Glazer: Trump Hits Major Bump @ Republican Debate

megyn-kelly-donald-trump-the-kelly-file-05202015-2A couple days ago I said it was Donald Trump‘s nomination to lose…

Meaning he can and would win if he didn’t fall on his face. Well, last night he sure TRIPPED! The polling numbers aren’t in yet, but my guess is the Donald still leads but has fallen and maybe badly.

First off, while it was as lively a political debate as we’ve seen, it was staged more like a game contest/reality show. Which was perfect for the Donald.

The moderators panel was not only out for blood, but clearly cared more about how they looked and sounded than what the candidates said and did. THEY WANTED TO BE THE STARS. Especially the newest media star Megyn Kelly. The blonde moderator may have won the debate, but yes, it was a bit disturbing.

Donald Trump was himself.

However he was clearly unprepared to give answers of substance or much of any plan other than his I CAN DO ANYTHING attitude.

The billionaire has advisors and if Trump doesn’t get nominated he might go third party, which could give the White House to the Dems and Hillary Clinton.

When asked as the opening question, would anyone there not support the winner of the Republicans nomination for president, Trump raised his hand. In other words he would not promise his support to the nominee if it wasn’t him. Bad move.

He got booed.

Of course the Cleveland location was filled with Ohio folks who were not Trump fans to begin with and will support their Governor’s bid for the White House.

Still Trump should not have not that.

Remember, he could later say he changed his mind and avoid losing support from Republican voters who stand behind their party’s nominee. However it did demonstrate that is in many ways Trump is honest about his feelings and thoughts…to a fault.

donald-trump-is-having-a-meltdown-after-megyn-kelly-and-fox-news-cut-him-to-pieces-during-the-debateIn a second bad move. Trump knew they’d ask about his statement about illegal aliens being sent to America by Mexican government due to their being unwanted because they were of poor character, drug dealers, criminals etc.

But asked Trump had no stats, no backup and clearly had done little homework on the subject. Just the, “I was down there and talked to Border Patrol and law enforcement and they told me so.”

Hell, there are statistics he could have found to back up his statement, because others agreed this is likely the case. Plus many illegals are from South America and just cross over on the border because its easy.

Trump’s third mistake was when Kelly asked about all his negative comments on women. “The fat pig comment, on her knees comment” and on and on.

Trump replied that we live a PC world and he said what he thought, much of it just in joking. He might have gotten away with that but instead he chose to attack Kelly again and go after her for being mean to him. Bad move because he clearly didn’t score with women on that one.

In summary, Trump showed he was funny, a showman, a’tough guy and a businessman who stops at nothing to get his way.

However he clearly did not come off as presidential.

It was not a good night for Trump.

So who won?

Nobody was a clear winner, but several candidates had nice moments.

pg-27-bush-clinton-1-getty-apThe right wing comments about God speaking to them and Pro Life speeches kinda hurt them as a group with voters in the national election. It makes them come off as mean spirited and harsh.

Trump was not asked the God question.

In the end everyone had different opinions on who moved up and down.

And although Jeb Bush wasn’t on fire, he seems destined to be the main man in the end.

Others like Rubio shinned, but in the end, Las Vegas likely has it right.

Because after all the shouting and screaming it more than likely will come down to Hilary Clinton vs. Jeb Bush.

Trump and others will continue to make noise but those two names will be hard to beat. And Trump will continue to make it interesting, but he clearly lost ground last night.

You have to admit, Glaze, that was some entertaining stuff. haha You were just waiting for it to go completely off the rails. You are right about the moderators being the show. They made NO effort to prod the candidates to actually answer the question that was asked. that was disappointing.

Once anyone declares that “god spoke to them”, I immediately write them off as delusional. I prefer the leader of the free world not have imaginary friends.

Circus, Part 1 complete. Can’t wait for the next show.

  3. Orphan of the Road says:

John Kasich was the only adult on stage IMHO. His answers when questioned on why he took the Medicaid expansion with the ACA and same-sex marrige, he gave great answers.

Trump played his part as the carnival barker rather well. His entry in to the Republican field made it go BOOM.

And even the wing-nut candidates gave some inconvenient truths in their replies.

    No glaze…it was a trainwreck.
Merely saying I will make America great “again” is pure b.s.!!!!!!1
To use the word “again ” is an insult to every American alive.
    Again?
    are you serious?
where can a guy from college go to start a company and live in a house nicer
than his parents grew up…work 18 hours a day….and enjoy the life my
    parents never imagined.
My grandparents came from Russia. My grandfather, afraid that the
guards at the port of entry in new York would steal everything he had
worked his life for broke his arm. He took what money they had and
bought diamonds and imbedded them in his arm cast so as not to
let the guards steal what he was bringing in to the u.s.
He and his wife brought 4 kids with them…and made it thru the
entry ports with enough to live for about 4 months.
My mothers family came from Russia also…with nothing but
a few suitcases filled with clothes and ended up in the Midwest.
My father and uncle and their 2 sisters lived in a one bedroom
and half bath apartment in downtown kc. Both my father and uncle
survived a depression and served in world war 2 ….both being the
first ones to enter Nazi concentration camps in Poland.
the7 came home and built businesses…worked 20 hours a day
to take care of their families. My entire family graduated from college…
my cousins now consist of 4 doctors of which one is now the leader
in cancer research in the nation.
To insult my grandfather/parents with the word “again” is not only
disgusting but also an insult to what the greatest generation of America
    has done for the world.
Donald trupm won the genetic lottery. He’s never had to worry about
rent/utilities…where his next meal has come from.
I was lucky…myself and my family and my cousins were all able to
graduate from great schools…something none of our parents were able
to do. In efffct we have lived theamerican dream that the entire world
    aspires to.
the say make “make America great again” is an insult to every American
who died for our nation…every American who has contributed to the
world…..and an insult to how America has overcome the hardships and\
ups and downs that any great nation faces.
Your man trump is a fu*ckiing loser. He was born into money. He never
    had a worry.
For thyose of us who have sweat and worked countless hours to try to do
    something…trump is a p.o.s.
His politics is hate…his rhetoric is hate….his solutions are hate…he’s
never had to worry about his next meal his entire life.
So glaze…take your b.s. and shove it.
America is great. We don’t need some loud mouth/silver spoon/money hand
to him p.o.s. to tell us how he will make America great “again” is pure crap.
For those of us who lived (or tried) to live the American dream he is nothing
but a disgrace to our families who came with nothing and made a great life
    for their famiy.
For those of us who started with nothing (unlike trump) we still believe and
know that America is the greatest nation in the world regardless of what
    problems we see.
So take your support of this conman (he declared bankruptcy what 4 times and lied
and cheated his friends ad investors out of billions) n shove him up your A$$
You might like that type of person…but II don’t
America is and will always be the greatest nation god made.

we don’t need some conman lying filthty cheating arrogant disgusting silver
spoon pos to tell us this nation is n’t great.
It is the most incredible nation ever…aand despite it’s problems we don’t
need you or this p.o.s. to tell us how bad things are.
For all those who believed, worked their ass off, those who died for our
nation …for those heroes who gave their all (including senator john mc cain)
for this nation let it never be said that America has and will always be the
    greatest nation god created.
    god bless America.

  8. KCMonarch says:

There was a clear winner at the end of that fiasco and her name is Hilary Clinton.

  9. chuck says:

You are dead on the money Glaze.

FOX News pulled in 24 million viewers to see the Donald get lynched. The Megyn Kelly Blitzkrieg directly after the Bret Baier’s demand for an Anti-Communist…, er…, Anti-Third Party Oath, was a devastating blow and he never got his legs back.

    Lindsey Graham, no fan of Trump, said this;

“At the end of the day, ask the man a question to explain his positions and his solutions rather than start out with a 10-minute question saying you’re the biggest bastard on the planet.”

The smarmy, clubby, superficiality prior to and after the debate was appalling. The moderators, as Glazer mentioned, disgraced themselves in front of the largest audience for a national debate in this nation’s history.

Glazer is correct in my opinion, in his assessment of Trump’s inability to factually answer questions that relate to his positions. Anecdotal, first person testimony is a “Harley on the playground” strategy that didn’t just reveal his lack of political acumen, it speaks to what we can only assume is organizational indolence and incompetence. If the man is not completely ready to defend his position on Immigration, in this venue, then why would we believe he will study hard for negotiations with “X” country on Trade? No one in the Trump camp could have for a second, believed that questions on Immigration, would not be forthcoming and pointed. His comment to Wallace with regard to the primary to this point being driven by Immigration (“You wouldn’t be talking about it, if it were not for me.”) was a tape measure home run in a game he lost 10 to 1.

While the FOX moderators and other talking heads congratulated each other right after the debate, I wondered, if in fact, the Republican Party wouldn’t have done better, indeed would do better in the future, to bring in, Candy Crowley, George Stephanopoulos and Brian Williams to “moderate” these debates. At least Crowley doesn’t preen for the camera like some hot chick on “The Bachelor” and the antipathy would be expected and not an “Ides Of March, et tu FOX” surprise.

Trump’s fail, was of his own making, but the destroying the enemy of your enemy vis a vis manipulating him into your army, defines the Republican Party and the “Autumnal Cannibalism” which has aborted conservative causes in the last trimester for the last 10 years.

    • Don Duckett says:

Chuck, do you ever give the “suck up” a break. Jesus H. Christ. Dude you suck up to Tony Botello, Glazer, Brownback, Bush, and now Trump. I bet you have a naked poster of Ronald Reagan on your wall.

BTW Chuck, I see you have been absent from the Botello/Polar Bear war over on TKC. Seems Botello pissed off the wrong person this time. Now others are piling in on Botello. He is deleting posts right and left.

      • chuck says:

How you could read my comment and determine that I was praising Mr. Trump is a mystery to me.

Glazer penned a nice article and I agreed with him.

I have never accorded President Bush any compliments for his presidency, ever.

I don’t actually have much of an opinion on Brownback.

I don’t know what you are talking about with regard to TKC and Polar Bear.

Reagan was a great president, but I own no such poster.

      • chuck says:

By the way, about 1 out of 4 posts on TKC under “chuck” are not mine.

  10. 2Cent says:

I thought Chris Christie did the worst. I thought Kasich and Rubio looked good. I think Jeb just looks flat, but I like his “Veto Corleone” line. I was mixed on Paul. I didn’t like how he attacked Trump, but I thought he owned Christie.

  11. 2Cent says:

I am not sure I could vote for Trump, though I am not sure I couldn’t either. But the way the moderators attacked Trump was un-professional. It makes you feel sympathy for Trump, like he didn’t get a fair shake. It feeds right into the narrative of taking on the establishment.

  12. h arley says:

hey bubble brain chuckles….here’s your quote:” front of the largest audience for a national debate in this nation’s history.”

another punch drunk incorrect statement that proves you took one too many
    punches.
not the largest in history…largest audience in cable history…get your factS
    straight chump.
    again…YOU’RE WRONG!!!!!

  13. h arley says:

THE WINNER WAS THE DEMOCRATS AND THEIR CANDIDATES.
IF THIS IS THE BEST THE REPUBS CAN DO …ITS BYE BYE REPUGS.

please give trump the nomination. please. Hillary won’t have to spend a
    dime to win.
Oh and now you turn on the fox moderators chuckles. They didn’t trhow
    softballs at your boys.
Did you hear what was said…to win the presidency you need forty per cent
of Hispanic vote. No way any of these clowns get close to thirty. Maybe even
close to twenty. Trump gets two percent!
    ITS OVER BOYS.

    • 2Cent says:

That 40% figure is based on African-Americans voting in the same numbers they did in 2008 and 2012, and predictions on the way women will vote. There are large questions about whether African-Americans will vote in the same numbers as they did for President Obama. And data shows an abnormally high number of undecided women voters.

Another point is that Hispanic voters tend to be more socially conservative. The longer they are in the country, the more likely they are to vote Republican. The shorter the length of time in the country the more likely to vote Democrat. The Hispanic vote is important, but I don’t think it is as cut and dry as you suppose Harley.

      • h arley says:

take Harleys word for it….repubs aint getting anywhere
near 40 per cent of hispanic vote…which fox claimed was needed
to be elected…I’ve written about this before. Many times.
If you have done any polling 2 cent you would understand
        how the numbers work.
If trump (as many kcc people think) gets the nomination he’ll maybe get 5 per cent.
the other clowns can almost count on 26-28 per cent.
Bush and Rubio might do a little better but I am thinking that
Hillary takes an Hispanic as vp and then its over.
I’m thinking HUD director castro. He’s being groomed…
essentially as I have said many times we are becoming a more
minority nation….the minorities population is growing while the white population of voters stagnates as time goes on.
And yes…blacks will be voting inhuge numbers but with
the dems taking a huge win in women votes they don’t need
te turnout of blacks that Obama got.
Based on raw numbers the repubs have a long way to go
to ever get a candidate elected president for the next 20
        years.
Just look at the demographics and the growth in black and
Hispanic voters who go 80-95 per cent for democrats.
They didn’t vote for Romney…they’re not voting for trump
or any of the other clowns in the clown car on Thursday nite!

    • Harley is right, they did a good job, I never once got a tingle up my leg.

I agree, as of now Vegas, which is great at this calling whats gonna happen…has CLINTON IN UNBEATABLE SPOT EVEN MONEY…BUSH 3 TO 1 AND TRUMP 19 TO 1 SOOOO…THATS WHERE IT IS AS OF NOW. Could change of course..hey I liked the Donald, he needs to do some work and get better if he wants to really, really, really run for Prez and for once Harley may be right, HE MAY NOT REALLY WANT THE JOB,,,ITS A BITCH AND DOESN’T FIT HIS LIFESTYLE….HARD HARD WORK AND LOTS OF FLYING AROUND THE WORLD…not fun…its not…so maybe just maybe this is all a big big show for Donald…so far that’s working…right now he IS THE MAN IN THE SPOTLIGHT….HE LOVES IT, EATS IT UP, HE IS WINNING THAT DAILY…

      • h arley says:

I give trump credit…he’s shaking up the repubs.
Dems love it. It’s icing on the cake when trump gets all
the press and ink. He’s so far doing a great job for the
dems…and they would love to see him win the nomination
but this guy has to be having a blast. He hasn’t spent much money and he’s on every news report every day.
        But he’s still a clown.
I prefer megyn and what trump said about her and the
blood coming out of her eyes. If nothing else…trump does
know how to kick up the repubs right now. Hope it continues.

  15. Stomper says:

2Cent, you’ve made some great points in your comments above and I wanted to answer down here where it won’t get lost as easily.

You mentioned that you thought Kasich and Rubio looked good and I agree. We can’t play political genetics but if the GOP could merge Rubio’s looks and personality with Kasich’s more moderate politics , you’d have a very appealing candidate to the independent voters. If only Rubio wasn’t so far to the right, I think he could run away with the nomination.

You also pointed out that Hispanic voters tend to be more socially conservative and that is also absolutely true. The GOP is idiotic with their aggressive immigration position of the far right as they are offending a group of voters that want to vote with them on a number of issues. W got well over 40% of the Hispanic vote during one of his runs so it is possible but not with the current atmosphere.

Finally, I agree with you on the high numbers of undecided women voters. This is another area where the GOP is risking offending a group of voters that otherwise might vote with them. The assault on Planned Parenthood by the far right wing is not necessarily a good position to take in the eyes of many women voters. I also think that when many women voters who are truly on the fence when they step into the voting booth and pull the curtain behind them remember that for the first time ever they can vote for a female president, will do so.

It just seems like such a stupid strategy for so many otherwise decent candidates t0 think they have to appeal to the far right tea party base to get the nomination when that voting bloc is so much in the minority during the general election.

    Anyway, good comments 2Cent.

  16. CG says:

P.S. Don’t count Trump out quite yet HE IS STILL THE REPUBLICAN LEADER I’M SURE …so anything can happen…first in his class at college Wharton…so he ain’t no dummy and FOR THOSE WHO CALL HIM A CLOWN…REALLY HE IS A ROCK STAR ON TV AND IN LIFE A BILLIONAIRE SO WHO IS THE CLOWN HIM OR YOU..you! The guy is gold and he is making this race exciting already….I still like the guy, he just screwed up the first debate lets see what happens next.

  17. CFPCowboy says:

Harley obviosly has met Dr. Carson in an earlier career. As for the debate, most all of them will be headed to the next round. I have a snaking suspician that Hillary would have trouble with Hewlett Packard, as she was able to hand MSNBC their lunch, on specific Clinton lies. Carley named names and dates. As for Hillary and her assistants, I belive a Federal District Court Judge gave the trio until Friday to pony up or face perjury. Harley, just in case you are in doubt, that’s a felony. The debate broke records, so somebody was interested, but I am not foolish enough to assume those are all votes for Republicans. Carley would eat Clinton for lunch in a head to head, and even though she probably won’t be the choice, I think she will get her place at ghe big table, probably at Trump’s expense. Harley, you got it seriously wrong at the midterms. Conservatives are angry, but they’re not likely to vote for Democrats, particularly when there is no difference from Socialists. Sorry. Congress knows they’re in trouble, but not from Democrats.

    • h arley says:

you said congress is in trouble. Are you saying dems take back the
senate? conservatives are angry…but they’re angry at theirown
party. Read the nate silver article. It’s interesting.
As I said months ago…the whole thing is one bg reality tv show.
Carly Fiorina may have looked good but she’s got a lot of
      baggage.
I seriously doubt Fiorina could stand up to Hillary.
Got no experience on the issues and world stage.
Again..it’s numbers. Its the black/Hispanic/female votes that will
      tell the difference.
      People love the Clintons!

    • h arley says:

cowboy you need to go and read what socialism is.
cowboy now the repubs are talking about a woman’s period.
cowboy it’s all about the numbers.
Cowboy…to win the nomination you have to have a national
organization of which trump has none. I don’t know if he’s
working on that now but he’s going to be around for a long time
because he has taken all the media attention away from the
      other candidates.
cowboy…the only reason the mid terms came out the way they did
was because dems didn’t go and vote.
So now look…you said congress is in trouble. Who’s running that
ship? repubs who are fighting each other like cats and dogs.
Repubs better treat trump better or he’s going to cost them a lot
      of votes.
Interesting to see the polls this week.

  18. John D. Conners says:

Trump hits a roadblock ? Nah, Trump hit a concrete wall, bounced back, and hit it three more times.

I said this earlier Glazer. Trump has two chances, slim and none.

This is the actual scam that’s being played out on the American voter. Trump is going to throw this election to Hillary. Yep. Just look at what’s in play.

Trump is about money. Where is the money in government ? Defense contracting. Ask Dick Cheney about defense contracting dollars.

    • CG says:

Point well taken John. Know what, I don’t think Trump is sure how he is going to play this out. If he really is leading when it matters then he stays in it, if not third party run with little effort and lots of camera time for the Clintons. I agree. He will go either way that works. It would be fun to have a president who was kinda a regular guy like him, but likely not gonna happen.
