Glazer: Chiefs Looking Good for Playoff Matchup with Houston

Unknown-1San Diego nearly helped KC win the division Sunday…

Had the Chargers beaten Denver, Kansas City would have won the division. However that ship sailed when Peyton Manning entered the game in the second half. He was, well, Peyton Manning. Short throws that set up big runs, and he took the Broncos to a win and the No. 1 seed.

The Chiefs played pretty well against the Raiders until the end of the game and won 23-17.

It shouldn’t have been that close. The Chiefs had some weird penalties at game’s end to keep the Raider drives alive and a muffed field goal kept as well.

The Chiefs were crisp in the first quarter with nice throws from Alex Smith to Jeremy Maclin, Travis Kelce and a couple others. The running game was on fire, including Smith’s runs.

Then the Chiefs offense slowed and an Alex Smith interception that went back for a touchdown made Andy Reid go to his run the clock out mentality and we got saved by a great defensive performance with a blocked punt leading to a safety.

Andy-Reid-Kool-AidSmith got his one TD pass in the second half and the Chiefs held on, as the Raiders were driving for the win with less than two minutes left when the defense finally stopped them.

It was a similar story and score to the last several games.

But hey, WE WON!

Now the Chiefs go to Houston next week as the No. 5 wild card. Had we won the division we’d have played the Steelers here next week. However,  I think Houston is a better game for the Chiefs to win.

Not much new news on the Chiefs.

They are a good, balanced team – good everywhere – not great anywhere. Some NFL playoff teams don’t even have that.

The AFC is wide open. New England lost to Miami, WTF. So they are not the No. 1 one seed, Denver snagged that one. The Bengals look good but beatable. Outside of Tom Brady our guy, Alex Smith may be the No. 2 quarterback in the AFC playoffs. Yes Manning is back, but is he well enough? Does he have the arm? It’s likely the Chiefs will find out if they beat Houston.

Ten wins in a row. No Chiefs team has ever won ten in a row.

So it’s 31 wins in three years for Andy Reid which sounds good. Now if they can just win a few post season games. We can all smile. It was one hell of a comeback season for Reid and the Chiefs. They are a dangerous playoff team. No question.

Let the post season begin with a win for KC.

Alex Smith the #2 qb in the playoffs? 2 time Super Bowl winner Ben Roethlisberger says hello. Alex has been playing well, but lets not get ridiculous. Big Ben missed about half the damn year and still managed to throw for damn near 4000 yards. As it stands, I’d put Alex Smith at #4 out of the 6 guys, if Manning is playing to form. If not, I’d put him #3. (All this assumes that Cinci is still playing their backup, if not drop him to #5)

    1. Tom Brady
    2. Peyton Manning
    3. Ben Roethlisberger
    4. Alex Smith
    5. Brian Hoyer
    6. AJ McCarron

    • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Only thing I would take exception to, Guy, is Peyton Manning. I don’t think anyone knows what he is going to be after the layoff. 5 for 9 and zero touchdowns yesterday doesn’t show me much. His mobility is so bad at this stage in his career. So, he’s a real wildcard. Plus, we assume he’s going to start, right?

After a 1-5 start for the Chiefs, I was sure this season was OVER. I mean, it was! What a great ride to win 10 in a row. Anything else is just icing on the cake. They were dead. The fact that they even HAVE a playoff game is incredible. Credit Big Red.

Still not a Superbowl team, IMO. But, I like their chances in Houston.

      Go Chiefs!

      • CG says:

Agree. I was not thinking Big Ben in playoffs so yeah Alex is number 3. Peyton is a big question mark right now.

        • duh mr. sports guy. . All you do is repeat what others
          say here.
And you were wrong again glaze…”lets boycott arrowhead and the chiefs”…remember that.
you are an idiot when it comes to sports and politics.
when willou you stop pretending to know anything about
anything except hookers…hos and young hotties which
          you never get.
give me one prediction you made that was right
and your football picks sucked in 2015…maybe 30per
          cent correct.
and alex smithbettter than cam newton…..come ondude…do you have a brain?

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

        Jim,
I don’t disagree on your view of Manning. That’s why I had the caveat of “if he’s playing to form”. If he’s as bad as he was before he went to the bench, I’d drop him all the way down to #6. He was that bad. Garbage. Don’t forget, if Cinci gets by Pitt…Andy Dalton will most likely be back playing. Speaking of Pitt, they are limping into the playoffs again with NO RUNNINGBACK. LeVeon Bell is out for the year (again), and DeAngelo Williams went down with an ankle injury yesterday.

    • chuck says:

Ben Rapelesburger should be doing 20 years for rape.

Did anyone at all listen to the testimony given by those girls?

He needs to be in a cell, right next to Jameis Winston.

      What scumbags.

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Same thing was said about the Duke lacrosse team…..at first. There was a reason Roethlisberger wasn’t even arrested, let alone charged.

  2. Kerouac says:

Yet another HORENDOUS effort by the swiss on Sunday: alice smith running but not getting anywhere, ‘Toast’ peters once again getting taken to the burn trauma unit and 2015 coming to its usual end – ‘wait till next year’, now up to part 2016, verse 57…RIP.

It all starts to stink anew Saturday, N(ot your) F(ather’s) L(eague) Steelers by 10 and Texans by 905, all inconsequential of course as it will be the Broncos and Steelers AFC Championship Game… the suspense is definitely not killing anyone.

    🙂

  3. Furioso says:

“Yes Manning is back, but is he well enough?..it’s likely the Chiefs will find out if they beat Houston.”

If the #5 Chiefs beat Houston they will next play AT:
Scenario #1: #1 Denver(if Pitt lose to Bengals)
Scenario #2 #2 Pats (if Pitt beats Bengals)

    • CG says:

Yes Furioso you are right we never see Manning unless we go to AFC title game against them…could happen so many scenarios who knows…Chiefs need to worry bout themselves and beat Houston first then go from there…on the road to Denver or Pats will be uphill for Chiefs…but if we bring our A game or A- game the Chiefs could beat either of them…nobody is rolling right now…in the AFC. I was surprised AZ got jacked so badly by Seahawks…who just got jacked by St. Louis…only the Panthers have been rock solid all year…but they are in the NFC soooo…AFC up for grabs….I think everyone in this thing has a shot…save Houston…in the AFC….The Packers look done in the NFC Aaron isn’t Aaron anymore…at least this year.

      • Furioso says:

This is a great week knowing we’re in the playoffs and we have a wildcard game we can actually win. I think the game is on ESPN on Saturday. Note how both baseball and now football are messing with cable cutters by having some playoff games on ESPN or Fox Sports or TBS. Pretty low but I still cut my cable anyway.

All I know about Houston is KC beat them in week 1 and they have a new QB every week. They only beat one winning team all year and that was surprisingly AT Cincy.

If we can’t beat a weak sister like Houston then I’ll be furious until opening day kickoff in September.

  4. Furioso says:

I still have the Chiefs going to the Superbowl if this scenario plays out:
    Game 1: KC beats Houston
Game 2: KC AT NE: Chiefs beat a weakened/injured Patriots team.
Game 3: KC hosts Steelers for the AFC Championship game? This is possible if the Steelers beat Cincy and then Denver.

Yes, this is a dream scenario but it is possible. Am I worried about the Chiefs first game against under the radar Houston?
    Yeah.

    • CG says:

Hey you never know. I think they have a chance too..one could argue with 10 straight wins they are NFL’s hottest team…we will need that defense to step up every game. I don’t think our offense on its own can score more than two to three touchdowns a game at best…that’s a problem…but if our D is A- level we can beat any one of those guys.

  5. Kerouac says:

As seen/read in an Los Angeles Times poll:

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-poll-who-will-win-super-bowl-50-20160104-htmlstory.html

“Who will win Super Bowl 50?”

    ___ Carolina Panthers
    ___ Denver Broncos
    ___ Arizona Cardinals
    ___ Seattle Seahawks
    ___ Pittsburgh Steelers
    ___ New England Patriots
    ___ Other

‘Other’, as in ‘don’t even rate being named’: ‘the swiss’ by any other, conspicuous their absence.

    🙂

  6. The Word says:

Not Chiefs/NFL related but I have to throw this out there.

Congratulations to the SEC on their 8-2 bowl record. Guys like Danny Kenell, KK, Colin Cowherd wanted to tell you how overrated and over hyped the conference is. Doesn’t seem so down to me.

The Big 12 on the other hand got kicked in the groin again for the second straight time.

I personally think it’s time for Oklahoma to get rid of the Big 12 spread. If you can’t beat them join them. Go the SEC route, defense, big offensive line and power running. If you can consistently recruit 4 to 5 star players this shouldn’t be a problem.

    Good job SEC.

    • CG says:

Yes good points. Big 12 is way down. No defense in the league. None. OU got exposed as a low level top ten team…no better than that. Bama will defeat Clemson so theres that as well. K State being in a bowl game was silly, they didn’t belong and that game showed why…under .500 please.

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

The Big 12 is fast becoming the Big East. A middling football conference, but a basketball powerhouse.

        • The Word says:

I was thinking the same thing. The Big 12 reminds me of the ACC in the ’80s and ’90s. A basketball conference that tries to play football simply because of the region their from. They have one or two football schools but the rest are basketball schools that try to field football because their from the south/Texas.

    • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Hell the SEC won 7 games in the bowls last year.

    • I can’t tell you how glad we are that we left the big 8/9/4….they stink….
no defence…offense only if they play school kids.
and mu now is approaching schools twice their size in money.
the fat man who still believe it was a bad move should shut up and look
at the stats. the big 10/9/6 gets knocked in basketball/football/weresting/
everything. Shut down the big sports program and apply that to the
schooling these big 12 idiots need to get a job at freddys or mc Donald or
at show carnival barking out the 10% deals on old tennis shoes.
      big 12 is a joke….athletically/and academically….and lets finally get
rid of self and his bad piece!

  7. Geronimo says:

K-State was playing with what could be considered their 5th-string quarterback (receiver turned qb). Three QBs ahead of him got hurt; one played worse than him. Most football teams play when invited to a bowl to give underclassmen more practice time and get better. If you look at who wins the games, it’s usually the teams with more 4- and 5-star recruits than anything else. I’d say Iowa was embarrassed more than any other team in their loss to Stanford.

  8. consider the veal tried says:

Bill Snyder just does not have the ability to snatch an elite running QB away from a more prestigious program. They wont go better than 8-4 until he retires.

Not even Colin Klein sould run a sub 4.9 40 at the combine. Until they find another Michael Bishop they are doomed to mediocre.

    • Geronimo says:

Snyder had three QBs get hurt, two of them young and promising. He now has a 4-star QB coming in this spring. He led Fort Osage to the Missouri state championship. Likely one reason he’s coming back.

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

So promising, that Mizzou didn’t even bother to offer him a scholarship. He doesn’t fit Snyder’s quarterback run game at all. He’s skinny and his arm isn’t exactly a cannon. But hey, good luck to the kid. If the home state school doesn’t offer, you gotta go where the scholarship is offered.
