Glazer: The Unstoppable Kansas City Royals!

TTbzvFSThese Kansas City Royals have delivered on all promises…

We’ve watched these guys grow up to be baseball’s best right in front of our eyes. And seeing the frustration of past years turn into dominance is something dear to behold.

With last night’s destruction of the New York Mets – their best starter and silencing their bats – it’s clear that Kansas City has become a dominant, elite baseball team – a World Champ with no equal. The Royals faced tougher tests from Houston and Toronto. Yes, the Mets are a very good team, but they’re just no match for our never say die Kansas City Royals.

And now it appears highly likely that this series could end in New York with Kansas City getting the two needed victories there to take the crown. They sure have earned  that reward.

Even biased broadcaster Joe Buck was praising the Royals batting lineup as an endless group of tough hitters: “No matter where you are at in this batting order it seems like the middle of their line up.”

Very true, KC has it all.

The chatter will soon begin when its over.

“Is this the best team ever for a Kansas City Pro sports club?”

It may well be.

17607595-standardThis is a post season team that walks on the field expecting  to win, to beat opponents down.

This is a team that has learned that they are never out of a big game.

It’s still not over, but it sure feels that way doesn’t it? You can see it in the eyes of the Mets. “Who are these guys?” Damn, they just don’t stop coming at you.

The heroes on this team’s names are almost endless. Johnny Cueto of course was outstanding last night. Guess in the end with all his ups and downs he was worth the deal. A one year wonder here, but his two big postseason games were worth it.

Now when will that World Championship parade begin?

I’m glad for the people of Kansas City, lord knows we all deserve this and more!

The Royals may very well win the World Series, but it is anything but over!!! I prefer to focus on the ride, not the destination. Some of the most unlikely and jaw-dropping comebacks in the last 2 years. It does feel a little bit like destiny, but there will be no celebrating for me until the last out of the clinching game.

I hate comparing teams and players from different eras. It’s always an apples and oranges argument. I’m content with the fact that this bunch of never-say-die sons*a*bitches is really, really, really good.

Love your passion, CG! KC deserves a World Championship!

  2. Kerouac says:

me·di·o·cre (adjective) of only moderate quality, value, ability, or performance: ordinary, so-so; not very good; welcome to the 2015 World Series.

From the first pitch of Game 1 (which resulted in a 4-base error and run, and not an inside the park home run regardless what the official scorer home-cooking labeled it), to the 14th cup of coffee ended it, a thoroughly boring game. Only Mets & Royals fans might feel differently; to those not emotionally involved or inclined either – BORING.

Most surprising aspect: the pathetic defense played by both KC and NY. Either team could’ve/should’ve won it much earlier in regulation, but as Kerouac predicted, this is a pick ’em series two evenly matched teams with different strengths, neither great an MLB season same. That somebody must eventually win, a relief & foregone conclusion.

Game 2 was better if an aberration: Mets second best pitcher had an off day, and per their usual the opportunistic and relentless Royals took advantage. Now up 2 games to none, KC has the all-important momentum. They accomplished what a home team is expected to/should do: winning on their field more often than not. Winning the first game gave them an advantage; if they are not flukes, they ‘should’ now win the series, but, up 2-0, unless it becomes 4 wins, means nothing… ditto were it the Mets, or any other team, reason why (cliche) ‘they play the games’.

Snapshot to date: as Kerouac foresaw beforehand, the Mets questionable hitting has been as expected, if even worse than predicted. As KC’s starting pitching is, frankly, not much to get excited about, credit given to the Royals is not as much as the Mets lack of offense is solely on themselves. If the Royals can win game 3 & beat the Mets best pitcher (my opine) Syndergaard, KC will not likely lose 4 straight… faint praise though it be due the sorry quality MLB 2015, as NFL same.

The Royals have never legitimately won a World Series, needing Denkinger’s missed call ’85; Chiefs too have never won an non-controversial World Championship, 1969 team theirs beneficiaries a special one-year playoff only format that, shy said would have seen them sent home aft the final regular season game. That the Royals aren’t on par baseball’s best teams historically is beside the point (they aren’t even in that conversation), but when your team/town has been a doormat for 30 years baseball, and even longer, 46 in football, take it anyway before they check it for authenticity, and thank your lucky stars and good fortune.

Kerouac predicted the Mets will win it all… will stick with that choice.

    🙂

    • CG says:

Come on K, usually I agree with you but give these guys credit…baseball has changed..this is the modern super team…fast, good D, all players can hit, balanced…great bullpen…now come on these guys are very good, very good. Maybe in their own way great…they will win it all K..Be fair. Things change and the Royals currently have a solid even strong organization thanks to Dayton and Ned….

      • Kerouac says:

        COMMENTARY

If Kerouac felt credit was justified, would give it… as do not, no can do – the genuine is always distinguishable from counterfeit, the special from the mediocre, quality from run of the mill.

It isn’t a problem or concern mine whether anyone or everyone agrees with my opinion(s) – all are entitled theirs as I am mine. Shy a ‘mob mentality’ prevalent online world same as off, all will be heard; those who would seek to silence and/or censor opines they do not agree with far more troubling opinions themselves.

Also duly note the ‘conversations’ engendered via said – that the intent, the hope… mission not impossible, mission accomplished. Information & entertainment the reason Kerouac reads, writes and comes to KCC. That he has copious fun in doing so the thing makes it worth his time.

Former faves mine the Dodgers won an World Series in 1988… that they managed to do so despite not really belonging on the same field the Oakland A’s, earlier affirmation that ‘better’ is in reality no more than a cheek kissed by fate having visited them.
2015 WS, one of them will ‘win’ it as ’twere – neither be worthy sports renown outside the confines they/their fandom’s insular world. All to say: keep those cards, letters and internet swipes / jibes comin’!

        🙂

    • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Kerouac also predicted the Astros would win. Predictions from said prognosticator not considered a high value target. (my opine)

    • kriskle says:

You know, Kerouac, I wrote what I thought was a very gracious post not so long ago, congratulating your Giants on their great World Series win last year. I don’t think I bothered to cite their place in baseball history, or to cite all the things “mediocre” about that team (and there are many if you take off your Homer glasses). They got the World Series trophy and they earned it.

So why are you compelled to bring Royals fans down? Not only that, but you have to crap on the 30-year-old World Series win, and the 45-year-old Super Bowl win to boot?

Do you think that makes you sound intelligent? I can’t even imagine why you wrote that. Maybe it makes you feel better about something I can’t even imagine to put down the Royals, but I kinda feel sorry for you if it does.

And if you truly think something is wrong with the Royals’ defense, well, you just exposed yourself.

As for “predictions”, I made none. I still stand by that. Since I do actually pay attention, I’ve learned over the years than anything can happen, and often does. The Mets didn’t get here by accident or fluke. They are good enough to win 4 of the next 5.

Tonight, they have a very good rookie pitcher going with the weight of the world on his shoulders. If he rises to the occasion, I will be one of many Royals fans to tip my hat to him. But we got a pretty good guy going, and I like our guys chances.

Now go ahead and tell me how foolish I am for enjoying such a “mediocre” team.

  3. CG says:

As has been stated many times here…everyone is entitled to their opinion. That’s what these sites are about. However when you make personal attacks, which many of you do, then that changes the game. I don’t see any writers on here attacking anyone for no reason. The comment section lives for that unfortunately. Way it is…

    • Kerouac says:

My post above after your earlier one iterates the same, CG… in the parlance, known as a territorial thing: Kerouac is a sporting infidel adheres to a religion not spelled R-o-y-a-l-s; that he is amused by those cannot accept that, sate.

      On with the show.

      🙂

      • Kriskle says:

You know what’s worse than a stupid, uninformed opinion.

It’s a guy so lacking in any sense of responsibility and any intellectual curiosity that he hides behind “it’s just my opinion, and my opinion is as good as anyone’s” when he is called out for his stupid, uninformed opinion.

Yes, Kerouac, any idiot gets to say anything he wants in a forum such as this. That doesn’t make what you wrote above any less stupid and uninformed. And pathetic, if that is indeed how you get your jollies.

        • Kerouac says:

An ‘unspeakably wounded’ Kerouac rejoinders, “having a bad last 30/46 years, are you?”

          🙂

          • Kriskle says:

No, actually Kerouac, I am having the time of my life enjoying my ball team’s fantastic ride, no matter how it ends.

But as long as we are speculating about each other’s lives,. here you are, just one year after your team won it all, and you are back to being so bitter about life that you can’t stand to see anyone else having fun.

          • Stomper says:

Right there with you, Kriskle. Kerouac seems to be the poster child for a glass half empty KC sports commenter, certainly not a fan. His pleasure is raining on the parade of those of us who support the home town teams and doing so in the third person.

        • Kerouac says:

“I am having the time of my life”

          – yet find ample time spend here, with Kerouac; Cioran comes to mind… help yourself:

“Does our ferocity not derive from the fact that, our instincts are all too interested in other people? If we attended more to ourselves and became the center, the object of our murderous inclinations, the sum of our intolerances would diminish.”

          🙂

    • KCMonarch says:

Glazier, Climb down off that Clydesdale you hypocrite. Your history of personal attacks and threats of violence against commenters is long and well documented.

You are the worst of us all. Own it.

  4. miket. says:

k-rac just laments the good ol’ days. even if the topic isn’t about sports, he’ll somehow manage to break into his usual mantra about parity in the leagues, no team today is as good as one from the 60s or 70s or whatever decade seems to work for the sport in question, and that KC teams mediocre at best-no reason to get excited-so you’re just wasting time and energy on them-schtick. killjoy. spoilsport.

so, knowing what to expect, i learned to either not read his exhortations, or i read them with idea that he’s kinda like a bizarro Harley and not put much into what he says.

(disclaimer: i do tho’ totally agree with him about analog sound – the vinyl, reel-to-reel, etc.)

prediction(s): extra innings tonight or a blowout. mets know the stakes. should be an awesome game. slugfest or pitchers duel?

    • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Oh no, no, no Miket. I’ve done staked the claim to BizzaroWorldHarley. Hence, a.k.a BWH

    • Kerouac says:

A vintage football adage, ’40 for 60’… Kerouac prefers to lament the good old days rather than embrace the losers lament, ’30 and 46 = 76′ Kansas City…

      🙂

  5. Kriskle says:

    Here’s an NFL/AFL history lesson.

Though the 1966 season, both leagues had two divisions. There were no “playoffs”. The champion of each division went directly to the championship game.

Then through expansion (Falcons in ’66, Saints in ’67), the NFL broke into four divisions, with the champion of each advancing to a semifinal game.

The AFL, even after adding Miami and Cincinnati, continued with the two-division setup and the single championship game until 1969, when the two second place teams were added to a new two-tier playoff system that matched the NFL’s.

Then after the merger, the two leagues realigned and both the new NFC and the new AFC were divided into three divisions, with “wild cards” advancing to the playoffs in each conference. That lasted until 1978 when a second “wild card” was added to the playoffs in each conference.

So while it is accurate to say that the AFL “wild card” was a one year thing, that’s only because the AFL ceased to exist after that one year, and the AFL attempted to match the NFL’s two-tiered playoff system — which was, of course, a TV ratings bonanza.

And if, of course, championships won by “wild card” teams are somewhat tainted, I present to you the 2014 San Francisco Giants.

Again, I stress that there was nothing tainted about that win at all. They took on all comers, and beat them.

  6. Kerouac says:

“The AFL, even after adding Miami and Cincinnati, continued with the two-division setup and the single championship game until 1969, when the two second place teams were added to a new two-tier playoff system that matched the NFL’s.”

    – translation: the AFL $old out, and it’s been downhill ever since, football as baseball…

The GIANTS 2014 World Championship indeed is tainted and diminished, as is every team & season WS winner/loser MLB since 1969 (and football same) when, instead of one ‘winner take all’ from each league, extra divi$ion$ were added – express reason in order to make money. The NFL/MLB refer to it as ‘fan intere$t’, keeping it alive; you fandumb say, “how high do you want u$ to jump?”

MLB, GIANTS hadn’t won diddly squat since 1954, now have 3 Championships in the last 5 years… that they couldn’t carry the shoes teams yesteryear, ones made up only creme de la creme, immaterial today’s $cheme. Throw ’em a bone every now & then, keep the illu$ion alive that parity makes for legit, world sports teams & winners, i.e., Championship(s), & we can continue milking thi$. Participation awards if not Tiffany-made trophies for every team – cha-cha-ching! And in unison fandumb said, ‘wait till next year!’. Always next year, if nothing more. Sooner or later, fate just has to step in & kiss the cheek every team, right? Maybe it’s Royals 2015, or the Mets. But what of the Chiefs, for example? Shh! and $hh.

    1970

    1985

That as a result the game(s) has(ve) diminished, be$ide the point: MLB ownership in unison affirm via incantation: “we’re in the money, we’re in the money!” And the fans release their ankles if but for a moment, re-open their wallet$, and pour forth “Amen” and ‘wait till next year’, part XX, verse XX’.

An interest in nothing more $heeple fandom continue to pay the ‘fare’ (if unfair share, due ever increasing salaries & various other costs.) What a racket, what a shakedown wherein the hand willingly reaches for the back hip pocket. In a watered down sports world that embraces ‘no team left behind’ hocu$s-pocu$ – ditto the stadiums/tenancy a city, fandumb/local government cantilates ‘my team has a chance, so don’t go, stay – we’ll pay!’ See Chargers, Raiders, Rams for the latest episodes, ongoing.

The swiss chiefs have had a chance, each & every also-ran season theirs since 1970. Maybe ’15 is the year? No, but always there is ‘next year.’ If it were a ‘Twilight Zone’ episode, “No change! No change at all!” reward system fandumb continues to pay for and through the nose as well heartstrings theirs, alas, a love story no longer believe: the swiss chiefs, Jets, Browns & Lions exhibits A, B, C & D, Bengals & Chargers right behind them an “when comes our turn?” chorus, handout line full of empty hands.

Perhaps if- check that, ‘when’ the NFL ‘expands’ further, adds another one/ten teams, bottom-feeders swiss/the rest will at least feel like Champions comparison the ‘newer’ lesser’s, if still but pretenders shy fate kissing their cheek, as it kissed cross lot Royals, finally. The fact it took the latter 29 years to even get there, 30 years now and still but an also-ran, cannot make up for the lost years & hopes, cost an generation of fans once lived but are now extinguished in spirit if not in fact their lives, sans receiving a return on their investment.

This is the bait and switch model used today, only now, formula has been bastardized further, ‘additional’ teams NFL, MLB & other added post seasons, in order make even MORE $ – a “TV ratings bonanza” for $ure, if no longer a matter the games (variously) having any integrity, ‘when it was just a game’ become passe, once upon a better time, long ago.

More teams, more players, less quality but more fan attention be pre$erved keeps the gray train going (NFL, “don’t hit the QB too hard, he is too expen$ive to replace in our already watered down league filled too many teams and borderline weekend warriors.” Lamar Hunt’s AFL was once an true need fulfilled, realized… today, that idea has been raped in the pursuit money. The $traw that $tir$ drink$ ‘post season dreams’ (verses 46 and 30 in KC, last check) keep$ wallet$ $tiring.

Reason why in LA, the Guggenheim Dodgers have no worries continuing the charade ‘this is our year’ (now up to part 2016, verse 28) , because nigh on 4 million fan$ still buy into the $hell game, annually. The comedy 🙂 & tragedy 🙁 of modern $port$ makes for $ucker$’ wallet and emotions, numbering in the million$ each season. Why Kerouac says, one person’s definition of bitterness is another’s understanding the $ad reality of sports today: go Mets, Royals, Chiefs, whomever; and like a frog in a pan of water the heat gradually rising, they all said in unison, amen… cha-cha-ching.

  7. CFPCowboy says:

Damn dude: Would you quit penning these notices? The Royals tend to lose after every article. No more articles until the world series is ours.

  8. Kerouac says:

Eat some dirt Escobar (he did), you too Moose-talk-us too much from the bench (him / the rest, talk far too little in game, at plate)

    Mets 9 ~ Royal(ly undun)s 3

Umm, you good friend Lone Avenger Noah, unmasked them Kansas City squaws for what they are. Them talk heap big smack the bench, but, wilt like 10 cent orchid the battlefield. Those back up their talk, ‘walk’ their talk – Syndergaard – Mets heap big flamethrower.

From the first pitch the game, a statement: you will not prevail on this night. Different than KC’s fluky Game 1 first pitch fly ball which fell for an error & a run (if not a home run nod official homecooked KC scorekeeper Stevie Wonder.) Noah’s Ark Syndergaard stands 6’5 : he stood there 1st base aft getting a base hit, and made Hosmer look as an insignificant child, a point guard trying guard a Chamberlain; ditto a plate, the Royals.
    ______________

The show off the field aft the show on it: when Syndergaard was informed players on the Royals were mighty upset with him, he replied: “If they have a problem with me throwing inside, they can meet me 60 feet, 6 inches away.,”

    D’OH!

    GAME ON!

AN OPEN INVITATION CHARGE THE MOUND!

That KC did not discretion being the better part valor.

Nod commercial jingle, “Wimpy wimpy, wimpy wimpy, wimpy wimpy!”

The ‘on second thought(s)’ (as in we’re having them) also fleeing from the game terms competitiveness, KC decided to take a pass, in deference their health. Then, preceded to get wiped out anyhow in the process afield (if ‘not’ name game, spouted KC’s bench during the contest, and, a testosterone-filled same Syndergaard’s ‘knock this battery off my shoulder’ Bob Conrad tack aft.

If it were a song, Kansas City players reaction to New York Syndergaard’s triple-digit chin-music, would be ‘He Touched Me’, Barbara Streisand:

“He touched me (almost lost my head), he touched me (’cause we couldn’t touch him, with the bat), and suddenly (100 mph fastballs) nothing, nothing is: the saaaaaame!”

    Royals lead the Series 2-1

    🙂

    • kriskle says:

Yes, and as the feeble-minded quickly forget, after that “purpose” pitch, the Royals were so intimidated that they got six hits and three runs off the guy in the first two innings.

Kudos to Syndergaard for settling down and going four more innings. He avoided a very early shower.

  9. kriskle says:

You know what the next best thing to your team winning a World Series game would be?

It would be your team losing a World Series game.

28 other teams don’t have the opportunity.

  10. Kerouac says:

WS as Superbowls, wonder if Marv Levy’s 0-4 Bills & Bud Grant’s 0-4 Vikings agree…

    🙂

  11. CG says:

Well boys as you can see we won and are now 3-1 series over. Royals will be champs…as we talked about two weeks back. Oh and the break down of WHY matches what we wrote … the line up, defense, bullpen … I’ll say it again both Houston and Toronto were better teams…the Mets D is poor, they have a few good hitters but overall don’t match KC…starting pitching is equal but bullpen of Met a no go…Royals are just a better team as we explained a couple weeks back. And the winner as we said a couple weeks back. Thank you. Haters what have you got to say now?

    • CG says:

Am I still jinxing the Royals? I think not.

      • Kerouac says:

(PS) CG, as there were no football picks here on KCC yesterday or today, allow Kerouac provide an important update:

The swiss won a game today (no seriously, stifle those guffaws, they really did – had to travel overseas to a foreign country do so, located a reasonable facsimile their little sister, managed to outlaugh- er, outlast the Lions.

Tickets, get your swiss Superbowl tickets…

        🙂

    • Kerouac says:

Q: What do you call a Kansas City Royal with a World Series ring?

      A: a thief
      ~

      “series over”

      – the pressure (or maybe the interminable wait) is getting to you, CG… nod ‘Tommy Boy’, “hold on there Lee Harvey” before you assassinate/bury NY.
1985 was an long, Long, LONG time ago, but, tapping heels together thrice, repeating there’s no place like home & imagining being back Kansas (City), Champions, a bit premature.

Mets are in great shape: their top 3 pitchers are lined up to pitch, 2 (tonight’s starter Harvey & Syndergaard) have already gotten the better of the Royals, even sans those two not even having had their ‘A’ games the previous games.
The other, deGrom, has actually pitched better down the stretch than either the aforementioned. If- check that, ‘when’ NY takes Game 6, tonight, will be deGrom & Syndergaard back to back in KC. 🙂

Five games in, NY has won 1, KC has won 1, and 2 games were given away by the Mets. It is now an three game season, max, one at minimum, two middlin’.
As do you the Royals, Kerouac likes the Mets chances very much.

Regardless who wins, what is clear is these are two of the poorest teams reach the World Series, recent memory. Horrible defense by each has been evident throughout. MVP so far the series? May not be one… no one has stood out.

      🙂

      • kriskle says:

Kerouac, I’ll give you the attention you so desperately crave. Nobody could write something that stupid for any other reason.

I do want to note that I still make no predictions. Sports are still played by human beings and anything can happen.

But I sure bet the Mets have put in an emergency order for new jerseys. The ones they are wearing seem to be a little tight in the collar.

        • homer says:

In addition to being the sorriest loser ever, Kerouac is a world-class comedian: “Mets are in great shape…” BRRRHHAAAAAA!!!!!!

      • Kerouac says:

As Kerouac said, KC a “thief” who stole the WS…

        1985

        🙂

  12. Kerouac says:

    Like clockwork…

    🙂

  13. CG says:

I didn’t do picks cause they have been up late will do next week, had two winners in college with Fla St. and Clemson on a tease and lost Notre Dame they didn’t cover…today have Bengals Plus 6 in a tease with St. Louis -1 and also like Az over Cleveland -1 on tease with Bengals…haven’t picked late games..yet…

  14. CG says:

Congrats to Kansas City Royals, the Fans, the players and the people of KC. Lord knows they deserved it. Turns out all the breakdowns here were dead on and the Royals evolved into a great team before our eyes. They are baseballs best and have given our city something we haven’t had in nearly a lifetime. A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

  15. Kerouac says:

Congratulations to ‘THE’ ‘WORLD CHAMPION’… The best team in baseball 2015? Was none. The NY Mets, who gave away 3 games in this year’s WS while winning 1 (same as the equally mediocre 1 win opponent theirs the KC Royals), concluded the poorest fall classic in memory. After careful consideration, a special dispensation was announced by MLB: it has declared the title vacant this season, as neither team present stepped up to win the required 4 games. In lieu, MLB announced ‘THE’ WORLD CHAMPION’ SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS will reign as Champions another season.

Both bitterly disappointed teams the 2015 WS vowed to try again 2016, NY looking for its first win in 30 years while KC will continue to pursue its first in 31 years. A compromise was suggested that ‘Co’-Champions be designated, but neither team agreed as each feels they are slightly less mediocre than the other.

While the Mets starting pitching was clearly dominant, their hitting & defense clearly not; other side was no better, KC’s hitting better and bullpen marginally so, but shy NY’s defensive-gaffe gifts, neither team could ever manage to win a second game. Thus, the series ended tied 1-1 with 3 games tossed out due defensive lapses that turned Met victories into narrow escapes for KC. Voting for series MVP also was canceled, as no one could keep a straight face while trying to name a single player who stood out (for the record, the Mets Matt Harvey did receive more votes than any other player on the Mets or Royals.)

No parades are scheduled to be held in either city; everyone will just return to work tomorrow and wonder when the Championship drought both cities will end. On a positive note, fandom both sides has grown to love wearing their colorful team-colored paper bags over their heads… they’ll be meeting at a neutral site and argue which team’s blue is the more vibrant. Several fans were heard after the game stating they will be rooting for a new team in 2016, with most claiming the SF GIANTS and STL Cardinals as new faves.

Game 5 hi-lites: there were none, just the usual low-lites/more of the same horrendous defense etc. both KC & NY came to be known for this WS. Worst performance in a starting role, defense hi-jinks was a tie between NY’s Cespedes & Murphy & KC’s Hosmer, with Mets Wright & Duda and Royals Moostakas & Morales runners-up. So another year unrequited hopes finishes for the Royals & Mets… spring training and ‘wait till next year’ part 31 Royals/30 Mets can’t come soon enough.

    Goodnight everybody!

    🙂
