Jack Goes Confidential: ‘Sausage Party’— Taste The Raunch

5-things-that-make-the-sausage-party-trailer-awesome-891816In the mid-90’s the braintrust behind Pixar Animation Studios developed the concept of What If…

What IF the toys we grew up with had a life of their own? A concept that would only become reality when we were not around.

That, of course, sparked the hugely successful computer generated TOY STORY.

And earlier this summer a similar concept was applied to THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS which also became a major summer hit.

The latest in the genre comes from the fertile minds of Seth Rogen and longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg.

And while TOY STORY and SECRET LIFE OF PETS targeted family audiences—this latest effort does not!

SAUSAGE PARTY is definitely R-rated—and how!

Some at our screening felt that this raunch fest actually deserved an NC-17 rating.

But is SAUSAGE PARTY funny? Sure it is. At least for the first 20 minutes or so.

NEDe19oQNT64GH_1_aThen the laughs slowly begin to fade.

That is until the film’s (pardon the pun) climactic scene—or how can I put this?—- ORGY.

The storyline of SAUSAGE PARTY in all fairness is pretty clever. It’s set at Shopwell’s supermarket where all sorts of products live in peaceful harmony.

Each item on the shelves lives for the day when a shopper will pick them up and take them home.

Freedom at last!

But their world soon comes crashing down when they learn the terrifying truth of being eventually sliced and diced and becoming part of a meal.

Panic ensues as lead sausage Frank (Seth Rogen) devises an escape plan from their human killers.

Of course there is more to this edible sex comedy which would’ve made a great short subject.

But an hour-and-a-half?

That’s really stretching this perishable journey.

Voice track talent is strictly A-list here including Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, James Franco, Michael Cera, Nick Kroll, Edward Norton, Salma Hayek, Danny McBride and Paul Rudd as a tomato named Nicky Da Vinci.

For our screening we were all served one free drink—beer or wine.

I bet I would’ve enjoyed it even more though after TWO drinks…….

SAUSAGE PARTY: For God’s sake DON’T take the Kids!
