Wow, the Chiefs won their first two preseason games…
I can’t remember the last time they did that. Plus an opener on the road with a big scoring game for KC – ultra rare. Then again, the Chiefs own Seattle, ha! In games that don’t seem to matter anyway.
However the heat is on for our boys in Red, because the window may be closing on this core group of all pros.
Actually, we really only have two all pros. The rest are good, but not great players who were named all pro. Jamaal Charles is a great back and Justin Houston has emerged as a monster linebacker/sacker. Others like Derrick Johnson are steady, solid but his overall career has been a bit less than hoped for. He’s no Derrick Thomas, but he’s good. Eric Berry – the other core player – was over rated at best. Tamba Hali has been outstanding but like everyone here save Houston, is nearing the end of his career.
And zero playoffs wins at all for this group so far.
So why does this franchise fail?
Why have there been no Super Bowls since the 1960’s? Nearly 50 years and no playoff win since 1993…damn.
The main reasons: First, the Chiefs can’t draft great players.
The Chiefs suck at picking anyone in the draft. You can count on one hand the stars we have over the last 10 years of drafts. Horrible.
Then last year we got D-Ford – and we never hear much about him at all.
The list of failed draft picks is endless.
That’s been the number one issue. Add in no star wide receiver since the 1960’s and Otis Taylor, no elite quarterback since an aging Joe Montana and the benching of Rich Gannon.
Net result; the Chiefs have been an average team at best for years.
Can this season be different?
Well, we did get Jeremy Maclin, a top wideout from Mizzou and…well, that’s about it.
Oh and maybe a solid corner with our first pick this year.
Former MU QB Chase Daniel looks pretty good as back up. And the O line is, well, nowhere. That’s a big problem.
Hey and Alex Smith one of the league’s most sacked quarterbacks the past two seasons.
The offense should be better – still led by Charles – our tight end looks promising, and Alex did throw a touchdown to wide receiver Maclin in game one. Nice.
Maybe some of that the Royals heat will rub off on the Chiefs.
Right now it’s hard to say.
Vegas has the Chiefs at around .500.
Like 8-8. And there’s not a big difference between teams 6-10 and 9-7 – kinda where the Chiefs live. Frankly, they’re just another team that can beat anyone or lose to anyone and the jury is out on Alex Smith and Andy Reid.
This season may answer all those questions.
Are the Chiefs winners or just also rans? Let’s put it this way nobody in the NFL media is hot on our Chiefs. They’re a maybe.
We’ll soon see.
I don’t think the jury is out on Alex Smith. He has a long enough track record to know EXACTLY who he is. He’s a 60% passer that is going to throw for 15 to 20 TD’s and somewhere around 2800-3000 yards. He isn’t going to lose you any games, but he isn’t going to win you many either. Smith is the epitome of average.
Hey, I like the guy. But he is who he is. J-Mac isn’t going to turn him into a superstar. It’s the QB’s job to make his receivers superstars, not the other way around.
Yup. 8-8 sounds just about right for this team. Catch a break or two and maybe 10-6. But, what’s the point of that if you get bounced out of the first round of playoffs? Ain’t happenin’ this year.
Opinions re: the Chiefs run the gamut… Las Vegas agrees with Kerouac, who sees KC no better than 9-7 & no worse than 7-9, so a .500 guess is in the ballpark. That some koolaid drinkers see the Chiefs not only winning the West but a mark 13-3 Superbowl Champs affirms there is just as much delusion as cynicsm football fandom.
Results to date 2015 exhibition season, Chiefs have been dominated by both ARIZ & SEAT, losing 10-0 to the former and 14-1o the latter when the ‘real’ players were on the field, each team’s first stringers.
Defense, no Poe and no Smith to begin. LB Houston is overhyped, garbage time sacks his forte. Two young CB’s ‘Whiff’ Gaines & ‘Toast’ Peters will be disappointments, my opine (former badly missed a tackle last week & the latter was burned for a certain td had the QB not led his WR too far across the middle.) 2014 #1 pick LB Ford still looks lost out there, another project/bust add the long list (Baldwin, Jackson, Dorsey, et al. ) That the equally overhyped S Eric ‘I Can’t Cover But Make Up For It By Not Tackling Either’ Berry returns as does LB Johnson & DL Devito, underwhelming.
The KC Offensive line still looks like a jail break, while QB Smith still looks like Bobby Douglass when he runs… and passes. Charles without a line, Maclin and Kelce without a QB spells pedestrian results and another chorus ‘wait till next year’ part 2016 verse 46. Yeah, there’s some depth but not enough substance to be more than another also-ran. That the Chiefs won’t go down without kicking and screaming courtesy Colquitt, Santos & the local homers won’t be enough. Yeah, there’s some depth but not enough substance to be more than yet another also-ran, par for their usual.
“Yellow matter custard, green slop pie, all mixed together with a dead dog’s eye, slap it on a butty, ten foot thick, then wash it all down with a cup of cold sick.” Which is to say, throw it all together and DEN looks to be the class of the AFC West again, the Chargers next with a chance to slip ahead of the Broncos, up & coming Raiders third & the Swiss Chiefs bringing up the rear; injuries – as always the wild card – will play no favorites.

That’s about right. GM has failed to upgrade the O-line and wide outs…AGAIN. Very average QB play, schedule issues, and suspect GM/Head coach will turn in another playoff-less season for KC. 9-7 is right if there are no injuries, 6-10, 7-9, and 8-8 if there are, and most likely will be with that black hole of a line. Royals have passed this moribund franchise for KC’s affection and time. Zero interest in this team this year. I won’t be paying any attention until after the World Series anyway. What will the excuse be this year? Only 7 home games?…brutal schedule?..We are continuing to build…blah blah blah.

her ex husband) then they can give reasons why that

til then, I am a strong advocate against domestic violence and
feel strongly that those people who engage in it should be
punished to the strongest extent of the law.
I have mentioned no names but I have noted that its
important to make sure that laws are followed and that
the horrendous act of domestic violence must end and that
oyur justice system must punish those who commit that
type of crime.
there are hundreds if not thousands of those men who
don’t pay their support and abuse their spouses/girlfriends.
this is not intended for any one person.
I was on there and saw some names that are known in the
community.
if you do this…you should be punished to the fullest
extent of the law.
Theres nothing wrong with advocating for women who are
the victims of domestic abuse. There are many great homes and
groups working with these women and I support them
in any way I can from donations to help raising fundsfor
thse groups.
If you need help or if you know someone who is a victim there
are hotlines to go to get help/shelter and assistane.
Stan has helped many of these women as I have including
getting them reliable transportation and presents/gifts for
their kids during the holidays when money was short.
I haveno idea why anyone would disagree with the efforts
or work done on behalf of these women to save their
lives.
If you do the crime…you should do the time. I have never
named anyone here or on any blog as a “wife beater”…my
position is to spread the word about this hideous crime
and the effecs it has on both the women and the kids.

its rampant in Johnson county and that it has to stop…no

I see I know Carl I’m dumb and you are smart…he was just above average for his first several years, our defense which he has been the leader has never been much, evidenced by our team getting killed in the playoffs when we got there cause our D was terrible. Leads in tackle yes but many were after the back ran 5 to 8 yards. He was not a bigtime playmaker in his position, yes he made lots of tackles and let us where? He is good, I don’t think he was great that’s all.
