Glazer: Taking the Measure of This Week’s NFL & The Chiefs

at Levi's Stadium on December 20, 2014 in Santa Clara, California.

Well, its week three and for some colleges week four…

The NFL is not putting out a great product this year. There are way too many key injuries and off-field issues. And losing starting quarterbacks is major. Dallas, who otherwise would maybe be one of the NFC’s top two or three teams, loses Tony Romo and Dez Bryant.

New Orleans is done – with a wounded Drew Brees soon to be not playing at all. And the list of other key players out early seems endless.

All the new rules to protect players haven’t worked at all.

There are more injuries than ever. The other key issues leading to substandard play have to do with MONEY. A few players on each team get $10 and $20 million a year while other key players make a fraction of that big payday.

There’s just not enough go around, thus the number of holdouts. And hard feelings show up on the field. Add in off the field problems from Tom Brady to Chip Kelley and the failed Eagles and there are a ton of problems.

And the season just started.
Hell, the Chiefs may benefit from all this just by staying healthy.

imagesRight now the top teams are already clear at this point.

In the AFC its New England and the Steelers as the one and two powers. The Jets are interesting, so we’ll see. Denver is right there with the Jets, then its a crapshoot on down the line.

Huge misses are Miami, Houston, Baltmore – and so far our Chiefs.

Maybe they battle back.

The NFC is very clear. GREEN BAY. Then everyone else. Dallas would have been up there. The Eagles are now a joke. Seattle is 0-2 but maybe the NFC’s second best team. If Green Bay had Jordy Nelson, and had Aaron Rodgers stayed healthy they’d be a 14 win team for sure.

The Chiefs will show up Monday and play well against Packers – but no cigar – Packers win.

PROS

SEATTLE -8 OVER CHICAGO ON A TEASE WITH PITTSBURGH +5 over St. Louis

Arizona -1/2 over SF on a tease with Pitts + 5 over St. Louis

That’s all folks!

By the way that was a typo of course Aaron Rogers is quite healthy. I meant to say if Aaron stays healthy Pack will be hard to stop from winning the NFC.

  2. harley says:

everthing you say/write glaze is a typo. I counted at least 5 incorrect statements.
    Rodgers being injured …wrong….
it was so evident in their last games…
waiting for the articles on the strippers and the pope (hopefully not in one
    story!)

  3. Fake Name Guy says:

So it’s the darned PARODY that is ruining the NFL for you.

    • CG says:

Not me for everyone. Hey its the number entertainment dollar out there today. The product is down for lots of reasons mentioned and more… that’s if you want to bet on games, if not, hey I guess its just an up and down league and the fact few teams are capable of being consistent doesn’t matter to some. That’s all. We are seeing the same thing in college football. Big money for some and not others as well as huge, fast roided up players over the last several years, rule changes, tons of quarterback and weapon players hurt all the time, have changed the landscape. No question. As I wrote you still have a few teams that are weathering the storm like Packers and Pats but very few.

      • CG says:

The Rogers comment was ‘if he stays healthy they will win 14 for sure’ not he’s not healthy…simple as that…We left out Jay Cutler’s injury which injures the Bears will suck.

      • harley says:

most critical injuries in the nfl happen in august and September. everything from dehydration from the
lessening of working out in pads cause this.
I don’t doubt that there seems to be more major injuries
this year but I wonder if its more than previous years
and if they all just happened in the first 1-2 weeks of the
        year.
Kerowacky can probably address this….becase it might
just be tht theres not any more injuries in 2015 than other
years or that this year has really been a bad one for
        the major players getting injured.

  4. Kerouac says:

    In a replay of Superbowl 1 ~ PACKERS 35 swiss chiefs 10

Well, things shaping up just as Kerouac predicted: 3-0 Broncos win again, still best in the West, up and coming Raiders move just ahead of the Chargers into second place 2-1, 1-2 San Diego returns home two weeks on the road still better than the cellar dwellers swiss chiefs, 1-2 aft the Pack blister their a**e* Monday Night.

    🙂

bow down to kerowacky…he was close this time.
first time I had to watch the game where I could hear the announcers
since I wasn’t in abar watching the game. Didn’t recognize 75% of the
      chiefs players…who are they?
and why not use maclin more….I saw him running really bad routes.
and the o line was horrible…..who is cooper the corner?
they must have brought in a whole new crew because I couldn’t
recognize many of the names outside berry/fisher (another bust)/
Charles/smith (his clock is ticking)…but maybe it will tke 8 years to
put together a great time like it did the royals.
last night was an embarrassment….even gruden said some really
      bad things about the team.

  5. CG says:

Well we finally won a couple games with no losses in the pros. More quarterback injuries with Big Ben out for a month or two now. The Chiefs maybe just stay healthy and end up in post season? Uh, no.

  6. harley says:

    glaze goes 2-0 this week….congrats glaze…
can you believe how they have screwed up the American royals bar b q and parade this year.

  7. Kerouac says:

What a blowout… it was ‘worse’ than Superbowl 1:

    PACKERS ~ 38 (coulda been 75)
    swiss ~ cry uncle

    1st DEN 3-0
    2ns OAK 2-1
    3rd SD 1-2
    4th swiss 1-2

    🙂

    • heaarley says:

at least we’re still in the wild card hunt!

      • CG says:

Harley we are in no hunt! We lose next week to Bengals and are 1-3. I just wrote about it on kcconfidential out latter today. Time to terminate Andy, Dorsey,Alex Smith and start over…AGAIN. We can’t draft. Oh I forgot 6 all pro defenders. WHERE! Houston a no show as usual in a big game, Derrick Johnson the same, rest of D horrid. Alex is done as a ‘maybe he’ll make it work starter’ this is a bad team with one great star Jamaal that’s it. We can’t get the ball to the tight end or wide outs much so not much good unless we play Jags.
