Glazer: Eric Hosmer Superstar

14372220If Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer continues to dominate the way he has so far this season, he’ll become Kansas City’s first baseball superstar  since George Brett

You may as well include the Chiefs, since only Tony Gonzalez has been on the team’s list of superstars since Derrick Thomas bought the farm.

The Royals have had some solid stars – Mike Sweeney, Carlos Beltran, Johnny Damon come to mind – but Damon and Beltran gained national attention after they left the Royals.

Part of past Royals problems have been bad teams and no post season for anybody to grab the national spotlight.

And Hosmer fits.

Right now he’s a clutch hitter with power.

Hosmer’s a league leader in all offensive rankings. He’s batting .333 with seven homers, 29 RBI’s and is in the top 10 on most every lists. More important he’s leading his team to victories with his bat.

The other young bats are all doing better around him as well.

But as of now, Eric is THE MAN.

Yes, it’s early. All this started during the playoffs last year and World Series. Hosmer had another not so great regular season before all that happened.

Hosmer had moments his first five seasons but never reached the level fans expected. He was good, but not great. He never hit more than 19 home runs or drove in more than 80, so many felt his early career was a bit disappointing.

66583-58-BHFrNow Hosmer has the look of superstar.

If he stays near this pace he will hit well over 20 home runs, bat over .300 and drive in 90-plus. Hopefully more.

Look, last year the Royals offense was poor.

We all know that. The team reached the post season with great pitching and defense despite a weak offense. No power and nobody was clutch with the bat.

This season, so far, the team is much more explosive on offense, led by Eric. In fact the weakness to this point of the season is the starting pitching. The two main guys Danny Duffy and Ace Ventura have been average or below. The bullpen continues to be great as does the defense. So without Hosmer’s bat the Royals would not be one of baseballs best teams.

Homer is fast becoming the face of this Kansas City baseball franchise.

He’s the man the media wants to talk to before a nationally televised game. He has the looks and presence of a star. In a league dominated by latin players, Eric stands out as well asa white boy.

It’s a long season. Things could change for sure. But it sure seems that Hosmer is on track to be our next big thing in professional sports in KC.

That would be nice.

It’s been a long, long wait since Brett. And no, I’m not saying he will be at that level, few are, but if he’s even close, that will be just fine.

oh wizard the glaze…how great thou art (hahaahah)
your story is so incredible with such great analytics and stats that it boggls
my mind that you could come up with suchinforomation.
Truth is we allknew this . You’re say hos isa superstar ranks with such
    writings as:
    1. Bill Self is a great coachand recruiter!
    2. Vince Lombardi was a great coach.
    3. The moon will shine tonight…and the sun will shine on Saturday.
    4. Bob dole will appear on a commercial for Viagra.
    In other words DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
But to comparehim to Cabrera or Brett is not only dumb but also
    incorrect.
Hsmer has plyed just 20 games at this level…other players have played at
this level for years. So after 20 games and to extrapolate hosmers stats
    are really ridiculus.
If he maintains this pace he hits 20 home runs…over 80 rbis and bats over
    300. Do you realize how many non stars reachthese numbers in the mlb?
    Many!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again….you repeat the obvious tht we hear everyday on royals games.
I love hosmr. Has potential to be a really good playr….but after next
year he goes on the open market and the royals wll never pay this guy
15-20 million a year to stay in kc! Get real….follow the money…he’s
got 2 or 3 years here before he leavesfor big money and bigger pastures.
Please go back to hotties/strippers and young’uns. At least those stories
are something we don’t already know!
Goood luck on your show…I may jst show up and be thestar and take th
    top billing away from you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    luv ya foreve..r

  2. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Let me know when he manages to hit over .300 for an entire season, break the Royals meager single season HR record (35? Seriously?), and drive in 100 or more runs.

    • CG says:

I agree with you. This franchise has been woeful in its offense from day one. Brett was fantastic but even his power was more timely than regular. No 40 plus homers from KC A’s or Royals in what 70 years. Damn. Eric could hit 40, he could. Lets see.

Whats funny this is a better and more fun team, likely wins division but does not reach the world series, strange huh.

I did not read this, but I can only assume from the title that Hosmer got a shoe deal? Was it Nike?
