Willie Nelson and Beck at Starlight in KC
When was the last time Beck came through KC? I think it was as far back as 2008. As for Willie, I recall seeing him a few years back at Farm Aid at Sporting Park. But who ever thought these two heavy hitters would team up for a tour?
And also that Kansas City would get the one and only date the two Grammy winners would be playing together.
Crazy, huh?
Given Beck’s weird adventures into the psychedelic side of country/americana (Mutations, Sea Change, Morning Phase) he and Willie have to team up at some point for a super jam, don’t they?

Spring into Summer Fest at the Replay in Lawrence
This annual little hipster party has been going down for a few years now, at Lawrence’s legendary hole-in-the-wall, the Replay Lounge. This year’s version features headliner Joe Jack Talcum of the Dead Milkmen. Also on the bill are local favs like OILS, Psychic Heat, and Spirit is the Spirit, among others.
Could there possibly be a better way to spend three bucks? I think not.
Willie loves to do that sorta thing: back in the late 70’s –when it was acceptable to wear Titties & Beer tee-shirts under straw Stetsons at such events — Willie and the Grateful Dead filled up Arrowhead Stadium one wicked hot summer day. The Dead were in particularly fine form that day, which almost offset the 80 bazillion degree heat on the field; think the high for the day was either in the high 90s or actually hit 100.
Either way, I expect far less stoners/acidheads at the Starlight gig, Willie and Beck themselves notwithstanding…
