Paul Wilson: Why No Arrest in Zocalo-Plaza Military Officer Beat Down?

Zocalo-high-resJust after midnight on the morning of Sept. 19, Police were called to Zocalo Mexican Restaurant on The Plaza in reference to an assault…

A 37 year old Captain, stationed at Fort Leavenworth for a 12 week training mission, was savagely beaten by six black men.

Why? According to eyewitnesses, the Officer brushed the shoulder of one of the men making his way through the crowd. If you’ve ever been to Zocalo, it’s pretty tight when it’s busy. And I would challenge you to make a bathroom run or find your way to the bar and not “brush” someone along the way.

However in today’s world, in certain demographics, that’s not simply a brush in a crowded restaurant, it’s “disrespect.”

And “Disrespect” can get you shot or beaten half to death.

The man who started the ruckus with the Officer was kicked out of Zolcalo, but he did what most do in that case. He assembled a team of 5 friends to wait for the officer to come out.

This has become the Plaza theme – pack mentality, safety in numbers.

The six men waiting to attack this officer had the same level of courage anonymous comment trolls do. No strength of character to take someone on, one on one, in the light of day. Why? It’s analogous to Mike Tyson’s response when asked about his opponents plan for beating him in a match.

Tyson replied, “Everyone has a plan…’till you hit ‘um in the mouth.”

Comment trolls and these six thugs aren’t going to take the chance of getting hit in the mouth. They simply rely on bully techniques to assure a safe outcome. Neither they nor cowards hiding under fictitious names have the balls to take that chance in the real world.

It’s been more than two weeks since the event and still no arrest and the case remains “under investigation” by Kansas City Police.

What clues are the police going from? For one, the assailant left his open tab and a debit card behind. Now, I don’t want to go out on a limb, but that has to be a fairly substantial clue. Rest assured, if that was me and I left a debit card behind, KCMO would have already called JoCo and I would be on my way to the Jackson County jail for questioning!

But in this case, the police have not said if that has led to anything fruitful or not.

As for the Captain, he was transported to the base following treatment at St. Luke’s Hospital for several injuries, including optic nerve damage, a skull fracture and air on the brain.

One of the Captain’s family members believed he was targeted for being a member of the military. I frankly don’t think the thugs knew that or cared. It’s nothing more than the pack mentality and the root cause for so much inner city violence – disrespect.

When you have all your self worth stripped by the system, the economy, the breakdown of the inner city family unit, “respect” is all you have left. And that’s in short supply.

A case from last year is back in the news as it goes to court.  A Massachusetts teenager, Philip Chism is accused of raping and murdering his teacher, 24 year old Colleen Ritzer, after being asked to stay after school to study. Chism was 14-years-old at the time, a freshman in high school.

Ritzer’s body was found in the woods, partially covered by leaves, torn open with a box cutter. A note was left with the body that read “I hate you all” – the chilling words of testimony as to motive?

“After she insulted me, that’s when I became the teacher.”

He was asked to stay after school to do homework. That equated to an insult. An insult is disrespect. This Officer “brushed” another man in Zocalo. That equals disrespect.

Where is this going to end and when are the police going to take action on this case?

What motive could the police possibly have for not already making an arrest? It can’t be the avoiding the acknowledgment of more Plaza black crime. Leaving it unaddressed is providing far more attention in the media.

So….what say you; what are they waiting for?

  1. the dude says:

More outrage probably and media scrutiny. This goes along with the stick your head in the sand and hope the smoke clears mentality to dealing with violence on the plaza by the ckmo police and media. If it was not for your article wilsun, I would have never heard of this incident. Seriously, try and look this story up, I was only able to find one reference on the web. This kind of cowardly crap is going to blow up in their collective faces very soon.

    • paulwilsonkc says:

Thanks, that’s why I wrote it.
It’s getting little attention and I think the police/plaza motive or “strategery” is, don’t talk about it, give it 4 days and its off the radar.
People move on to the next event.

  2. hou eaarley says:

it was on the news tv stations..thats how I found out about it.
but if I was governor/military/mayour…I would put the toughest meanest
detectives fbi etc.ontghis case. this wasabunch of drunksaccoring to the
people I spoke with at the bar severaldays later.
    but 6 on 1 doesn’t cut it.
the police manytimes are hampered by witnesses scared to give info they may
have seen or noticed…..but Harley is on this one….Harley knows the peole
to make this happen and find the perpetrators.
as far as the cards…probably stolen…
the might have a case…but need the snitches to break down on exactly what
happened. that may cause the delay.
Harley has haddinner at zocala several times and never saw anytning close to
    this.
they will find the dudes……these guys protect their own. mark my word.

  3. hou eaarley says:

this was too many people drinking too much alchol.
is there a law that limits how much a bartend der can servce an
individual if he can see he’s drunk.
    don’t know the law.
but like wislon….I’m sure the big boys are on this.
adiscgrace that a man who has given his time for this nation
has to succumbto this type of behavior.
    but alcoholdoes funnythings………….
    justice will be served…..

  4. hou eaarley says:

what happended to the friends of the military guy who saw this whole
    thing
did they help his buddy? a beating likethis can take at least 2 mintues and where
were the guys buddies while he was getting beaten…no one says….
Wilson…that would be interstin to see where hisbuddies were while he
    was nearly killed…
and I think these special laws on the plaza for the streets of the plazaand which
    enforcement agencies are responsible.
when I bounced at a bar we were told to get the fighters out of the bar and on
the street because then itwasa localpolice problem…..please verify this…thanks.

  5. paulwilsonkc says:

“The man was kicked out by restaurant management. When one of the captains, who was not in uniform at the time, later left the restaurant, he was met by the man and five others who appeared to be looking for a fight.

The man punched the soldier, according to police. The other five individuals then piled on and began punching and kicking the soldier while he was on the ground.

Two friends of soldier were injured in fight

Friends of the soldier heard the commotion and came to help.

Two of them were injured in the scuffle. The suspects jumped into a white car and fled from the scene.”

  6. chuck says:

The cops are doing zilch on this. Can anyone imagine, just imagine, the news coverage, the media outrage, the apoplyptic

  7. chuck says:

Oops. The dog jumped on my lap.

    🙂

As I was saying before “treat time”, can anyone imagine the outrage, the apoplectic media talking heads, the coverage, the commentaries from National Media, if the situation were reversed and 6 white guys, jumped a black man on the Plaza?

I mean, Jesus! KCI would be backed up for hours with incoming soldiers of the 4th estate, here to right unrightable wrongs and no doubt the DOJ would get involved and there would be fuck8ing hell to pay.

    What a joke.

Reminds me of the “Sicilian Scene” in “True Romance” At 3:10, Walken tells Hopper that his son, “Fu*khead that he is, left his drivers license in the dead mans hand.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3yon2GyoiM

Funny stuff in the movies, not so much on the Plaza.

    Nice article Paul!

  8. KCMonarch says:

The double standard has gotten way out of hand. I recently read an article about the Colorado football coach having to publicly apologize for pushing one of his assistant coaches off of the football field during an argument with game officials.

I have watched a lot of football and this situation is not completely uncommon.

Now why in this particular case was the head coach pressured to apologize to the whole world for it? Hint: your first inclination is most likely correct.

  9. Newbaumturk says:

The guy is white so Jackson County doesn’t care. Just like Harry Stone, Jeff Mcdonald, and the kids ki in the parking garage at P&L. I hope someone in command at Ft. Leavenworth has friends in high places and can pull some strings to get this rectified. The can’t believe there weren’t 10 people standing there with their cameras out.

    • Newbaumturk says:

Should say “kid killed” in p&l parking garage

      • paulwilsonkc says:

I don’t know its just that he’s white, but I’m betting that plays a part. I think “The Plaza” plays a part.

        • uhou eaarley says:

          again…Wilson…another article just like the
cobblers that few people knew about and few
          people care about.
we want you tube videos…we want live action…
a bunch of drunks (which I learnedfrom those
who were there_) get in afight…a military guy

          • uhou eaarley says:

get his ass kicked…and intodays world that’s
            not really news.
the only news is that it happended on the
plaza…where old guys shouldn’t be gong because
            they think its awar zone.
In other words wislon…when I did my research
and actually saw that there was little coverage
of the whole event…I just figured no one
cared and it wasn’t a big headline to get viewers or readersfor the media.
Another faceplant by you. another shoe story…
except for the old men at kcc who think the
world is falling apart because some black
kids come on the plaza on Saturdays.
Like I said before…stay home. The places
in kc are doing well. They don’t need your
nickels and dimes….there are waiting lines
at many of the better restaurants on the plaza…
they’re doing fine without your non new coverage as lois lane.
I was mad because it was a military guy
but was he in uniform so they would know he
served his nation (unlike the many on kcc who
got deferments/flat feet when it came time
to serve during the time of the draft….except for
            chuck who didserve?_)
Get used to it wislon…your stories really are
not made for mass media…they’re for the
            guys onkcc.
The mediadidn’t cover it because its not
newsworthy…..bar fights happen all the time
but I agree…this one should have gotten more
            ink….but it didn’t
move on….this story is almost as bad as th
rest of the stories on kcc. And even more poorly written with many facts left out.
Chillicothe and Sedalia…this is big news..
            kc…just another bar fight.
get real about todays media…unless its
trump or carson making stupid ass statements
about issues no one cares about…it gets no
            real coverage.
wheres all the stories today about the student
killings in the northwest. Most are gone and
forgotten. that’s life for todays 24/7 news
            cycle.

  10. uhou eaarley says:

    googled the story…
all persons involved were intoxicated….including military men.
military men were not in uniform sohow could the others know they were
    in the military.
are military men allowed to carry weapons off base…because I’m sure if they
were carrying this story would have been a real story as the military guys
used their weapons on the perpetrators.
Looks like the black guys were pretty tough. They took on either four or five
military people and it looks like they did some serious damage….apparently
tgese were not some small time punks…they were tough guys who took on the
    military boys.
investigationstill on….but little media coverage because police prefer to keep
their investigations out of the news. And whatamazaed me was there wasno
video of this fight. I would think the plaza would be flooded with videos
on every corner in case of incidents like this.
We’ve been to zocala several times…never saw a problem even with a
mixed racial crowd. Somethingwent wrong…something was said to
    have this type of incident.
Any witnesses…yes….probably hundreds as that place is busy.
Itslocated at the corner of a well traaveled area with cars driving down
    the connecting street.
Hope theyfind what happened…or maybe just a bunch of drunks going at
it. The angle is the captian….because if this was just a brawl I doubt it
would have madeany news. That the victim whogot hurtwas a military
officer made it news because they always refer to his rank in media.
However the plaza is still rolling….dudes…stay away…theydon’t need
your business and your constant howling about how bad things are
in ourgreat city. If you don’t like go to waldo and hang with chuck.
Truth is I’ve seen more andbigger fights in waldo and Westport with white
guys than anything like thiss biracial mess.
Again Wilson barks up another bad tree!!!!!!!!! ruf! ruf! ruf!!!!!
too bad it happened…but if they all were drunk they need to control the
alcohol consumption of people like this.
And speaking of café trio…there have been some fights there too. a little
alcohol can cause some serious problems.

Anonymous comment trolls.. PLEEEEEAAASSEEEEEE bad enough with one Glazer now two?

    • paulwilsonkc says:

      Boring night in Falcon Ridge?

      • uhou eaarley says:

        still obsessed with Harley?
falcon ridge? not quite. but hurry…..times running out!
actually was at game….tough loss but we’re coming back.

    • Play that violin says:

Still trying to trace that IP? How bout now i’ll give you a hint. Berlin is beautiful this time of year.

How much luck did you have with trying to trace Harley’s IP? At least in one aspect Glazer is better than you. He doesn’t pretend to know enough about the internet to understand an IP Address. Keep abusing that administrative power and then trying to claim “anonymous”. Also Falcon Ridge please I work for a living and hate golf.

      • paulwilsonkc says:

No, and I don’t need any hints. I just like to poke a stick at you TKC trolls who come over just to stir up dust, hiding in the shadows throwing rocks, you know, like you do over there with the mouth breathing knuckle draggers.
And I know more about Harley than Harley does; thanks for asking, though…

  12. Play that Violin says:

You just reinforced what kinda special you really are. Another hypocrite that loves the anonymous compliments but p!sses and moans about the negative ones. So full of themselves you took the time to try and trace an IP Address. Who’s the knuckle dragger the one that calls BS on selective support of anonymous commentors, or the one that abuses their administrative privilege to attempt to discover someone’s identity. Stalk much? Stick to selling bubble wrap. You don’t like it then stop publishing your dribble.

    • paulwilsonkc says:

I hate anonymous comments; if you dont have the balls to attack or insult as who you are, instead of hiding, you’re a special kind of coward.
And for your future reference, I write “drivel” not “dribble.” Dribble is what you do while you’re (Harley) waiting for mom to bring your meds and snack to the basement.
Nice job on that J School degree (cough, cough)

    • paulwilsonkc says:

One other thing, LimpDick, go read the COUNTLESS compliments I give to commenters who almost always disagree with me. From KC Monarch to Lib to Stomper, when they disagree they are well reasoned and insightful. I always thank them for their comment and how well thought out they are when they disagree. I love people who intelligently disagree, it makes for great conversation and is the whole point of the site. Intelligent debate about the issues of our day.
You/Harley are the garden variety haters who live to insult. YOUR comments define “drivel.”
I have an idea for you; why don’t you write for this blog, a dozen newspapers and get a feel for what thick skin REALLY is. You’re a clueless, gutless troll.
Oh, that’s right, you’re a zero skilled insult artist, I forgot. The only place you’re published is on bathroom stall walls. You know, under the “For a Good Time” category.
      Happy Saturday.

  13. Play that Violin says:

I post anonymous on this site because I know this is not the first time you’ve attempted to “track” someone down or used someone else just as incompetent to do it for you. The abuse of the admins of their access is rampant and your the biggest perp. The coward is the thin skinned, narcissistic egomaniac that you have become. Still living in the “insults” from TKC from what 2 years ago. Ironic that in your opinion that site is of such offense that it gets under your skin as it does. Perhaps those comments weren’t far off the mark as the truth usually stings more than fiction. It is dribble since it isn’t worth spit.

    • paulwilsonkc says:

You post annonymous because you’re a coward. Plain and simple. It’s “drivel” cause you’re illiterate.
Have a great day, coward. There’s a difference in thin skinned and attacking someone’s family. Your support of that shows you as the nut less coward you are.
      Good day, loser.

      • Play that Violin says:

You’ve already proven your back tracing based on your “Falcon Ridge” comment. And even though as inaccurate as that is your as two faced as any anonymous post. Just to stupid to realize your the reason for anonymity based on that very action. Secondly I can google “Paul Wilson” and receive 600K hits. So you are as good as anonymous. You have not proven your identity here only provided a name that is “less anonymous sounding.” Sincerely Brian Wilson, Todd Wilson, Mike Wilson, Eric Wilson, Pete Wilson, ….

        • paulwilsonkc says:

You’ve just run out of anything smart to say, at this point, have no defense for your own cowardess and I sure don’t have time to correct all the spelling and grammar issues in that last bit of embarrassing “dribble” so you should stop while you only look as stupid as you do. You and Harley must have “gradiated” for J Skool together.
As for my annonymous like name, you’re laughable. Two Facebook pages, a LinkedIn and multiple newspapers clearly identify me with a picture. The FB pages are unrestricted. Both have my address, phone number, pictures of my home, beach condo, family…I couldn’t be much easier to find or ID. And I’ll be walking the Plaza tonight from 9-11 for a follow up story.
Now, punk, you gotta ask yourself, does he have a reason he’s confident enough to be that open and not hide? Well, yes. Yes, he does.
Have a great rest of your weekend and come back when you have some teeth in your comments and position. Right now, it’s weak sauce and the worlds full of that.

          • Play that violin says:

Not as weak as your position to back trace comments. You cast that stone genius. Plus playing the grammar and spelling card is the first go to for anyone without an argument. Considering you must have plenty of time for back tracing someone’s identity why would I look for you since you’ve already got it figured out smart guy. You can have the last word because I know it means that much to you and you love to hear yourself justify abusing your administrative power on this site to track down people.

          • chuck says:

Bullsh*t. Like Paul is going to “track you down” and do what?

            Kick your azz after school?

As someone who actually did get his azz kicked after school dozens and dozens of times (Ruskin was tough, not as dangerous as it is now, but really tough.), I am telling you, Paul might buy you a beer and listen to what you have to say, but that’s it.

My favorite comment on this thread, is Harley’s claim to be a “Bouncer”. Next, a Chippendale dancer, who, no doubt resembles Swaaaayyyyzzzzeee. I hope he is smoking like a fu*kin chimney too.

  14. Frank says:

It appears you have all the time in the world. Pass the popcorn, diva

  15. paulwilsonkc says:

Thanks, Chuck. That’s exactly what I said to Mr Insult! Look how many people who ALMOST ALWAYS disagree with me, how I compliment them and thank them for their response.
The only ones who piss me off are the standard troll who knows nothing about me but wants to comment with slanderous info. Or those who want to attack my wife or family members with no provocation.
I’ve even been accused by our resident short bus comment king of being a dead beat dad and wife beater. Did I kick his ass? No, it’s gently and slowly making its way through the John Doe subpoena and court process to make sure it’s handled properly.
    Appreciate your words, kind sir.
Come to think of it, even you have disagreed with me more than once….and I’d buy you a beer any day, any where. Even in Ruskin!

  16. Roderick says:

Thank you for this article! I just moved to the KC area 5 months ago and this turns my stomach! I love this area I love this state. Our move was from California. I think these violators should be caught and punished. This should not happen to anyone ever let alone one of our service men. Thank you again for bringing light to this subject. I keep googling the subject hoping for an arrest.

    • paulwilsonkc says:

Hey, welcome to KC and thanks for your comment. I’ll do a follow up to this soon, but so far, nothing.
Personally, I think they are waiting for it to blow over…and do nothing.

  17. threedawgs says:

‘Respect.’ Where is respect going to be found in a country that’s government is a 100% corrupt, Inverted-totalitarian, police-state, that has no respect for over 99% of it’s citizens in this country or the world, for that matter, who it increasingly oppresses, impoverishes, and murders. Also a citizenry that has morphed into a worthless bunch of controlled, manipulated, socialized, indoctrinated, brainwashed, weak, don’t-think-for-themselves, need/want-to-be-told-what-to-do-include-think, never-read-a-book, don’t-have-an-original-thought, no-integry, non-principled, weak, cowardly, instant-gratification-demanding, human debri. Where’s respect going to come from in such a scenario?
