Jack Goes Confidential: ‘Ghostbusters’—The Action-Comedy Classic That DIDN’T Need A Reboot

empiregbcoverWhere’s the laugh track when you need it?

At the GHOSTBUSTERS screening earlier this week mine was two rows behind me where a couple of older gals shrieked at just about every line coming off the screen.

The rest of the audience not so much.

To suggest that this re-imagined version of GHOSTBUSTERS has its share of haters is a giant understatement.

The badmouthing began when the project was first announced and went into overdrive after the film’s first trailer hit the internet.

Director Paul (Bridesmaids/Spy/The Heat) Feig’s new version is basically the same story Ivan Reitman told three decades ago.

Here researcher Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig team with nuclear engineer Kate McKinnon and streetwise subway worker Leslie Jones—not to mention their goofy new office receptionist/hunk Chris Hemsworth.

All that talent set to battle an evil and powerful paranormal invasion.

It must have looked good on paper. But I can’t say the same for the end-product.

ghostbusters-2016Sure the special effects have come a long way but the interplay doesn’t flow naturally and seems forced throughout.

If there’s one ghost fighter that steals the show it has to be Kate McKinnon who’s probably best known for her portrayal of Hillary Clinton on SNL.

And yes, Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd have cameos in the film.

If you go to see this action-comedy, be sure to stay through the credits and catch the numerous nostalgic tributes to the original pop up.

One final scene AFTER the credits would even suggests a sequel to this reboot.

Frankly, I wouldn’t bet on it. But then I’m not a gambler………

The want-to-see factor for GHOSTBUSTERS is pretty strong—especially among women.

My suggestion?

Keep your expectations in check and you won’t be disappointed.

(Hey, at least it’s better than 1989’s GHOSTBUSTERS II)

  1. The Word says:

I’ll watch it. But because it says, “Ghostbusters” No more, no less. I did the same thing with the Conan the Barbarian remake, which I didn’t like. I did the same for the Robocop remake, which I thought was not bad. So who knows with this movie.

But their marketing department at Sony didn’t do this movie favors. The trailers were horrible. After the trailers and all the bad press they got the marketing decided to guilt people into watching it who saying your sexist if you don’t watch this movie.

Then when that didn’t work, marketing decided to make fun of the target demographic calling them man baby’s who think four women are destroying their childhood appealing to the SJW’s. Look at what their doing to the Angry Video Game Nerd.

…Now that I wright all of this, screw it. I’ll wait and watch Suicide Squad instead.

I’ll skip this movie. I rather have a live action version of the 1986 Filmation film.
