Glazer: Way Beyond Obvious What Chiefs Need to Do

Missouri lost Michael Porter, the No. 1 hot high school basketball pick this week…

Porter played like two minutes at MU before being injured and out for the season. He was considered a sure NBA pick for next year in the top 8. Now with his season-ending injury it’s likely he’ll never play college ball again and go straight to the NBA this upcoming season for millions of dollars.

You can’t blame him.

If he comes back to MU next season and gets hurt, it could mean no NBA draft and no money. That’s just too much to pass up. Tough blow for MU and its fan base. Porter likely would have led MU to being a ranked team and in the NCAA tournament.

On a brighter note, future NFL pick at quarterback, Missouri Tigers, Drew Lock, broke the SEC touchdown record throwing for 5 touchdowns in a win Friday over Arkansas. The Tigers defeated the Razorbacks, 48-45 in an exciting game that gives MU a bowl spot this season. It was Missouri’s sixth straight win and a surprise ending to what was an awful start. If Lock comes back next year to the Tigers, look out. MU will likely be a top ranked football team, perhaps Top 10.

In darker news, the Kansas City Chiefs now face a real chance of NOT winning the division title in the ultra weak west. KC is now 6-4 with 6 games remaining, all against mediocre teams.

The Chiefs are a hot mess with no offense, poor defense and real issues at both quarterback and running back.

The Chiefs can only seem to get field goals in the red zone these days and Kareem Hunt hasn’t scored a touchdown since the Royals were still playing in September. The biggest problem is the same as always late in the season, Alex Smith.

His confidence is in question. Smith no longer is effective with deep throws when he tries which is rare and just plain off his game. With the Los Angeles Chargers now the class of the division and standing at 5-6 with a game remaining at Kansas City, they have a real chance to take the division and leave the no longer deserving Chiefs at home for the playoffs. Kansas City is playing the Bills at home which should should have been an easy win, right?

Sorry, the Chiefs have no easy wins anymore.

The Bills have a solid ground game and our defense can’t stop the run.

Good football logic says this: START PAT MAHOMES NOW.

The reason is simple.

THE TEAM NEEDS ENERGY. AND MAHOMES HAS ALREADY SHOWN IN PRESEASON HE CAN PROVIDE THAT…REMEMBER HE PLAYED WITH THE SECOND AND THIRD STRING OFFENSE AND LOOKED GREAT…HE GOT MORE OUT OF OUR BACK UP RECEIVERS THAN ALEX HAS ALL SEASON.

Just think what he could do with Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt.

The defense might rise up around Mahomes as well, he is electric. He is stronger, faster, has a much bigger arm, shows accuracy on deep throws, can get out of trouble quicker: he is bigger and much younger.

HE IS OUR FUTURE. LET’S START IT NOW WHILE WE STILL HAVE A SEASON TO SAVE. HEY, IF HE ISN’T GREAT YOU CAN ALWAYS PUT THE JOURNEYMAN BACK IN. RIGHT NOW HE’S JUST SITTING ON THE BENCH. THERE IS NO RISK. HE MIGHT BE THE ANSWER. LET’S FIND OUT…WE KNOW ALEX IS NOT THE ANSWER…

The Alex Smith situation is about money.

The Chiefs need to trade him to dump that $17 million salary next year and perhaps get a couple draft picks we badly need. If KC benches Smith the buyers will say, “Hey, you didn’t even believe in him why should we at 1$7 million..how about $5 million and no draft picks?” t

That’s a fact, jack.

Remember the front office clearly was going to let this season go for the future with Pat but the Chiefs at 5-0 shocked them as well. So in a sense it’s a lost season.

Sorry fans, thats the way it looks…again

THERE IS NO FOOTBALL LOGIC IN NOT STARTING A PLAYER WHO COULD WELL BE EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS HOUSTON STAR WATSON..LESS THE BAD LEGS…THIS KID IS DYNOMITE…IT’S TIME TO FIND OUT….ANDY, I THINK, WOULD DO IT, BUT CLARK HUNT WON’T…’IT’S THE MONEY JIMMY’

Remember, we had this issue a couple decades back with Elvis Grbac and Rich Gannon in a playoff game with Denver that we lost..Likely Rich would have won and it’s a Super Bowl season..But nope, we needed to keep Elvis happy…who left anyways and was never any good again…Rich was an MVP and took Oakland to a Super Bowl….end of story…

  1. E.H. says:

Yes, it really does look like a lost season. Still, I think a lot of us Chiefs fans realize the drafting of Mahomes was both the beginning of the end for Alex Smith AND the beginning of the beginning of something really special.

Finally, we’re going to compete with the big boys..it just ain’t gonna happen this year.

  2. Kerouac says:

“KC is now 6-4 with 6 games remaining, all against mediocre teams.”

    – reality check: the swiss are 6-5, not 6-4. They themselves are mediocre – as mediocre as ANY NFL team. When you lose to the 1 win NYG, is no certainty KC could beat ANY team right now, including win-less CLEV. Reason why I had stated that, of their (then) 7 remaining games, swiss ought win 3; Kerouac looks a prophet, his prediction.

Time grows short; despite the fact play 3 of their final 5 games at home, any supposed home field advantage theirs is ancient history become myth. 3-2 at home this season, 1-5 their last 6 games, suggests the swiss are a .500 team (or worse), when ‘what have you done for us lately’ is the measure; the odds of their finishing behind both LA and OAK in the AFC West, and missing post season, about 50/50 right now.

Having already addressed all the issues you reference CG, will not rehash bit will say the swiss problems are many, as in a multitude of ‘not so’ splendored things; captain checkdown is the easy, convenient target, but hardly the only who deserves critique.

Upshot: swiss ain’t got the horses – said that start of the season. Everywhere you look, they’ve too many jags (just another guy(s), in lieu creme de la creme level NFL talent. An offensive line that can’t run block, an rb who looks stuck in quicksand, no legit wr, a te more distraction than asset. Elsewhere, a cb disinterested in tackling, a set of lb’s that individually all do one thing well – but only one thing, and pass rushers who need compass, map & a head start to reach the qb. Yet, all of that pales next what really ails KC most: they’ve no confidence at all, and it permeates their entire team now. As fans same, the players no longer expect to win, and so, they don’t. Only exception appears to be their kicker… he heads south, all hope is lost.

Prediction: will be no change at QB in KC this season – fans will have to ‘wait till next year’ for that possibility, and even 2018 is no sure thing. Chargers win the AFC West, OAK and KC battle it out for 2nd/3rd place… Kerouac’s 9-7 prognostication the 2017 swiss looks to be pretty much right on schedule.

K clearly I wrote this the day before…and shockingly NATIONAL coverage repeated the story in more detail…that its the trade value and nothing more….ITS THE MONEY AND SALARY CAP FOR NEXT YEAR…as I have been writing most of the season….K I am writing about the losers today…yes now 6-5 and headed for a final at 7-9 and in second place..thats if we continue with Alex, we might beat Denver, maybe not…Chiefs today are the worst team in the NFL. From the best to worst…

    • CG says:

I say 7-9 if Smith is qb and Chiefs say he will be now…so season is over, 9-7 likely wins the division…it will be the Chargers.

  3. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

CG..a couple of things on Mizzou.

    1. The win against Arkansas did NOT give MU a bowl spot this season. No that happened the week prior versus Vanderbilt, which gave them their 6th win of the year.

    2. Michael Porter Jr. may not be done for the year after all. The back surgery he had isn’t something that takes that long to heal & recover from. Most people take about 6 weeks. He’s already up and around and shooting baskets. Then he posted on Instagram yesterday “Whoever said it was going to take 3-4 months, lied to y’all”. Or something to that effect. This saga is far from over.

    • CG says:

Yes Guy I mentioned that last week as well just added to the icing and maybe gives them a shade better shmo bowl…

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

MU could be playing KState or Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl. Would be alot of fun and an easy drive down to Memphis.

Not enough publicity is being given to Drew Lock’s breaking the all time SEC record for passing TDs in a season. Amazing. Especially with the SEC producing quarterbacks like Tim Tebow, Peyton Manning, Danny Weurfful (sp?), etc. All Heisman winners…but it’s Drew Lock that holds the record. Impressive. Especially since he doesn’t have the talent around him those guys had.

    • wrong again bozo. Sorry but there are many 6 game winning teams who don’t go to a bowl. did you hear that. But since mu is in the sec and came in third in their division they should be in a bowl game.
Thanks for info on porter….hopefully he gets back. Now back surgery is not
as bad as it once was. Saw tv ad for spine institute said that with a little
pin hole they can fix a back problem.

  4. same old song from glaze….because he jinxed them when he said they were super…
all he had to do is listen and watch. Since he knows nothing about the inside part
of the game he’s a fool to even keep writing.
If you were at the football game….as Boom Boom was…the bills got 3field goals
without having to eat up a lot of yards. Their kicker can hit from 57 so if they
get the ball on the 25 they don’t need much to get 3.
The guy who really knows the problem is rich baldinger…who says the problem
is the offensive line. He noted that the line is not playing the basics such as
pad hieght/footwork/angles/etc. against the def. lines. Hunt needs some room
to get yards but he had no holes…..smith needed time but he had none…..even against a horrible bills defense. Plus kc has no receivers. Outside kelce (who smith failed to find when hewas wide open on patterns across the middle) They are mediocre at best and when they gave away their best receiver macklin everyone wondered why?
to keep wilson or the rest of these poor route running receivers. Also noted was that their routes were being run incorrectly and when smith looked for a spot to throw
to they weren’t open or even at that point.
Smith flutters the ball. And he needs to get out of the pocket more to give these
mediocre receivers time to break open.
But 16 points in the nfl these days is not a big score. The chiefs should have easily
been able to get at least 24 yesterday based on the huge number of points the bills
had given up in their last 3 games.
And hill will end up like dante hall. His usefullness is being dimnished because
he can’t run downfield and be seen in the 1-2 seconds the qb has to see him.
Defensively…pooor fundamentals. It’s as if these players never worked on the
fundamentals of where to play and how to play.
They still have a pretty mediocre schedule left but most importantly they have
to regroup. They just aren’t doing the basics correctly (which glazo bozo) would
never see because he know nothing about football).
Instead we get verbage from glazo that we’d get from an everage houswife who’s
never been to a game or watched football. The same old adage week after week.
Forget MAJONES….these pro teams would throw so many different defenses and
plays on this unproven rookie (texas tech qb rarely make it in nfl) that MAJONES
head would be swimming. It’s different playing against second and third string
guys in pre season and playing the best athletes during the regular season….but
glaze either doesn’t listen to what those who have done it before say….or he will say the same old incorrect things….MAJONES WILL NEVER BE EVEN CLOSE TO SMITH.
wHAT i DID SEE WERE LOTS OF EMPTY SEATS….BAD FOR HUNT AND REID WHO MAY HAVE OUTLIVED HIS TIME IN THE NFL. Just poor play calling…but
he doesn’t execute the plays…it’s the players fault.
Still think they can win the division because of the remaining schedules for the
3 contenders so lets hope for a division win….a first round win….then lose to the
pats or steelers. That would be the best we can now hope for.
Andthe best we can hope for is glazo bozo learns something quick about the “inside”
of football before his next horrible story.

  5. Glaze compare MAJONES…and watson. Not even close dude. Majone would be eaten alive …..watson is a champion….majones is a gun slinger and those don’t last long in the nfl.

    • CG says:

LOOK BOOMER/HARLEY/JOJO…NOBODY HAS SEEN IT AS CLEAR AS I HAVE NOBODY…ABOUT PAT, WHY HE ISN’T IN AND THE FALL OF THE PHONY CHIEFS…YES MONTHS AGO THEY LOOKED GOOD THEN REALITY HIT AND SO THEY FELL AND HARD…ITS A MOVING TRAIN…BEING A FAN LIKE YOU THEY ARE ALWAYS GOOD AND JINX HUH…THEY DIDN’T NEED ONE THEY STINK AND ARE NOW ARGUABLY THE NFL’S WORST THEY CAN’T BEAT ANYONE…NOBODY..ALEX SHOULD HAVE GONE WEEKS AGO…MAYBE CLARK WILL DO IT NOW TO HAVE A SHOT AT SAVING THIS CRAP SEASON WITH A FEW WINS AND A PLAYOFF WITHOUT PAT BYE BYE…

  6. CG says:

BOOMER THE’ inside’ like what the f did you know or ever know…I don’t attack you on all this cause its a waste of time, my articles appear in several area papers as well and clearly are read and mentioned on sports radio and more…so I guess I know something…I can’t just be a fan and pretend…this franchise is terrible always was…after Dawson, Taylor and Stram…we’ve done nothing in 50 years and are a joke…sad but true..hey I want them to win too, they just aren’t good enough…no AFC championship game since Joe in 94….wow…no super bowl since the 69 season…enough said..

    • miket. says:

ah but 1969 was SO good, it left k-raq satisfied for half a lifetime and still going… so the heck with the chiefs… lets get k to bring out the vinyl and show us those awesome muscle cars, then we too can drift back to the good ol’ days…

    • sorry glaze you really are off course. You ‘re fair weather. They win five you say their going to win it all. They lose 4 you say their the worst team in nfl.
what is it? they have some talent just not using it right. O line isn’t doing the fundamentals right. It’s corrected easily.
      yes..no…yes…no….yes…no….make your point.
the great ones hang with their beliefs…you’re like a mouse looking for cheese!

      • CG says:

HARLEY I made my point right now KC is at the bottom of the NFL what was is no longer…without Pat Mahomes at quarterback this season is over, the Chargers win the West and likely lose zero games from here forward including beating us at Arrowhead..who can we beat with this team and this quarterback today…perhaps nobody. P.S. most observers agree with that concept today. Sorry. Again its not about being a fan its about whats going on now.

  7. Goose13 says:

I think Andy is calling plays again, Nagy needs to call them like the first five games. Chiefs stopped being aggressive and doing 10 yard pass and all the movement on the line. Its not working. Go back to what works. Plus our o-line sucks.

  8. E.H. says:

Say what you will about Andy Reid and his problems running an NFL team..all he needs is a decent QB to make him look like a genius..and I bet he knows this by now. No Brady or Big Ben and what do you got? medicore to good that’s what.

    • CG says:

E.H. correct, there are few great quarterback out there and finding just one is difficult as we all know….Andy has Alex Gordon and he is a middle of the road guy out there, a few years a bit better. With young Pat he might have one of those special guys…we’ll see. Clark is in love with Andy so his job isn’t in jeopardy yet, that comes if Pat fails and the team falls out of playoff runs again for a couple seasons. If that happens Andy likely would just step down at his age. I think Clark enjoys Reid’s control of all coaches and headaches for now. Look KC had a great financial year I’m sure, lots of swag sales, the great start which got KC more attention than the last 20 years of media, new big names in Hunt and Kelce selling…..its over now but for a few weeks he had his dream….losing all that is tough. Now its on Pat’s shoulders to fix it.

  9. Glaze…you’re a funny clown. not like those mean clowns in that movie.
but you’re funny with your comments….can we get some inside info beside your
    regular rants.
Maaybe explain why the chiefs are having problems besides the same old shlamile
    stuff you write.
You know nothing about football and it shows.
Lets do the bet for the rest of the season…I’ll beat you bad….I think you’re afriad
to take me on. What are you 5-22?
