Daisy Bucket (almost) Doubles Her Aids Walk Kansas City Goal

ron

Daisy Bucket (pronounced bouquet), Kansas City hostess and entertainer, and her “Team Bucket”, are well on their way to doubling their $4000 goal as they raise funds for Aids Walk Kansas City.

After doubling her $2000 goal last year, Daisy set the bar high this year, hoping to raise $4000.  Now, as of this writing, they have pushed past $7000 in donations, and are well on their way to doubling the amount again!

The walk takes place this Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. in Theis Park – Kansas City, MO.

Come out and support this great event.  All of the funds raised stay in our community to help our friends and neighbors struggling with HIV/AIDS.

Go Team Bucket!

Coterie Theatre’s “Witches” To Open This Weekend

ron

Roald Dahl, writer of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and many others, created some of the most lasting, magnetic, often terrifying characters for children.

See his work come to full and vibrant life at Coterie Theatre’s production of his classic, The Witches.  Running this weekend through May 17th, director Missy Koonce has infused her production with puppets, magic, and an off-kilter sensibility true to Dahl’s original work.

Young actor Cooper J. Scott leads a cast of talented Kansas City actors through this fast-paced romp.

For specific dates and times, visit www.coterietheatre.org.

Free question and answer sessions about the show and “how it’s done” will take place after the 2 p.m. performances April 18 and 19.

Dinner, a Show, Maybe Some Pole Dancing…

ron

The theme of this weekend seems to be “hanging on“…silks, poles, whatever is bolted firmly into the ceiling.

We had a great time at the premier of the Clean House at the Unicorn Theatre Friday night, then moved our opening-night revelers to Side Street Bar, where Ron taught the bartender to make our new favorite apertif-the Poisoned Apple. It’s a shot of Apple Puckers with a dash of Tabasco.  Sounds awful-tastes wonderful!  We passed them around to fellow revelers including actor Matt Weiss, actor Vanessa Severo, designers David Diaz and Jason Coale, as well as a few surprised patrons that just wanted a quiet evening in the dark basement of their favorite watering hole.  Sorry, guys.

From there, it was on to Missie B’s where Vanessa Severo showed off her pole dancing expertise.  I see a huge career in pole dancing for her, but, judging from her outstanding performance onstage this evening at the Unicorn, her acting career is rather fantastic now, so we’ll just consider her “mad pole skills” a fun hobby. A BRIGHT SPOT in POSSUM TROT

ron

One often asks us (us being Jon and I, the one, a random person…we’ll call her “Betty”)

“Is the social scene in Kansas City dead?  Has Cowtown finally fallen into a tan abyss of non-creative events?  Has the khaki world that sucked dry such cities as New York, Chicago, and Peducah, Kentucky, engulfed our fair-wheatened shores?”

Jon and I are quick to answer “No Betty, no!  Our city still has a pulse, and we can prove it!  Why, just last week we attended six, yes we said six, events.  All unique.  All feeding the heart of Kansas City.  And we will now list them, complete with photographic documentation.”

Faster, Pussycat

Event Two:  Now this next one is true conflict of interest, but you are reading this online, so screw it.  The opening of the Coterie Theatre’s production of THE BREAKFAST CLUB.
