Glazer: Chiefs Disappoint, Could Be in for a Long Season

Seattle walked all over our Chiefs last night…

In what should have been our best pre-season effort by the first team, no less.

Unfortunately it was far from it.

QB Alex Smith has proven once again that he does not have the IT factor a great quarterback needs to win big games or even just to win when it matters.

Smith is the steady Eddie who will get you one or two touchdowns a game…SOMEHOW.

However, fans can mostly count on red zone field goals as usual. Smith has a mountain load of trouble getting the ball into the end zone – throwing or running it.

I’ve talked about weapons or lack of them and KC has only two real proven offensive weapons, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. We all hoped Spencer Ware would improve, but instead he hurt his knee and may be out for some time.

Nobody else has shown more than a glimpse of being a player who can step up and help win games on either side of the ball.

The Seahawks beat us from opening bell…26-13.

Smith did nothing and our future star Pat Mahomes working with second and third team players did little more. We stunk and had 100 yards in penalties to boot.

I talked before the season started about the Chiefs being a mystery team.

I don’t know who they are or what they really have right.

Meaning, there are no new answers.

Linebacker is a big issue: Justin Houston, Dee Ford and Derek Johnson have shown zip so far. Yes DJ is out there playing and that in and of itself is nice given his leg issues. Eric Berry has not played and Daniel Sorensen has been the bright spot on defense, seems to be in on almost every big play.

Hill dropped three throws yesterday – perhaps they were not perfect ones but they were catchable none the same.

Kelce has done zero and acts like he will just show up and all will be well. His FOUR TDs last year were far from spectacular. He may be the NFL’s most overrated player. We have no established running back.

Damn, all of this points to an uphill season.

This team really has no identit.

WHAT OR WHOI ARE THE CHIEFS?

A great defensive team? Nope.

A defense that comes up with big plays, yes.

Offense?  I”d say average right now if that.

Special teams are very good, but now that Tyreek Hill is not the returner, Deanthony Thomas is and he did bring one back last night for our only score.

Sorry to say, nobody new so far has stepped up much.

Therefore at best the Chiefs are a team hoping to be perhaps a wild card?.

OH, I forgot, we have Andy Reid one of the all time best coaches in football and perhaps a genius at making quarterbacks great. Right.

I haven’t seen that myself. The Chiefs look to be what they have been, just ok nothing special. Sorry.

Hope they get better and find some help.

A brutally honest take yours CG… no banging of swiss pom poms, no kool-aid force fed down throats the legion Championship thirsty unrequited & no ‘oh well it’s only preseason’ yearly alibis local media/fandom… just the Friday facts delivered an Sgt. Joe sensibility.

“Hill dropped three throws yesterday – perhaps they were not perfect ones but they were catchable none the same.”

    – reiterate, the guy has proven himself a fast kick & punt returner and in small doses an effective gadget/gimmick player – nothing more.

‘Yeah but yeah but, training camp!’ (refer back to earlier summertime in the midwest wunderkind Jesse Haynes & Bobby Sippio et al.) Now elevated to #1 WR for the swiss because…? Their receiving cupboard is more bare than a newborn baby’s behind. Not a WR by trade, not large by genesis & not destined become another Jerry Rice as one over-zealous local fan claimed, he’s a major work in progress (as the swiss same, now serving part 2017 verse 48.)

An world possibility instead pipe dream, ‘if’ Hill remains healthy he might become an poor man’s Mark Duper (has much more in common Super Duper by appearances). If so, swiss fandom should count themselves lucky. Even for that to transpire, Hill has a long, Long,LONG ways to go.

“Kelce has done zero and acts like he will just show up and all will be well. His FOUR TDs last year were far from spectacular. He may be the NFL’s most overrated player.”

    – CG the hater 🙂

No, rather non-homeristic reality. Kelce is another Jared Allen in my opinion, which is to say a good player more wrapped up in ‘self’ than team – in the parlance, delusions of Narcissus grandeur his greater than his football acumen same.

Predict Kelce will, as did Allen same, leave KC some point & never look back, retiring NFL as a member another organization, taking his over-sized head, undersized skills blocking, a penchant for dropping passes and/or fumbling augmented unprofessional behavior to include obscene hand gestures afield & spastic gyrations with him… good riddance.

” We have no established running back.”

    – what KC has is a stable full Kimble Anders.2 variously. Hunt becomes the go-to guy due injury Ware, do not expect Emmitt Smith to appear just because fandom taps its heels together thrice while pleading ‘I think he can, I think he can, I think he can be’.

As for the rest Smith, Mahomes, LB’s variously and DB’s same: beauty being in the eye the beholder – “No change – no change at all!” 2017’s final result compared years afore.

“we have Andy Reid one of the all time best coaches in football and perhaps a genius at making quarterbacks great.”

    – in the finest tradition George Allen (if not on the same level more successful yet still found wanting pseudo-legends Bud Grant & Marv Levy), terms KC’s coaching history Reid is Marty Schottenheimer.2… ‘nice try; we have some nice parting gifts for you.’

“The Chiefs look to be what they have been, just ok nothing special. Sorry.”

    – 47+ years since Hank Stram’s underachieving Chiefs snuck into post season 1969 via first instance the modern day farce known ‘expanded post season’ format and claimed KC’s only (though illegitimate as every Championship since NFL, MLB & NBA bearing the asterisk *) pro Championship to date, the fact remains our city & our team’s have, even in their finest hour, been unworthy as in ‘never would have qualified’, otherwise.

Upshot: not even half as much suffering as Cubs fans endured and not even a Bartman their own to blame interim (though blaming an Elvis Grbac & Lin Elliott must suffice), Chiefs will finally succeed & win an Championship (if even a fraudulent one) the same day an rolling roof as KC-chosen host-city Superbowl game same appears Kansas City, Kerouac’s guess.

    and Tragedy
