Jack Goes Confidential: ‘Hell Or High Water’—Texas Crime Thriller That Rocks!

hell-or-high-waterI’ve said it many times before…

The most frequent questions I get are, “What’s good at the movies?” and “What movie do you recommend?”

The answer to both is, HELL OR HIGH WATER which opens in limited release this weekend.

It’s not a sequel or superhero franchise film but a gripping modern day, western thriller.

Shades of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

The storyline has straight-laced divorced father Chris Pine and his ex-con brother Ben Foster coming together to rob small town Texas branches of the bank that is foreclosing on their family’s land.

That is until they find themselves in the cross hairs of relentless Texas Ranger Jeff Bridges who is looking for one last triumph before his retirement.

A collision of the old and new west.

UnknownThis movie is full of crust, grit and humanity and features Jeff Bridges’ best performance since TRUE GRIT.

It’s also MY favorite film of the entire 2016 summer season!

Visually; stunning. Humanity wise; mesmerizing.

This is the movie I am highly recommending—crime-spree violence and all.

HELL OR HIGH WATER opens today in limited engagements then expands into additional theaters for Labor Day weekend

My grade: A

JACK GOES TO THE MOVIES Friday mornings during Kansas City’s Morning News at 7:40 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. on 98.1 FM, KMBZ.

Refreshing, after Spiderman 27, Superman 23, Dirty Dancing 2, Caddy Shack 4, Star Trek 27, and/or Flash Dance 3, proving there are writers in Hollywood that are looking for new material. New actors in the same old characters make me want to scream, “Clark Gable did it better,” How many Supermen, Batmen, Spidermen, and others have we had? How many James Bonds have graced our screens and televisions?

    Sounds like a winner!

Saw it this week, it was really, really good. Beautifully shot and the acting was first rate. Especially Jeff Bridges performance. Was it just me, or were there some subtle digs at the conceal & carry culture?
