Glazer: Are You Ready for Some Football?

63929609Here we go gang, it’s football time again!

And won’t it be nice to have nice one week without a New England cheater attack? Reality television has taken over our lives on a daily basis, with the next big scandal unfolding almost hourly on almost everything.

It’s always tough on Week One. We haven’t seen the college teams play at all and the pro’s may have held back during the preseason. So who knows?

And it’s always the same old story for our local college teams. The Kansas Jayhawks are a joke – what else is new? KU might  win like one game – two would be a shocker.

Missouri is a legit team again with two very good quarterbacks. So they’ll of course go bowling. Will they win the SEC? I’d like to see that, but I need to see them play a few games first. The SEC is so tough.

K-State, who knows? They always show up, but in the end are not a serious threat to do anything major. Yes, they’re a bowl team, but…

Well, I can’t believe I’m saying this but I do see hope for our Chiefs.

We have good receivers for the first time in decades. And it looks like we have a solid D. The running game is very good with Charles in charge. And this is the make it or break it year for head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Alex Smith. Are the Chiefs better than just decent? Maybe the Royals success will rub off on the them. Let’s hope so.

please glaze…focus on your reality show and leave the sports to people who know
    something about sports and football.
you have shown us nothing….and we got nothing.
    stick to strippers…

  2. Kerouac says:

Q: Who’ll win the ultimate ‘1st’, first, century 21? Chiefs? Tigers? Wildcats? Jayhawks?

    A: Cubs

    ~

‘Street & Smith’s Football Yearbook 1966, the of late late but thence much alive Larry Felser quoting an even then late Eddie Cantor: “if another season is another reason for making whoopee”. Exhibits Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri & the Chiefs.

The 1960’s, Kansas produced Gale Sayers, John Hadl, Curtis McClinton & Bert Coan, latter two of the four former Chiefs and the first who could/should have been, was a long time ago.

Kansas State won 5 games… in four years… twice. Wildcats won just 19 entire decade the 60’s (which makes the current Jayhawks drought just 12 wins the last five years seem monsoon.)

As his book same title, Missouri was ‘Simply Devine’ in the sexagenarian decade, five bowl games and 76 wins (actually 77, adjusted up the NCAA, the Tigers 1960 season forfeit win over Kansas.)

Chiefs were cutting edge pro football latter half that same decade, winningest team the AFL, two Superbowl’s the biggest, strongest and fastest too… one Championship then, and none since.

1967, a coaching triumvirate newly hired Pepper Rodgers, Vince Gibson same and an even then venerable Dan Devine. Today, KU’s Beaty is playing dual roles of Gibson & Rodgers, while elders Snyder and Pinkel try & keep their Wildcats and Tigers headed the right direction: close but no cigars.

’67 same, Chiefs coming off a Superbowl loss to the greatest ever, Green Bay Packers, foregone conclusion opinions most a repeat was in the works for Stram’s charges, save an ending would go our way this time. Three years later did… 46 years aft, no encore.

    ~

“this is the make it or break it year for head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Alex Smith.”

    – so close (‘this is our year’) & yet so far (1970)… Texans (1,500) Swiss Chiefs (1)

    Wildcats over Roadrunners

    Memphis over Jayhawks

    and the bands wept on…

    🙂

  3. Play that violin says:

Yea the National Felons League.. thank god for Netflix.

  4. Kerouac says:

Halftime score: Referees 14, Swiss Chiefs 13, Texans 9/23

    • CG says:

K give them credit, we have some very talented receivers now at tight end and of course Jeremy Maclin. No NFL team is perfect anymore. This will be a team that can compete for post season. Far from perfect but better than before.

  5. Kerouac says:

No credit due, CG… none. The referees were the star of yesterday’s ‘show’, their effort and the Texans own via unforced mistakes, dropped passes and a QB who looked more like a rookie than Marcus Mariota (latter already a better QB than anyone the Texans, Chiefs or at minimum 28 other NFL teams sport.)

As Kerouac predicted, Broncos and Chargers already leading the AFC West, by virtue their defeating playoff teams in each case; ditto the Raiders who played and lost (and too their QB, but, are the coming team in the West.

Power rankings remain: Broncos first, Chargers a very close second, Raiders third and bringing up the rear, the only West team did not face a worthy opponent/playoff team from 2014, beedle bum… aka the Swiss Chiefs.

Will comment further on your wrap-up article you will posted later today, presume… much to more to say, as always.

    🙂

    • CG says:

I have one coming on the Chiefs first game. I think they are a better team than they have been. Are they top notch, uh no, but could be much better. Lets see how they do with Denver before we piss on them. I’m not sure yet. Hey nobody has been down on them more than me, but I’m giving them a fair look this season. I like the offense, D is concern yes.

  6. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Let’s see how Craig did on his college picks:

NOTRE DAME -6 OVER VIRGINIA TEASE WITH ARKANSAS -15 OVER TOLEDO: LOSS

MISSOURI – 4.5 OVER ARK STATE TEASE WITH GEORGIA – 15 OVER VANDY
    WIN

    SOUTH CAROLINA -7 OVER KENTUCKY
    LOSS

Ouch! .333 after week one! Not off to a good start.

    • harley says:

glaze is a phony a football expert as I am a rocket scientist. 333?
a blind dog could do better than this…and with that fuzzy math/
the guys a jinx…although I love him he’s just a phony con man pretending to be seth Rothstein.
If youo know nothing …say nothing…you save your self from being thought
      of as a fool.
wheres the best glaze…$1000 versus my taking over the mic on a Friday
night doing standup….you said you considered it…but look like you’re
like the rest of the yellow belly chickens on kcc.
hopefully we won’t hve to read his puffed up fantacies this year and
maybe kerowacky can be the head sports guy.
besides glaze has bigger things to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stop the predictions…stick to your big time opportunity….you don’t need to prove whata terrible bettor you are….we already know it.
      nice start…

HATER YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO READ BUT I AM PERFECT ON NFL SO FAR WON THEM ALL WAITING ON TONIGHTS GAMES TO SEE HOW THEY GO SO 1-2 COLLEGE AND 2-0 PRO MAKES ME 3-3…you are welcome to give us your picks against the spread. My numbers, contrary to Harley’s thoughts are outstanding over the last 4 years…3 in a row were A plus last year was a down year I admit. If I got them both right tonight…then we are 5-3…good start..p.s. I check the ‘expert picks’ at CBS and Fox, my picks matched some of theirs..it’s hard to pick winners against the spread and be up…most aren’t look at their records over the last couple years, only one was above .500 mine over the last 4 years well over .500 better than any of those guys. Thank you and that included college.

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Craig, I wasn’t hating on you at all. Just making a note on your college picks, cause I don’t give a shit about the NFL. Somebody got a case of red-ass today? Or did you get some sand in your vag and are growing a large pearl?

      • The GhostsOfHarleyPast says:

So much for “perfect” on NFL. Whatever you do, please bet against the Chiefs.

  7. Bill says:

    Glaze,

Where did you get your lines for this: MISSOURI – 4.5 OVER ARK STATE TEASE WITH GEORGIA – 15 OVER VANDY

Missouri was a 13-point favorite and Georgia was a 17.5 point favorite. There is no way you could have gotten Missouri down to 4.5.

    • CG says:

    • CG says:

Bill lines change I made those bets myself..MU was 10 to 12 pending and Georgia was plus 20…remember a tease gives you 6 points up or down…that’s how I lowered the spread. MU was not ever 17…ever…anyways on a tease you must win them both…

my odds are from sportsandodds.com a Vegas line and even gives you 5 major hotels books lines as well…check it.

  8. Nelly says:

CG. I love that you put your picks out here. It proves just how hard it is to beat Vegas regularly. 3-5 not the best start – and no, I don’t think I could do much better.

    • CG says:

3-4 but whos counting right. Yep its hard. As anyone that follows the game, my picks were similar to most experts. Especially the Monday Night Games. I felt both the Vikes and Eagles were, according to all experts and preseason gonna be play off teams. In fact some have Eagles as a Super Bowl pick. Most feel 49ers and Atlanta are likely under .500 teams. Didn’t look that way last night did it.

It’s early hard to say. Some get better some get worse. If you are a betting man my advice is go slow early identify the terrible teams in the NFL like Tampa looks to be perhaps Oakland, the Vikes sure could be, and in College like KU bet against bad teams and not so much of ones that look good. My Vegas big wins worked that way. I bet against the Chiefs for years when they played the Colts, huge..won them all. Betting ‘good’ teams like Seattle and New England were tough, often they won but didn’t cover. It’s harder than ever today with no dominate teams. A few years ago Alabama and a couple other college teams won and covered most of the time, now, its tough, closer wins and not as dominate. Best bet…DON’T BET MUCH…not a good way to make extra money. Stick to fantasy leagues and small bets for fun.

I’m liking KC over Denver at home. Not a big bet game, could go either way.

      • CG says:

By the way someone on here said MU was a 17 point favorite…they never were it went anywhere from 9-12 from the start and ended at 9-10 points. I teased that one down to 4 1/2 and won with the tease and Georgia…I use sportsandodds.com has current lines and they change hourly and daily as well as Vegas hotel books lines they do vary.

        • Bill says:

Glaze, I said Georgia was a 17.5-point favorite, not Mizzou.

          • CG says:

correct you had MU at -13, they never were and if they were at 10 or 10 1/2 it would drop to 4 1/2 on the six point tease as I did…in fact it fell to 9 just before the game and that would have been -3 on a tease..either way it covered.
