Glazer: They Could Go All The Way

kacieJust 12 games in and the Kansas City Royals are in first…

And with the American League’s second best record, no less. Their pitching looks outstanding (outside of Chris Young) and their defense is fantastic. With 8 wins and 4 loses everything seems to be on track for postseason part THREE.

There are issues, of course.

Nothing is easy and the Royals bats have been pretty quiet. Last year the offense took off with half the position players hitting over .300 as the season began. This year hitting has started off slow to say the least. Only starters Omar Infante and Eric Hosmer are batting over .300. The other position players, including Alex Gordon, Sal Perez and Mike Moustakes, have struggled. Everyone else is below .256. Only Moose is hitting with good power so far, with four homers, but a batting average of just .217.

Hey, I know its early.

Wade Davis is on track to be the league’s best reliever again, with a .000 ERA and 5 saves with 1 win already.

866fff9042422aefa97bad30e5089a44The starters have all looked very good except a poor start by Young who has lost 3 of the 4 games the Royals dropped thus far. His ERA is 7.90.

Clearly without injuries to key starters, the Royals are a postseason team. Again.

They may need to find another solid starter and a another bat if they want to get back to the World Series. They did that last year.

However, we have to be concerned that the team is counting a bit too much on defense and pitching to win a second championship. Yes, it’s possible, but it would be nice to have regulars like Hosmer, Morales and Cain get back to form. Homer has been hitting well but has just the one homer.

Hey, we have a long way to go.

Nobody can be upset with 8 wins and just 4 loses and being in first at this point.

I did find it odd in watching the Houston series. Because even though many consider Houston the other great team in the American League and the Royals their nemesis, they drew small crowds at their last week’s games. The Royals have no such problems with sell outs or close to it every game.

My guess is KC wins the division again.

However, to get back to the World Series will take talent and some luck.

And so far our Royals have both.

Legit Kansas City Championships – things that make you go… no.

    1985*

  2. Kerouac says:

CG, there are no elite teams in any sport: all frauds – royals & chiefs as every other latter day excuse same – imposters all since 1969 (even MLB’s reigning ‘World Champions’ San Francisco Giants, who will make it three straight and 5 Championships in 7 years 2016.

    🙂

  3. Libertarian says:

Glaze, you didnt mention the one player I’m starting to worry about, even though the season is young, and thats Soria.

Is my worry premature, or do you think he’ll get better? I thought returning to KC would be easy for him, but I dont like what I’ve seen out of him so far.

Whats your take? Good sign, or bad sign?

    • Frank says:

In 2013 and 2014, you could have made this statement into a “form letter” where the only variable information was was the one word in the first paragraph which was the last name of the player. Back then, pretty much every player was suspect at one point or another. I know it’s early, but if everybody had their way at the end of last year, Omar Infante wouldn’t be batting .324 right now because he wouldn’t be on the team. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Yost has it figured out.

  4. Harley the Great says:

Don’t ask glaza for his opinion on a player…he’s got mushy opinions.
Had glaza read maybe more than the stars limited coverage of this team
he would see that they are still one of the top teams in stats.
But just like glaza has been wrong on the royals/the chiefs/trump/Hillary/
business/developments/Mario/and just about everything elese he’s wrong
    again.
His recent comments about trump have been pure b.s……wrong…wrong…
    wrong.
His picking winners in football/baseball/college teams/ku has been
    atrocious.
Ifv you want the real deal…and not some far flung predictions with no
basis in fact….glaza is your man.
If you want statistical proven information on politics/sports/stock market/
local business and refuse to live in the past (like glaza and hearne who only
want to look backwards in life or who can’t let go of the past) then follow
    Harley.
This mickey mouse game of “guess the outcome” by glaza with his terrible
track record is getting very old. Maybe hearne could hire someone with
knowledge about politics and sports…who isn’t getting his ideas and his
writings from unprofessional and amateur analysts.
In other words….Harley is beating the pundits on every sports and
    political move.
So dump the glaza….go with Harley.
Glaza says the royals win the division…wow..what a big big going out on a
limb prediction. My dog said the same thing.
As for glaza and entercom….I got a chance to hear Holly Starr do a
great job on the Johnny Dare show. Could she be replacing someone on
the show. I look forward to it. She brings some class to the show and
talent that the others lack or who’s schtick has worn out.
I was asked on my site if holly could replace one of dare’s people and I
responded that she could…but why would a classy smart woman want to
be a part of a dying show who’s nasty gossip and trash are perfect for the
    audience that listens to him.
She’s a great talent and to lower her standards to being part of the
nasty show. Besdies…she doesn’t need the money and who wants to
wake up at 3 or 4 am?
I have been deluged with comments on my email site so any inquiries
will be answered as soon as I can get to them…..

    • CG says:

Holy is a friend, shes great. Johnny’s show isn’t dying number one morning show still, way it is. Holy fills in part time on 98., Mix and Q104.3…she likes doing it.

      • CG says:

        Sorry that’s Holly.

      • CG says:

Soria has had some good moments already. 3 years for 20 plus million, hummmm…not sure on that one. It’s too early to tell. I do not see him in league with Wade Davis, maybe he’s a Luke type…he’s always been good not great…so lets check in on him in a month and see where he’s at then decide. Ok.

        • Harley the Great says:

          another mistake statement from glaza.
During his last stint with royals soria was very strong.
Got almost 95% of his save opportunities…
several years with over 40 saves…
one of the best relivers/closers in the division and
league…and glaza says he was good…not great.
Glaza it would have taken 3 minutes to see this guys
stats instead of making another wrong statement.
Sorry dude…you have no knowledge of baseball.
Guy had a couple of tough years but moore figures
if he can get “eat up” innings from soria he’s worth
          it.
So again…hearne you did not fact check his comments
and he looks like a fool.
Please stop glaze. Go back to tony’s blog where
they know you well. and please…no more articles
          on politics/sports/current events/….

  5. DoTell says:

Now if you REALLY want an attention-getting post that’s gonna pull in the readers, how ’bout some dish on Hos and his squeeze?

  6. miket. says:

too. early. way. too. early. only april for cryin’ out loud.

that said, we don’t want to give up any ground to the white sox or detroit either. george brett said this morning the upcoming series with detroit is Big. probably because it’s a division rival and we don’t play the white sox until about this time next month.

meanwhile, i’m not too worried only 12 games into the season with 150 left to go.

  7. The Word says:

I didn’t read the column. I saw a picture of Kacie McDonell then before you know it it was an hour later and I’m still looking at the picture.

    • CG says:

      I see your point.

      • Harley the Great says:

        she’s a cleat chaser.
no doubt hot but she dumped third string qb (murray) for
the big 8 millon buck kahuna.
met them at mcfaddens….good people but they
are headed out of kc as soon as they can. (2017).

        • CG says:

Yes Hosmer is a goner, likely so is Wade Davis maybe more, money, money, money. Hey these guys gave us several years at a price. Eric wants bright lights big city, can you blame him? So likely this season is the end run for a championship. Maybe we can find another .300 hitter with power to replace Eric, but not likely that fast and a closer…also not likely at the level of Davis…so as Hearne poined out as did 610 radio, the energy is already a bit down on the team..save Sal who is all smiles with his buckets of water/juice….its hard to maintain that desire for three years…these are now vets concerned more about their money and future than just winning….it happened to NBA’s Miami and we see it in all pro sports…the run ends…some like San Antonio last longer, baseball is really hard with teams breaking up every two years or so….money and fame take the energy away…so I think this year is likely our last best chance for another series…hey maybe we find a couple new guys this spring coming up…who knows.

          • The Shadow says:

            Who knows? I do.

          • Harley the Great says:

            ANOTHER FACT: GLAZA CONTINUES TO
            MAKE MISTAKE AFTER MISTAKE.
            sure…teams fall apart…like san fran giants…
            not…..won 3 world series!
            THE HEAT…..I’M SURE LABRON WANTED
THE BIG LIGHTS OF CLEVELAND AND LESS
MONEY SO HE LEFT THE HEAT.
            GLAZA…STFU…WRITE YOUR STORIES..
            THEN DON’T COMMENT.
THAT WAY NO ONE WILL DISCOVER HOW
            WRONG YOU ARE.
As faras sal doing the buckets drop at the
end of the games….I will inform you why that
continues and despite some fans wanting
to stop it and using it only for big occasion
games….the freaking team won’t stop it because
it’s importat to the team…the same reason
the royals are wearing special “bandages”
to ease their nerves and play better baseball.
(I will go into that at a later date).
See how many royals are now wearing those
special bandage looking tapes on their body.
If glaza believes these guys are only concerned
about money then he’s so so wrong….these
players can demand things of the gm/owner…
these royals want to stick together…and
glaza continues to play the fool.

  8. CG says:

As always thanks for your comments and support Harley. Again nobody can predict games or winners all the time. Its not possible. I have done a good job trying over the last few years. Again you never predict games much before they happen that matter. I pick games and scores, before they are played, much different.

As for the Royals, hey they are a great young ball club. We will enjoy their success. It’s sports and everything in sports has a timeline. Just the way it is, right now its the Royals time. I think they will do well again.

    • Kerouac says:

“Just 12 games in and the Kansas City Royals are in first…”

      – flash forward 30 days… they’re now in 3rd place, already 4 games behind the front-running White Sox & 2nd place Tigers.

Winning a Championship – even one illegitimately gifted them case the royals is hard; the harder is trying to replicate said.

It’s still early? For whom does the bell toll? It tolls for thee… be later than you think, both royals and the swiss.

      1969*

      1985*

      2015*

(PS) Let’s review the swiss horrid 2016 draft, easily the worst haul AFC West

      🙂
