewmaster for Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis and there’s a possibility that he will be here to christen the busses as well. And it’s my hope that Boulevard Brewing’s John McDonald will come down and break a bottle of Boulevard on the first bus.”

One highlight of the DUI-dodging tours is that riders will be treated to wacky local trivia and history lessons by trolley drivers as they crisscross the city.

“I want to solicit funny stories of things that happened in Kansas City that had to do with rinking and entertainment, so our drivers can tell riders about fun Kansas City events.”
