Glazer: Scribe Meaures Chiefs, Drops Hammer on ‘Boom Boom’

As the NFL season rolls along injuries are as a big issue…

The Chiefs have lost a number of key players already and the list is growing. On offense KC will be without Chris Conley for the rest of the season – a bigger loss than many realize. Conley was emerging as a solid No. 2 to Tyreek Hill who is still somewhat underused.

Now add Travis Kelce to the out list against the Steelers Sunday  (and oh boy, another tough game). There is also some fear that Justin Houstin’s play time could be limited.

Our offensive line is already missing half its starters and was average before they got hurt.

Now?

Yikes.

So can KC handle a mentally down Steelers with quarterback Big Ben under close watch after he told the media he’s not sure if he has it anymore?

Ben threw five int’s last week and his team got smashed. Still the Steelers are a force in the AFC until proven otherwise. Often the Steelers have started slow only to wind up in the AFC title game or Super Bowl.

And we all know the Steelers have the Chiefs number.

Last year they ended our Super Bowl hopes by pushing us all over the field at Arrowhead in the divisional round. Yes, KC lost in round one of playoffs to Pittsburgh who didn’t score a touchdown but seemed to just overpower our defense and shut down our then poor offense.

We just can’t beat these guys.

If the Chiefs were healthy and with all the locker room problems and Big Ben thinking he may retire soon – maybe at season’s end – Chiefs might handle the Steelers this year.

However injuries are a major issue for the Chiefs and them being favored is more about the undefeated thing and being at home.

That said, I believe Chiefs QB Alex Smith will find a way.

Like with Houston, it probably will be a close game.

We need to score early and work with a lead again. Can we?

As I wrote last week, Tyreek  Hill is still our most dangerous weapon and needs more carries and catches. With Kelce out it’s on Hill and someone else has to step up. Our defense, lets face it, is poor.

The Chiefs almost can’t stop the run and our pass defense has gotten worse it seems each week.

Some things to worry about:

Kareem Hunt just can’t win games. All season long he’s had a good fourth quarter to pad  his stats and make us feel good. But yes, we are asking Alex Smith – the MVP candidate and now’elite quarterback – to carry the Chiefs to victory.

Smith will definitely have this team on his back Sunday.

Oh yeah, Dee Ford is back, JOY, Ha. Maybe.

My picks are below as always. Had a better week last time out.

But now Boom Boom, wants to pit his picks up against me.

That is, if i don’t tease. So, okay.

I will do straight up picks this week for him.

The Big 12 is no longer in the hunt with any team for the Final 4, so nationally they matter little. OU and OSU will likely battle for the title and a decent bowl game.

K-State is fighting to avoid going to the Shmo Bowl.

MU and KU are joke teams with MU a 30 point underdog Saturday. Boy, how the once nearly mighty have fallen.

Hey college sports fans, relax its almost time for hoops and KU basketball.

Another week, another game closer to season’s end that familiar swiss chorus ‘wait till next year’, amended part 2018 verse 49’… but, first things first.

The view outside City of Fountains not as rosy red the homer-istic take locally… just as no one beyond KC believes Capt. Check-down Smith was anywhere near as impressive a QB as rookie Watson Monday Night (5 td passes trumps 3 every day of the week), so too do they ‘not’ believe that ‘not so special k’ (aka ‘Silent’ H, who got kareemed by the Texans) is even in the conversation for best RB in the NFL.

In fact, the swiss over-hype isn’t even top 5 according fandom at large (nor is he even the preferred choice among rookie RBs: that would be Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette who put up 181 yards with a 90 yard td vs PITT; let’s see how ‘Silent H’ does Sunday.)

    ___________

Week 6 the mediocre 32 NFL. 7 suspect teams ‘best of the worst’ all equal at the top of the garbage heap, none any better the rest… 7 only slightly poorer the bottom… and 18 more that on any given Sunday can go in either direction, and usually do… NFL calls it parity, astute fans call it what it is: watered down, criminally bad modern pro football.

    • CG says:

Look troll as you know from here and the KC Star Stanfords moved to downtown Kansas City, 813 Walnut. The new Stanfords 813 is ready to open now we redid it and got approved by KCMO liquor control but its been a longer than expected wait on the state license. We should have that as soon as next week and then we will open with comedy, food and fun, 7 days a week.

Harley why do you care? You haven’t seen a show at any of our clubs in years. Course I don’t know who you are or what you look like nobody does.

A commenter did send me an email and sent Hearne a comment that he believes you have a man crush on me and are perhaps not interested in ladies. I have no clue. He also feels as many do I should not ever respond to your insults and hate comments. Likely he is correct.

Remember unlike many regular writers that comment here, you are a troll/hater with no name, no identity or value so your words have little value to readers other than for fun or to laugh at, facts my invisible fan.

  4. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

    1. If OU runs the table in the Big 12 the rest of the way, they will be in the playoffs. That’s a big IF, but it will put them in. Period.

    2. Chris Conley – 11 catches / 175 yards / 0 TD’s. I think they will be OK. Now, he has made some HUGE catches to keep the chains moving, but he isn’t a superstar.

    3. Close like the Houston game? What game did you watch? Chiefs dominated that game from the get-go. The final score didn’t reflect the actual beat-down the Chiefs put on the Texans in THEIR house.

    4. Injuries are part of the NFL. Everybody has them. It’s next-man-up.

    5. I sure hope Hunt keeps “padding” those stats in the 4th quarter. Chiefs have been able to finish/close-out games because of Hunt’s padding. Best RB in the NFL, currently.

    6. Chiefs have covered all 5 games this year. I don’t look for that to change. Chiefs 24 / Steelers 17.

    Go Chiefs!

    • CG says:

Good info Jim thank you…I’m with you and hope we win….I’d take Chiefs if I had to bet but its a tough call….hell they all are..

  5. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Chiefs blowout the Steelers. Roethlisberger is done.

The real story in KC this week is that KU and MU are set to play an exhibition basketball game at Sprint Center to raise money for hurricane victims. Word around the campfire is that it was Bill Self who reached out to Cuonzo Martin about it. Who knows if that is true or not. It’s a great cause, but my fear is injuries.

  6. chuck says:

Hey Glaze, how was the Meatball Sandwich?

    Mine was killer!

    🙂

  7. LanceTheIntern says:

“Now add Travis Kelce to the out list against the Steelers Sunday (and oh boy, another tough game)…”

Not sure where you got this info. Kelce cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol earlier in the week.

  8. E.H. says:

Kelce practiced on Thursday so he play on Sunday.

  9. all outta gum says:

Since CG got rid of those ridiculous teasers I’ll participate again.

    COLLEGE:

    PICK MICHIGAN -7.5 at Indiana

Kansas @ Iowa St. PICK THE UNDER 65

    PRO:

Pick NE +9.5 at Ny Jets

all spreads and o/u taken from VegasInsider’s VI Consensus (average of the odds at the 6 biggest books in vegas).

    • CG says:

Hey Gum glad you made some picks sir…as for teasers they are far from ridiculous…in Vegas and here over the years, not this season so much, I have done well with them 6 points on two moves is a good shot to make things go better for you….and its a big part of gaming in the bookie joints in Vegas and online soooo…its just part of the game, maybe you don’t like it…but most older guys never used it thats why, never knew about it..

      • CG says:

WEll GUM you already have me cornered good job…my college picks looked like locks early then got trounced in the late part of the games with Texas and LSU coming back to cover….good job gum.

Boom boom I guess headed for the hills on his picks…strange bird, huh.

    • Brian says:

      All outta gum:
Good pick on Michigan; good pick on Kansas-Iowa State under.
However: I’m pretty sure the entire nation would pick New England +9.5 at Jets. Only one problem: It’s New England -9.5.

    • E.H. says:

The Maize and Blue didn’t cover.

  10. David Nelson says:

Tease or no tease, CG is not having much luck this year. 0-2 start this weekend. 4-12 for the year. I figured someone besides his very happy bookie should keep track.

  11. Kerouac says:

It’s the halftime report, brought to you by MED-EVAC: when the swiss get pounded into the turf and scream ‘UNCLE!’, we’re there to help them up.

Ssssssssssss OH NO, WAIT – not THAT! SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS sound of all the air rushing out the giant puncture wound made in the swiss chiefs balloon courtesy the big boys of Pittsburgh, PA – Steelers.

No, things are certainly not looking good here in mudville, missouri fellow swiss fans… looks as if Capt. Check-down’s fairy tale clock has struck midnight, while ‘Silent H’ has returned to form, his… pumpkin.

PITTS RB Leveon Bell with 102 yards all by himself – more than the entire swiss team.
‘Silent H’? A penalty & 8 whole yards on 5 touches… yeah, he’s the best in the NFL all right… the same Steeler defense rookie JACK RB Fournette put up 181 yards and a 90 yard td run on.

There’s much much more to come, but will save that for the swiss post mortem and autopsy, post game.

Back with second half action in one minute.

    🙂

  12. CG says:

Miami old guys pop the cork!! Chiefs get manhandled by Steelers….AGAIN…they show the world KC is good, Alex is much better but CHIEFS NOT A SUPER BOWL TEAM nope, no defense and offense has no line to protect Alex….sooo once again a one and done playoff team…I’d say Steelers are best team in AFC….if Big Ben keeps his head on tight…Chiefs second or third again behind the Texans….we just have no defensive stars to help and none coming back to help…done….just don’t have the talent and our O line is terrible…I’M SORRY…

  13. E.H. says:

Down goes KC. Even though it sucks to lose to the Steelers AGAIN we still had a chance at the end. Yes, we got outclassed by the Steelers but they exposed our defense and let’s face it, Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, Big Ben, Harrison ain’t too shabby. Steelers are 3-1 on the road.

Now we have to finish this 4 games in 17 days nonsense by playing AT Oakland this Thursday night. Then we get some much needed rest and hopefully we can shore up our defense.

  14. no you bald eagle liar…i made picks satuday but y our admin did not “approve” or moderate the picks.
