Glazer: Scribe Saddles Up For 2017 Pigskin Picks

We all know the Chiefs face the world champion New England Patriots Thursday…

It’s one of six prime time games KC has this year. Talk about KC getting media respect, oops here it comes…!!!!

Thew problem?

The Chiefs could be very average this season.

The Pats are a nine point favorite with G.O.A.T. quarterback Tom Brady leading the way.

Yes, I know Julian Edleman is out but Brady has plenty of other weapons like BIG ROB GRONKOWSKI to throw to.

Yes I know in 2014 KC beat New England at Arrowhead and Brady went on to win the Super Bowl – a game KC hasn’t been in half a century and counting.

What would I do you ask?

I’d start Pat Mahomes NOW….why the F NOT.

We’re saving him for what?

We’ve seen Alex Gordon – I mean Smith – in action for years. And he will no doubt lead us to a couple field goals early and maybe ONE TD.  But that’s probably it.

Any other points the Chiefs score will likely not be because of Smith. It will be a big play on defense or special teams.

Can KC hang with the Pats?

Maybe.

If you tease your bet do you go KC plus 15? Remember you get six points either way or do you go Pats -3….tough call…

O.K. I know Chiefs coach Andy Reid will not face Alex Gordon/Smith and say, “Sorry son, but Pat……no way. So its Alex, Kelce,Hill and Hunt on offense….no Mahomes YET.

Tough call on a pick here, but you  have to like the hometown Pats and Brady…..to win but it may be close…like Pats 24 Chiefs16.

Remember we have no clue what our defense will look like Justin, Dee Ford, Derek Johnson saw little to no pre season action and all three are question marks at linebacker..so is Eric Berry at safety…yikes.

Wish I had posted my college picks last week, I got lucky with the big teams (seven) winning or covering or both…but no post, so doesn’t count..here is this week

PROS

NEW ENGLAND -3 IN A TEASE OVER KC WITH ATLANTA -1 IN A TEASE OVER THE BEARS/CHICAGO

HOUSTON +1 OVER JAGS IN A TEASE WITH OAKLAND +8 OVER TENN.

COLLEGE

CLEMSON +1 over AUBURN in a tease with ALABAMA -37 OVER FRESNO

I might add some more closer to weekend…

Thats it for now..let’s hope the Chiefs are good this year…we’ll see!

P.S. a big reason I’d start Mahomes is the Pats and ‘Bill’ have been getting ready for the Chiefs and Alex for months….he’s the master of ‘game plans’ right..why not throw in a monkey wrench…Pat to start. Pat is a play maker, goes outside the pocket and throws all over the field kinda hard to figure out…he can run and is fast…it could throw off the Pats D…Alex they know…the Chiefs only wild card is really Tyreek Hill, and I would use him at more than wide out…he seems to have more energy when being moved to half back, kick return etc…

It’s a big game on a big stage…why not think BIG instead of playing it safe and losing close…”well we gave them a good game” b.s. you want to be a super bowl contender than go be one…

Hey gang maybe I’m off base and Alex will have the game of his career, I just don’t see it happening on the road at New England…do you? Than its well we can be 3-1 or 2-2 to start and boy hope Oakland loses…

    • Goose13 says:

How bout start Smith then bring in Mahomes? That would keep them thinking.

    • boom boom says:

THE SCRUB GOES DOWN THE TUBES AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You use your phony b.s. tease method that hasn’t ever worked.
I challenge you to see who’s best at picking games nad you chicken out!
Using those teases got you SMASHED.
YOU SAY START MAHONES? ARE YOU NUTS….DID YOU SEE ALEX
JUST ANNIHILATE THIS SUPER BOWL CHAMPS.
DID YOU WATCH THE GAME OR WERE YOU WATCHING RERUNS OF
JJ WALKER FOR THE 9TH TIME.
YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT A TEASE IS….DON’T KNOW SPORTS BECAUSE
YOU ARE A COMEDY GUY (i GUESS)
WE RAN VEGAS GLAZO. YOU’RE JUST A POOR SHLUB TRYING TO MAKE PEOPLE THINK YOU ARE SOMEBODY.
DROP THE TEASES AND WE GO ONE ON ONE.
      8 BIG PLAYS……RIGHT…OVER 6 YEARS…REAL GOOD STATS!
HERE’S WHAT THEY CALL YOU….A SUCKER!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

What? No predictions for the local college teams? Very key years for all three. At KU, it’ll be to see what Warren, oops, Ned, I mean David Beaty can come up with in year 2. Can he identify the hidden gems and develop them? Cause that’s what it’s going to take to win at KU. He’s GOT to find a stud quarterback. In the Big 12, offense rules. At KSU, does Father Time have anything left in the tank to make a final run at the conference title? Most would say no, but I’m fairly certain KSU will be headed to a nice bowl coming out of Dysfunction Junction, aka the Big 12 (with 10 teams). At MU, Barry Odom’s seat is already getting warm. There’s a significant contingent in Mizzou fandom that believe he shouldn’t have been hired to begin with, and he’s the last bastion of the utter disaster that was Mack Rhoades. (Who is now fumbling around Baylor. He’s the George Costanza of A.D.’s.) And the defense that showed up in the first half against Missouri State, didn’t help his case any. Anything short of 6 wins gets Odom fired. Jim Sterk has shown he won’t put up with losing coaches, especially with donations pouring into the AD by the millions of dollars. Win or be fired, Barry. I think we’ll know as soon as this weekend against South Carolina in Columbia MO.

  3. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

CG, I’m ALMOST there with you on Mahomes. I say that being a huge Alex Smith fan. Alex is as solid as it gets at QB. He’ll get you 9-12 wins year in and year out. He’s kind of his own worst enemy. Solid and conservative in the regular season and that tends to lead to a really good regular season W-L record. But, none of it translates to the post-season. (or very little) So, why not take a shot with the kid? It will be a year under his belt and a full season of experience. I just don’t know if people are willing to live with the growing pains of an 8-8 or 7-9 season in order to see better days in the future. It is a “win now” league, as you know.

    Good luck on your picks!

    Go Chiefs!!

  4. boom boom says:

Hey glaze still playing with teases you palooka? (haha)
I told you that your record with these teases was horrible. So you backed out of
boom booms bet…no teases and straight up bets.
Pats -3…come on…they’re super bowl champs and you’re a chump to continue
the childish games you plan on kcc.
Put up big mouth…straight up bets…loser leaves kcc forever…but I know you
    know boom boom would win.
IN vegas they call those with teaser bets LOSERS! Check it out loser. Ask anyone
in the sports book industry. Teasers lose you will into 40% of your bets.
You chickended out….see Boom Boom knows bettter….spent more time in
vegas than you spent in titty bars so I know.
Another phony. 3 comments. RIP KCC! And as the great journalist you never were hearne maybe you can update the old old ads on your site. Good luck.

    • CG says:

Sorry Charlie/Harley…I won 8 big plays on teasers lost 2 in the last few years…in Vegas do I think you bet big in bookie places there HELL NO…you don’t even understand a tease bet and as far as them losing 40% I don’t know I don’t….its a bigtime bet game in Vegas the TEASE and I am limited now at 4 hotels on mine….including the MGM and RIO…no big deal….Harley I think you know very little bout gaming…I don’t believe you have been to Vegas a ton, some yes, not a ton…I have…I’m busy here now or I’d be out for this opening weekend…I made my choice New England -3, the Chiefs plus 15 was tempting…I just don’t see our offense there now…I didn’t bet big so we’ll see…Harley what is it you want to play me in? Picking games without a tease? If you like…I don’t think you know much bout football to begin with nor do I care…I don’t see you winning much of anything…..here.

  5. Kerouac says:

As the political scientist Robert D. Putnam’s once wrote of diversity in terms a nation: “Perhaps the idea is that by enlarging & defeating this challenge, we shall be a better nation. In that case, if challenges are so good for us, why not create a few more? I suggest flooding some low lying cities”.

    – with a nod to Putnam’s prescience and apologies Houston where we have a problem, no diversity of sentiment exists when it comes to our hometown kingdom swiss vs the latter-day equivalent a middling version late 1960’s pro football team, the cheatriots… we are doomed.

Odds anywhere 7-9 points at this writing, last year’s fraudulent nominee as the NFL Champion is playing in their backyard, Foxborough, MA. Kansas City will likely get more than a close shave @Gillette Stadium: mascot turnabout being fair play, a nigh on scalping.

But, a new season and new reason be optimistic (Eddie Cantor, not Kerouac), predict the swiss will ‘not’ be beaten bad as 1967’s Chiefs pummeled the Bears East 22nd and Brooklyn, 66-24. But, old habits hard to break, Kerouac’s as boys attired red and gold, something similar/bad enough:

    @NE 34 KC 13
    _______________

Now, keeping the football motif: a few cheap shots, quick hitters if prefer –

    “Thew problem?”

    – Rather’s Dan, ‘what’s the frequency, Kenneth?’ “Oh, about one Superbowl every half century.”

“The Chiefs could be very average this season.”

    – not to be confused 1876 season’s Sitting Bull & Crazy Horse, who counter to custom horned in relieve that patriot Cus of a big victory their little contested gridiron.

“What would I do you ask?”

    – wasn’t me, but as you bring it up…

    “I’d start Pat Mahomes NOW….”

    – Pete Beathard, by any other… 1964, the Chiefs #1 pick was aka ‘The Right Arm of God’, Beathard drafted to replace the soft-throwing less physically impressive Len Dawson – Pete’s arm was so strong, makes Mahomes look Olive Oyl’s, comparison.

Alas, Pete shared what Pat too possesses, based early returns… hit and miss accuracy. First time Mahomes can be called starter? Same time he reads a defense not flavored vanilla, unlike preseason vs 3’s and 4’s. Mid to late 2018 season probably, soonest he will hit the field (after dropping back to pass & discovering his initial foray exhibition games 2017, and all he thought he’d learned, was but a lie.)

    Start him now you say?

    “why the F NOT.”

fine, let’s get on with it: ‘wait till next year, part 2018, verse 49’ soon as/by any means possible.

    🙂

    • Kerouac says:

(PS) How ’bout them fraudroyals – are they soup yet, CG? Only 7 teams ahead of them for one of the two lowly wild card spots, and but 5 more teams hot on their heels, astern… is this some kinda great sporting country or what!?!

How silly be pro (Kerouac uses that term jocularly) sports/MLB, circa 2017?

The Chicago White Sox, last in the AL Central a 54-83 mark, are still alive the wild scramble known ‘no team left behind’ crummies et al, wild card hopefuls race. 29 games under .500, with just 25 games left in the season, and yet like the KC fraudies same, still have a chance post season; where’s the vomit bag.

  6. David Nelson says:

CG – Thought of you when I heard about this:
    The Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest®
    • Entry fee $1,500
    • Pick 5 pro games against the spread each week.
    • Deadline to enter is September 9 (still time)
There were a little over 1,800 entries last year and a Starbucks barista won it. Took home $905,482 with a record of 54-28-3 record – 65%!!!
It’s probably not for you – no teases and can’t fudge lines. But it is a true test of picking against the spread.

  7. CG says:

Hearne let me know I need to update the area college team situation…KU,K STATE, MU…HEY THEY ALL WON GAME ONE…when was the last time that happened..so there is hope and a couple good quarterbacks at KU AND MU with NFL dreams in their heads…nice…I WILL DO more on college tomorrow and include our area teams…I don’t see a post season for Kansas this year but they are clearly improved…MU is a maybe for a low level bowl game…K STATE is eyeing the Big Twelve title…its been a minute for them since they mattered nationally but they were ranked 21 to start the season so people are looking at them. We will see.

  8. Blunt Force says:

Wow! What a fearless prognosticator. As soon as I read “teaser” I knew you were a clueless bettor. There’s a reason they call teasers “tourist bets.” It’s dead money like yours that allows me to make a nice living from sports gambling. By all means, keep paying 70% extra juice on your two-teamers. They’re sucker bets for unsophisticated gamblers. I also call bullshit on you being “limited” on your action in Vegas. Knowing you and your finances, I would wager you’ve never made a bet in Vegas that would raise an eyebrow, let alone get you “restricted”. And NO ONE has ever been personally limited on playing a teaser. Quite the contrary. If you actually played teasers for the amounts you imply, they would “send the jet” for you. But alas, you don’t and they don’t.
As to Mahomes, no one who didn’t spend the majority of their summer watching training camp has ANY IDEA what Mahomes can do. He has yet to face first-teamers or any kind of actual defensive scheme that he might see in the regular season. Smith may not be as “flashy” as you would like, but again, that’s mostly due to your lack of understanding of the game. He actually is incredibly accurate on his downfield throws (40+ yards). I could explain it to you with charts and stats but I don’t have that kind of time.
Seriously, do you really believe that ANYONE gets up in the morning and says, “Hmm. I wonder what Craig Glazier thinks about this?” I don’t think you have much to offer in the way of wisdom.

    • boom boom says:

      B E A U T I FUL. I’M NOT INTO THE PERSONAL ACCUSATIONS OF
LAW BREAKING…BUT BLUNT FORCE LAYS WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING
ABOUT GLAZOS BETTING TO A TEE.
TEASERS ARE FOR SUCKERS AND WE’VE SEEN THAT FOR A FACT.
If you made those bets glaze in vegas they would roll the red carpet out
because you’d be a big time WHALE….a whale of a loser!!!!!
Blunt force..this is for fun and entertainment and we all take the heat (especially boom boom). But that personal attack i feel was uncalled for.
again..this is for fun and entertainment.

    • David Nelson says:

Give CG a break. Does he exaggerate? Does he “misremember?” Does he get his facts messed up? Absolutely. But I’m always entertained by his musings and his predictions. And give him credit, he never hides.

      • CG says:

Ha, well ok David glad you enjoy my stuff…no I don’t hide like the troll on here, but neither do you…hey I was wrong…Chiefs played great my new story will say so…happens, I’m glad I missed this one and the Chiefs may have a great year and be fun to watch.

    • CG says:

No but I’m sure you do man with no name….scoring what? People like you are the reason social media is a mess…punks and losers, like you…I assume this is JoJo/Harley…

      • boom boom says:

NO GLAZO BOZO…I CHANGED MY NAME TO BOOM BOOM..BECAUSE I PUT THE HURT ON YOU EVERY TIME.
        SORRY I BRUISED YOUR EGO
People already laughing at you too much. And if you went with jackie to see IT you’d know that clowns just aint what they used to be!

  9. Kerouac says:

In a word, ‘congratulations’ to the swiss- check that, for one night at least, the ‘Chiefs’. Though it comes with a large asterisk* (for several reasons), KCinderella wears a silver slipper for one night at least. In depth analysis & details to follow in Kerouac’s late late (or early early) game review…

  10. Kerouac says:

Somebody wake the lookout. Case the formerly Titanic now sunk their maiden 2017 voyage New England Patriots, they never saw that obstacle in their way till they ran into it… by then, it was too late: Chiefs 42 @Patriots 27.

For one night and one game at least the NFL World Champions walked a green mile, and their knight-errant became Python’s Black Knight, their aura of invincibility and insufferable cockiness (fandom) as well smugness (team) gave way reality check – no Champion team stays on top forever. Not the dynastic NY’s Yankees of 20th century baseball lore, not Montreal’s Canadians hockey, not basketball’s Boston Celtics same century nor football’s greatest ever, the Green Bay Packers.

They wrote the Patriots and Brady’s epitaph three years ago on a night in Kansas City much like last evening’s, New England. Only, Tom was but an lad of 37 in 2014; now, he looks a not so terrific 40 which, coupled no Judd’s for the Defense, lends credence Belichick’s “it’s on to New Orleans” holds a far greater sense of urgency than it did 24 hours afore. It was certainly lacking in his team according players and observers alike, which is to say perhaps a Superbowl hangover.

It’s happened before, just not to the Patriots. Kansas City suffered the same fate 1970, blown out by the Vikings in an rematch to open that season. Hindsight affirms it truly was the beginning of the end for the Chiefs. 47 years later, the strains ‘this may be the start of something big’ may be premature. ‘Never throw caution to the wind’ Kerouac offers a few facts that suggests why it just may be.

    * KC pass rush: had none last night most of the game; likewise, NE was just as unable. As the AFC West boasts the best three sackers the NFL in Von Miller, Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, whatever order ‘best’ you prefer, offensive results Chiefs seen rear view last night’s game will not appear as large when seen in context, when facing good defense.

    * Not to be confused (or maybe they are) with the 1966 Chiefs, who went to Buffalo season opener vs the defending AFL & Co-World Champion Bills. The Chiefs 42-20 victory that year was gained vs the best defense the AFL and all of football arguably, whereas New England’s 2016 defense ranked 12th out of 16 teams the AFC and then lost four players from that unit; based last night’s results, appears they’re playing an quartet short now, 2017.

    * Another similarity KC’s 2017 open and 1966 same: two rookie RB’s made big debuts – Garrett and Hunt. Mike averaged 12.4 yards per touch ’66 and Kareem 11.1 last night. Mike scored on a 79 yard td while Hunt had one of 78. Len Dawson was almost perfect a 151.1 QB rating in ’66, while Smith was only slightly worse last night, if vs an inferior opponent. That latter aspect should temper the typical ‘this is our year’ delusions that dance in locals heads annually, KC.

The best may be yet to come but for starters KC’s 55th bow provided the best finish of the night: no more talk of 19-0 by the Patriots, and no more talk re: replacing Captain Checkdown Smith, who has been as denigrated as rookie overhype Mahomes has been coronated, the former for not being ‘Mad Bomber’ Daryle Lamonica during his career, the latter for being Brett Favre before he has thrown a single NFL pass.

Upshot: Chiefs made it to the Superbowl that 1966 season, but were beaten by those aforementioned best ever Packers. 2017 season but one game old, an case beginners luck KC, or an precursor end their long half decade banishment football irrelevance?

Color ‘Show Me’ Kerouac a patient man.

    🙂

  11. boom boom says:

Kerowacky….chiefs had no pass rush. There’s a reason grandpa they had no pass
rushs.many times they only rushed 3 d. linemen. Did you see that. Or should we
get you some glasses from CVS or Walgreens. Old man…the eyesgo first…then
the private parts. Ask Glazo…he knows! (hahahahaah).
