Glazer: Lackluster Chiefs Continue to Win

19452896-mmmainFor the third week in a row the Chiefs played it safe – nearly too safe…

The team’s new game plan seems to be to get a lead near mid game then HOLD ON with its defense. They’ve had almost no second half offense at all with Oakland, Baltimore and now Cleveland. A bunch of handoffs, a couple very short throws, Alex runs a couple and then they punt.

Will this work in the post season? Doubtfull.

Johnny Football ran all over the Chiefs in the second half.

OK, so the Chiefs clinched a playoff spot.

And the Steelers who many considered the second best team in the AFC fell to the lowly Baltimore Ravens. Yes, the team KC beat last week. So unless the Jets who upset New England lose next week, it’s set. Wild cards will be Chiefs and Jets. Well, unless the Chiefs beat Oakland and Denver loses a game, then the Chiefs win the west. So things are still a tiny bit up in the air.

browns28cut-05-1Regardless, give Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid  his staff and the team a big cheer.

They won nine in a row to come back from a 1-5 start to be a post season team. Only a couple teams have ever done that when starting off 1-5. Remember, nobody looks perfect this year. The Panthers blew their perfect season to a non playoff team, the Falcons.

As I mentioned last week, Alex Smith is not trying to go deep at all. The Chiefs are setting themselves up for games they can only win if the other team allows them with turnovers or other mistakes. The Chiefs now count too much on their defense to score or be set up to score.

Our rushing game has come to a halt, only Alex Smith seems to be effective running the ball. Even against a horrible Cleveland defense the Chiefs could not move the ball on the ground or much in the air, the few times they tried.

Hey, this style has gotten them nine wins in a row, a playoff spot and maybe better.

The Chiefs are masters of playing not to lose.

Who knows? Maybe this style will take them deep in the playoffs. Chiefs fans don’t seem to know what to make of this team either. Still the question remains: Is Alex Smith a very good quarterback? Can the Chiefs win big games in the postseason against teams on the road? Can the Chiefs score when behind if they have too? Is their defense for real? Is their pass D good, lucky or a combination of both? Will the Chiefs win a playoff game?

All these questions will be answered in the next few weeks.

Whatever happens it’s been a fun ride when it looked completely over just two months back. So lets sit back and hope for the best.

Happy Holidays.

Oh the Chiefs beat Cleveland 17-13. All our points came in the first half. Our offense did beyond nothing in the second half. Nothing.

STILL WE WON.

“So things are a tiny bit up in the air”.

Yep Glazer, a chance at TWO home playoff games instead of NONE is tiny.

  2. miket says:

still not completely on-board with this team. as you noted cg, still alot of questions, none of which were answered yesterday. but the playoff scenarios are setting up well and actually offer more excitement than their style of play.

i wish them the best of luck… but i’m not holding my breath for them to back into the division title or go deep in the playoffs.

all that said, i actually wore a chiefs sweatshirt yesterday.

  3. Kerouac says:

Yet another HORR-ENDOUS effort by the swiss… a 12-loss team pushed them all over Narrowhead Stadium. Johnny Football & the Browns D-O-M-I-N-A-T-E-D, only more that home-cooking officials & the time/clock stopped them, swiss never did.

Manziel is going to be great, without a doubt. He was the best player on the field, out-rushing the swiss entire backfield rbs, outplaying alice smith, and averaging 10 yards per carry (unlike alice, he didn’t look for a flag from the officials every time someone touched him.)

Broncos, Bengals, Patriots, Texans or Colts and the Jets & Steelers this year’s sorry lot the AFC version farce: ‘best of the worst 2015’ appears to be Broncos & Jets that side, Cardinals the fraud other illegitimate side, NFC.

For the swiss, another ‘wait till next year’ part 2016 verse 54 appends, wasted seasons upon wasted season theirs. One last defeat this Sunday ends another ignominious year.

KC sports: 61 years of no Championships and no legitimacy…

      K-Whack-Jack, answer the following questuons;

      1) Why are you ALWAYS WRONG about EVERYTHING?

      2) Why do you ALWAYS MAKE EXCUSES as to why YOU WERE WRONG in the first place?

      3) How come you HAVE ZERO UNDERSTANDING of today’s football game?

      4) Have you ever seen the game of football played? Your pathetic assessments of today’s teams and players is high comedy!

I’ll hang up and listen off the air.

  5. glaze…too many if and buts in this article.
The chiefs just finished an incredible end run for the season andwill
probably sit out most starters the second half of next week’s game.
They are building to a strong strongteam.
Dee Ford finally gets it and evenif he doesn’t sack the qb he’s in their face most
    of the time.
Peters is the startof the great kc tradition of defensive cornerbacks….he’s
    incredible.
get Houston and tamba back andthats one hell of a defense you have.
On offense…we’re missing Charles obviously but that’s the nfl. The other
two runnershave done a greatjob coming offthe bench and running the ball.
Smith is running the bal l which requires the linebackers to play tighter to the
line and gives the chiefs open space in the middle of the field.
And maclin is about to become a superstar receiver.
This draft has an abundance ofgreat receivers and I could see them going
after Thomas from ohio state. get a great second receiver…use travis…get
Charles back and watch peyton retire and thechiefscontrol the west.
A playoff game may not be much…but lots of teams will be watching them
    on tv instead of playing.
Reid is coach of the year. Alex now understands his strengths and weaknesses.
Reid had to revamp a really sorry team and once he adss more top receivers
and gets Charles back to his previous self….we have the making of a real
    great team.
Why play scrooge all the time? Xmas is over. Your picks have been
horrendous and had the 80,000 people at arrowhead (including myself) arrowhead
would be empty as the chiefs atleast made the playoffs.
AS I told you to say…repeat after me “ITS OVER….ITS OVER….ITS OVER”
sTOP TELLING US THE SAMETHINGS EVERY ANNOUNCES TELLS US.
I NOW GIVE THE FLOOR TO K WHO AGAIN WAS WRONG.
k…..HOW DOES ITFEEL TO BE EVEN WORSE THAN GLAZE IN PICKING
    GAMES….YOU SIR ARE THE WORST.
STATS DON’T WIN GAMES…POINTS DO. bUT EVENTUALLY YOU’LL
    GET 111111111111111111111111111111111 correct.
    Happy new year.

  6. CG says:

K all good points. However 10-5 is just that. It’s likely they will end up 11-5. This Chiefs team in some ways reminds me of the 2014 Royals. ‘Nobody saw them coming.’ Its a strange year in the NFL with all the major stars injured or them losing so many weapons on both sides of the ball. Right now only Arizona looks crazy good. I’m not overlooking the Panthers either but they often don’t dominate or give up a ton of points. New England could still get it done if they get some guys back. The Chiefs as odd as it seems are in the mix for a deep run. Mostly due to their style of play. Reid has decided his D is good enough to take advantage of the other teams mistakes in every game. Clearly has the breaks on Alex Smith and does like him running those 5 to 10 yards for first downs when needed. Alex is great at that. At least early in games.

K as stated the last few weeks, the Chiefs are fairly balanced. However their offense has not stepped up the last 3 games. That is an issue for sure. I was hoping they would work on the deep throws to Maclin, Kelce and other receivers. They have decided not too. I see that it worked to get wins. Andy just felt he didn’t want any turnovers. When Alex threw a few mid ranged passes a couple got intercepted. So he pulled back. He does not trust the longer throws from Smith much. Yes that will make beating teams like New England or the Bengals on the road uphill.

Yet in this crazy year anything is possible even for these Chiefs. K again give them some big credit for making the post season that’s the best thing this team has done in years with what they have. It’s still their best team since Elvis and the 97 unit that went 13-3. Like all of us I am skeptical but lets wait and see.

  7. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Never apologize for a win in the NFL, CG. The Chiefs aren’t even at full-strength. Their 2 Pro-Bowl D-ends watching in street clothes, D’at still dealing with a concussion and Abdullah not playing the last 4 games. During this 9-game winning streak, the Chiefs are giving up an average of 12 points a game. 12!

When Johnny Football wasn’t completing passes to his linemen, he was hitting dirt and guys on the bench with the other 60% of them. After he finishes slapping his girlfriend around a few more times, he’ll drink and drug his way back to mommy and daddy. What a clown.

You have to enjoy the fact that Denver has yet to lock-up a playoff spot. Crazy.

Keep enjoying the ride, CG! The Ravens are HORRIBLE and looked what happened yesterday.

This Chiefs team is NOT going to the Superbowl. Hell, I don’t even think they will win a playoff game. But, why not dream a little?

  8. Glaze….Harley is always right
This story on peyton keeps getting even crazier.
His denial is about as believable as your comments!
Hope tj did well…but why did youo have to give away free tickets to

    • CG says:

  9. Kerouac says:

swiss are a fraud, an joke, as the rest of the NFL & MLB. swiss have played no one and when they do get dominated as yesterday the Browns. Lets repeat that for emphasis… the Browns.

swiss haven’t beaten anyone didn’t get an* DEN: Manning was hurt, swiss still haven’t ever beaten him as a Bronco; Osweiler in his first career start came in late and put up more points in a single quarter/4th than swiss did in any their 4. PIT: Roethlisberger out, 3rd stringer Jones who had never made a start subs in.

As always, we don’t know which illegitimate fraud will win the NFL’s last game season, but as always do know it won’t be the swiss. Same as every season: they play any ‘best of the worst’ NFL team, get their lights punched out… always have & always will. That even the’best of the worst’ winner is a mediocre fraud today’s sports world only serves to highlight just how much more pathetic in comparison the swiss be.

swiss will not make post season… “but, but, they already have” some plead: actuality, they’ve never even been in the game; Kerouac’s sides already ache, anticipation their latest disembowelment.

    • Shawnster says:

But you said we wouldn’t make the playoffs….WRONG.

      But you said we would lose to the Browns-WRONG , Ravens-WRONG, Chargers-WRONG, Raiders-WRONG, Broncos-WRONG, Bills-WRONG, Chargers again-WRONG, Steelers-WRONG.

You said the 2015 Royals wouldn’t make the playoffs-WRONG.

You said the Royals would lose to the Astros-WRONG

You said the Royals would lose to the Bluejays-WRONG.

You said we would lose to the World Series-WRONG.

So who gives a flip about anything you have to say? My dog is more insightful and makes better predictions then you. Simper off troll. Your all done here.

      • Jack Springer says:

Thanks Shawnster for pointing out how CG knows nothing about sports. He needs to stick to entertainment.

      • Frank says:

You don’t see his strategy. He’s like a terrorist. He only has to be right once, and that day will come. And when it does, he will terrorize this message board with the fact that he was right

    • Shawnster says:

If the NFL & MLB are such “frauds and jokes” as you say, why do you watch every week and comment here all the time? The answer is simple-your the fraud. Even you don’t believe the pile of manure you shovel each week.

  10. Kerouac says:

Oh dear, now I’ve gone and upset one of my regular subscribers…

    🙁

Kerouac, Lays Potato Chip of Blogdom – no one cannot ‘not’ read him (they always do!)

    🙂

  11. CG says:

Once again K nobody writes better than you do, but you have to be fair and lately you aren’t…that’s all…you are fun to read…maybe you enjoy making readers upset…

  12. Kerouac is a troll when it comes to the Royals or Chiefs. Don’t feed him.

      • krislke says:

But without the highly predictable back-and-forth between Glazer and Kerouac, with Harley in the mix, Glazer’s post would generate about as much comments as interest. Which would be very little.

But don’t they realize how boring it’s become to read exactly the same crap every time?

Glazer posts about a KC area team with all the insight and inside knowledge of the drunk sitting at the end of the bar who listens to Kietzman all day, drinks all night and thinks he knows far more than he does.

Kerouac answers that all KC teams are frauds. Game on.

        Every. Damned. Time.

No wonder this blog is dying.

        • CG says:

Dying? Seems pretty alive to me. Funny there seems to be as many comments, if thats the measure of success, on most of my stories. On Trump, Hollywood, local entertainment, so on. Sorry you don’t like it.

For some like K and Harley this is clearly an outlet for their thoughts and feelings. For others as well. Most just read the stories and don’t comment. Like most blogs. There are regulars and there are just readers. There are always thousands of readers and a few who like to comment. That’s all.

As for my thoughts? Well I’d like to think I have a bit of a sports background with producing several sports films, heading up too many NFL events to count, and often risking a few bucks on bets in Vegas. But hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I’ve never been a drunk at the end of a bar. But have it your way.

          • Alphonse Tooty says:

33 comments. Half of them you, K and Harley. This blog is already dead.

          • krislke says:

Yep, Glazer. 34 comments so far in just two days! Wow!

And 15 of them by you, Kerouac or Harley.

You sure do know how to draw a crowd!

          • krislke says:

            Yep, Alphonse.

I used to read this blog a lot just to see Hearne make an ass out of himself. Now I drop in every now and then just to watch Glazer make an ass out of himself.

            Call it a guilty pleasure.

          • Kerouac says:

For Kerouac, this is a forum for information & entertainment – both given and received, tho, truth be, He dishes it out a far greater extent, each case to a mob (a small one, case of KCC) mentality unable censor their tormentor.

CG, what it is for a minority (albeit even one is too many) is an grandiose sense of proprietary angst, those can not accept the fact that this is not the realm ‘my way or the highway’, rather confluence diversity streaming together a big ocean of thought, ‘blogdom’. In truth, it’s their sense of ‘powerlessness’ – inability to control another/others – so vexes them, their spirit.

Rather, they play victim, serving (‘being served’) as a puppet some unseen if not unread/unheard marionettist, voice now ensconced ‘in their head’, can neither refrain from, nor ignore reading and commenting – a double impossibility. As Pavlov’s dog, hear the bell and return again and again fix possesses them… addicted.

            Signing off for now,

            Dr. Kerouac

Curse the fate be the ‘superior’ Denver Broncos!

    • Furioso says:

It was the mile high air, it’s why the Broncos will always have a huge advantage at home.

      • Kerouac says:

From the mouth, through the eyes and past the ears and empty headed babes… which does not explain why the Texans beat the Broncos all three times Denver 1960-1962, and, why the Chiefs beat them 6 x in 7 ’63-’69, for 9 wins in 10 vs ‘the air’, there.

70’s, Chiefs lost 7 of 10 there, when – reverse results the 60’s… 1980’s, the Broncos won 8 of 10 vs a by then routinely hapless forerunner today’s swiss, (small c)hiefs; someone call the EPA.

1990’s, swiss chiefs supposed ‘golden era’ (snicker) an by now fully ensconced fraud era pro sports/NFL, 3 wins and 7 losses vs ‘the air’ there.; 2000’s to date, 4 wins and 12 losses there.

So, your air pressure (and grasp reality) may vary compared the part and parcel quality the players each the team(s), any. Extension, must presume was the heavy air Dallas & KC beat Denver 1960’s, even at home (had nothing at tall to do Stram, Dawson, Taylor, Tyrer, Buchanan, Bell, Robinson, et al.

Will that be one lump your excuse cup, or prefer ye another?

KC 12 wins and 34 losses AT Denver since 1970. The Chiefs had a horrible team for 2 decades until Shottenheimer came and made them respectable for 7 years in the 90’s. Since then the Chiefs have been middlin’ with zero playoff wins.

Actually I don’t think the Chiefs have won any playoff games since they won the Super Bowl except Marcus and Montana teamed up to give us a couple.

  17. Kerouac says:

“shottenheimer came and made them respectable for 7 years in the 90’s.”

    – while swiss were being “respectable” (in your opinion; hilarious my take re: yours), Broncos won 2 Superbowl’s in 3 tries same period marty “gentleman, there’s a beam- (offensively, at minimum) er, gleam” schottenhemer’s eyes; it just had to have been ‘the air’ there, nod Denver… ditto Florida and California where they won those SB’s.

“Actually I don’t think the Chiefs have won any playoff games since they won the Super Bowl except Marcus and Montana teamed up to give us a couple.”

    – can’t get anythin’ past the sharp tacks here KCC forum, huh; only, the abundance of air elsewhere never managed stop Elway, Davis, Atwater (okoye still has a headache) Broncos et al wherever they had to travel, play. Here paris of the plains, place football favor forgot, as the swiss can’t reach the mountaintop football, perhaps they can build there own flatlands, stock it with some of that same ‘air there’, Denver…

“Since then the Chiefs have been middlin’ with zero playoff wins.”

    – “middlin'”… belief in said is found filed DSM under group delusion, acute folie à deux by any measure. In a farce of a league horrendous it’s mediocrity, where one those 32 is incapable even a single win since 1993… nuff said. Odds are the Cubs will make it to and win a ‘World Series’ afore the swiss make a Superbowl (win one? Oww, my achin’ sides.)

K is one of Glaze’s sock puppets, since only he responds to him and he always flatters his intelligence even though as humorously pointed out above it reads like freshman critical theory as presented by a histrionic on a call in sports show. Have always been suspicious of Harley as well, though it’s likely he was once real and now is phony. Glaze I hand it to you, excellent scam.

Yep, couple more and we’ll be right up there with the Our Lady of Lourdes Church bulletin! Aim high! Together the 5 of us can do it!

  22. Furioso says:

Heck, I’ll post another. How many of you fine folks think the Chargers will play for pride AT Denver on Sunday?

Anyway, we need the Donkeys to lose for us to have a chance at the #3 spot.

    • CG says:

Not likely and the person who thinks I’m Harley and K…wow…I’d have to be a genius to be both..K is at English Major level writing skills, if I had those I’d have made millions writing scripts and books by myself..as for Harley..well only God knows how he does what he does.

I think KC needs to focus on beating Oakland right now.

      “Heck”

      – fire and brimpebbles…

      “I’ll post another.”

      – time to throw another swiss season on the barbie…

“How many of you fine folks”

      – many imitators, just One, Kerouac: He works alone, sans net…

“think the Chargers will play for pride AT Denver on Sunday?”

      – no, believe they’ll play for a top five draft choice 2016…

      “Anyway, we need the Donkeys”

      – yes; all the local women look prettier aft football season closes…

      “to lose”

      – be penance: to sleep alone the couch a three dog night result a season’s worth of neglect; a KC tradition as local football same going back to the 1960’s (Curtis Mathes tv sets & swiss – the most expensive/over-hyped in America, and darn proud/if embarrassed of/by it)…

“for us to have a chance at the #3 spot.”

      – as McGoohan’s ‘Prisoner’ #6, she is not a number; be a letter, 7th alphabet the spot…

      __________

      Predictions

      BRONCOS (Lombardi) 1913
      Chargers (mailin’ it in) .49¢

      RAIDERS (‘She’s real fine my’) 409 (‘409, giddyup 409’)

don’t see SD upsetting DEN at home. i DO see OAK coming in here and tripping up the Chiefs. hope not, but it would just be sooo Chiefs-like.

Seems like Whitlock isn’t buying KC.

    4) I’m not sold on my Kansas City Chiefs, winners of nine straight.

Andy Reid deserves a lot of praise for getting the Chiefs to 10-5 after a 1-5 start. But so do the schedule-makers and lady luck. Kansas City’s best victories during the streak came against the Steelers and the Broncos. The Chiefs caught Pittsburgh with Landry Jones subbing for Big Ben. And KC hosted Peyton Manning on the worst night of his career, the night Manning got benched.

Other than those two victories, the Chiefs have beat up on teams that haven’t been in playoff contention since Labor Day. OK, that’s an exaggeration. But it’s a bunch of bad teams. During their early season losing streak, KC lost to Denver, Green Bay, Cincinnati and Minnesota.

My Chiefs are overvalued and will get exposed in the playoffs.

Jason Whitlock wrote:”KC hosted Peyton Manning on the worst night of his career”
In reality, KC did not HOST Peyton on his worst night of his career, KC whupped up on Peyton AT Denver’s Mile High.

      Whitlock is still witless.

And you know what, I watched Witless on Colin Cowherd’s show(Whitlock is about the only guest Colin has nowadays. He truly does seem to be a fat, lazy guy who thinks he knows everything about race. Sitting there(yeah, sitting like a gelatinous mass!) on TV with that huge gut and those size 52 pants that are still too small.

I just couldn’t help myself. Anybody else want to chime in on how fat and bigmouthed and lazy Witless is?

      • CG says:

Hey give Jason credit, looks like he is a now a regular on THE HERD and gets paid for that…seems that way…he always ends up somewhere in the national sports world..so tip of the hat to him.

All this Chiefs talk about being over rated…well, I don’t blame anyone for thinking that way. They still have much to prove. Sadly Alex Smith who is the key factor, is likely just not capable of doing enough damage in the post season.

        • Furioso says:

I think they moved the KC game to 4:25 so they’ll be playing at the same time as the SD/Den game.

I was thinking that Andy Reid might rest his starters since he’s already locked a playoff game but that would be a Shottenheimer move so I think not.

SD seemed to have their last hurrah as a team from San Diego with their last home game ever win. Still, this is the AFC West so maybe, just maybe, they’ll go for the W at Mile High.

I’m not sure Alex is the weakest link for KC. Sure, he’s limited but he doesn’t make many mistakes. Andy prolly will have a few tricks up his sleeve for the playoffs.

KC’s D in the playoffs? They don’t quite have to be 1985 Bears great but they do have to be great. Hopefully Justin Huston will be back that would give us a huge bump.

          KC’s WC game: Alex throws 2, West runs 1, and KC’s D scores 1 and we’re advancing.
