Steele: A Nation of Jasons, Kander to Challenge Blunt

Jason Kander

Starting about 40 or so years ago, upwardly mobile Americans of all races, creeds, and political persuasions got it into their collective heads that they would be the first people on their block to name a son, Jason

“Jason” quickly became the most popular boys name in America.

This phenomenon lasted a decade. Then it ended as abruptly as it started. Saddled with such a fleetingly trendy name, no Jason that I know of has chosen to pass the name on to his son.

In the meantime though, Jasons are now hitting their prime years with a ton of parent-inspired self-esteem, an unhealthy dose of ambition, and nary an original thought in their assembly line brains.

Case in point: Jason Kander.

Blunt _a60bd

Kander is an overly ambitious 33-year-old Democrat from Kansas City who seems to have already grown bored after about–what?–15 minutes as Missouri Secretary of State and has set his sights on the U.S. Senate.

Kander will be running against Republican Senator Roy Blunt.

Conservatives know Blunt as a go along-to-get along pragmatist much too willing to set aside conservative principles to strike a deal.

Kander sees it differently.

112752132_-com-new-stop-jason-zone-parking-sign-name-home-kitchenSaid Kander of Blunt, “He has become an extremist that refuses to work with anyone who doesn’t agree with him 100 percent of the time.”

Kander is ambitious enough to give Blunt a run for his money, but if he continues to say things as preposterous as the above, he doesn’t have a chance.

“Conservatives know Blunt as a go along-to-get along pragmatist much too willing to set aside conservative principles to strike a deal ” That’s really rich. The American Conservative Union has given Blunt rankings in the range of 96% to 100%.

Stomper, check the ACU numbers on Blunt. He got a 71 last year and a 72 the year before.

    • Stomper says:

I did. He also got a 100 in 2010 and his average score was right at 90%. He is rated among the top 12 – 13 most conservative in the Senate. I just think calling Blunt a pragmatist that is regarded by conservatives as one who is too willing to set aside his conservative principles is a real stretch. I do appreciate the response however.

    • Stomper says:

By the way, Rich, you’re a private sector guy. Isn’t striking deals what successful capitalism is all about? If I don’t strike deals in my day job, my family is in trouble. Finding some common ground with a nod to compromise ought to be our goal. . We need less adherence to dogma and more effort to striking deals in DC, Jefferson City, and Topeka. Maybe all our politicians should strive for ratings closer to 50 on scales by organizations on both sides of the political aisle.

It would not surprise me if Jason won. If not this election, then the next – long past time for the hoary old chair warmers to be gone…

  4. hahhararley says:

kander has a tough time beating blount.
repubs will saturate the state with 60-70 million dollars with 2 metro areas. dems will probably write off Missouri in pres. race so he gets no
    coat tails.
Great young man….needs to get better known. He will eventually do greatthings…
but should hold off because he has plenty of time to make his move.
