Glazer: The Scribe’s ‘Super Bowl for Dummies’

For years Hearne had the best Super Bowl party in town…

No mas.

Everyone who was anyone was there – from the Mayor of KC to the editor and publisher of the Star to me. They were classic. Only a few people like me actually watched the game – most folks ate, drank and talked. That’s how those parties go.

Those of us who enjoy sports are blessed again this year to have the pleasure of watching the greatest quarterback of all time play in yet another world championship, No 8.

Too many people hate the New England Patriots because they always win and are the New York Yankees of the 2000’s.

Those damn Yankees.

And Tom Brady is the Pat’s Babe Ruth, the best who ever lived.

I can’t help but pull for Brady, his likeness may never come again.

True Aaron Rodgers is perhaps more talented, but Brady has 8 Super Bowls to Rodgers one…end of story.

Both the Eagles and the Patriots are outstanding teams with boatloads of stars for sure.

The Pats are a 4 point favorite, as they should be. Many feel its time for the Patriot Dynasty to end. As for me, I love it, wish we in KC could feel like those fans do today.

So embrace the glory of Tom Brady and coachΒ Bill Bellichick ‘s greatness. It may never come again, not like this.

I see it this way: Patriots 28 Eagles 17.

I just can’t see Nick Foles our former back up and a failed one here beating out the GOAT.

    Kerouac nails another!

“the greatest quarterback of all time”

    – too funny, CG… tell us some more fairy tales, will ya? πŸ˜€

    * ‘Tammy’, aka ‘Shady’, aka ‘Bogus brady’ ‘two-yard tom’, aka ‘tom thumb in his bum’ – now at the top with the LOSING-EST QB’s ‘all-time’ Championship history – tied at 3 losses with Fran Tarkenton, right up there with Jim Kelly’s 4.

    * The ‘Cheatriot Over-hype’ has now lost 3 x as many Championship Games as Starr

    * All-time winning % Championship Games: Starr .833 ~ brady .625

    * Superbowls: Starr 2-0 1.000 ~ brady 5-3 .625 /
    Overall: Starr 5-1 .833 (includes Championships pre-Superbowl)

    * Most losses in the Championship Game modern era: ‘cheatin pat’s’ 5 ties DEN

    * cheatin pat’s’ now a sub-par .500 record all-time in Championship Games – same # of losses 5 as wins – comparison, Green Bay Packers have won 13 all-time

    * Superbowls: Lombardi 2-0 ~ belicheat 5-3 .625
    Overall: Lombardi 5-1 .833 (includes Championships pre-Superbowl)

Any questions? No, didn’t think so.

When does fraudroyals baseball begin? And the next ‘this is our year’ swiss chiefs?

Much more Kerouac to come in tomorrow’s KCC!

    LOSER….LOSER…..LOSER…..LOSER…..LOSER…..LOSER…
YOUR STREAK CONTINUES….YOU PICK A TEAM TO WIN AND THEY LOSE.
    HOW GOOD IS THAT?
SERIOUSLY NOT HATING BUT IN TERMS OF BETTING YOU’RE A JINX.
IT’S BEEN THAT WAY FOR YEARS NOW.
YOU MAY KNOW THE BEST CLUBS AND HOTTIES IN THIS MECCA BUT YOU
    KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL.
AND DON’T USE YOUR USUAL REBUTTAL OF BEING A HATER.
YOU PUT YOUR NAME ON THE BYLINE SO YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE HEAT WHEN YOU’RE WRONG.
NICK FOLES? ARE YOU SEERIOUS….SUPER BOWL MVP? AM I DREAMING?
I SAW HIM AT A CHIEFS FUNCTION AND THOUGHT HE WAS A WAITER!!!!!!!
WELL SHOWS THAT EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY.
CONGRATS TO THE GUY FOR STICKING IT OUT. GOD HAS A PLAN FOR ALL OF
    US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • CG says:

Funny Boom, Harley, I had the Pats last year and I think they won, huh.

      • Boom Boom says:

easy to pick the pats…but so did a lot of other people.
        You’re still a jinx glazo.
Waiting for the story fromyou where you finally admit
you’re going to stop writing about sports….finished.
Let k write his statistical b.s…..instead of your know nothing
sports stories even though k in running worse than you in
        predictions.

  3. Always Been Here says:

When it comes to sports picks you are the BLOAT…Biggest Loser Of All Time. But you sir, are consistent. I have to give you that.

  4. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

    Aaaaaand another gambling pick flameout.

Not only did “our former back up and a failed one here beat(ing) out the GOAT”, Nick Foles was Super Bowl MVP.

    Utterly hilarious!

  5. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Ouch. Hope that didn’t cost you too much.

Foles was fantastic. The game was entertaining as hell, too.

Like everyone else, I thought Brady was going to do what Brady does in the last two minutes. Nope. That fumble was beautiful.

Moving on to the boys in blue………

  6. Kerouac says:

😎 Kerouac top o’ the mornin’ Kup

Not just a river in Egypt: are more “yeah buts!” being shouted this mo(u)rn Boston/ Foxboro than at the Foxy Lady strip club. Clam chowder central, Cheatriot fans the throes ‘no way’ mode – “still best team ever, still best Coach ever, still best QB ever, still…” a long ways to go, catch up with the Green Bay Packers, Lombardi and Starr (better team, better Coach, better QB… and the record book shall as ever, decide.)

Foles – the great UNDERhype. The former backup QB swiss KC, not good enough to retain, not good enough beat out Alex ‘He Gone’ Smith, not good enough to start for PHIL shy injury their starter, not good enough hang with the great OVERhype brady. So much for subjective opinions: PHIL 41 cheatriots 33 ~ Fly Eagles Fly! the summit football, World Champions.

  7. Kerouac says:

Stats don’t matter (unless, they do) – are for losers (unless, are not.) Wins and losses, percentage of success/failure said, passer rating this, that, the other – the undeniable remains: can’t have it both ways: whatever era, whatever criteria, beyond ‘result’, it’s all opinion.

Final analysis, they don’t give ‘Lombardi’ the next best team scoreboard, MVP second best QB, biggest loser accolade record book any one other the most deserving: ‘results alone’ are not subject the subjective, ‘opinion’.

PHIL’s first World Championship since 1960 in the books, another buffer ‘tween worst team in pro football and KC eliminated. DET 1957, NYJ 1968 & KC 1969 now laughing stocks of longest duration NFL.

Expansion teams came aft, SD went Superbowl 1994 to augment their 1963 World Championship, CLEV became Champs aft moving to BALT, new name the Ravens, augment Browns 1964 World Championship. So, the silliest of the silly today NFL: biggest losers – swiss chiefs, Jets and Lions, ay caramba.

    πŸ˜›

  8. Kerouac says:

Most Championships won, team: Green Bay Packers 13

    Most Championships won, QB’s:

Otto Graham 7 (in 10 games), Browns
Bart Starr 5 (in 6 games), Packers
Tom Brady 5 (in 8 games), Patriots
Terry Bradshaw 4 (in 4 games), Steelers
    Joe Montana 4 (in 4 games), 49ers
Sid Luckman 4 (in 5 games) , Bears
Troy Aikman 3 (in 3 games), Cowboys
Johnny Unitas 3 (in 4 games), Colts

Championship Game/Superbowl QB’s winning % (all of those listed below ‘better’ record than ‘Bogus Brady officially recognized pro football Championship results )

Starr, Luckman, Unitas, Graham, Dawson, Bradshaw, Montana, Namath, McMahon, E. Manning, Plunkett, Griese, Stabler, Roethlisberger & Foles (these 15 QB’s proven better via their results.)

And this bit of ‘believe it or not, is true’ trivia: Otto Graham led his CLEV teams to ten/10 STRAIGHT Championship Game appearances – unmatched in pro football history, his 7 wins in those 10 games also the most though his winning % trails an couple other QB’s Starr and Luckman, among those QB’s who played in 5 or more Championship Games.) Graham also retains to this day the best winning % in the regular season and best yards per pass attempt average too, NFL history.)

Now, some subjective opinion: margin of victory and loss: Kerouac as anyone who watched recent NE Championship Game/Superbowl results vs SEAT and ATL are hard pressed to claim both were not osses for the Patriots in lieu wins, hindsight.

Seahawks and Falcons caused their own demise via the inexplicable SEAT (goal line pass in lieu run) & restraint ATL (going into an shell offensively unlike PHIL Eagles yesterday.) Upshot – Patriots/Brady are as close being 3-5 in Championship Games / Superbowls as they are being 5-3. All considered, Patriots, Belichick & Brady remain the most over-rated, over-hyped team/coach/qb football history, albeit the greatest rule manipulators/rule benders & breakers ever.

That the Trophy name remains ‘Lombardi and not ‘Beli’, Championships the number 13 Green Bay to 5 New England, Championships won QB Starr 5 in 6 .833 (including 3 in a row – unmatched) to Brady’s but 5 in 8 tries .625, does not beg, rather answers question ‘who is best ever’: Packers, Lombardi and Starr… case closed.

    😎

  9. Jack Springer says:

    Wrong again — as usual.

This guy couldn’t predict how much change he’s get back from a $10 bill after buying a $5 hamburger.

I suggest you take up quilting.

  10. Jack Springer says:

Congratulations to Nick Foles. All we have is an unproven one game guy that the Chiefs are betting everything on.

  11. E.H. says:

Brady played a great game with over 500 yards in passing with his #1 WR knocked out. Funny, all of Brady’s Super Bowls have been decided by 3 or 4 pts, except last years OT win vs. Atlanta. In the end Brady couldn’t overcome his own teams horrible defense.
Nick Foles can now write his own ticket!

  12. Kerouac says:

~ ‘Bogus Brady’ summarized, merits and demerits ~

Q: Is he best at anything of note?
    A: Not really

    Most Championships won:
A: Behind Otto Graham 7 in 10 tries, and Bart Starr 5 in 6 (Brady 5 in 8 tries)

    Best winning % Championship Games:
A: Behind ‘many’ QB’s (among his betters Starr, Graham, Bradshaw and Montana)

Has he played longer/more chances than most every great QB history:
    A: Yes ~ Brady has played 18 years – Graham 10, Starr 16, Bradshaw 14, Montana 15, Luckman 12, Unitas 18, Peyton Manning 17, Drew Brees 17 and Brett Favre 20

Statistics – is he the greatest/does he lead in any the most notable QB categories?
    A: No ~

Example, passing yards per attempt he is ‘tied’ for 25th all-time with 10 other QB’s –
No way?!? Way. The ‘Two yard Tom’ way (likewise, why his ‘net yards’ per passing attempt ranks him but 13th all-time.)

    Other:
    * Passing completion % he is ‘tied’ for 13th all-time
    * Passing yards per game he is 6th all-time
    * Passing yards he is 4th all-time behind Manning, Favre and Brees
    * Passer tds he is 3rd all-time behind Manning and Favre
    * Passer rating he is 3rd all-time behind Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson
    _________

Is he ‘greatest’ at anything? In general no, compared his betters… but a couple of stat categories are worth noting… NEXT

  13. Kerouac says:

    PAGE 2

The only stat of consequence Brady excels in compared to QB peers: low interception per pass attempt ratio. He’s tied for 2nd all-time with (what the ….) Colin Kaepernick, and behind the all-time greatest the category, Aaron Rodgers

Brady’s supposed ‘bailiwick’ 4th quarter comebacks, he trails all-time greatest Peyton Manning, ranking just ahead Johnny Unitas and Dan Marino tied for 3rd, John Elway 5th and Joe Montana 7th; Ben Roethlisberger ranks 6th all-time
    __________

Perhaps if Brady becomes Methusaleh, will eventually outlive them all contention his / contentiousness others.

Age 41 come 2019 NFL season, by the time some/never other categories he manages to reach the top, due service time in lieu greatness, more so (‘how long’ you linger an player does not necessarily equate with remaining great ‘by default.’ Why an ‘meteor’ of sorts (Gale Sayers example) stands out what he was able accomplish despite fewer opportunities/years and playing on poor teams.

Though it might be claimed Brady looked great vs PHIL the Superbowl, it is also true can be argued he lost the game for them via his errors, a lost fumble, at least 3 passes which were interceptions for the taking PHIL, instead dropped (speaking of drops, he himself dropped a pass with no one around him and clear sailing ahead, as receiver.)

    Conclusion… NEXT

  14. Kerouac says:

    PAGE 3 / EPILOGUE

Upshot: all considered, while not quite the latter-day hanger on that Emmitt Smith became his pursuit the all-time NFL rushing yards summit (I know not one person outside DALL who considers Smith ‘the greatest RB ever’ despite ‘more ‘), Brady in essence become the Barry Bonds of his sport, time: running past the finish line of a race that his better(s) already won.

His 22 years, Bonds received almost 1,500 more opportunities (at bats) than Ruth in order pass him – by a mere 48 – home runs; that Bonds had 95 ‘less’ home runs in an similar # of at bats as Ruth, quite telling. In fact, Bonds needed 836 ‘extra at bats’ to even tie Ruth at 714 home runs. Shh, quiet – that doesn’t $ell advertising time media, desperate ‘over-hyping’ be modern day sports.

  15. Kerouac says:

STARR vs BRADY / All-time post season results

    STARR
    NFC Championship Games (4) / 6 td passes ~ 0 ints ~ 66.1% ~ W/L 4 – 0 .1000
    World Championship/Superbowl (6) / 8 td passes ~ 2 ints ~ 57.7% ~ W/L 5 – 1 .833

    BRADY
    AFC Championship Games (11) / 18 td passes ~ 14 ints ~ 60.8% ~W/L 8-3 .727
    World Championship/Superbowl (8) / 19 td passes ~ 6 ints ~ 65.5% ~ W/L 5 – 3 .625
    ___________

All-time post season games: Divisional, Conference and Championship/Superbowl

    STARR (10) games & 213 attempts / 15 td passes ~ 3 ints ~ 61.0% ~ 104.8 rating ~ W/L 9 – 1 ~ .900

    BRADY (37 games) & 1464 attempts / 71 td passes ~ 31 ints ~ 62.8% ~ 90.9 rating ~ W/L 27 – 10 ~ .730

    Brady – “UNCLE!”

    Starr – πŸ˜€

    😎

  16. CG says:

Thanks for all the after game advice…I just believed a kinda good team with a qb who could throw for over 500 yards, 3 td’s and no int’s was pretty good…my bad.

  17. John J says:

Correction. The people you mentioned that were at this superbowl party are Nobodys ona scale of human values.
