Glazer: Ladies & Gentleman, Our One and Done Playoff Chiefs

Most Chiefs observers agree…

It’s time to fix the quarterback situation. In other words, get rid of  Alex Smith.

Can we do it next season, please?

Here’s how: Trade Alex to Dallas for Tony Romo. Yes, they’d want a top draft pick, too. Neverthelessless, I say do it!

Tony looked great in his one appearance with Cowboys at the end of a game a few weeks back. He found the end zone in a few throws. If healthy, he could take KC deep into the playoffs next year, maybe more. He is an elite quarterback, has a skill set well above Alex Smith’s.

We have other needs…

Starting with a running back, linebacker, another corner, a big play wide receiver…offensive line…yes. Will Clark Hunt want to gamble on a draft pick soon at quarterback? That usually means losing lots of games for a year or two or more. Right now he can play it safe with Alex and Andy Reid and go to the playoffs with a winning team, fan interest and a full house. And I think Romo would create a ton of interest right off the bat.

In the end, as Hearne asks, does playoff football or baseball change your life?

When the Royals were losing for decades did it make our lives worse? Better?

Of Course not!

It’s just a sport. The men who play it are paid in a year or two more than most of us make in a lifetime. Even guys who fail – Elvis Grbac, for example – make millions.

And what do you and I get?

In the end, it’s just mindless entertainment unless you happen to be employed by the NFL or NBA or MLB, right?

Hey, I’m a fan,

I admit it; have been for years. However I did lose interest in MLB due to the Royals being so bad for so long. And it was hard for me to get it back.

However I do remember that night when George Brett hit the game winner to beat the Yankees and send the Royals to the World Series. That was a fun night. So it’s different for all of us.

So let’s shake it up and go get Tony. Try something new. Otherwise it will be more of the same. And who wants that?

Only two quarterbacks have won more games than Alex Smith. Neither named Tony Romo.

They need to find a QB in the draft rather than recycle another retread. Especially one who has problems staying on the field throughout their career.

Andy Reid is the major problem (see 14-years with the Eagles).

  2. CG says:

Now the talk is trade up for Clemson’s Watson at quarterback. Chiefs trade up with Alex Smith, Dee Ford and a couple of high draft picks. There is always the New England back up quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo? Or just stand pat and get the same results…you can argue just being in post season is better than the 70’s, 80’s and beyond right.

  3. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

I agree that something needs to be done at qb. But you’ve also got Eric Berry and Dontari Poe’s contracts to deal with. Also, Alex Smith is due a big fat salary next year…to the tune of 14 million I think. What team is going to want to take that on in any sort of trade? Cleveland? Buffalo? I’m really not sure.

  4. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

CG, you have officially lost your mind. Tony Romo? Tony f’ng Romo?! The 37 year old Tony Romo who has taken his team to the playoffs 4 times in 12 years and has a 2W-4L record to show for it? That Tony Romo?

In what bizarro world is this an upgrade? Come on. Even you don’t actually believe this would be a good thing.

You say “try something new”. New like Montana/Bono/Gannon/DeBerg/Grbac/Green/Cassel/Quinn/Orton/Moon/Smith? New like that? How is acquiring ANOTHER team’s QB seem new to you?

Orphan is 100% correct. Smith’s W/L record while in KC has been excellent. There are a dozen other things this franchise needs besides QB. I’m all in with trying to draft a develop a QB. The problem is that all the people that run the organization put their jobs on the line if they go after a QB in the first round and he’s a bust. Nobody in the Chiefs organization is willing to do that. So, you go with something safe and keep your job.

Cheers, my friend! I love your passion!

  5. CG says:

Well good points no question. I have a different opinion of Romo than some do, including you. I think with the rest he’s had, coming to the end of his career, etc…he would play hard to prove he was an outstanding player in the end. Sure if he gets hurt, that’s a big issue. I addressed the play it safe, and yes likely the Chiefs do that, make no big move. Agreed.

    • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

As Jim indicated, Romo’s playoff record is 2-4. Know who else’s playoff record is 2-4? Alex Smith.

  6. E.H. says:

I say keep the status quo for now and here’s why.
    5. Just because a QB is good playing for Dallas or New England doesn’t mean they’ll be any good for the Chiefs(Matt Cassel was a DISASTER). Romo is past his prime anyway.
    4. The Chiefs have an excellent system, hiring Andy Reid was a bold move by Clark Hunt and since then the Chiefs have been very good.
    3. The whole Chiefs franchise, from the players, coaches, front office to include the owner are learning what it takes to compete with the big boys. This mentality can grow and eventually lead to a Championship.
    2. We can’t neglect any part of the team, the defense/the O-line..they all need to be great. I think I herd Colin Cowherd proclaim that a team without a great defense will practically never succeed in the playoffs..let alone the Super Bowl.
1: Nobody from the AFC goes to the Super Bowl until Big Ben and Brady are out of the league. Andy Reid wins the Super Bowl in 2019, wins the presidential election in 2020.

  7. Orphan of the Road says:

CG, I suggest you scour you past articles on QBs and look at who you wanted drafted in the past and how they worked out.

Drafting a QB is as much voodoo as research. Andy has found some diamonds in the rough through the years. But they all turned out to be industrial-grade rather than Debeer-grade.

Chase Daniel would be a top flight QB IF you could coach height.

I’d take Phillip Rivers over Tony Romo but wouldn’t really want either.

  8. CG says:

There is no exact science to getting a new quarterback Orphan. Agreed. Howver we must try and upgrade if we can…

  9. Kerouac says:

3, 2, 1… and we’re back! Wo bist du, KCC? More specifically (English version): where were you?

The last story Kerouac saw on here was dated 12/5 re: Trump… and every time I returned that was still the most recent story. Now, just as of today, appears KCC returns, yet stories dated post 12/5 are showing up – why they not show up before now? Unknown. You’re gonna give Kerouac a complex (or a migraine headache.)

But enough about He that is me mine greatness: correct on the fraudroyals, correct on PRESIDENT TRUMP and correct – once again – on the swiss… ‘wait till next year! part 2017, verse 48.’ Told all ya alls how it was a gonna be (sorry CG/et al… don’t keep on a drinkin the rancid, long past its expiration date red kool-aid.)

Romo? Gesundheit. Said it afore, say it once more: that guy is a pin-cushion, an injury waiting to happen – he hurts himself putting on his cleats, and, despite playing behind the best offensive line in the NFL. Put another, he’s the same flavor different day of an aged-Montana… though even on his best day Tony was not even an average Joe.

The Game Manager – nod late Coach Dennis Green, alex smith “is who we thought he was.” All that and nothing more. In 1968, expansion Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach Paul Brown was fairly dismissive of Chiefs Len Dawson, who Brown had in Cleveland. When asked if he wished that he had stayed with Dawson in Cleveland, Brown replied “he’s driving a Cadillac”, in reference the talent Dawson had around him KC’s offense.

A later game manager type was Miami QB Bob Griese. Small & mobile with weapons like Warfield, Csonka, Kiick, Morris, a great offensive line and an absolutely stunning defense, the Dolphins managed to win a couple of Championships. Yet, their run was brief, point being, even that even with all the talent a Dawson & a Griese had around them, combined the two ex-Purdue QB’s combined managed but 3 undisputed World Championships in 33 years of playing/trying.

Et tu swiss chiefs with alex smith at the helm? Odds are, it will ne’er happen with him in KC, but hey, hope springs eternal.

One and done: saw tyweak hill (on a milk carton)… and that was it. He is as Kerouac said he was, but a gimmick player. He can’t start at WR or RB, his only real impact in 2017 was returning kicks. He is a poor man’s Devin Hester, and likely no more. He is too short to be an effective WR (unless you enjoy those short receptions that he took for an awesome 9.7 yards per catch average regular season, then a (ty)weak 6.9 ypc post season game. He’s too small to be a regular RB (he’d be snapped like a twig if a dontari poe -type got ahold of him.) An ok player when used judiciously… that’s it.

Elsewhere, ALL-UNIVERSE – ALL-WORLD (in his own mush-filled mind) prima diva kelce, the kicking and screaming and towel throwing and pass dropping and fumbling & vulgar gestures afield ***-clown, got his comeuppins. Kerouac was laughing so hard at his on-field foibles and meltdown (per his usual juvenile tack), that I almost busted a nut. What an absolute disgrace to KC kelce is…he is unquestionably the most selfish, self-centered player I’ve seen in my six decades watching the swiss. The sooner that he is out of KC, the better off we as a ‘team’ and he as an ‘I’ndividual will be.

Who else gets goat’s horns their final feeble effort vs PITT? Take your pick, candidates abound. Yes, things are not/never will be up to date in KC the swiss, which is fine with Kerouac, still happily ensconced in 1969 when the ‘game’ was less about dollar$ & ‘me me me’ types and more about results afield. So enjoy the dancing and taunting and the money making and team losing that is so prevalent today, don’t we know too well here in the town that football favor forgot, here on the far far south side of and new version of Chicago (1908)… Kansas City (1969).

Have a great off-season fellers… you too swiss.

Till my internet pen creates again…

Did you pen this with a Crayon this time, or did they let you use a sharp object? If only you had the ability to convey a thought through communication, these pieces might make sense. Till then keep up the horrid work.

  11. The alleged KC pro football team just can’t help but to keep padding their playoff record. I believe they are now 4-15 in the playoffs over the past 46 years. They should be FIRED from the NFL like a bad episode of Celebrity Apprentice.

  12. CG says:

    Now that was funny Rage!!!!
