Glazer: At Least the So-So Royals Still Have a Chance

We all know what’s behind with the Kansas City Royals seven game losing streak…

No hitting and no starting pitching on the team’s road trip. Result: Royals fall out of first and now trail Cleveland by 2 1/2 games. The good news: Its only 2 1/2 games with more than half the season left. The bad news: This isn’t last year’s team and likely won’t be with the current line-up.

Losing Moose and Alex Gordon was a blow, although Alex will soon return. No, starting pitching is the biggest issue with the Royals right now. Pitching is what wins games and championships. And right now the Royals have a three and a four pretending to be the No. 1 and 2 starters in the rotation. That would be Edison Volquez and Ian Kennedy. Yes, Danny Duffy is coming on and may well become the Royals Ace. Unfortunately, ‘Ace’ Ventura seems lost and word is the Royals are looking to trade him.

So how can Royals fix these problems?

54875With reliever Wade Davis you still have one of baseball’s best bullpens.

They just have to have a lead going into the 7th and 8th innings.

On top of which, the Royals will need to find another starter. Who that is we don’t know right now. Three Royals are solid hitters, Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain and of course Sal Perez, the leading vote getter in the American League for the All Star game.

The rest of the team is either cold or just so-so. We see little power from the new guys but it’s early.  KC’s DH has been awful and likely will need to also be replaced this season.

The good news is that the league is pretty even near the top of each division.

Our division looks to have just two likely contenders for the win: KC and Cleveland.

The White Sox are colder than KC as of late and the Twins and the Tigers don’t seem to have enough talent to finish at even .500. So if KC can play just over .500 the rest of the season at least a wild card is a realistic shot.

Remember, you just need to have the 5th best record in the American League.

Right now we don’t, but it’s close even with the losing streak. The Royals will of course battle back, however the Indians seem to have their number thus far.

In the end pitching is everything and right now that is a weak point for the Royals with starters. Someone is going to have to step up and the Royals need to find some help.

    BRING ON JR.!
    HE’S THE KING!
You should write a book about JR.
Call it the ‘WEINER OF STING”.
Call Dayton moore. Jr. knows how to deal with the ladies…maybe he can
work his magic on the Royals! CHOOO CHOOOO

    • Harley the One (there is only one "The Greatest"!) says:

please stop all articles on royals and trump.
When you get behind the royals they do bad.
when you get behind trump he does bad.

Royals had a tough week after you ate crow.
Trumps numbers are collapsing as we speak…….just as Harley
      predicted.
Please focus on other issues at hand….like jr./streetcar/hotties/ali etc.

      thanks…
      your friend
      Harley

  2. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Pretty accurate picture of the Royals right now. Ventura continues to be a complete embarrassment. It’s bad enough his ERA sucks, but his bush league antics make him a liability to the physical health of his team. In the NL, his punk-ass attitude would’ve been taken care of the minute he stepped in the batters box. But in the AL, he gets to run and hide in the dugout, as his teammates take the bullets for him. He’s a worthless tool and shouldn’t be with the Royals. Either banish him to AAA, or trade him to an NL team so he can learn some hard lessons.

I believe it helped win a World Series.

      GLAZA:
according to most accurate polling index…HILLARY UP BY EIGHT BUT
DID NOT INCLUDE HER DAYS SINCE NOMINATION.
AND TRUMP WILL HAVE NO STATE BY STATE GET OUT THE VOTE
      OPERATIONS!!!
AND HE’S GOT NO MONEY TO ADVERTISE.
Please stop jinxing royals….go play with jr. and your friends and leave
      the sports predictions to Harley.

  3. Old Man Kissel says:

I wonder what Greg Hall’s thoughts are on the Royals slump?

610 better hope the Royals get out of it. People are already talking about football season.

    810 scoops 610 once again…

  4. Harley the One (there is only one "The Greatest"!) says:

    OLD MAN KISSELL

610 already made their money. The tv stations are sold out.
The royals are still the kings of this city…….
Now if we can get glaza to predict bad things for the royals the team goes
on a tear. His stories change like his babes change their panties.
But now that jr. has hit the you tube circuit, the talk on talk shows across
the nation is when will jr. star in his very own porn movie.
Word from Hollywood is that clint eastwood and Eisner are in talks this
very moment with representatives of jr. to make a sequel of the famous
DEEP THROAT movie. Title to be DEEP BONE-R!
Jr. will be appearing at the petco on Metcalf this Saturday to offer
paw prints for all his new found fans.

  5. Shark Tank says:

Definition of irony – Glazer writing a piece on the mediocrity of others.

  6. CG says:

After watching these last several games and seeing this 8 game losing streak, boy the current Royals are in trouble. These Cleveland Indians look good enough to win the division if the Royals can’t get some help. Again way its going looks like they will be playing for a wild card spot.

In the end its the pitching that’s the problem. No starter right now is going well, except Danny and he still has to prove he’s a capable starter. Yikes.

    • Harley the One (there is only one "The Greatest"!) says:

thanks glaze….keep up the negative bull sh*t. After you wrote this the
team came back and now is tied for first.
      YOU ARE A JINX.
keep writing your usual off base and always wrong articles here and on
      tony’s blogs.

  7. Jack Springer says:

You are bipolar regarding the Royals. Maybe it’s time to shut-up.

  8. CG says:

Uh in case you haven’t heard or noticed all media is saying much of the same. We have an up and down ballclub. As mentioned due to a weak division the Royals could take it, pends on many issues as we have seen. Hitting still not there but our four guys, Ace,Kennedy,Danny and Edison…all have been better in their last starts will that continue? Don’t know. So To say shut up…wtf, my take is kinda the way it is…nobody is hot on this team in the media NOBODY, however with that middle line up of Hoz,Cain n Perez it could be there, need more time…this looks a fight to the finish…a grind it out…I have said I expect KC to be a number 5 wild card no matter, league is just weak.

  9. Jack Springer says:

The Royals are tied for 1st place in their division.

… must be time to jump on the bandwagon again, huh CG?

Write about thing you know something about or don’t write at all.

  10. CG says:

Look hateful Jack I think I do know about baseball and the Royals. They have been a streak ridden club this season, its strange all media sees that, not just me…being on their wagon no matter what is not being fair in coverage….I’ve said they sure have the talent to be back in the playoffs and they do…likely there will be more ups and downs…I think they will be in this thing.
