Glazer: Not Close, No Cigar – Wait Til Next Year, Ad Nauseum

tom-brady-92414-getty-ftrjpg_1qz0bci5zpsc01s9tecqo6v6owHe’s Tom Terrific, without question…

Tom Brady is the best NFL quarterback of all time. No argument. He likely will be in his 7th Super Bowl in a few weeks and nobody else is even close to that. The man is nearly 40. So’s Peyton Manning, see a difference?

The Chiefs were beaten on the first series by Brady. If you care to read my story from before the game, I broke all this down. The Chiefs needed to receive the ball and get a lead asap.

They chose not too and Brady sliced them up.

Brady has three receivers that are in tune with his every move and thought. The Chiefs don’t have that. He gets the ball out in like 2 seconds. We don’t have that. Our defense was never really near him. NO SACKS. We had to have that. Our offense doesn’t score much. We didn’t ever get a lead or really challenge Tom and his team. Brady could do anything he wanted whenever he wanted. He’s just that damn good. Oh, was there some air let out of the ball? THAT CHEATER.

Now the Chiefs did all they could.

They had a great year. I think as of today they are the AFC’s No. 2 team. Hey, that’s great. Yes, I think we’d have beat Denver and the Steelers TODAY. We are better. They both have bigger issues than KC. However we played the No. 1 guy and No. 1 team and you just can’t beat superior talent without breaks or a super effort that works.

None of that happened. No turnovers, no big plays for us really until it was way too late. Our defense just couldn’t match up.  Trust me, had we tied it, the Pats would have come right down the field and beat us. Brady had our number from that first drive on.

Smith-Red-ZoenAlex Smith is a good quarterback. He played his heart out. The other guy is just much better. With Alex this is far as we can go. Playoffs, a win maybe two, no more. He’s not great, he’s good. Big difference.

We all saw the game. There was nothing that we did that’s worth mentioning.

The Patriots beat us on all fronts – all of them – it’s called the truth.

Oh, if Maclin this, if Houston that. Uh,NO. The Chiefs still would have lost.

We needed sacks, INTS, fumbles, a pass rush, a better running game. Some downfield hits that mattered….we got none of that. So we didn’t win.

Again 11 in a row. Nice.

The Chiefs are a much improved team. Only one team is happy in the end the one who wins it all. We made the final 8. Damn good. Again the Chiefs are very good. They don’t have a killer great player. The Pats have a couple. One is Brady, then Gronk. See what I mean? We don’t have that.

We all know the truth. Until we find that young, franchise quarterback, this isas good as it gets. Alex Smith is back next year to start. We will likely be a playoff team. That’s very good. Go to the Super Bowl? You tell me.

Great season Chiefs. Andy and fans. It was a fun ride. Nothing to be upset about, all good.

Hey Chiefs, Royals,KU all in the championship mix and better – very nice.

i like hash. corned beef hash, roast beef hash… but rehash leaves a taste in your mouth kinda like dirt smells.

  2. Kerouac says:

An honest take yours CG, as is (usually) the case (tho you do vacillate/flop around like a carp at times.)

Here though (again), we part company. To wit: “Tom Brady is the best NFL quarterback of all time. No argument.”

    – ahem… BIG argument, CG. Today? He’s in the conversation, though I’ll take Aaron Rodgers as best. Opinions vary – facts do not. Starr (5 Championships won in 7 years he/Lombardi unmatched by brady-cheat/beli-cheat or anyone else), Dawson, Unitas and Jurgensen (among others) all better, stats and results. Anyone from the 70’s on is likewise suspect, result modern rule-changes offense & watered down competition, so Montana, Elway, Bradshaw, Favre & all the rest are as Brady beneficiaries and as such not of the same echelon those 1960’s and earlier guys. Too, modern day QB’s there are so many whose stats blow away Brady, to include Peyton Manning who will again beat NE’s ‘Shady’ , in one week, @Denver.

You are however spot on re: alice ‘hey where’s the flag, ref – he breathed on me’ smith – he’s a mediocre QB, one whose end will come sooner than later via injury because he runs so much – just a matter of time. For a bigger guy (6’4 220-ish), he evinces/plays more like a girl via his noodle arm and whining to the officials whenever anyone makes contact with him. A far better passer and runner, Fran Tarkenton, never led the MIN Vikings anywhere… neither too will alice.

Strike up the swiss marching band that familiar refrain: ‘Wait till next year’ part 2016 verse 54

    🙂

    • Kerouac says:

As stated, regular season and post, stats are one measure Brady is bested by several other QB’s earlier era as well modern. QB winning % all-time post as well regular season, is another: fact is, Brady isn’t ‘best ever’ in anything.

      Regular season, top 5 all-time:

      1) Graham .810
      2) Lamonica .784
      3) Brady .771
      4) Staubach .746
      5) Montana .713
      _______

      Post season, top 5 all-time:

      1) Starr .900
      2) Luckman .833
      ” Dilfer .833
      4) Unitas .750
      ” Theismann .750

Brady ranks only 6th at .742, this despite the fact he has played in more post season games than any QB in pro football history; that he hasn’t won as many % wise seems to refute the ‘he is ‘best’ ever argument, unless one believes the ‘team’ wins and not the QB, which of course it does.
      ______

Upshot: when people say ‘so & so’ is the best QB ever, be waxing subjective. ‘Team’ success (Championships) different than individual success (stats), it follows that in both cases, Brady is not better than other QB’s. In fact, only Superbowl appearances is he of a ‘higher’ number, and even there but 4-2 (compare with Bradshaw & Montana at 4-0, Aikman at 3-0, examples.)

As Superbowl’s were not even in existence until the late 1960’s, said cannot be held against any QB’s who won one (or more) ‘Championships’, but, never had opportunity to play in Superbowl’s because said were not then in effect.

Conclusion: Brady is not ‘the best’ statistically nor winning percentage – which affirms that modern day ‘overhype’ media, players & fandom does not concern itself with ‘facts’.

      🙂

      • CG says:

Lots of noise K. Answer. 6 SUPER BOWLS one hall of fame receiver no hall of fame backs. Its mostly TOM BRADY. He won 4 nobody has won more. Nobody has been in 6. HE LIVES AT THE SUPER BOWL. He still plays like a guy around 31 years old and in shape. HE IS THE BEST. HE PROVES IT EVERY YEAR.

If he gets to 7, we won’t live to see anyone else do that. If ever. Nobody playing now has enough time left to do 7. Even Cam is not likely to do that. Aaron Rogers will be lucky to see ONE more. Big Ben is down to a couple years left at best. Peyton is done. So nobody in sight. Luck, doesn’t have one yet…see how hard that is bro.

By the way I think its Pats, Panthers as well. It will favor Cam. He’s younger and has so much talent and power. However never bet against Brady. It will be a great game.

        • Furioso says:

Brady and Gronk were definitely in control the whole game yesterday. Man it sucks but we were beat by the best and we can hold our head up high. I usually can’t watch the rest of the playoffs after the Chiefs lose but I’ll probably watch next week heck it might be Pats AT Donkeys.

        • Kerouac says:

More subjective opine yours, CG… you haven’t refuted anything Kerouac stated. Brady is the best only in your subjective opinion – he isn’t even in the conversation all-time, according the facts & my opine, which are one and the same.

Starr played in 6 ‘Superbowls’ any other descript, and, won 5 (1961, 1962, 1965, 1966, 1967, losing by 3 points in their first one, 1960). That’s 5 Superbowl wins and 6 Superbowl appearances in 8 years – when someone else – Brady or anyone else – can match (let alone top) said, get back to me.

Were the rules then what they are today, Len Dawson would have likely passed for 500 tds, while Otis Taylor would have caught 1,500 passes – that’s how ridiculous today’s NFL players ‘bogus’ stats are.

Still waiting (for anyone) to refute facts in lieu their own subjective plea…

          🙂

        • Kerouac says:

Peyton Manning wins yet again and is upon the precipice another Superbowl… he’s like Jason in ‘Friday The 13th’ wearing a Timex watch… keeps on coming back/takes a licking & keeps on ticking.

Btw CG, Brady is only 2-2 vs Manning all-time the post season and Manning leads Brady 2-1 head-to-head AFC Championship Game meetings. I know that too does not matter either, because as you like to ‘imagine’, Brady is the best ever… if only it were true.

          🙂

TJ was really on it last night. As we talked about he is clearly on his way to being a major Hollywood star with all he is doing HBO SPECIAL, NEW MOVIE THE DEADPOOL AND MUCH MORE…the Star gave him a nice write up this past weekend as well..I’m sure next time he is here it will be at a theater his club days are over..we likely were the last stop…he is just getting too big and too much money…great guy for doing xmas here.

  5. Orphan of the Road says:

Gotta give credit to Tom Brady. Second-string backup until fate put him on the field. Every ham-and-egger ought to revere him.

And I love when Bill wears those ratty, NFL-required sweatshirts. I see a tip of the hat to Hank Stram and Tom Landry. Can you image either of those coaching?

K wins the award for most effecting trolling of this site. While I am somewhat disappointed he took the easy path, it is clear he knows the history.

To K, I offer up the best quote of the weekend, from Terry Bradshaw, I’m still trying to figure out that NFL vote on LA.

Isn’t there an app from Apple for Andy’s watch?

  6. Craig says:

I know it’s easy to be an armchair quarterback, but no pass rush usually equals defeat. Reminds me of the times Manning has ripped us apart by not being under any pressure when throwing. Houston not at full strength really hurt us, but the rest of the defense didn’t come through to apply any pressure. No creative blitz package seemed to make up for it, either. Maybe the defensive coordinator deserves some blame there. He didn’t seem to be trying anything different as the game went on. I would have also liked to see more Spencer Ware. Heard he was in for one play. Running the ball more would have shortened the game, which would have been in the Chiefs favor against Brady.

    • CG says:

Wow another Craig on here. Hah. Good comments. The Pats are a 3 1/2 favorite at Denver. I agree with that. I feel Brady should win by more than 6 points…the fact its at Denver will slow him down a bit. Denver defense is good not great. Pats D looked very good to me against our Chiefs. I like Pats to win by at least 6 or more. Panthers/Cards…tough call there. Panthers are a 3 point fav. I agree. I think Cam is just too hard to stop. They are 15-1 for a reason.

We picked Pats/Denver weeks ago and Panthers/ Cards as well…odd the 1/2 teams end up in the finals. Like the rest of the season in end didn’t matter much.

I picked Pats/Panthers in Super Bowl weeks ago.. I love Tom but it will be a tough one. An even match. If they meet. A young Cam against an aging Tom…I’ll watch this coming week but I do lean to Tom…he is just on a mission to finish his career with a 7th Super Bowl and a 5th win. A record that might last for decades or ever. If he can get it done.
