Glazer: They Could Go All The Way!

42599a_medTwenty-two years of waiting for a playoff win is over…

The Chiefs got a monster victory over Houston, a 30-0 shutout. Now it’s on to New England for the divisional game that will set up the AFC Championship in two weeks.

The big win came at a high price. Jeremy Maclin, the Chiefs biggest offensive weapon, got hurt. He has had issues like this before when he was an Eagle. Maclin got hurt late in the game and was clearly in great pain shedding tears and leaving on a cart. Not good.

However rookie wide out Chris Conley came in and Alex Smith hit him for a touchdown. So he will replace Maclin if needed against New England.

The Houston win identifies and proves the Chiefs have the NFL’s best defense.

With five more sacks and four more INT’s the Chiefs dominated the Texans the entire game. In fact, the game opened with a KC 106 yard kickoff return for a TD. Game over. It was the first playoff shutout in 10 years and the second longest kickoff return for a TD in history. Nice.

Once again Alex Smith had trouble with mid-range and long throws. He continues to play the short game and run the ball as much as humanly possible. You can’t argue with a 30-0 win, but the defense won the day in the third quarter. We scored no touchdowns in the first half but the D set us up over and over for field goals.

UT81u1BXX4XXXagOFbXpSo can KC win it all?

Can we beat New England and Tom Brady? Can Alex step up some more? Can we get this offense going now that Macln is likely gone? I think the answer to all those questions is maybe! The Chiefs defense must dominate and is good enough. If they play their best Kansas City can beat anyone. The other guys can’t win if they can’t score.

Smith and the offense will continue to play the safe game. Hey, the Chiefs have won 11 in a row, so why not?

We are just not an offensive monster.

The Chiefs show big play skills at times but not often. It’s get a lead, give the game over to the defense and hang on! And it’s worked so far. New England has lost two in a row, and they have issues. A poor offensive line, no running game and banged up weapons all over the place. So they can be had. Hey, the Chiefs are only a 5 point underdog in Vegas.

Hmmm…

How cool would it be to beat the Pats and face Denver for the AFC title?

Better yet, to come home and face the Steelers at Arrowhead for the right to go to the Superbowl.

It’s been a great ride. The Chiefs already have had an outstanding year. Lets keep it going. Playoff victory. Great work Andy, staff, players and fans. The Chiefs are a WINNER.

You dont have to be an offensive monster in order to exploit the underbelly of a weaker team.

Offense scores points, and defense wins games.

Good win for the Chiefs. That’s what a solid team does to a weaker/very flawed team in the playoffs. In the playoffs, weaknesses are exposed and taken advantage of. That’s what the Chiefs did to the Texans.

    • CG says:

Agreed. However unlike Reid’s first season and that kinda phony 9 game opening win streak, this one has been 11 and against much better quality teams. We have beaten Denver on the road, a good Oakland team twice, Steelers but without Big Ben and Houston twice. So it is more impressive. 11 wins in the NFL in a row is simply a tough ticket anytime.

I really feel KC could get this all done. Again they need to bring that A game defense against the Pats to pull it off.

I heard there may be snow for the game. I think they are expecting 3 to 4 inches, that could really neutralize both passing games. I like our chances better if that’s the case. Spencer Ware seems more conducive to rough weather. I like him better than West anyway. This game is definitely winnable. It will take their best effort to get it done but as we have seen with the Royals…anything can happen.

K is a bit slow this morning firing up his troll wagon.

  5. Jack Springer says:

Please, please, I beg you … give up on football. You no nothing about football.

  6. Furioso says:

Honestly this doesn’t seem like a winnable game for the Chiefs. The Pats are very well rested and they get some of their starters back. And KC lost 1,000 yard WR Maclin. And Belechick and Brady are the best ever. And it’s at their home.

The Chiefs do however have a lot going for them so there’s a small chance for an upset.
    1. Reid is a far, far cry above Crennel, Haley, Shottenheimer, Ganz, Cunningham, 70’s Levy. Herm never got a chance one way or the other. In Chiefs lore Reid is up there with Vermeil and Stram.
    2. Alex may have to run, which he showed he can definitely do in Houston last week.
    3. I won’t go into our defense, it’s awesome. D has to be awesome in Foxboro on Sat*.
    4. NE went 1-2 against the only 3 good teams they played, The rest of their games were easy wins over watered down teams like the Giants, Jets, Buffalo, Colts, Jags, Titans. This might be a huge advantage for the Chiefs.
    5. The Chiefs seem to be like last years Royals: A relentless, unyielding team that simply won’t die.

Okay, there you go a great chance for the Chiefs to put themselves on the map with the upper elite of the NFL.

By the way am I the only one who can’t watch these games on TV anymore? Too many commercials I just keep it on mute 90% of the time and watch Youtube at the same time.

    • CG says:

Points well taken and addressed. Pats will be hard to beat no doubt…commercials are over the top…what 6 to 10 minute breaks unreal…agreed.

    • KCMonarch says:

DVR is the greatest thing that ever happened for watching sports. Set the DVR to record the game, find something constructive to do for the first hour. (Make sure to avoid any device or person who might reveal the score) Then watch the game and fast forward over the commercials.

There is no greater satisfaction than catching up to the end of the game in real time after having watched the whole thing commercial free. And you might even have a clean garage to show for it.

      • Hot Carl says:

I do this for every sporting event and most of the regular TV shows I watch. Whoever the dude is that invented the DVR should be able to drink free for the rest of his life.

        • Jess says:

Agreed, But it is hard to explain to a four year old why you cannot fast forward live tv. It blows my daughter’s mind that all T.V cannot be fast forwarded. I know….first world problems.

  7. heard the ribs at glazes restaurant are out of this world. gotta try them.

  8. Kerouac says:

Is it swiss- er, soup yet? Yup. Patri-cheats advance to Denver, where the Broncos will turn NE into clam chowder next weekend, on their Mile High way to Superbowl 50…

    🙂
