New Jack City: Jack’s ‘BEST BETS’ This Holiday Weekend

the-secret-life-of-pets-review-ewThe 2016 movie summer is coming to a screeching halt!

So here are a few tips from my Recommend List in case you’re planning on taking in a movie this long Labor Day weekend.

(Note that the list doesn’t include much of Hollywood’s recent end of summer’ output.)

Here then are my ‘BEST BETS’ at the Labor Day weekend box office:

******* For the entire family I’m still recommending the long-running animated THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS with voice talents by Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart among others.

Also Disney’s re-imagining of their 1977 family-adventure PETE’S DRAGON now with Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford and Oakes Fegley.

******* Looking for laughs?

Then BAD MOMS with Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn and Christina Applegate is really my only choice.

maxresdefault* When it comes to drama—or so-called dramedies’—my picks are Woody Allen’s CAFE SOCIETY with Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Steve Carell.

Also Meryl Streep as tone-deaf FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS co-starring Hugh Grant.

And Jonah Hill with Miles Teller as middle-men arms dealers in WAR DOGS.

* Finally if it’s action and thrills you’re seeking then my picks are Matt Damon’s return as JASON BOURNE. (The smash-up on Las Vegas Boulevard alone is worth the price of a ticket!)

Also the anti super hero SUICIDE SQUAD who feel good at being bad—no matter what the critics are saying.)

Then there is the white-knuckle thriller DON’T BREATHE!

And my favorite!

HELL OR HIGH WATER with Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster.

(Note that the movie expands its Kansas City engagements this holiday weekend!)

                     *******       *******       *******

Kansas City’s Fall Movie Season kicks-off on September 9th with SULLY, producer/director Clint Eastwood’s telling of the story of Captain Sully Sullenberger’s incredible ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ jet landing starring Tom Hanks.

Still have to go see, “Hell Or High Water”. Sounds great!

Watched “Love And Friendship”. Those girls just killed it. The takes were sometimes 5 minutes long.

Beckinsale and Sevigny were like the greatest athletes anyone has ever seen, at the top of their form. Hitchcock’s assessment of actors is, for the most part, pretty accurate as far as I am concerned. But these girls just killed it!

Saw Hell or High Water on Jack’s recommendation. A+ indeed. Great acting and a pace that allowed the story to unfold rather than being dumped into our laps.

The Secret Life of Pets was at the Twin this weekend (along with Finding Dory – score!): both Astas — the 10 year old and the 13 year old loved it. Pete’s Dragon is on the to-do list for next weekend.

Will let you know about Suicide Squad as soon as I can ditch the family…

Chloe Sveigny is back on the lips of the glitteratti again, with 2 movies coming out (and only one of them is Video-On-Demand). It’s like it is 1995 again for the never-quite-was-the-NYC-it girl!

I have no legs…I have no legs..
