Glazer: Chiefs Just Good Enough to Salvage Reid, Dorsey Jobs…Unfortunately

Welcome to Loserville

Its been all Royals all summer and fall as it should have been…

And I’ve certainly been down on our Chiefs. I talked about a possible play off run after a great preseason and the first win over Houston, but then the team fell apart, losing a close one to Denver killed their souls. That was a game they had won. Now they win two in a row and the question is, are they ready to compete?

Reality check:  both of their wins were against low ranking teams.

They beat Pittsburgh without Big Ben (and still nearly lost). And then the blowout win in England over the NFL’s worst team Detroit. However 3-5 would have us tied with Indy for that division lead! Wow.

Yep, with Houston and Jacksonville chasing, seven wins might win that division.

Now the Chiefs face Denver who is 7-0 at Denver, so not likely a win there. Two games remain with Oakland, a rising good team that might make this year’s playoffs as a wild card. I can see no better than one win against them. San Diego is so-so, but as of now better than KC. So lets say we split. Right there are three more loses, maybe more. So We’d have 8 loses just in that stint.

QB Alex Smith has played better, especially when HE runs the ball.

Maybe losing Jamaal helps because it forces the Chiefs to work harder with other players. I see KC winning at least six games now, maybe even seven. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to make the playoffs.

The division winners are all but set. Denver is 7-0; New England undefeated. The Jets still are in the hunt. The Steelers could come back with Big Ben but it’s uphill. Baltimore is in the hunt and of course Oakland. Someone else could get hot.

It looks like eight wins may be good enough for wild card, nine for sure. Indy may still win their division with eight or less wins.

So it’s a mad house out there.

Lord, the NFC is really getting hit. Only the Panthers are undefeated. The Packers had but 77 yards passing against Denver last week, yikes. The Packers will win division but lack of weapons could keep them from a Super Bowl. They need to find another weapon and fast. Atlanta likely a playoff team but has fallen and New Orleans may rise.

john-amos-and-esther-rolle-large-picture_isHey, this is an off week for the Chiefs.

And many of the players will be at Stanford’s this weekend to see former Chief John Amos the humorist movie star from Roots, Die Hard 2, Coming to America and even Good Times with JJ.

Amos does the Chiefs bigger TV spots – great guy – and first time to the stage in KC this weekend. Should be interesting.

I don’t see the Chiefs making the playoffs, but hey, the league is a mess so stranger things can happen.

Unfortunately again, the thing is, likely barring a ton more losses, Alex Smith, head coach Andy Reid and GM John Dorsey will all probably be back next year.

A bye week – as legit Championships never been won past half century plus, KC sports MLB & AFL/NFL – and a bit more time reflection before the swiss take it in the shorts again via Manning/@Denver:

More than half a century a long, laborious labor of verification: not a single untainted by asterisk Championship KC’s history… 46 years and counting/mounting Chiefs, 61 years same the A’s/Royals.

1969* (as legit as Stram’s statement to the contrary post game)

1985* (Denkinger still gets all his meals free whenever he’s in KC)

2015* (as legit as Charles being referred NFL’s all-time leader ypc)

The clarion cry remains unanswered; ‘wait till next year’ Royals/Chiefs, part 2016, verse 62…

CG, some friendly advice for you/anyone else… if reading another’s comments vexes the spirit, common sense suggests do not read it. Shy censorship on KCC & nod Cosell, Kerouac will continue to ‘tell it like it is’.

I think Andy Reid learned a lesson when we demolished the Pats early last season on MNF. That lesson is “dont peak early, peak in December”. It is a smart move but this season a couple of close losses have backfired and possibly ruined our playoff chances. I think Reid is still a good coach but Even if we won those close games were still not good enough to go far in the playoffs.

If Reid and Dorsey are any good they’ll reject the status quo and replace Smith, regardless of the consequences. But will they actually do it? No.
