Jack Goes Confidential: Gal Gadot OWNS ‘Wonder Woman’

DC Comics’ WONDER WOMAN has been around since the early 1940’s—way before Lynda Carter brought the character to television in 1975…

That series aired through 1979.

And Gal Gadot first exposed the character to the big screen in last year’s (so-so) BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.

Later this year WW will be part of DC’s eagerly awaited JUSTICE LEAGUE adventure opening November 17.

Until then there is Warner Brothers’ big scale production of WONDER WOMAN hitting theaters this weekend.

And I’m here to tell you that initial audience reactions—including those of our KC screening group earlier this week—have been overwhelmingly positive!

This movie has heart, humanity and great action sequences. And best of all you DON’T have to be a fan to enjoy it.

This is the origin story of Amazon princess Diana living on a small island who rescues a downed American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her of the World War I horrors going on in the outside world.

Fortunately Pine keeps things light with funny quips and expressions throughout the film.

Making a long story short, Diana leaves her paradise with Pine, heads to London, fights ‘German Evil’ at every turn and discovers her REAL powers—and true destiny.

But there’s so much more to it all.

I’ll just leave that for you to discover.

It’s all directed in top-notch style and form by former Lawrence, Kansas resident Patty Jenkins who set out to deliver the best WONDER WOMAN possible.

Suffice it to say, Jenkins accomplished her goal with flying colors.

This is definitely one of the best DC Universe-to-screen transformations yet.

The fine supporting cast includes Robin Wright, Danny Huston and Connie Nielsen among others.

If there’s one criticism, it’s the film’s overly long running time.

At 141 minutes it seems to me that ‘tightening it’  in the edit suite by, say 10 to 15 minutes would have helped it flow that much more.

But what do I know……..

So sit back and enjoy this emotional story about family—yet action-packed superhero film that takes girl power to the next level.

WONDER WOMAN opens in various screen formats this weekend everywhere.

My grade: B+

Superhero movies in 2017 are where disaster movies were in 1979, played out and at the end of thier popularity cycle.
